Research

[edit]

The most important information for this article, his group's research, is currently missing. I'll try to add it but if someone beats me to it a good place to start is the 2001 nature paper and an older CpG paper, possibly like this one. benmoore 01:11, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Have now made a start on this benmoore 22:47, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ideally the "Research" and "Career" sections could be worked together to give a coherent narrative of what was done, where and with whom (if the sources exist for this). benmoore 21:00, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Move. Clear consensus that this is the primary topic of the two. Cúchullain t/c 03:35, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

– Adrian Bird (the professor) has around three times the views of the footballer article and has greater long-term significance: He is now a knighted Professor and potential future Nobel laureate whereas the footballer made 27 total appearances in the 80s before retiring with an injury. All top results in a google search for "Adrian Bird" reference the scientist.

Addendum: He does not use his middle name on his lab website, nor is it found on the page of another associated institute or the honours list. (He is named in full in the title of this page.) benmoore 00:42, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not particularly opposed to a disambiguation page; if there is any doubt, we might as well have one. StAnselm (talk) 07:57, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that's the more usual route, but I thought in this case there's a significant disparity between the two subjects and it's unlikely many people searching for Adrian Bird are looking for an 80s first division player who rarely played (27 apps over 4 years) then retired. Comparing their 90 day traffic stats, about 10% of footballer Adrian Bird's total views over that period occurred during Nobel speculation about the geneticist. benmoore 10:55, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Clear primary topic. If the scientist had been placed at that title originally, rather than at his full name, I'd have created the other at Adrian Bird (footballer) in the first place and saved us the hassle :) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 19:17, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - I disagree that there is clearcut PRIMARYTOPIC here. Adrian Bird should be a dab, with (footballer) and (geneticist) listed. GiantSnowman 13:55, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – a geneticist, knighted by the monarch and a leader in his field, or a second division footballer who played the equivalent of around half a season of matches, with no evidence of sustained public interest. It is clear to me that the primary topic is the former. C679 20:24, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. I dislike the PrimaryTopic notion, preferring to see more DAB pages, but given the PrimaryTopic notion, especially in 2DAB situations, the geneticist is it. Make Adrian Bird a DAB page when a third Adrian Bird becomes notable. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 12:20, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
