Undeleting article on Canadian Actress Niamh Wilson
[edit]Hi Lectonar, I'd like to try and reinstate the article on actress Niamh Wilson [1][2], [3], [4], [5],[6], [7], [8]. I suspect it was deleted because of copying verbatim from IMDb. I'd like to fix the article to present it in an acceptable format.Elleayejay (talk) 18:35, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Userfication request - Hortax - the Horticultural Taxonomy Group
[edit]Hi Lectonar!
This was my "Contested deletion" comment on the talk page:
Talk:Hortax - the Horticultural Taxonomy Group
While this started as an unambiguous cut and paste from various pages from the http://www.hortax.org.uk/index.html websites , it would not appear to be unambiguously promotional, just a rather somewhat ill-advised but good faith attempt at creating a Wikipedia article. I've chopped out the offending text. I would suggest that WP:A7 may be a better CSD criterion, though I will be working on the article to avoid that.--Shirt58 (talk) 10:44, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
I suggest you may possibly have read the version that was an unambiguous copyvio. The choice to WP:USERFY is of course, yours, and I will abide by whatever decision you make.--Shirt58 (talk) 10:56, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello Lectonar,
Under the Hebrew definition of a "copywriter"here i have uploaded this picture File:Http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/8024/42967923377993581267993.jpg' it is a photograph of a Hebrew copywriter.
i was informed it was deleted for vandalizing, or something of that nature. I don't see the reason why?.
thank you for your kind help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Metalny (talk • contribs) 16:06, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I hope that you did take your time to actually read what I have written about the Cif2.net subject. I know that you are busy and I ask you kindly to take your time properly with every article, or if you think that the topic bores you, at least leave it to someone who actually cares.
I am waiting your reply and please tell me what you think I have omitted in the article I've written. Wikipedia is about gathering information, not about deleting it.

[edit]Dear administrator, i myself rewrote the whole article a few hours ago from the beginning. You may have deleted it because of the tag. Confusing selective deletion, apparent lack of response to queries about your administrative actions
[edit]I'm confused as to why you have today selectively deleted two queries from users from your talk page history: [1] [2]. Could you explain why these edits have been deleted from your talk page history? These seem to be good faith queries from users who are inquiring about your administrative actions.
On a related note: looking through your talk page history, there have been many queries from users about your actions, and most seem to have gone without reply. Please remember that, as administrators, we are bound by policy to respond "promptly and civilly to queries about their Wikipedia-related conduct and administrator actions and to justify them when needed." –xenotalk 15:49, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

welcome the decline of wikipedia - scholarpedia will do better
[edit]I want to correct my reply to your question. After all, I welcome the decline of wikipedia, as it will make room for scholarpedia.
it is not about any lack of deference to scholars felt in WP, quite the contrary: editors revere expert opinion and "secondary sources" too much. With scholarpedia, there is the guarantee of good editors (Nobel prizes, etc..).
I did not ask for that much. A teenager enforcing normal rules (give priority to verifiable evidence over expert opinion) would have been enough to keep me on WP.
Maybe this division is unavoidable: quality content on SP, poor content on WP.
SP is a peer-reviewed "secondary source", quotable in WP. But will there remain someone on WP to quote it properly? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dynsys (talk • contribs) 23:13, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Feedback on templates
[edit]Hi there,
I was speaking of infoboxes and templates in general, having none specifically in mind but rather they excessive sprinkling throughout the site. I just realized however that it is not as invasive here as on the French one (my port of call, so to speak; I only came here to steal the code for the picture of Beef Stroganoff), where they literally use templates for anything (even dates or not-so-large (>100) numbers) - but then these guys didn't offer me the chance to complain about it! But then even on the English version I would find that seeing the box code first thing when I open a page for edition is kind of a deal breaker.
Thanks anyway for the quick reply, much appreciated. I see someone already gave you a bunch of barnstars for that: keep up the good work!
Best regards, Karl Vatel (talk) 14:52, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
PS: since I'm at it, I should say I also have a hard time understanding why editing is in Times New Roman while articles are in Arial or Helvetica (sans serif). Just sayin' ;-)
Game-Debate help!
[edit]Hi Lectonar. I have no idea who you are or if you are an admin but since you were gracious enough to reply to my feedback, I'd like to ask for your help. I have been updating the Game-Debate page on my spare time but the users have nominated it again for deletion due to insufficient information. I don't want to sound impolite, so I will ask it smoothly but: is that some kind of joke? I am still updating the page or does a page need to be done wholly? Is that it?
Anyway, I want to upload the logo of GD to wikipedia's image list but I am having trouble. The site owner gave me permission to do so but if I select that option a speedy deletion appears. Some of the warnings that show are really annoying and leave you with no other option but to forget about this and just leave. I will not give up so easily though.

