Not quite a revert war[edit]

Thanks to the little blip in service, we manage to revert to the exact same version of the pornography page no less than 7 times in less than a minute. Impressive. --Icelight 1 July 2005 22:35 (UTC)

Bach[edit]

My sources said it was Florence, but you can go ahead and reinsert Bach while I'm double checking them. Thanks. Cognition 2 July 2005 19:59 (UTC)

Your last post cleared up everything for me. Thanks again. Cognition 2 July 2005 20:10 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for reverting that vandalism to my user page.

James F. (talk) 5 July 2005 00:02 (UTC)

And mine, too. I don't think that editor and I are going to get along very well. Joyous (talk) July 9, 2005 02:27 (UTC)

Joergg[edit]

This person has vandalized a few pages more than three times. Can you block him? --Barista | a/k/a マイケル | T/C 22:54, 9 July 2005 (UTC)

He's now operating from User:Joerg2 and User:Testing124. HKT 06:24, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
Speaking of blocking vandals, please see 213.130.117.51 (talkcontribs). Thanks, HKT 07:41, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm also on the west coast, and I wanted to log off. :-) HKT 21:02, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Mozart[edit]

<from Opus33's talk page:> Ah, good, thanks. Funny thing is, I was just about to leave you a note asking you to have a look at that today. Hope all is well with you! Antandrus (talk) 15:26, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, Antandrus, I'm fine, and likewise to you.
Pages like Mozart and Beethoven are sort of frustrating, no? We get an awful lot of edits that aren't always that well-informed or well-integrated, so I was pleased to see you trying to keep Mozart in shape.
I bought Maynard Solomon's biography in hope of putting more solid facts into the Mozart article, but alas I don't find it very fun to read--all that morbid psychologizing and POV. Maybe you can suggest an alternative? Best wishes, Opus33 15:49, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
...
Thanks, Antandrus, I'll try that suggestion.
I've read Solomon Beethoven's biography and liked it better than I'm liking the Mozart--perhaps a better subject for dark psychologizing... Opus33 18:55, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Serialism[edit]

Hey Heidi & Joe, how's it going!

I saw the brushfire over at serialism and left a note on the talk page. Honestly, their version was pretty good; so was Stirling's. I'm afraid it's gonna have to be talked out.... one can always hope.  :-) Hope all is well with you! Antandrus (talk) 02:58, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back . All is well with us. We just saw the dust-up and thought it needed more attention than we could provide. If it's going well then we're sorry to have wasted your time. Thanks very much for looking into it and re-assuring us that all was on the up-and-up. Heidi & Joe

Encore[edit]

I foresee a repeat performance of yesterday's User:Joergg "entertainment." Please keep an eye on 61.129.44.201 (talkcontribs). Already three reverts on Ahmadinejad... HKT 05:39, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

...and he's now broken the 3RR in 60 minutes flat! HKT 05:45, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Clean-up[edit]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. It feels good to know there are people out there trying to make Wikipedia a nice place to be. – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 02:16, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

Stalkings[edit]

Oh, go ahead and edit as you please; when the revelation comes that we are one and the same I will come out looking the better for it. :-) And that's twice in one day my page has been vandalized and I've hardly made any edits! Alas, indeed, I won't make the LA wikimeetup either; some other time, though, we must sit down and improvise a bit. And duly noted, about the Musical Offering; thanks for the tip! (Just looked at their website: I suspect my suitcase will come home heavier and my wallet lighter...) I see Guido of Arezzo is at least respectable now, too... Mindspillage (spill yours?) 02:24, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

BULLSHIT DETECTOR account[edit]

The reason there is a user contributions link is because I created it to stop it from being (mis)used. Sorry for any confusion. I think Raul has blocked it. - Ta bu shi da yu 03:26, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for reverting my talk page . Just curious , how did you reach there . regards Farhansher 17:58, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Hello![edit]

Ha I just say the BULLSHIT DETECTOR thing, I was the one who found that guy and warned him about his name (as THE BULLSHIT DETECTIVE), he left a rather annoying (CAPS LOCK) message at my page, but ah well. Anyways, thank you much for your RfA vote! With respect, Redwolf24 21:10, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism on Sonata (Music)[edit]

We've got a disruptive editor on Sonata Music because I reverted his vanity link. I'm out of reverts for the day, and while I might like to push it and get a ruling, I think it better that the community make it clear to Mr. Sur, or his promoter, that this isn't the way things are done here.

