"Ikimono-gakari" or "Ikimonogakari"
[edit]According to the CDs, they are using spelling "Ikimono-gakari" for English. So I changed the page name. --Yaizawa 12:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Is it possible to change it back again? Everybody associated with them, uses "Ikimonogakari". For example、 band member Hotaka Yamashita, in the video introduction to the video of the recent 'I' concert DVD has written it "ikimonogakari". See also, their fan club's header. Fair use rationale for Image:Ikimonogakari.jpg
[edit]Image:Ikimonogakari.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Rock?
[edit]Is this the same band singing "Sakura" and "Hana Wa Sakura Kimi Wa Utsukushii", if so the label "Rock" is misleading - "Pop" would be appropriate 203.214.90.33 (talk) 00:51, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'd say Pop-rock is more fitting, they're a little "heavier" than just pop.
Meaning?
[edit]Do they have a meaning for Ikimono-gakari? "生き物係" "Ikimonogakari/Ikimono Kakari" could be "The Connection between Living Things"... Moocowsrule (talk) 03:49, 27 October 2008 (UTC)moocowrule
- Possibly, it could also mean "Those who went to rent".
- Ikimono-Gakari is a term given to those whose responsibility it is to look after plants and animals in Japanese grade school. Literally, the closest I can translate is "biological-being minder." Two band members were Ikimono-Gakari in grade schol. This is where the name comes from. Kanjo Kotr (talk) 15:24, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- The meaning of Ikimono gakari is actually "Those in charge of the school pets". Yamashita and Mizuno were once "ikimono gakari" when they were in their elementary years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kris animefreak (talk • contribs) 06:54, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
ANN Encyclopedia as a source
[edit]This is a response to an editor that undid my edit removing ANN Encylopedia's as a source. ANN Encyclopedia is built on user-submitted material and while the submissions are checked by a staff member, there are often a lot of errors. This would make it a tertiary source, which is a good way to find sources, but in and of it self cannot be used as a source. While ANN has been widely cited, Wikiproject Anime and Manga has always stated that the magazine side of ANN is a reliable source, but the encyclopedia is not; this consensus was upheld in a discussion last month and the project is now undertaking a large-scale resourcing effort.
Your suggestion that I watch Episode 103 doesn't make any sense because I made the edit on April 8th, roughly 48 hours before the episode aired. Now that the episode is out, one can simply source it to the episode because they list it in the credits; but you can't use ANN as a source. --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 04:53, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Takashi Adachi
[edit]Who is he anyway???? Which song did he appear in??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kris animefreak (talk • contribs) 01:32, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
He is the bass guitarist who accompanies them in some of their live performances. He performed in their"Ikimono Matsuri 2011 Donata Summer Mo Tanoshimima Show" over two days at Yokohama Stadium. There is only one problem with his inclusion like this. He is only one of many who perform with them in their live concerts (and in the studio); they are accompanied by strings, brass, guitars (including bass), percussion and so on. These are not necessarily the same from concert to concert. It is a bit like having a performance of a piano concerto where the publicity includes only the name of the pianist, and one of the flautists/flutists/flute players in the orchestra. Discography section: Split into a new article
[edit]Should we try to split the discography section into a dedicated page (e.g. Ayumi Hamasaki/discography)? Bigtop 20:00, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Recent move to Ikimonogakari
[edit]We had a go-round with this before, and Ryulong moved it back. (see archive discussion from MOS:JAPAN about the earlier move) This time, I was bold and moved it back myself. Relevant points:
- Official usage trumps common usage, per MOS:JAPAN.
- The official site, as far as I can tell, is using "ikimono-gakari".
- For an example, see the band profile. Notice how the title displayed in the browser is "ikimono-gakari".
- Anthony Bradbury's edit summary indicated the official site was using no dash, so I attempted (using a google search for "+ikimonogakari" among other things) to find a place on the site where "ikimonogakari" without the dash is used. Except for e-mail addresses and URLs, I could not find anything, and what I did find was lots of "ikimono-gakari" with the dash. If anyone knows of a place where the dashless spelling is used, I would appreciate a URL. Thanks :)
- A booklet was mentioned as using no dash. There are previous posts indicating that booklets were using the dash. Either way, anyone have a URL for them?
