Pușcașu and Hungarian[edit]

Myself, I have absolutely no doubt that the name, like most names of Transylvanian Romanians, is Hungarian in origin. However, this revert refers to the fact that a specific source would have to mention this fact in relation to Sextil and his family, not simply trace the origin of the word pușcaș, that became the name, as that is deeply original research. At the very least find a dictionary of onomastics to back it! Let's also note that the source cited for that tidbit does not in fact say that the word is Hungarian, but indicates its derivation from pușcă ("gun"); pușcă is a word of Hungarian origin, but, like many other Hungarian words (oraș?), it is so ingrained in Romanian vocabulary that it is misleading to simply call it a Hungarian word. Yes, back in the 1600s it was a Hungarian neologism.

In short, the provided citation does not verify the text. Dahn (talk) 07:26, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