Example

I think of it as a good lesson in humility. Stirling Newberry 20:53, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Fictitious locations[edit]

I'm getting a little irritated with that crowd and their creations. The ony thing that's left, I think, is "Skyland CDP, Virginia," that someone turned into a redirect. I'd actually like to delete that, too, because I don't want the vandals to have a trophy article left, but I hate to mess with someone's redirect. Joyous (talk) 02:46, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for nailing the imposter of my account earlier today. -- Jmabel | Talk 05:42, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

I just happened to be watching recent changes when he showed up. I'm starting to spend more time here swatting vandals than writing articles ... argh. Nice work on gift economy, btw. Antandrus (talk) 05:48, 20 July 2005 (UTC)
Good catch, especially after only 3 edits. Bet it would have been harder if the User page was subtle! TNX on gift economy. And I know all about getting into the mode where one rarely has time to watch articles: I now have 2000 articles on my watchlist, probably one out of ten is seriously controversial, and it sometimes seems like I am completely reactive. -- Jmabel | Talk 06:00, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

Second opinion, please[edit]

Earlier, I rolled back a lot of edits from User:4.242.21.232, who was adding a link to several different articles. It looked like link-spam to me. The user left a message on my talk page, chastising me, and now I'm second-guessing myself. Do these look spammy to you?

And several more, all from various pages of the same website. Joyous (talk) 04:18, July 21, 2005 (UTC)

thanks for supporting me[edit]

Hello, just a quick note to express my gratitude for your support of my RfA. I'm sure I'll become a familiar face on places like the Administrator's Noticeboard and Requests for Adminship, as well as the murkier parts of my new job. "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." (Luke 12:48, NIV) Never was a truer word spoken. I feel empowered, yes, but not in the "oooh cool delete button!" way I was kind of expecting. Already I feel the weight of the responsibility I have now been entrusted with, a weight that will no doubt reduce given time. Thank you for believing in me. :) GarrettTalk 10:36, 22 July 2005 (UTC)

User:Bishonen/Dorset Garden Spectacular[edit]

(Yeah, yeah, best ignore the edits of the Cosa Nostra or you might find a horse's head in your bed tonight!) Antandrus, this is amazing, you must be psychic. I was just thinking of messaging you a plea for a little help with the actual music in that article-to-be. OK, so it might be a little strange for a tone-deaf person to be writing about opera to begin with, I know, but, well, if you take a look at the talk page, you'll see me explaining to Geogre about the fun stage directions I stumbled on, only I never seem to actually get to them... and then there's the problem of the music. How do you feel about adding a few, well, slightly more professional-sounding terms than "and then there was an uh, craze for, hmm, music"? Nudge, nudge? Bishonen | talk 16:07, 23 July 2005 (UTC)

WP:WPWI[edit]

I recall you stating on my talk page a while ago that you used to live in Milwaukee. If you're interested, I've just set up a Wisconsin wikiproject. Cheers--BaronLarf 05:09, July 25, 2005 (UTC)

Greetings[edit]

Nice to be back... it looks like WP went crazy while I was gone... is it always like this and me too wrapped up in it to notice? Spotted me quick, you did... just replying to messages for now, though I did pick up some more books to use as references (had a good time but never did make it out to Berkeley, alas, though I did see the Berkeley Chamber Group). Have to admit I've never heard the piece, or anything else by Rzewski... You ought to post your wildly POV writings somewhere too, sometime. :-) And now I fall asleep, after a crack-of-dawn flight this morning... Mindspillage (spill yours?) 05:32, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

Porgy and Bess FAC[edit]

