Abyss in MvC2?

[edit]

In the table at the very bottom of the page, it states that Abyss is NOT in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. He is actually in the game, but only as a non-playable final boss. Should this be changed in the table to show that he's in the game, but not playable, or is the table only for playable characters?- Bkid My talk/Contribs 12:52, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Number three?

[edit]

There apparantly has been talk of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Apparantly at E3 there was talk about a third one; people saying they would love to make new ones, and according to Kotaku.com it was even confirmed that there will be a third one. Should this be brought up in this article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.164.8 (talk) 22:51, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hell no

The thing and iron man i can understand, but Venom's palette swap is extremly simliar to the actual color of Carnage

". Jin Saotome is attacked by Onslaught after defeating him and is near death"

How does that work? 161.184.234.197 21:29, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing how there are now two Resident Evil characters in the series, shouldn't they get their own table now? If anyone makes the argument that two character does not warrant a separate table, just take a look at the Spider-Man characters.

Tron Bonne

[edit]

I didn't know that Tron Bonne was not in MvC3 until the link in the Edit History was shown, so instead of changing it everytime someone says she is unconfirmed and expecting people to obey you, Cyberlink, why don't you put the link in the Reference? Deadpool's voice actor

[edit]

Does anyone have a reliable source for Nolan North being Deadpool's voice actor in Marvel Vs Capcom 3? I know the voice sounds the same, and I've seen this be stated else where, but you guys like to have reliable sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.70.140.119 (talk) 20:41, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While it's fairly obvious that it's North, it's never been officially stated by anyone. It's probably still under NDA, which is why, despite Ryu sounding identical to Street Fighter IV, Kyle Hebert still claims that Capcom hasn't called him in for MvC3. I think we should leave it off the page until either the credits are uploaded to YouTube or someone associated with the game gives official word. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 21:16, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I really don't know how many times we have to tell you this. Like I said in my edit summary, Wikipedia is all about verifiability. You need a good, reliable reference to back up your edits, and frankly, that YouTube video is not a good reference. You can't just listen to the voice actor and automatically assume their identity. Sure, it might be extremely obvious that Zero's VA is Johnny Yong Bosch, but you need a legitimate source...for example, a Tweet from the VA or the website of the VA stating that they are doing the voice of a certain character. That's the way Wikipedia works. -WANINOKOZ (TALK) 08:07, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Weirdly Arranged

[edit]

Why exactly is the organized so haphazardly, separating the characters by series? The Smash Bros article is a lot more condensed and neatly arranged, having all the characters listed in one box and naming their originating series to the far right.

It gives the same type of information with out it being so difficult to keep track of. --71.118.217.33 (talk) 10:58, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Weirdly" arranged? And how is separating the characters by series "haphazard"? You're saying that this article is unplanned. This is just another way of organizing the characters, since their are too many to put in one box. Also, the Smash Bros. article doesn't keep track of cameo/assist characters. The Stick Man (talk) 12:37, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Red Arremer, Firebrand, both, or neither?

[edit]

So I've been wondering how to list him. Yes, I know that this is a relatively minor thing that I'm asking about, but I'm going to talk about him anyway. First, we can go by the name I believe most people know him as: the Red Arremer. Second, we can go by his North American name, Firebrand. Third, we can use both names and leave it as is. And lastly, we can just remove him entirely, as he technically is not a character. At least, not in the way I interpret what a character is. If we were to go by the fourth option, we would have to remove the other enemy "characters", as well (Like the creatures listed as characters in the RE section). So... any thoughts? I've played a very minimal amount of Ghosts 'n Goblins, so I don't trust my opinion about this. The Stick Man (talk) 03:35, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Akuma cameo

If you look closely at The Hand stage in the second gameplay video, you can see Akuma on the left side of the background.

OK. So what's your point? You might not know this, but Wikipedia talk pages are supposed to talk about the article itself. Unfortunately, Akuma's "cameo" is not really relevant. Sorry. The Stick Man (talk) 02:37, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Crimson Viper or C.Viper

[edit]

C.Viper should be listed as Crimson Viper because it lets readers who are not familiar with her know the full name of this Street Fighter, i.e. Dan Hibiki. Plus, C.Viper should only be listed as so only in Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

C. Viper. I'd just put what she is most often officially referred to as. By the way, sign your comments with four tildes so people will know who is talking. The Stick Man (talk) 02:37, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The list is not supposed to state the first appearances. They are organized according to what series they are most related to. This is why Wolverine is in the X-Men section instead of a section titled "The Incredible Hulk". Of course, there are some inaccuracies, since characters can be related to other teams, too. But I'd say the article does a fine job organizing them. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 03:55, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

