Points and Certifications System[edit]

Singles[edit]

Platinum Gold
600+ Points 300+ Points
  • Certifications are awarded to singles at JayJ47's Music Charts (JMC's) sole discretion. Generally speaking, a song must earn at least 300 points in order to receive a Gold certification and 600 points for a Platinum certification. However, a single is eligible for a Gold or Platinum certification if it has met the minimum threshold for that particular certification (255 points for a Gold certification and 510 points for a Platinum certification, which equates to 85% of the total points required for each certification). The same rules also apply to any future certifications the single may receive. For example, generally speaking a song must earn a minimum of 1,200 points in order to receive a 2× Platinum certification but it is eligible for this certification once it has met the minimum threshold for this certification (1,020 points which is 85% of 1,200 points). Some singles may receive certain certifications even if they have not met the minimum threshold or earned the minimum amount of points required for those certifications. This usually occurs when JMC feels that such a certification is warranted for that particular single e.g. when a song has not performed well on JayJ47's Music Charts and thus has not earned many points but still deserves a certification.

Albums[edit]

Platinum Gold
2,000+ Points 1,000+ Points
  • Certifications are awarded to albums at JayJ47's Music Charts (JMC's) sole discretion. Generally speaking, an album's certification is determined by the amount of points earned by its singles. All of the points earned by its singles are added together to give the album's total number of points, which in turn is used to determine its certification. As of July 20, 2013, an album must earn at least 1,000 points in order to receive a Gold certification and 2,000 points for a Platinum certification. Any future certifications will be awarded once the album has earned the minimum amount of points required or have met the minimum threshold for those certifications based on the 85% rule as documented in the "Singles" section above. All previous certifications awarded to albums released prior to this date will be changed in accordance with these new rules.

For example, as of July 20, 2013 Rihanna's fifth studio album, Loud (2010) is certified 4× Platinum by JMC for earning 8,142 points. Its points were determined by adding the points earned by its five singles together:

JayJ47's Top 50 of The Year[edit]

At the end of each calendar year, an annual list of singles is published by JayJ47's Music Charts to document the year in music. The year-end charts for 2013 were compiled in late December, beginning on December 21, 2013.

Avicii (pictured) and Nicky Romero's single, "I Could Be The One" was the No. 1 single of 2013, making the pair the first Swedish artist and Dutch artist to top the year-end singles chart in the chart's history.

This year saw the dominance of American artists on JayJ47's Music Charts start to decline as the British began closing the gap on their American counterparts. Of the twenty-seven songs that reached number-one this year, ten were released by American artists, which was the highest amount for any nation this year. However, while the British ranked second with seven number-one hits, they spent a total of eighteen weeks at number-one, which was three weeks longer than the Americans. The year was also particularly successful for Australian artists and Swedish artists with Samantha Jade and Avicii leading the charge. 2013 also saw a French, Puerto Rican and Canadian artist reach the summit.

"I Could Be The One" by Avicii vs. Nicky Romero was ranked as the Year-End No. 1 Single for 2013. It was the longest charting single of the year, spending forty-five weeks on the chart and accumulated more points than any other single released throughout the year. "One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)" by One Direction and "Firestarter" by Samantha Jade were the longest running number-one hits of the year, both spending six non-consecutive weeks at the top spot. One Direction also made more appearances than any other artist on this year's year-end chart with six singles.

American recording artist, P!nk ranked 2nd with her single, "Try" which was named this year's Record of The Year, giving P!nk her first victory in a Major Music Award category. 2012 UK X Factor Winner, James Arthur finished in third place with his single, "Impossible", Christina Aguilera ranked fourth with her 2012 number-one hit, "Your Body" which makes her the first artist in JayJ47's Music Charts history to have had the same single rank in the year-end top ten twice; Samantha Jade rounds out this year's top five with her six week chart leader, "Firestarter". OneRepublic ranked sixth with "Counting Stars", Miley Cyrus ranked seventh with "We Can't Stop", The Wanted secured the eighth place with "Walks Like Rihanna" and P!nk and Nate Ruess shared ninth place with "Just Give Me a Reason". Olly Murs rounds out this year's top ten with his single, "Dear Darlin'" which was the only single in the year-end top ten, not to have reached number-one.

Pink ranked 2nd on the year-end chart with her single, "Try" which also won the award for Record of The Year.
Samantha Jade's single, "Firestarter" was the longest running number-one hit of the year (tied with One Direction's "One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)") and the highest ranked Australian single on the year end chart.

JayJ47's Music Awards[edit]

JayJ47's Music Awards honours the best in Music for the year 2013. The awards categories remained the same from the previous year although "Best Group Artist" and "Best Music Video" were re-named "Best Duo or Group Artist" and "JMC Video of The Year" and the amount of nominees for each category was increased to a maximum of seven. The criteria for the "Last Minute Single of The Year" category was also changed to allow any song released towards the end of the year eligible for this award. In previous years, songs were only eligible for this award if they were released in December.

