List of Income Tax ranks in India → List of income tax ranks in India – I see no reason for capitalisation. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 20:28, 12 June 2020 (UTC) —Relisting. ~ Amkgp 💬 17:25, 20 June 2020 (UTC) —Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 15:18, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
OpposeIncome Tax is a proper noun, like Income Tax Department, it refers to specific thing, hence capitalization; you can see rank is not capitalized for the same reason--Ab207 (talk) 18:24, 13 June 2020 (UTC) Moving to Income Tax officer ranks in India would clarify that its officers/designations which are ranked. List is also redundant, when ranks is mentioned -- Ab207 (talk) 15:34, 27 July 2020 (UTC)- @Ab207: A proper noun? What about Income tax, Income tax in India? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 19:40, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
- I believe in this case, it is more similar to Income Tax Department as mentioned above, because we are not talking about Income tax in general but rather specific ranks given in the Income Tax Department--Ab207 (talk) 19:31, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- Why isn't it called "Income Tax Department ranks" then? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 19:33, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME and WP:CONCISE, Department is implied--Ab207 (talk) 19:35, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hmm, I don't see this implied. If I hadn't read any of the article, I would probably have thought this was about some hierarchy in the different income taxes. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 19:38, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- I see the point you are trying to make. I would make a case for moving this article to List of Income Tax Officer ranks in India per WP:PRECISE but lower casing income tax is not appropriate. Officer because officers are ranked, not the department itself.--Ab207 (talk) 19:52, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

- Support Ranks of the Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax). Much clearer and what the article says it's actually about. We usually use the "Ranks of the" construction for these sorts of articles. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:59, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Necrothesp: Are you aware that not all Income Tax officers are recruited through Indian Revenue Service. Proposed name could be misleading in that regard.-- Ab207 (talk) 16:52, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- Just quoting what it says in the article. Your proposal of List of Income Tax Officer ranks in India is also inappropriate, as there is no reason to upper case any of these words (no, income tax is not a proper name, although Income Tax Department is; neither is "officers"). Neither does "list" usually appear in rank articles. Ranks of income tax officers in India would be better. -- Necrothesp (talk) 17:47, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- Is there a problem with Income tax officer ranks in India? The position of "ranks" in the name? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 18:05, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- I'm fine with that. -- Necrothesp (talk) 22:16, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- Agree with the list and officers part; However, I believe it should be "Income Tax" inline with its parent "Income Tax Department", therefore Move to Income Tax officer ranks in India -- Ab207 (talk) 04:05, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Once again, Income Tax Department is a proper name, but income tax is not. -- Necrothesp (talk) 18:05, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- Agree with Necrothesp that income tax should be in small letter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sanjoydey33 (talk • contribs) 15:06, 19 July 2020 (UTC)

- Support. “Income Tax” is NOT a proper noun. User:Ab207, what has made you think it is? There are so many explanations for why it is not, best to start with why someone thinks it is. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 10:49, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
- My rationale was that here "Income Tax" derives its name from the parent "Income Tax Department," which is a proper noun. -- Ab207 (talk) 07:38, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Ab207: Can you explain how is this the case? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 12:34, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- Precise title of the article should be List of Income Tax Department officer ranks, I'm assuming that "Department" is omitted and "in India" is added for better recognizability. Its unclear why "officer" is left out -- Ab207 (talk) 06:48, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

- Support obviously, as "Income Tax is a proper noun" is pure nonsense unsupported by anything we've ever seen in sources. Dicklyon (talk) 01:26, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
- Sir, are you aware that ranks are not for "Income tax", but officers who work in the Income Tax Department? Both the current title and the proposed title are misleading in that regard -- Ab207 (talk) 15:15, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
- Comment: Official website of Income Tax Department, uses "Income Tax"[1] e.g.
Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax
etc., because these are designations. Casing is also consistent with Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax), where bulk of these officers are recruited from.[2] -- Ab207 (talk) 15:28, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

- Usage on another website is irrelevant. Many websites capitalise absolutely everything (e.g. most military websites capitalise military ranks). We don't. If income tax was a specific statutorily named tax only used in India and not used anywhere else then there would be an argument for making it a proper name. However, this is not the case. It's completely generic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:51, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Intention was to point out the official terminology. How about List of Income Tax Department officer ranks or simply Income Tax Department officer ranks. That would solve the casing issue and satisfy WP:PRECISE, because ranks are given to officers who work in the Income Tax Department, colloquially called Income Tax officers -- Ab207 (talk) 03:46, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
- I've already proposed something similar above. It was rejected as apparently not all these officers work for the Income Tax Department. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:45, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Necrothesp: Your proposal was "Ranks of the Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax)", and it was rejected by the same user who suggested the version you are talking about. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 15:42, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
- My point was that there appear to be at least two services which deal with income tax in India! I'm fine with Ranks of the Income Tax Department (India) if this is not the case. But the article needs to be rewritten to make it clear. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:51, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
- I objected to an earlier proposal by Necrothesp for a different reason. Ranks of the Income Tax Department (India) is decent, although I don't think any disambiguation is needed. Ranks of the Income Tax Department can do the job. -- Ab207 (talk) 19:11, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

- Support - no reason for capitialisation. It's definitly not a proper noun.

Moved to List of Income Tax Department officer ranks per suggestion of Ab207. This article is not ranking a generic thing called "income tax". – wbm1058 (talk) 20:00, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you Wbm1058 for fixing the title. The present title adequately addresses the above concerns. -- Ab207 (talk) 07:41, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
