I have a Andalusian hound. Is there any images that can be added for better clarity? 108.48.55.131 (talk) 02:44, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Name Change

[edit]

From my search of sources, the majority of the English sources describe this dog as the Andalusian Podenco or Andalusian Hound. Per Wikipedia naming conventions, I wonder if the name should be changed.

From Wikipedia's article titles: The choice between anglicized and local spellings should follow English-language usage, e.g. the non-anglicized titles Besançon, Søren Kierkegaard, and Göttingen are used because they predominate in English-language reliable sources, whereas for the same reason the anglicized title forms Nuremberg, Delicatessen, and Florence are used (as opposed to Nürnberg, Delikatessen, and Firenze, respectively). Well, Annwfwn, for the name to be changed you'd need to show convincingly that, in reliable English-language sources, one particular English-language name is used substantially more than the actual name of the breed. A quick search on Scholar (this, and variations on it) doesn't get enough hits to be significant in my opinion. It does seem to suggest that of the three names you've mentioned, 'Andalusian Podenco' is the least used, so maybe that should not be what we call it in the article text. @Justlettersandnumbers:, Very good point. I tallied up the sources I used. Thoughts? My primary objective is consistency.

Reference format

[edit]

I'm thinking of doing some work on this page, as I have on pages for a number of other Spanish breeds (so I have a good number of relevant sources available). If I'm to do so, I'd like to change the references to list-definedi.e., the references would appear in the text in read mode, but be collected in the reference section in edit mode (leaving the article text uncluttered and much easier to edit). I'l only do that if no-one objects, so ... does anyone have any objection? If not, I'll probably make the change in a day or two. Is there any truth to this?