American recording artist and this year's Hall of Fame inductee, P!nk led this year's nominations with thirteen followed by Avicii and Samantha Jade with nine, One Direction and The Wanted with eight, James Arthur and Nicky Romero with seven and Taylor Swift, MKTO, Zedd, Jessica Mauboy, Christina Aguilera and Rihanna with six. Avicii and Nicky Romero won more awards than any other artist this year, winning four awards, followed by One Direction who won three and P!nk, James Arthur and Samantha Jade who each won two.

P!nk's single, "Try" won the award for Record of The Year, defeating Avicii and Nicky Romero's single, "I Could Be The One" by the slimmest of margins and thus giving P!nk her first Major Music Award. British-Irish boy band, One Direction claimed the other two Major Music Awards for Album of The Year and Artist of The Year, which makes the group the first act in JayJ47's Music Charts history to win these awards back-to-back in consecutive years. They also become the first act to win any of the three Major Music Awards twice. P!nk and British group, The Wanted were the only artists this year who were nominated for all three Major Music Awards. Jessica Mauboy dominated the Australian Music Awards with four nominations and a win for Australian Album of The Year whilst Samantha Jade took out the awards for Australian Artist of The Year and Australian Single of The Year.

Hall of Fame Inductee[edit]

Introduced in 2012, JayJ47's Hall of Fame was created to honour recording artists and contributors to music and to recognize noteworthy achievements. Chart performance and significant achievements (based on JayJ47's Music Charts), years within the industry and other contributions (such as songwriting or record producing for example) are also taken into consideration when selecting an inductee.

P!nk[edit]

American recording artist, P!nk is this year's Hall of Fame inductee.

This year's inductee is American recording artist, P!nk. Since her debut in 2000, P!nk has become one of the most successful recording artists in JayJ47's Music Charts history. Throughout her career so far, P!nk has amassed five number-one albums and a multitude of top ten singles including twelve number-one singles, which ranks her in second place (tied with Britney Spears) as the artist with the most number-one singles in JayJ47's Music Charts history.

P!nk rose to prominence following the release of her debut studio album, Can't Take Me Home (2000), which spawned the number-one hits, "There You Go" and "Most Girls". The following year, P!nk enjoyed further success as her sophomore album, Misundaztood (2001) became her first number-one album and produced the top three hits, "Get the Party Started" and "Just Like a Pill", with the former single becoming P!nk's third number-one hit on the chart.

After a relatively quiet period, P!nk returned to prominence with the release of her fourth studio album, I'm Not Dead (2006). The album became her second chart topper on the albums chart and produced five top two singles including the number-one hits, "Who Knew" and "U + Ur Hand". P!nk backed up her renewed success with the release of her fifth studio album, Funhouse (2008), which remains one of the highest certified albums in JayJ47's Music Charts history. Five singles released from the album attained multi-platinum status and charted within the top five of JayJ47's Top 25 Countdown, with three of these singles ("So What", "Please Don't Leave Me" and "I Don't Believe You") reaching number-one.

In 2010, P!nk released her first greatest hits compilation, Greatest Hits... So Far!!! (2010) which spawned the #2 peaking singles, "Raise Your Glass" and "Fuckin' Perfect". However, it wasn't until 2012 when P!nk began dominating JayJ47's Music Charts once again. Her sixth studio album, The Truth About Love (2012) became her fifth consecutive number-one album and earned her two consecutive nominations for Album of The Year. Its first three singles, "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)", "Try" and "Just Give Me a Reason" all reached number-one and achieved multi-platinum status with "Try" also earning P!nk her first victory in a major music award category by winning her the 2013 award for Record of The Year.

Records, Significant Achievements and Notable Events[edit]

The following is a list of records broken, significant achievements made or notable events that occurred throughout the year.

  1. Robin Thicke, Pharrel and T.I. became the first artists in JayJ47's Music Charts history to re-enter the chart at #1 when their single, "Blurred Lines" returned to the chart at the top position after one week of absence. They would go on to break the record for shortest running number-one single the following week as "Blurred Lines" dropped off the chart after spending just two weeks on the chart. This record had previously been held by Calvin Harris and Kelis and their #1 single, "Bounce", which spent a total of four weeks on the chart.
  2. Avicii and Nicky Romero's single, "I Could Be The One" broke a number of records this year. It spent more weeks at #3 than any other single in the history of the chart (ten weeks) and broke the records for "Most Weeks Spent in the Top Ten" and "Most Consecutive Weeks Spent in the Top Ten". Both of these records had previously been held by One Direction and their single, "One Thing". "I Could Be The One" was eventually named the year-end No. 1 single, making Avicii the first Swedish artist and Nicky Romero the first Dutch artist to top the year-end singles chart.
  3. T.I. and P!nk became the first artists to drop out of the chart after having a single rank in the top five of the previous week's chart when their single, "Guns and Roses" dropped out of the chart from #5. The Collective had dropped out of the chart from #9 with their single, "Surrender" earlier in the year.
  4. Jessica Mauboy became the first artist in the chart's history to have two separate singles with the exact same title chart on the Mainstream Singles Chart when her single, "Beautiful" debuted at #19. Mauboy's previous single entitled "Beautiful" was a cover of a Christina Aguilera song.
  5. Rihanna extended her all-time record of "Most Number-One Hits" in JayJ47's Music Charts history to fifteen when her collaboration with Eminem, "The Monster" reached #1 on the chart on December 21, 2013.
