IAbot and link rot
That bot doesn't only fix dead links; it tries to find archives for links even they are live. That is an aid against link rot. So it is useful. But of course I ain't gonna reverse you reversal. It's your page. Knock yourself out. ♦ Lingzhi2 (talk) 17:23, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Lingzhi2: I'm well aware of how it works. I'd already future-proofed it as much as possible two years ago. The three La Stampa pages can't be archived due to the use of Flash and the Delpher page also can't be. Not my page BTW, I would encourage any productive edits. I appreciate your good faith though. Tour de France articles
Hey! Great work on 1962 Tour de France! I will chip in to the FA review as soon as possible. If you could have a look at 1989 Tour de France as well, that would of course be appreciated. Say, are you planning on doing more Tour de France articles? Maybe we could try a joint effort to bring all editions to GA and FA? I am planning to do 1998 Tour de France next (just acquired Alastair Fotheringham's book on the race and Mark Rendell's biography of Pantani). Zwerg Nase (talk) 09:49, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Zwerg Nase: Sure I'll chip in, but will have to indicate that I've contributed to it, although not to the prose. I had highlighted '89 as one possible to possible get to at least GA, you bet me to it! Socheid done a fair bit of work on it back in 2011. I'm not sure know how much you added or rewrote, but give him some credit. Yea I'll chip in with '98. I actually bought all three of the English Pantani books hopefully do his page lol. I also really want to do '86 as it's often said to be the best Tour, along with 89. Make sure you add yourself to WP:TDFTF and do anything you want with it. BaldBoris 20:02, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
- I will obviously attribute you wherever necessary. The Pantani article is on my To Do-List as well, we can do that together if you like. I am currently finishing up on Bernard Hinault, so I already have some material for the 1986 Tour as well, so that is on my list as well. I see that you often use Delpher as a source? I didn't know the platform before but it seems really helpful. Where do you find the Italian language newspaper articles? I often search at the New York Times and Spiegel archives, but they do not always cover the races in great detail unfortunately... Zwerg Nase (talk) 08:40, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
- Ah, I see, the newspaper sources are on WP:TDFTF. Should've probably checked there earlier... Zwerg Nase (talk) 08:47, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

