Life imitates art?
[edit]The Elisa Lam incident is very similar to the horror movie initiating death Dark Water (2005 film)/Dark Water (2002 film) -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 07:55, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
Name change
[edit]FYI - The name of this hotel has been changed to Stay on Main. http://www.stayonmain.com/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:e000:1505:c128:7dac:fc53:d7d0:5667 (talk) 00:17, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
i am seeing signs that the former Cecil Hotel has closed despite the attempt to rebrand. is this correct?[1] "Accept me as i am, only then may we discover each other." (talk) 11:17, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
- I've been wondering the same thing, but no official clarity that I can find. — e. ripley\talk 18:05, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Cecil Hotel (Los Angeles) → Stay on Main – Hotel is now named "Stay on Main." Would've moved myself, but "Stay on Main" redirects to "Cecil Hotel (Los Angeles)" Zzyzx (talk) 18:11, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). — Amakuru (talk) 19:29, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
- Comment, leaning oppose many sources still seem to call it the "Cecil Hotel". Needs a full RM. — Amakuru (talk) 19:29, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose - Cecil Hotel is commonly used --Temp87 (talk) 20:51, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
- Weak Oppose. A move with a redirect wouldn't ruin my day, but "Cecil Hotel" seems to be the WP:COMMONNAME, despite the hotel's owner's aversion to it. TJRC (talk) 20:53, 22 March 2017 (UTC)

Closed?
[edit]Their website seems to be dead, and there are conflicting personal accounts online, mostly on review sites, of the hotel being closed. I can't find any sourcing to indicate such a thing, though -- the renovations were being written about as recently as this May. Anyone have any better info? — e. ripley\talk 17:35, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
- I couldn't find any coverage indicating it is officially closed, although I saw the review sites with people noting the temporary closure during the remodel. -- Dane talk 17:44, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
- That was my experience, too. My guess is they're closed pending the remodeling, but the dead site does make me wonder. BTW, since you're paying attention -- I dislike the text dump list of all suspicious deaths, I think the article would be better served to summarize in narrative format the more significant ones, and maybe fork that raw list into List of suspicious deaths at the Cecil Hotel. (Stylistically it's also horrendous but that's solvable.) What do you think? — e. ripley\talk 00:51, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- Actually after reading more closely through the list, most of these are tragic, but not necessarily suspicious. I would imagine that most hotels that have been around for any length of time probably would have fairly impressive lists of bad stuff that's happened there. That being said, I'd be in favor of summarizing in prose the most salacious or strange ones, and just leaving the rest out, perhaps with a couple lines touching on the number of suicides through the years. Thoughts? — e. ripley\talk 02:19, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

List moved
[edit]I did a fair bit of work on sourcing the history section, and also turning the bullet pointed list into the high points of a narrative of deaths and other suspicious activity. I've moved the list that used to be here to List of deaths and violence at the Cecil Hotel which still needs lots of help with sourcing. The cultural references section could also use some sprucing up with a nod to American Horror Story too. — e. ripley\talk 18:43, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Questionable...
[edit]The article currently asserts the Hotel was built in 1900. Curbed says 1924. So I changed it. Geo Swan (talk) 06:40, 15 November 2019 (UTC)