User AzseicsoK
[edit]Thanks for your reply. I'm having to respond as an IP User. I posted the question by way of a link at the top of the page--something about commenting on editing experience. Apart from that, when I log in, I suddenly have nothing by way of a search box or the options normally at the top of the page. I can't even log out; I have to get off the Internet completely. It happened suddenly, when I was playing with Userboxes. BTW, I too can get to my User Page--as in IP User. It does seem that I can get messages on my User Page. That's where I saw yours. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.147.236.195 (talk) 15:51, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
- The problem somehow solved itself. First, I discovered that I did seem to have the necessary links; they were just sort of scattered and mish-mashed on top of itself at the bottom of the page. Second, I found out that after I created my account yesterday, my email had been putting the confirmation messages from Wikipedia into my spam box. I got them and acknowledged them; the problem was still there. But now, I come back a couple of hours later, and everything seems to be where it's supposed to be.

Help with userfication
[edit]Hi Lectonar,
I was wondering if you would consider userfying a deleted page for me. The page was located at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fournote It was deleted according to the G11 and G12 criteria. My goal in userfying this page is to work on a revision and attempt a restoration that will be a part of an ongoing series of assignments that I'm completing for an Advanced Composition English class. This particular assignment involves encouraging an awareness of how Wikipedia works, how to improve it, and -- especially -- how to recognize articles that do not comply with Wikipedia guidelines.

Re- directing articles
[edit]Hi, lectonar, Thank you for your motivational message(On giving my feedback). However i have a simple question on how to redirect the articles. I have been expanding the phrynoderma article, which is also called Hypovitaminosis A and also Follicular Hyperkeratosis. When i search for Focullar hyperkeratosis, it takes me to the page where there is a articles about the whole keratosis. But i want to re-direct the follicular keratosis page to phrynoderma.
Here's the map/tree for you to understand. Hypovitaminosis --> Phrynoderma
" <--- "
Now when people search follicular keratosis, i want it to be re-directed to phrynoderma or hypervitaminosis which are same. And also, please edit the phrynoderma article for spelling and grammatical mistakes because i'm just 16 from India and iam not experienced in writing. If you get ample time, could you please fix the reference link on the article. [edit]Many thanks for your answer. I understand there can be a conflict of interest in my message with the use of "our" but the article that was created was very neutral and informative explaining who is EPF. Hi. I'm unhappy with your removal of Jean-Joseph Chapuis from Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English. I would have thought that the standard of writing needs to be brought at least to the point that a copy editor could work on the article without knowing the original language. In the current version of the article, we find, just for a short example: "The lower body is made of a mobile party which comes, with the aid of a big ring of gold copper crossed in the face of a lion forward, sliding in a fixed frame adorned with two commanded scabbards of suckle female bronzy skated." That looks like gobbledygook to me. Would you restore the request, please? Regards, --Stfg (talk) 13:25, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I think it's a machine translation. But that's not good enough for an encyclopedia, is it? If a human can understand it, we can copy edit, but if we can't even understand it, we need better translation, n'est-ce pas? (Please reply here to keep threading. I watchlist.) --Stfg (talk) 14:09, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- Vous avez raison :). J'oserai même dire que les traductions par machine sont presque inusables. Actually, machine translations make articles worse (and no, it is not good enough for an article); that is why I removed the part you alluded to. The rest may stand. If you still think you want the template back on the article, feel free. Cheers. Lectonar (talk) 14:17, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Paoli Dam article disruptive edits
[edit]Thanks for protecting the page, though I don't think protecting it for 3 days will be very helpful. In the first week of this month, I corrected few formatting errors in that article and replied to a post in talk page (discussion can be found in talk page). Right after that I got a high tone message in my talk page where that editor told some irrelevant things like he knows the actress, he has met her, his daughter was subject's school friend, he is professionally attached to the film industry. I d(id/o)n't know if these are really important in Wikipedia editing. In the message in my talk page, he told, he does not sign in to that account unless it is necessary. He is using a dynamic IP address, that's why we have lost enthusiasm to warn new IPs everytime. I am not sure 1) if it is good ground to warn the registered account because he has told in my talk page that he edits anonymously 2) the (anonymous) edits look like WP:DUCK. About the content he is adding, I completely dislike the hysterical saucy tone (and specially use of wordpress blog ref in support)! Thanks for protecting the page once again. Hope you'll help to find a permanent/long-lasting solution. You can find a similar discussion in Paoli Dam article's talk page. With my good wishes, Tito Dutta ✉ 13:56, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Zaytuna Farm
[edit]Hi
You originally deleted the Zaytuna Farm page and I was wondering if it could be re-instated as I believe it is a useful page about an educational venture that meeds wikipedia guidelines. I am happy to update what I can and am sure others would too.
Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Plmoknqwerty (talk • contribs) 00:42, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- The article from 2009 was in essence only a 1-liner, describing the subject of the article. So let's do it the other way round: see WP:Yourfirstarticle, and follow the guidelines there to create an article in your sandbox. Lectonar (talk) 06:36, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks!

