Sporting Lourenço Marques and flags etc
[edit]It is misleading to imply that Lourenço Marques was IN Portugal but I accept that the Mozambique flag is an anacronism. I hope the current comprimise is acceptable to allA Geek Tragedy
- It is not misleading at all, since the constitution recognized the territory of Portugal in several regions, including the "continent" and "Mozambique". So Lourenço Marques was in Portugal, in the East Africa, in Mozambique. --Good Hope Phanta (talk) 15:12, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Furthermore, mid 20th century UN and international convention among the nations of the time, recognised those colonies as belonging within the jurisdiction and sovereignty of the so called "colonial power". In the case of Portugal at the time of it's colonies independence, those citizens where given the choice to be Portuguese or Mozambican, Angolan, etc. Eusébio chose Portuguese despite having the option to change again if he ever decided to. Despite his personal childhood friendship with then Monzambique Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Joaquin Chissano, Eusébio howed great disappointment in the way the post independence Mozambican revolutionary policy of indiscriminate nationalizations, come to affect his own ownership of properties he had previously invested in as a retirement nest egg. WE NEED A PROPER PICTURE OF THE GUY HIMSELF
[edit]Excuse me, but I beleive this article will make huge progress if we get a, preferably up to date, picture of the man himself, not just a statue of him, although the statue may stay as another picture. Mcjm4796 (talk) 09:20, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Best footballer of all time?
[edit]IIRC, Sir Jack Charlton ranked him above Pele. I'm not sure how widely that view is held but he could kick a ball extraordinarily hard; I remember a long freekick he took against Man United in 1968 which hit the crossbar and which Alec Stepney in goal had got nowhere near.
Meltingpot (talk) 21:45, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
First world-class african striker?
[edit]I think this statement is a bit bold, given that Just Fontaine, who scored 13 goals at the 1958 world cup was from Morocco. Certainly somebody scoring 13 goals at a world cup has to be a world-class striker, right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frodo 05 (talk • contribs) 12:26, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
- It's not just bold, it's POV. Zarcadia (talk) 21:46, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Are the statement and comments refering to a "black african" or purely just anyone from "africa"? CharlieCares (talk) 06:19, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
chicago CBP
[edit]According to the wiki page of Chicago CBP, Eusebio had a stint there in the late 1970s —Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.32.135.162 (talk) 01:56, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Activities since retirement?
[edit]Can anyone add any info about this at all? Presumably he hasn't just sat around doing nothing for 30+ years? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.108.241.233 (talk) 19:12, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Too many reaction quotes
[edit]The section on his death has been expanded to include a lengthy list of quotes and tributes from various people, to the extent that it's now longer than the section about his career at Benfica. This is surely excessive - the article should focus on his life, not what people said about his death. The list of quotes should be pared back to only the most notable ones, with perhaps a list of others who also made tributes. See something like Sócrates#Legacy and death for a more reasonable section (while noting that they're not quite on the same level of importance). Robofish (talk) 15:10, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'd already trimmed this section before I noted your helpful thoughts above. For starters, I've cut out all the Cape Verde stuff. Of course, more tributes may be added, so we need to be vigilant. And some of the quotes may be from top football people, but even those could be edited down. Edwardx (talk) 20:24, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
His death not mentioned on English Wiki main page
[edit]Isn't this a little bit strange? Xakepxakep (talk) 17:50, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- Try WP:ITN. GiantSnowman 17:53, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Disruptive editing
[edit]@92.19.13.222: Please read Wikipedia guidelines before making edits on mass and edit warring. I have reverted you last edit for: "Too many unexplained changes, such as the removal of the hatnote, addition of duplicate links, removal of sourced content, removal of inline citations, replacement of pictures, etc." SLBedit (talk) 16:08, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
IPA
[edit]@SLBedit: The current IPA is at odds with Help:IPA/Portuguese. Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Pronunciation#Other languages, the two must agree. Sol505000 (talk) 16:15, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
- Do you realize anyone can revert your change since it's unsourced? Porto Editora dictionary, a reliable source, clearly shows ˈsiɫvɐ. (I won't revert, but someone else might.) SLBedit (talk) 19:47, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- You still don't seem to understand that ⟨ɫ⟩ is a mere transcriptional variant of ⟨l⟩ in the context of Portuguese. Help:IPA/Portuguese takes precedence over source's transcriptional system per MOS:LEADPRON (Help:IPA/Danish is a much better example of this, though not relevant to this particular transcription).
- In the context of Turkish or Norwegian [ɫ] MUST be written as such because it contrasts phonemically with the plain [l] (see Help:IPA/Turkish and Help:IPA/Norwegian). This means that words can be distinguished based only on this difference.
- In the context of Portuguese, they cannot, and there is no consensus to use the symbol ⟨ɫ⟩. This is consistent with how we treat Catalan and Serbo-Croatian (see Help:IPA/Catalan and Help:IPA/Serbo-Croatian), which have the same velarized L. Sol505000 (talk) 02:20, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

[edit]@A. Landmesser: Stop manipulating the article using dubious sources. Sporting CP was one of the Estado Novo's clubs. Get over it. SLBedit (talk) 19:53, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- The primary source is Expresso (Única Magazine is Expresso's magazine).[1] You are using an unreliable non-primary source (cmjornal) and that's not allowed by our standards here in Wikipedia. Please, read the primary source instead of adding original research based on unreliable commentaries on the primary source. A. Landmesser (talk) 23:15, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- @A. Landmesser: Yes, you are right – although Correio da Manhã source was talking about Sporting Lisbon – but there's no need to do WP:ADVOCACY on the personal life section. SLBedit (talk) 00:43, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- @A. Landmesser: Please stop readding the Hilário advocacy crap to the personal section. SLBedit (talk) 01:03, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- The frequency of your rogue edits has been a little bit concerning. If we talk about Eusébio's perception or views on racial discrimination in Portuguese Mozambique citing the Expresso's interview, we must tell everything about that. When he was already playing for Sporting CP's affiliate club in Mozambique, he accused the head coach of the Benfica's affiliate club there of being racist as well. A. Landmesser (talk) 01:24, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Stop playing victim. You are adding career stuff to personal life. SLBedit (talk) 01:34, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

- @SLBedit Stop pushing your POV and inserting biased undourced BS just like your previous comment. You don't like the facts just want to make your club look better, diminishing the rivals. Landmesser just added well sourced facts something you don't do. You just do cherry picking, like using that populist and distorted Correio da Manhã source instead of the original and complete one. Rpo.castro (talk) 08:07, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Rpo.castro: You forgot to mention this discussion on your report. Wikipedia isn't about facts or truth, it's about sources. Correio da Manhã said it was Sporting CP/Lisbon, not Sporting Lourenço Marques. SLBedit (talk) 00:40, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
@A. Landmesser: You claim Correio da Manhã (CM) isn't reliable, but you used a CM source at 1996 Taça de Portugal final! SLBedit (talk) 01:25, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- I added quotation marks to the word kidnaping because the kidnaping narrative is a Benfica's myth that uses the term kidnaping as a derogatory term to drag the reputation of Sporting CP through the mud, as usual in everything edited by SLBedit throughout the years.
