Wikipedia:Things to be moved to Wiktionary

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Jamesday (talk | contribs) at 00:44, 19 October 2003 (rm cop. It's now a redirect.). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is intended for listing articles that are really definitions in Wikipedia, that should be moved to Wiktionary.

''This page may be [[Wikipedia:Things to be moved to Wiktionary|moved to Wiktionary]].''

When you move an article, make sure that you do not break any links. Consider copying rather than moving to avoid these complications. Put links from the Wikipedia article to the Wiktionary article and back.

List

  • Thou: consider partial merge with wiktionary:Thou Emperorbma 09:16 3 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Not quite shore what to move. - fonzy
      • The etymology and a little bit of the usage section seem well oriented to being incorporated. The wiktionary thou is very sparse as it stands. Emperorbma 00:06 8 Jul 2003 (UTC)
  • Melée, unless anyone can add something significant about it. We'll just send the folks checking out meleé in Wikipedia to the Wiktionary wiktionary:Melée page because a few places do link it. Emperorbma
    • Or move it and other terms to hand to hand combat, and have a general (encyclopedic!) discussion. Martin 13:10, 1 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Keep. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Chinese_characters
  • Nearly all the words linked from List of German expressions in English (anything that doesn't have more than a short definitional page). Note that the "see also" pages on French and Spanish words by and large are okay and don't need to be moved. (This was discussed on VfD and the consensus was to move to Wiktionary). --Delirium 06:35 16 Jul 2003 (UTC)
  • moiety, but don't use the definition there. Moiety is a standard English word meaning essentially "part", and its usage in Chemistry just follows standard usage, not any sort of specific jargon. --Delirium 00:01 22 Jul 2003 (UTC)
  • Chump basically a dictionary definition with an apparently incorrect etymology. M123 22:40, 16 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • Corrected the data, should probably still end up on wiktionary. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogostiçk
  • Secondary entry at concrete - SimonP 17:22, Aug 23, 2003 (UTC)
    • What's wrong with concrete staying? Seems to be more than a definition. Keep. Angela
    • You're referring to the "Something is considered concrete if it is ..." bit? I agree - that bit is more suitable for Wikipedia. Martin 10:19, 29 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • Moved from VfD - Delirium 00:17, Aug 29, 2003 (UTC)
    • Astral
      • Dictionary definition. -- Oliver P. 03:49, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)
        • move and redirect it to wiktionary? - fagan
          • But I don't approve of interwiki redirects... -- Oliver P. 07:19, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • Veld - dictionary entry. Kosebamse 13:26, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • Interim dictionary def with examples of usagejimfbleak 06:47, 17 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • See Talk:Interim for a lengthy discussion.
    • Please have mercy! Yes, it is a "dictionary def with examples of usage", but w*h*a*t__i*s__t*h*e__p*r*o*b*l*e*m ??? I'm really worried. KF 23:54, 20 Aug 2003 (UTC)
      • See WP:WINAD. It should be moved to Wiktionary. Angela
      • I've had this discussion before (see Talk:Point of no return), and I'm a bit tired of it. With the help of WP:WINAD (and maybe stub) you can argue both for and against inclusion in Wikipedia. Interim is a perfectly legitimate page. --KF 12:08, 21 Aug 2003 (UTC)
In Wiktionary. It's not an encyclopedia article, and never will be. It is a good dictionary definition, however. --Robert Merkel 23:00, 1 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Faculty. Reasonable beginning of a dictionary entry. --FOo 01:42, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Strongly recommend that this stays in Wikipedia. The intricises of explaining and pricing these sorts of financial instrument are much better suited to an article rather than dictionary definition. Pete 19:01, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Ok, I shall move it to Pages needing attention then. Angela
  • Praise - just a word definition. andy 08:12, 8 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Archive - might even be a copyvio as it's the quick definition from OneLook. andy 11:38, 12 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Keep this in Wiki (after a heavy edit of course) - has computing applications here. Dysprosia 11:43, 12 Sep 2003 (UTC)

  • I.e definition; should be ie. or ie anyway. LDan 19:12, 29 Sep 2003 (UTC) PS. No one ever deletes or moves the stuff on this page!
  • Mijyoka - orphan about a japanese slang word. andy 09:18, 1 Oct 2003 (UTC)