I can certainly be wrong, so feel free to revert me, but please supply links that indicate the official spelling when doing so. Thanks :) -- Joren (talk) 20:56, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- Personally I call them Ikimono Gakari, but I place no importance on what I call them. However, I looked around their site for usage of either out of curiosity and only found one cover using either (it's pretty hard to see). I'll just leave it here for anyone else interested. Kanjo Kotr (talk) 22:37, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- On the cover for the Newtral DVD and BluRay we find "Ikimonogakari no Minasan" and "IKIMONOGAKARI" There is no hyphen.
Ikimonogakari Newtral Cover — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kuitan (talk • contribs) 16:03, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
- I would argue that currently the official spelling seems to be "Ikimonogakari" (no hyphen). The last two albums (NEWTRAL and I) have used this spelling somewhere on the box (though only NEWTRAL on the front cover http://ikimonogakari.com/discography/album/escl-3827/ [sorry, difficult to see]) and the limited edition (Pokemon) version of the "Egao" single also uses "Ikimonogakari" (http://ikimonogakari.com/discography/single/escl-4076/ [extremely difficult to see]). I am sorry if I am bringing up a closed discussion, and I apologise for going against the Wikipedia convention of Ikimono-gakari, but I do feel that recently there has been a shift towards "Ikimonogakari". JTST4RS (talk) 13:56, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
Above, it says 'Official usage trumps common usage ... " Ikimonogakari are signed to Epic/Sony. On the English portion of the website, the name is 'Ikimonogakari' with no hyphen. See here. Common usage has Ikimono Gakari and Ikimono-Gakari, with and without upper case; but, I would have to suggest that the conclusion that the inclusion of the space or the hyphen is technically wrong, because, as is said above, offical trumps all. Oh, and apologies for forgetting to sign my previous comment. Kuitan (talk) 10:39, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Discography split
[edit]Requesting a split of this page, in particular the discography section, into its own page. Self-explanatory. みんな空の下 (トーク | I wanna chAngE!) 03:55, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes - I'm in support of a split of the discography section. A separate discography article could include more information and small items which might not be notable enough as a standalone article, to be expanded without adding more to the long article.--Michaela den (talk) 12:07, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
- Support, I've seen smaller discography sections split off. Cooldra01 (talk) 13:54, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
Rise to Fame
[edit]The Rise to Fame section needs to be split. It should really only include the period up to when it is clear that they had an established position, in Japanese music certainly by 2009 or 2010 when they were able to fill large auditoriums and stadiums on a regular basis. It might be a bit earlier.--Megaton Sheriff (talk) 14:09, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: pages moved per WP:SILENCE and the fact this discussion has no participation even after multiple relists. (non-admin closure) Steel1943 (talk) 22:31, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Ikimono-gakari → Ikimonogakari
- Ikimono-gakari discography → Ikimonogakari discography
- Sakura (Ikimono-gakari song) → Sakura (Ikimonogakari song)
– I know this article's naming issue has already been discussed in the past, but it seems that since then the band has cemented the non-hyphenated Ikimonogakari as the official romanization, with some examples being:
- The band's official website which features the romanization IKIMONOGAKARI at the top (https://ikimonogakari.com/)
- The band's official Spotify page (https://open.spotify.com/artist/5YneEA2nLtAhkD5t2769lZ?si=KEUyYaQ9SayYqnqzNTc_Dw)
- Recent appearances such as this special on Japan's J-Wave radio channel (https://www.j-wave.co.jp/holiday/20200810/)
- Merchandise such as the Hajimari no Uta booklet or FUN! FUN! FANFARE! CD which display the band's name as IKIMONOGAKARI but I sadly cannot link to.
In short, I believe per MOS:JAPAN, the article's title should be moved to reflect the change in the band's official romanization usage.
