Hello, I'm Philipnelson99. I noticed that in this edit to Piedmont University, you removed content without adequately explaining why. Managing conflicts of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, 204.126.178.254. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Piedmont University, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.   –Skywatcher68 (talk) 19:50, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response. While I do not have an external relationship with either of the individuals referenced, I am currently employed by the university. I do not believe the paragraph I removed is relevant enough to the historical identity of the university to warrant the proportion of the history section it takes up, nor do I believe it is relevant to audiences seeking to learn more about the university more generally. Neither of the parties mentioned are employed by the university any longer, and all of the litigation mentioned has either been settled or dismissed. I certainly understand the relevance if litigation was ongoing or if former President Mellichamp were still employed by the university, but I do not see how it is relevant to those wanting to learn more about the university in 2024. The institution has been around for more than 126 years, and for this page to position this content as so relevant to the historical impact of the institution that it takes up more than a third of the historical section is, to me, deceiving to those who may read the content of this page hoping to learn more about the the institution and its storied history. I am happy to recuse myself from further edits if my employment with Piedmont makes this a conflict of interest, however, I hope that moderators will reconsider the weight of this content's presence on the page against the historic and present context of the institution's history and continued impact on the Northeast Georgia region. 204.126.178.254 (talk) 16:31, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
