Misc.

[edit]

No list should have a misc section. There are specific guidelines for being on any particular Wikipedia list. Either these items should be in an existing heading, should have a new heading, or should be removed. JohnnyMrNinja 08:25, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Omission?

[edit]

Shouldn't this article list Flax Seed??? unreg'd user 08:38 13 Dec 2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.244.112.17 (talk) 14:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also seeds of marrow & melon as well as pumpkin Tabby (talk) 02:10, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Actually, there's not a seed on this list. If the list matched the article title, you'd find Alfalfa, Celery, Chia, Dill, Fennel, Flax, Pumpkin, Squash and about a hundred others. TheEditrix2 16:19, 2 November 2012 (UTC) --- This list hardly comes close to being a comprehensive list of edible seeds. Can you find corn seeds in the list? How about avocado? Many people will likely come here hoping to find out if some seed of some whole plant is edible. It would be great to include, as much as possible, edible seeds that are relatively unknown as edible but can be part of one's nutrition. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.216.80.89 (talk) 18:45, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Peanut

[edit]

Shouldn't Peanuts be mentioned; perhaps not a true nut, but still pretty close. Also, this article is about the culinary seeds and nuts, not true ones; not sure where peanuts need to be mentioned else

Introduction - use of 'important'

[edit]

The use of the word 'important' in the second and fifth sentences of the second paragraph, could imply either 'substantial use' or 'nutritional value' (of seeds as a food source). In both cases, it comes close to opionion rather than fact, and is potentially misleading, so it would be improved by verification and clarification. I don't have the background to edit this to a more appropriate wording. Kaplunkiigirl (talk) 09:58, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

poppy seed

[edit]

Poppy seed is not on the list. So, it is not edible, or what? Whatever the reason is, it should be clarified. Sesame is also included, and I have never seen it eaten other than in breads like this [[1]]. 82.141.94.229 (talk) 05:06, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Appropriate use of tables

[edit]

It seems to me that tables are appropriate for some of these lists, particularly legumes and cereals, as their botanical taxonomy is important, but are tables appropriate for the polyphylic groups, like nuts and pseudocereals? I'm not sure. Input is welcome. Michipedian (talk) 00:18, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean like this? —hike395 (talk) 03:24, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, like that, or like the current nuts table. I just don't know if the botanical background is relevant like it is to cereals and legumes. It seems like overkill. Michipedian (talk) 03:26, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect you are right (that it is overkill). —hike395 (talk) 10:40, 19 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. I restored the nuts list. I'm now just wondering about the pseudocereal list. The amaranth family is significant and important, but the rest of the seeds don't really need their botanical information explained. It's a short table though so should be fine. I think it looks good with the pictures. Any thoughts? What about individual pictures for all of the seeds? Michipedian (talk) 00:46, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