Hello again. I noticed that you are a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera. It'd be great if you could give your two cents at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Porgy and Bess/archive1; this is the first opera up for FA status, and we'd like to start setting a standard to strive for with other articles. Thanks much. --BaronLarf 22:07, July 25, 2005 (UTC)

John Howard -conscription dispute[edit]

Thanks for your imput on Howard dispute. The page appears to run by fellow political acolytes who refuse to accept factual reality and have removed my imput once again thus overriding your imput From my reading, Vietnam service (or lack of it!) has important political conseqences in US-but for some reason little traction here in Aust. Would appreciate any further imput via JH talk page. Eric A. Warbuton

Your contribs[edit]

I've enjoyed looking through your contribs and am amazed at their scale and scope. Like me, you seem to enjoy very early and very late music. There don't seem to be many people here interested in those things and consequently many articles aren't very good (or nonexistent) and much remains to be done. I just discovered this site and am glad there are others with similar interests. I knew I'd seen your signature before and it was likely on the Léonin article, the only one we've both edited (I added the part about his French name, which I'd learned in a musicology class). User:Bishonen/Dorset Garden Spectacular II[edit]

(Or, I figured, maybe Restoration spectacular, once the goats are gone.) Hi, repenting highbrow, how's things, are you curled up with Purcell? Are you on IRC? I'm taking an IRC break, in general, but I thought we might have a small chat, if agreeable. Bishonen | talk 19:18, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Sandbox gnome[edit]

Hola Antandrus, Que tal amigo? Me recuerdas? Todo pasa bien?

Congrats on you adminship!!

Could I ask your advice?

This may or may not refer to wikipedia but your metaphorical home as well.

Let us say a kid wants to play in sandbox but is polite and does not break any rules. I expect the kid to grow up eventually in the mean time, he spends his time in almost entirely in the Sandbox.

However he went to far and accidentally destroyed part of it. He doesn't contribute anything though and so the anti-fun bullies (trolls) totally ban him forever from the premises. Is this Ok? Could I ask your comment?

Please unban User:DrZoidberg.

Best regards and in Saint Jude,

Why I have done both[edit]

Adam, do you understand why vandalism is not good for an encyclopedia? Really? When I read your user page, the e-mail you sent me in July, and go through your contributions--including all the anonymous ones--I'm honestly baffled. You seem to think that your vandalism is all in good fun, and you can just casually change from a vandal into a good editor and back again without consequence. Please stop, because you DO do good work on Star Wars stuff, and we don't want to have to block you. OK? Antandrus (talk) 03:51, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

I understand the effect it has on the encyclopedia. One of the main motivations for me to start this wave of vandalism was my cousin, once again, who got me thinking about vandalism. I gues I just like the idea of maintaining a vigilante-type reputation, so to speak. I have found wikipedia to be an excellent place for all the "unknown" information on subjects such as the star wars pages, and one of the things I speciallize in on here is working on these details. There is a side to me similar to the ones who create viruses and worms and such. I do these things such as vandalism, simply to see what will happen. In the case of July, I was able to cause a discussion among top members and administrators towards changing some of the policies of wikipedia. To be honest, this was my goal. I think I've accomplished it. So I have a mindset of a serious wikipedian (or wikiphile), while at the same time I have a darker side. Ha! I hope this answers your question, and I understand your being baffled at my motives. That was sort of my goal from the beginning. Adamwankenobi 06:02, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

A Question[edit]

Why does an admin candidate have to be sane? insanity is fun!Gavin the Chosen 10:06, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

Primary candidates VFD[edit]

Many of the candidates for the June 14, 2005, congressional primary have been proposed for deletion. I am writing those who worked on election articles to request that they offer their votes against the proposal. The VFD's can be found starting at Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Log/2005_August_8#Peter_Fossett. It is my view that we ought to provide a complete record of the election and my deleting so called "minor" candidates we do a disservice to them and the historical record. Please vote against all these proposals.PedanticallySpeaking 14:54, August 9, 2005 (UTC)

[4] Weren't you looking for this before? (And is this indeed the one? I didn't want to leave a note for the anon without being able to check; I'd have to go over to the library to get my hands on the 1980. Oh, darn, I know, a trip to the library.)