With DLC characters coming up, should we still continue to say "no" for characters not on-disc or should we revert their statuses back to unknown/cameo? TheStickMan[✆Talk] 18:00, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If they're not playable and they're not a cameo, they should be listed as "no". The fact is, unless they get announced as DLC down the line, they're not actually in the game, unlike yet-to-be-revealed characters who ARE in the game but we don't know it, so the "no" is justified. Besides, nothing says we can't change it to a "yes" later if they do get announced. Besides, given we don't know how long Capcom's going to be continuing DLC, don't you think it would look a little silly if the MvC3 part of the table was full of "unknown" listings a year following release? -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 18:10, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Might as well. If Niitsuma says it's Frank, it's him, and since the trailers are promotional material, tied to the plot, AND unlockable in-game, it technically fits. SonSon is not an original character in Marvel vs. Capcom/Error in the Capcom Characters Section

[edit]

In the Capcom characters, I noticed that SonSon was under original characters. He is NOT an original character created for Marvel vs. Capcom unlike Amingo, Abyss, etc. He has his own game which you can see in this wikipedia link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SonSon

They are not the same character. The Marvel vs. Capcom 2 version of SonSon is supposed to be the granddaughter of the original SonSon from the NES name of the same name. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was her first and only appearance, thus we count her as an original character, even though she was inspired by a real Capcom character. -wANINOKOZ ♪♫♪ 11:40, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest that characters who appear as cards in Heroes vs. Heralds, like Howard or Multiple Man, be labelled as such, similar to how certain characters in MvC1 appear under the "Assist" label. Furthermore, characters who previously only made background/ending cameos, like Nightcrawler, should be upgraded from "Cameo" to whatever this new category we're creating is if they have a card. Article Overhaul - Help me out?

[edit]

This page hasn't had nearly as much attention as the other articles, and frankly...we all know it's not good. A so-called "series" page should focus on the series as a whole, and not list off a bunch of random story endings and non-playable characters. I was thinking of rewriting the page.

I really like the Super Smash Bros. (series) page, and how it's arranged. I mean, that is the reason why that page has achieved good article status. I want to model this page after it.

The character list should be limited to playable characters only. The "story" section has to go - story has never been very important in any of the Marvel vs. Capcom games. A gameplay section is also a necessity. However, I know it will be difficult to write a development and reception section, especially about the earlier games. I have already started writing a new version of the article in my sandbox. If anyone has any good online sources, especially ones about X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, could you show them to me? Any help would be appreciated. X-Men: Children of the Atom?

[edit]

How is this game part of this Capcom crossover series? --uKER (talk) 02:56, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Akuma, I believe. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 00:16, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
XMCotA is as much part of a Marvel vs. Capcom series, as NBA Jam is part of the Mortal Kombat series (Scorpion and Raiden were in NBA Jam). --uKER (talk) 00:47, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I removed that game from the list, and it appears someone not too fond of talk pages reverted it. The cited reason for adding it back in was its inclusion in the book "Marvel VS Capcom: Official Complete Works". Now, that book also includes the "The Punisher" arcade game which, not even being a fighting game, I think we can safely assume doesn't belong to the MvsC series. I'd say that book covers all Capcom games involving Marvel characters, which is not a 100% match with the target of this article. Again, not being a crossover I don't think XMCotA belongs here. --uKER (talk) 17:19, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Uhh...fine...I'll talk here if it makes you feel better. Yes, the series can technically start with X-Men vs. Street Fighter, but most of the fundamentals of the Vs. series were taken from X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes, such as aerial raves, chain combos, super jumps, and hyper combos, which is the reason why, according to Seth Killian (I'm assuming you already know who he is), "many fighting game aficionados", including Killian himself, believe the origin of the series dates back to those two games. (Here is the video link: [3]) I opt to include both games because, as I stated before, the Marvel vs. Capcom: Official Complete Works also listed them as part of the series. For example, there is a large character roster section near the end of the book where they show each playable character and which game in the series they appeared in. This section spans from X-Men: Children of the Atom through Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I actually used this section to help me with the character lists in this article. The Official Complete Works covers all of the works between Marvel Comics and Capcom, which is why The Punisher is included in the book. However, it is not considered to be a part of the Vs. series (as you also stated). It's simply the first video game created during the partnership. WANI (talk) 19:19, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Character tables

[edit]

Recently, I've been working on improving the series' overview article, and I've been thinking about deleting all of the character tables from the individual articles and just leaving the 'master list', like the Super Smash Bros. series of articles. I can list the characters in prose for games with smaller rosters, like X-Men vs. Street Fighter through Clash of Super Heroes, but games with larger rosters (Marvel vs. Capcom 2, 3, and Infinite) would just have to direct readers towards the master list instead. If I end up deleting Infinite's table, I'll be moving the references over here.

Currently, the master list is broken up into two separate tables. Should I consolidate them into one table, and instead of having them sortable by franchise, have them simply sortable by company (Marvel or Capcom)? The problem I have with it right now is how the Marvel characters are sorted out. The X-Men are straight forward, but why list Captain America as The Avengers instead of his own series, for example, or why list Iron Fist as Heroes for Hire instead of The Defenders? They just cross-over with so much material that I'm not entirely sure if relegating them to one "franchise" really counts as accurate; it's not nearly as cut-and-dry as the Capcom side of things.

