She is a Celebrity

[edit]

This article should not be deleted because Mercy Eke has won the heart of so many people around the world positively. With her hardworking nature, she maintains a good balance between her business and social life. Wikipedia is a first hand information source for any human on the internet, and as her brand grows, this article would easily be a form of first hand information for anyone seeking. It shows she is relevant and of course a brand to relate with. Dawriz (talk) 15:09, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Review these write up

[edit]

Some of the things written down are not true. She is not the housemate with the highest Endorsement and her Ciroc deal never trended. I guess the person that wrote these is very close to Mercy to have over exagerate . Properly investigate these write up and then see the lies in it.

Thanks Ellyswiss (talk) 23:53, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Ciroc deal may not have "trended" what ever that means, but it is well sourced that it happened. Theroadislong (talk) 16:12, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Theroadislong, haha what he/she means is that “since it did not trend on Nigerian Twitter” the information must be false, as if trending on Twitter in any nation/continent has become yardsrick for veracity of an information. Lol you’ve got to love Nigerians. P.S. I am Nigerian. Celestina007 (talk) 11:34, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Celestina007: I performed copy-edits to the article yesterday. It was in bad shape prior to my revisions.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 17:09, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Versace1608, I saw your good work. “Bad shape” is an understatement, it was an eyesore with all the fanpov edits made by beginner editors. Celestina007 (talk) 22:16, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What is this? Who's giving these suggestions? Mercy's Ciroc deal trended worldwide and whoever this person is giving these suggestions just hates her. Why take down all her achievements? Can't you all see this is an effort to downgrade her & what she's achieved so far? We have evidences of all her trends just incase you need it. Enough with the lies and hate, it's sickening Duchess Edna (talk) 23:16, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Duchess Edna: You need to learn to pratice civility when discussing your concerns with other Wikipedia editors. Do you have a reliable source to support your statement about Eke's Ciroc deal trending worldwide? It is wrong for you to conclude that someone "hates" Eke simply because they challenge a source cited in the article. You need to provide the "evidence" you have to support what you're trying to add to the article.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 00:22, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I understand you and I was speaking from a place of anger because I noticed some days back they kept tampering with her page and adding all sorts of unpleasant contents to it and taking out the important ones. Duchess Edna (talk) 08:52, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Her awards

[edit]

Please why were her awards removed? This makes no sense. She is a celebrity and has won awards & recently just won another 2 days ago at the AMVCA Award night. Please do your research and all her awards need to be included, thank you. Duchess Edna (talk) 23:13, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Duchess Edna: In this edit, Celestina007 removed the entire accolades section. I'm not in 100 percent agreement with her removal, but I understand where she's coming from. Accolades such as the Screams Awards, Starzz Award and West African Youth Honors are not notable and do not help validate Eke's notability. The AMVCAs on the other hand is in fact notable and should be added. I am going to add that to the article per your suggestion.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 00:15, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Duchess Edna: I do not see Eke's name among the winners. Here's a reliable source that lists all of the winners. Am I missing something? If she won an award at the 2020 AMVCA, why isn't her name included among the winners? I do not even see her name among the nominees.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 00:39, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

She won a special category Duchess Edna (talk) 08:47, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Versace1608, you are indeed correct, The AMVCA is a prestigious award show hence I have gone on to create a stand alone section for her award(s). She won the award for best dressed if I recollect correctly.
Hello @Duchess Edna, Wikipedia is not a refuse dumpsite nor is it a place to settle scores or prove a point. If you are currently engaged in that Mercy V Tacha nonsensical counterproductive duel, please do not come here to edit anymore until you understand at least to a satisfactory level the laws guiding & guarding the integrity of Wikipedia. You must understand the basics of editing the encyclopedia before editing any further, or better still like you have done here, come to the talk page of the article you wish to edit, state what & what you want included & an accomplished senior editor such as Versace1608 may oblige your request. The awards prior listed there were all non notable awards something you would have known if you took time to study policies first before editing. Endorsements section

[edit]