Elgar sym 1[edit]

Thanks! I don't have the score. I went through the tune in my head, so I may have the wrong note-count. There's another anecdote I like: someone (my memory says Boult, but I realize he would only have been 18 at the time) made a bet with Elgar that he couldn't write an A-flat major symphony whose first subject begins in D minor. He did, of course, if you don't count the intro. History doesn't record whether Elgar collected. Now I'm going to de-stub Music Makers, although Apostles and Kingdom also call. First I have to finish listening to the Seattle Rheingold, which is on radio right now (I think that's the rainbow bridge). David Brooks 04:56, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

Witold Lutosławski: advice please[edit]

Hello, Antandrus. I value your judgement more than somewhat: could you please take a look at this? I need some advice (and consolation if you feel it's appropriate). I'm pretty despondent with the response to the FAC so far: it feels like two slaps in the face. Is the article way below FAC status in your view? With the uploader unavailable, should I remove the images until their copyright status can be demonstrated to Carnildo's satisfaction? Should I remove the article from FAC (something I think I may do anyway given the first responses)? Kind regards. --RobertGtalk 20:30, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

Many thanks. I'm signing off for now - look forward to your comments in due course. --RobertGtalk 20:51, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

Thank you, Antandrus, I appreciate it. After sleeping on it I see now that I responded as much to Everyking's manner as his point. I shall rewrite the offending sentence to make it clearer, incorporating your sensible take on it. I will get to Grove later and mention Derwid as you suggest. And your prescience about requests for music samples was uncanny :-) I still don't quite understand the objection about the images (Karol Langner has already verified the copyright status), but it'll pan out no doubt. --RobertGtalk 10:07, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

AOL related blocking problems[edit]

When you block individuals using the Autoblock software (see below), you also block innocent individuals who are randomly assigned the same IP number. This happens to me frequently. Please see my user page -- User:WBardwin/AOL Block Collection -- for a history of these events. I would appreciate a prompt release of this block so I can get back to work. Thank you. WBardwin 08:20, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

Your user name or IP address has been blocked by Antandrus. The reason given is this: Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Mickey656". The reason given for Mickey656's block is: "vandal account". Your IP address is 207.200.116.199.

I've unblocked, and I'll remind WBardwin again that just because the admin's name is in the block, doesn't mean that admin was in any way involved in placing the autoblock. -- Essjay · Talk 08:38, August 17, 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for your response. I appreciate the interest in this ongoing software problem. Peace. WBardwin 15:54, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

Here we go again. Here is today's block history. If you are hanging around, please release this block. Thanks. WBardwin 17:02, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

Your user name or IP address has been blocked by Golbez. The reason given is this: Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Mickey658". The reason given for Mickey658's block is: "someone obviously with a vendetta; all edits have been vandalism". Your IP address is 207.200.116.6.

Thanks -- appreciate your attention. Oddly enough, when I get hit by a block, I can usually edit talk pages, even those on articles, but I can never edit articles. But, sometimes, I can't even edit my own talk page. User:JRM seems to think that AOL's pattern of constantly shifting IP numbers allows some fluidity. Being able to write on talk pages does allow me to find helpful admins like you.

Sorry about the repetitive entries on your page history. Wiki has been doing that quite often, lately. I promise I'm not trying to rack up my edit count. Peace. WBardwin 17:29, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi -- if you're on, I would appreciate you releasing the block of the day. Best wishes. WBardwin 06:09, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

Your user name or IP address has been blocked by FreplySpang.
The reason given is this: Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "MRS LOL". The reason given for MRS LOL's block is: "vandalism, was warned". Your IP address is 207.200.116.196.

Hi -- me again. If you're online, can you please release the block/August 21st? Thank you. WBardwin 23:46, 21 August 2005 (UTC) Your user name or IP address has been blocked by JRM. The reason given is this: Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Mickey670". The reason given for Mickey670's block is: "Repeated vandalism despite warnings". Your IP address is 207.200.116.130.
