Only Country in Americas involved in War prior to Pearl Harbor - not true

[edit]

There was another "country" in North America involved in WW2 prior to Pearl beyond Canada: Newfoundland. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_by_country#Newfoundland Newfoundland was a Dominion and thus, theoretically, just as much of its own nation as Canada at the time under the Westminster System. 208.91.70.235 (talk) 18:41, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Newfoundland was part of the British dominions so Ii had no choice they were not a separate country yet.--Moxy (talk) 18:50, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Newfoundland kept the term "dominion" but gave up all self govt in the 1930s and had no voice in going to war or not--it was like Bermuda or Jamaica in this regard. Canada did control its foreign policy & made its own war decision. Rjensen (talk) 20:08, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Military history of Canada during the World War IIMilitary history of Canada during World War II — This article was recently moved from Military history of Canada during the Second World War, but the definite article, which is not used with "World War II", was accidentally left in the article title. The choice of "World War II" versus "Second World War" may be controversial. A move of Military history of Canada during World War I was discussed in 2010. Indefatigable (talk) 22:48, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is noncontroversial and I've listed it as such. If you'd like to open a move discussion to put this and/or the First World War article back at their other titles, go ahead. But the latter failed to get moved twice in 2010, so I assumed that a similar move request here (to "World War II" format) would get approval. Srnec (talk) 03:19, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"World War II" is OK with me. (I have a slight preference for "Second World War", but not strong enough to start a discussion on it.) I tried to delete the word the myself, but there was a redirect in the way. I decided to list the move as potentially controversial just as a precaution. It's not up to anyone here to say what their preference is, or to declare the move controversial or not. The official historian of the Canadian Army uses the term "Second World War", and in fact, all official histories in the Commonwealth use the term Second World War. If, however, Wikipedia has decided to use the term 'World War II', as indeed, the U.S. official historians have, that is another matter. But mention should be made in a footnote. The "official" name of this conflict in Canada is "the Second World War." Wikipedia is not, however, a Canadian website. 139.48.25.60 (talk) 22:07, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gaps in Content

[edit]

This article is heavily weighted towards military policy history. There are many important historic elements missing or underdeveloped, including;

  • military relations with the UK
  • military relations with the US
  • defence of sovereignty deployments within Canada against the United States
  • the roles of Army, Navy and Air Force units across the globe
  • the Merchant Navy
  • the role of women
  • the 1940 deployment to Brest
  • Canada's role in the Battle of Britain: RCAF deployments, construction of fortifications and other preparations
  • Sappers in Gibraltar
  • Occupation, evacuation and raising of Spitzbergen
  • The defence of Hong Kong
  • The Aleutian Campaign
  • Canada's role in the Pacific -mule transport, 14th Army officers, RCAF, etc...

Thoughts? Objections to initiating some edits to reduce policy components and increase military activity components? --IseeEwe (talk) 00:15, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gap in Content - Enemy Kills

[edit]

I admittedly know very little about warfare - only enough to recognize that 'confirmed kills' is not an easy thing to establish - but nonetheless there seems to be a marked lack of any information [on this wiki and on the internet in general] about how many people Canadian soldiers killed during the Second World War. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.157.29.129 (talk) 22:20, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian contributions to the Manhattan project?

[edit]

Perhaps should be in here somewhere.132.3.45.81 (talk) 22:05, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. A link to Canadian contributions to the Manhattan project: Manhattan_Project#Canadian_sites. Where would this go? Juan Riley (talk) 03:54, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
A better link would be to Canada and weapons of mass destruction#Early history: World War II and into the Cold War. The short version: Canadian contributions to the Manhattan Project were very, very small. Ylee (talk) 07:19, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Miscellaneous vehicles"

[edit]

"Manufacturer" is sometimes country and sometimes builder country. How many times do you want to link a country? Should Chevrolet be Chevrolet and Ford Motor Company be Ford Motor Company of Canada? There are links to Associated Equipment Company and Morris Motors.

Should Chevy/Ford CMPs be listed twice by letter prefix ("C" and "F"). They are near identical except for the Chevy C60X 6x6 and Ford F60H 6x4. If they should be separate, should "C" be before "F" alphabetically?

The Diamond T 4-ton lorry was built in the US, not the UK. There is also a link to the vehicle.

"Years in use" is empty and impossible anyway. Weight rating of some type? Anything with at least any info?

Thank you. Sammy D III (talk) 14:10, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Military history of Canada during World War IICanada in World War II – Most history articles covering this period are simply titled x in World War II, such as Thailand in World War II and Romania in World War II. One of the few exceptions is United States in World War II, but that's only because that article is split into "military history" and the "home front". This article is about both, so there's no reason to not use the more concise title of Canada in World War II. Hko2333 (talk) 16:35, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I presume there is a reason for this form of title beyond making things more complicated than they need to be. Only Australia, the Pacific Islands and the United Kingdom have home front articles. (The US has already been mentioned.) Srnec (talk) 15:09, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