None of these products/companies that have endorsed her are notable, I'm not seeing any justification in keeping the section. Theroadislong (talk) 12:36, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. This is an encyclopedia and that sort of material is for her website or FB. Doug Weller talk 13:03, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Greetings @Theroadislong & Doug Weller, whilst I agree that some of the brands aren’t notable, at least three of them are, including the Ciroc endorsement. My self, Theroadislong, & Versace1608 collaborated in Copyediting & toning down the promo words & statements used throughout the entire article & bringing this article to this state which has become readable so I very much appreciate his/her input whatever it may be. But however, I believe a stand alone section for the Endorsements deals is quite plausible because like I earlier stated even though some aren’t notable she does indeed have quite notable endorsement deals. As for the Awards section, I am quite indifferent about that in-fact it was I who deleted the entire Award section entry at first before reading the discussion made above where a consensus was reached where it was decided the “Award section” should be included since subject won an award about five days ago at the most prestigious Award show in West Africa. Celestina007 (talk) 13:54, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There is only one notable brand endorsement that I can see, ie. Cîroc I suggest that this be added to the career section and the rest of the section removed. Theroadislong (talk) 14:28, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Theroadislong & Doug Weller yes the Ciroc deal does stand out but it would be a misconception to say it is the only notable endorsement deal she has bagged. For example here & here we can see that the “Mr.Taxi” Organisation is indeed somewhat notable in Nigeria & forgive me, I don’t want to sound ignorant but just so we are clear; say theoretically even if all endorsement deals she has bagged are non notable including the Ciroc deal (Remember this is just a hypothetical scenario) isn’t it still an endorsement deal regardless? Or is there a policy that states only notable organizations must be included if an “Endorsement deals” section be made? I’m asking just so I myself might understand & be more enlightened, because of a truth I don’t understand the idea of removing the entire section only to reinclude in another section. Isn’t It kinda the same thing, No? Celestina007 (talk) 15:16, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
When I say notable I mean in Wikipedia terms ie. there is no article about them, for instance "Just Furniture a furniture store based in Nigeria".Theroadislong (talk) 14:28, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Theroadislong Oh I see your point, it is quite valid and sound I confess but i propose that it should be left in its current state as I can’t see it causing any harm nor jeopardizing the integrity of the encyclopedia which means a lot to me as you can see from my contributions to the Tacha article & my input here Talk:Tacha#Paid Advocacy Off Wikipedia & Major Canvassing)also from my input in the talk page of this particular article as can be seen in the talk page of this article (see Talk:Mercy Eke#Her awards) so if I say it should be left in its current state it’s because I believe it’s for benefit of the entire encyclopedia. Celestina007 (talk) 16:05, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There we will have to disagree, I see no benefit to Wikipedia in including very minor "celebrity" endorsements. Even the Madonna article only mentions one endorsement! Theroadislong (talk) 16:12, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Theroadislong, seriously? Only one??? Hahaha. As you are my senior colleague I invariably would bow to your experience & at the same time ask that you may reconsider your stand on this. Minor celebrity? Lool, that’s an arguable statement seeing as she is the first woman to emerge winner in a male dominated reality TV show. But yes I see your point & where you are coming from, you are right no doubt! but again I ask; what harm could including those details cause? Sorry for the back & forth though.Celestina007 (talk) 16:26, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I meant that the endorsements were minor not her celebrity status! Theroadislong (talk) 16:36, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Celestina007: then you could say that of everyone with an article and that would run a major hole through the way we deal with BLPs. Such endorsements are promotional, not just of Mercy Eke but of the company, and we aren't here to promote non-notable businesses. Doug Weller talk 17:44, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Weller my God! I never saw it in that light untill you just mentioned it. That’s actually a very valid and imperative point that eluded my eyes/mind. Okay, going forward how about the Ciroc Endorsement? We know it’s very much notable, my question is does it qualify for a standalone section or should we just include that in another section already existing? Keeping in mind that other articles about established entertainers on this encyclopedia have only one endorsement deal listed in their “Endorsement deal section” Celestina007 (talk) 17:52, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, @Doug Weller & Theroadislong, Forgive me here, but i have an idea wherein I could eliminate all promotional organizations listed in the “Endorsement deals” section & retain the section title regardless. I’m quite the writer so if it’s okay with you both, I can re-write the entire section & make it encyclopedic. That is of course if you both can take a chance on me & agree to this. What do you both think? Celestina007 (talk) 19:02, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Be bold! Theroadislong (talk) 19:06, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Celestina007: Thanks for making the necessary changes. Some of those brands Eke is associated with are not notable.  Versace1608  Wanna Talk? 01:49, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Versace1608, yeah, you are absolutely correct. It was a smart move for non notable organizations to gain public attention by smartly inserting their brands to the article. It was Doug Weller who first caught this subtle act & Theroadislong encouraged me to blow up that section and restructure it to the encyclopedic standard.
