Olvid is a European multiplatform instant messaging software for smartphones and computers that allows text messages and files to be exchanged over the Internet, as well as audio and video calls. Founded in December 2018 under the leadership of two cryptography doctors, Thomas Baignères and Matthieu Finiasz, the Olvid company was incubated within Agoranov, an institutional incubator [1].

The application is ultra-secured and available on all types of Smartphone, Android and iOS and computer. The main break compared to the most widespread messaging such as Facebook Messenger, Telegram, or Signal is that the data is not hosted on servers, which is supposed to protect exchanges between users [2], [3]. However, spying is still possible if the used phone is otherwise infected [4]. The application is free for individuals [5].

Following Jeff Bezos' phone hacking revelation via a WhatsApp message [6], [7], the release of large-scale spying from Crypto AG since the 1970s [8], and doubts about Telegram's independence from the Russian governement [9], Olvid experienced an increase of popularity [10], [11], [12]. In addition, the company's founders pretend to be ready for the quantum cryptography transition [13].

Olvid collaborates with YesWeHack to validate its code [14], [15].