Anyway, I just wanted to get some thoughts before doing anything. Character tables tend to be what others fiddle with the most, so I imagined that if I didn't discuss about it first, the tables would be replaced anyway or I'd get reverted. Thanks! Wani (talk) 00:49, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reassessment

[edit]

Requested on my talk page. Bumping up to B. Comments:

  • It's offputting to have the first thing in the article be a table; for comparison, Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy (FA), God of War (series) (FA), and Commander Keen (GA) all use itemized lists (bulleted or no), with a timeline template if applicable
  • Also, the text below the table just largely duplicates the table- I'd combine them into a bulleted list like the above examples to fix that
  • Man, those tables are big. I read your post above; I'd say don't delete the tables from the individual articles, and yes combine the two tables here into one- I agree with you, Marvel characters cross over so much that it's really just one big "franchise" for most of them. I'd also make the table collapsed, though, because that's a hefty table.
  • The reception table is pretty wide; ways to fix that: abbreviate Dreamcast as DC; also, not as sold on how it looks, but you can force a line break on the titles like [[Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes|Marvel vs. Capcom:<br/>Clash of Super Heroes]]

Is there a character article that Abyss can link to? Upon inspection, I see there is not.
    Development
"Community, Seth Killian, stated " The commas aren't needed here as worded. Was Killian the "former" Marketing Director when he said this? If not, I suggest rephrasing it as "In 2011, then-current [title] Seth Killian stated..."

"Capcom lost the use of the Marvel license" to whom? Any reason given? What year did they get it back? I assume 2010, but this is not stated.
All sources are pretty vague on the details here. I assume their licensing contract simply expired, similar to what happened after the release of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a reference for that. Wani (talk) 19:35, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I hate when that happens. If nothing's available, this is not an issue. Argento Surfer (talk) 19:39, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    Reception
"As of December 2016, approximately 7 million units have been sold, currently making it Capcom's eighth best-selling franchise" to avoid potentially becoming dated, I suggest rewriting this as "Approximately 7 million units of the series had been sold by December 2016, making it Capcom's eighth best-selling franchise." or something similar.

    B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
    no concerns
  2. Is it verifiable with no original research?
    A. It contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:
Citations [17], [24], [49], [55], [63], [64], [65], [100], and [117] use all caps for the page title. Please change these to sentence case.
Done. But while on the subject, do you have any idea why the reference numbers are being thrown off? For example, [117] in the reference section corresponds to [123] in the reception section. I've tried finding the issue, but wasn't successful. Wani (talk) 19:57, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's caused by the 6 notes under the list of characters, although I'm not sure why. Argento Surfer (talk) 20:20, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    B. All in-line citations are from reliable sources, including those for direct quotations, statistics, published opinion, counter-intuitive or controversial statements that are challenged or likely to be challenged, and contentious material relating to living persons—science-based articles should follow the scientific citation guidelines:
    no concern
    C. It contains no original research:
Is there a source for the playable characters in the upcoming game?
Since they are sourced within the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite article, I wasn't sure if it was necessary. Should I copy the references over anyway? Wani (talk) 20:00, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If there's one citation that covers them, it can be added at the top of the table next to the MvCI header. Argento Surfer (talk) 20:20, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
Earwig has some weak returns due to the various game names. One strong match between the article's "which showcased a two-on-one fight with Ryu and Ken against M. Bison" and the source's "which showcased a two-on-one fight of Ryu and Ken against M. Bison." This needs to be reworded or more accurately quoted.

  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. It addresses the main aspects of the topic:
Does the minimate line not warrant a mention in the related media? Some sources can be found here.
     Done Wani (talk) 20:34, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any explanation for the ten year delay between 2 and 3? I now see this is discussed in the Development section.
    B. It stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style):
    no concern
  4. Is it neutral?
It represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each:
    no concern
  5. Is it stable?
It does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:
The article is actively edited, but no obvious vandalism or edit warring.
  6. Is it illustrated, if possible, by images?
    A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid fair use rationales are provided for non-free content:
    Rationales provided
    B. Images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions:
The use of "current" in the infobox caption is vague and may become MOS:DATED. I suggest revising it to "Marvel vs Capcom logo used since YEAR", or something similar. Per WP:CAPTION#Succinctness, the caption for the image in Gameplay is too long. It needs to be shortened and/or the image size should be upscaled.
I shortened the caption. Is it still too long or is it good? Wani (talk) 20:46, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    It works for me.
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
Pass pending minor concerns listed above
Additional note - does Diamond Comics link to the right article? It's currently pointing at a publisher in India. Argento Surfer (talk) 20:20, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, it did not. Corrected now. Wani (talk) 20:38, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the corrections - promoted. Argento Surfer (talk) 12:10, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