Paoli Dam 2
[edit]Continued from here, could you please have a look at Talk:Paoli Dam? --Tito Dutta ✉ 22:46, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- I have protected for another 2 weeks. Lectonar (talk) 07:06, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
- I am getting seriously disturbed by the acts in these two articles. I have lots of other works (like collecting sources in the article NML Cygni, largest known star), I can not waste time here by clarifying things again an again.
- Trying to summarize the whole issue it is a two way problem. Paoli Dam has done some scenes in the film Chatrak (film).
- One group of editors (anonymous editor) are trying sensationalize the portion by giving every minute details of those scenes with some wordpess reference, wrong formatting etc.
- Second group of editor are disliking the mention of anything in the article, And they are removing almost everything from the article.
- In talk page we tried to reach a consensus that we'll not write in a hysterical erotic tone (what editor group 1 are doing) and then we made a summary of the portion with good references. Now editor group 2 is removing that summarized that portion too. In such situation editor group 1 is again adding the hysterical portion since there is nothing in the article. Then we are back to starting point again with removing unencyclopedic, hysterical portion and summarizing etc! That is creating a circle! --Tito Dutta ✉ 20:09, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, at the moment I have no time for this (very busy in real life). You should perhaps try dispute resolution. Cheers. Lectonar (talk) 13:46, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Von Portugal translation
[edit]Hello. I was on Wikipedia:Translators available and notice that you were on the list for German to English translators and wondered if you could translate and add materials from de:Manuel von Portugal and de:Emilia von Oranien-Nassau to their English articles and create articles for their two children de:Manuel António von Portugal and de:Mauritia Eleonora von Portugal and their spouse de:Johanna von Hanau-Münzenberg and de:Georg Friedrich (Nassau-Siegen). If you can't I will understand. Thank you!--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 23:23, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

- Thanks for the ping. Now let's see how he reacts to the answer given. As far as legal threats go, that one is rather weak. 06:54, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Strategy Execution
[edit]Dear Lectonar, My article was not intended as spam or advertisement. I am a student of the Maritime Academy in Antwerp and as an assignment for economics we had to make a Wikipedia article. I used many different sources (as listed) and do not think I violated any rules. Could you specify which part you do not accept in the article so I can adapt it? Thank you for your consideration,

A cup of tea for you!
[edit]Well I was on my way here to offer you some sort of reward for your hard work at RPP, but it looks like Calanecc beat me to it. Can't give you too many brownies, you'll get fat - have a cup of tea to dunk it in, instead. Yunshui 雲水 13:35, 28 November 2012 (UTC) |
