Leona Alleslev MP (born March 16, 1968) is a Canadian politician who was elected to represent the riding of Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill in the House of Commons in the 2015 federal election.[2] Alleslev was originally elected as a Liberal but, on September 17, 2018, she crossed the floor to join the Conservative Party, citing disagreements with the Liberal government over their handling of the economy and foreign affairs.[3]

The eldest daughter of RCAF Major-General Ian Alleslev, Leona Alleslev graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1991, and served as a logistics officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, retiring with the rank of captain. Alleslev also worked as a senior manager in the aerospace industry and the Department of National Defence.[4]

Alleslev currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee on National Defence and the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration. In March 2017, she was elected as chair of the Canadian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.[citation needed] When Alleslev crossed the floor to the Conservative Party, Opposition Leader Andrew Scheer named her Shadow Minister of Global Security.[5]