letour.fr
Hello BadBoris, happened to see the Phab ticket. I can help do this. How do you recommend to treat the domain. It would be easiest to consider all URLs in this domain as dead then attempt to archive them. Or is it a case of some dead and others not? If so, how do we tell which is which. -- GreenC 19:26, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
- @GreenC: Thanks for getting in touch abut this. The official Tour de France sites are a mess, they just haven't thought about redirection at all. Over the years, the English version of their site has constantly changed structure and has been either letour.com and letour.fr. I think last year they made all letour.com URLs redirect to letour.fr/fr, which is in French...?! They used to archive their sites like letour.fr/le-tour/2017/, but they stopped that as well, see: letour.fr/le-tour/2017/us/stage-18.html. So now, for instance the 2018 rankings page (letour.fr/en/rankings) will be overwritten in the summer and will show the 2019 race rankings, with the 2018 results only available on the the new history page (letour.fr/en/history), which doesn't use URLs, just awful. The old history is still up histo.letour.fr/HISTO/us/TDF/2011/index.html, but they changed the structure with no redirects so letour.fr/2011/TDF/HISTO/us/index.html (wayback link) now just redirects to letour.fr/fr. Pretty much everything we have from letour.com or letour.fr just redirects to letour.fr/fr.
- @GreenC: Today, Zyxw created
{{Tour de France results}}
, which will sort out a fair few or the deads. Zyxw is their anything you can add to help get this sorted? I see there's a similar issue with{{ProCyclingStats}}
changing their URL structure and then not sorting out redirections. Not just for Wikipedia, but everywhere their links are. It's very silly. BaldBoris 17:30, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hi BaldBoris, I was looking for a solution that is botable but this is beyond, too much a WP:CONTEXTBOT. Really a mess they created. It seems like one would need to identify the link and the target date for when that link contained the information wanted, and try to find an archive snapshot at Wayback that matches that date and contains the info. It's a hunt that requires human decisions. -- GreenC 17:45, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- @BaldBoris: I came across the problem with old LeTour.fr links not working while updating cyclist articles due to old ProCyclingStats links no longer working (ProCyclingStats used to accept three ID formats: numeric, alpha with hyphens, and alpha with underscores, but that last format no longer works and does not redirect to the correct page). I found a few hundred pages for cyclists where URLs in the format http://www.letour.fr/HISTO/TDF/riders/us/####.html did not work. Initially I was updating those to use https://histo.letour.fr/HISTO/us/TDF/coureur/####.html, then realized it would make more sense to create a template for these links. In the case of LeTour.fr cyclist results pages, I only found two so far where the old ID number did not work with the new URL. I've got the updates to external links in cyclist articles covered (less than 200 to go), but I have not checked for other LeTour.fr links which may be similarly affected. In regards to archiving for citations, any URL with www.letour.fr/HISTO/TDF/riders/ could be considered a dead link (might apply for all URLs with www.letour.fr/HISTO/, but I have not confirmed that). The most recent working link I have found at Internet Archive was dated 22 June 2009. -- Zyxw (talk) 20:25, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Tour de France
Greetings Sir Baldman, I just want to commend you on your efforts with the Tour pages. Disc Wheel (T + C) 19:31, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Disc Wheel: Thanks Wheelman, trying to catch up to you and your Giros... The work to do is never ending! BaldBoris 21:47, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- When IRL is not too busy for me I hope to come back and put some effort to keep the Giros lead over the Tour, which you and Zwerg have certainly made a dent in. In addition, I will likely shamelessly copy the general layout for the Tour de France task force to create the far superior Giro Task Force, just wanted to let you know. Disc Wheel (T + C) 02:03, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- IRL vs Wikilife... Good job on doing the Giro task force. I did feel a bit guilty when I made the Tour one. Funny seeing it all in pink. Poor Vuelta though. Maybe a Grand Tour TF in the future. BaldBoris 22:47, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- I do feel bad about the Vuelta, but I'll get to doing some of its articles down the line and add the statistics from El Mundo, but I'll leave the big time expanding of the article to someone else. Question though, is there a program to add generally the Giro info to related talk page boxes rather than do it manually? Disc Wheel (T + C) 02:01, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
- I manually added everything apart from the cyclists, which were done by a bot. BaldBoris 14:06, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

- Unrelated note. I've been digging around the 1971 Giro d'Italia and encountered some controversy regarding the Mars-Flandria team and their participation in the Tour and potential participation in the Giro, which you may find interesting for expanding the 1971 Tour article. There are some sources under the teams section on the page if you're interested, I'll be digging around in the coming days and may uncover more, but wanted to let you know. Cheers Disc Wheel (T + C) 07:12, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for that man. There's always some fishiness when you get digging. Pettersson has got to be the most famous Swedish cyclist of all right? Too many skiers. BaldBoris 22:47, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
- Haha they have other priorities for sure. I would think so, believe he's the only one to win a GT. Not sure about Sweden's results in the classics though. Disc Wheel (T + C) 00:54, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

1998 Tour
Will you add the Les Woodland book to the bibliography? So far, the sfn leads nowhere and I cannot quite make out which of his books you have used. I am guessing the "Yellow Jersey Companion"? Zwerg Nase (talk) 19:40, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

As for the workload, I am very happy with the contributions you do to the article(s) and I would be absolutely delighted if you went through the stuff I wrote and go over it again since I don't think the prose is quite what it should be at this point. Team points classifications
I see that you have added results of the team points classification to Tour articles, based on tourdefrancestatistieken.nl. However, this page says: "Hieronder staan zelf uitgerekende standen van het ploegenklassement. [...] De punten die worden weergegeven zijn de punten voor het ploegenpuntenklassement, [...]. Maar dit ploegenpuntenklassement is tot nu toe nog totaal ongecontroleerd." My translation: "Below are self-calculated rankings for the team classification. [...] The points that are shown are the points for the team points classification, [...]. But this team points classification has not been checked at all." So these are not the official results, but self-calculated results. The times (for the regular team classification) have been checked; if they are in green, he found a source that gives the same result as the calculation, if they are red, it is different. He did not do the comparison for the team points classification. So it's better to not use this source for the team points classification. --EdgeNavidad (Talk · Contribs) 19:57, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

2019 Tour
Hey! I saw you did a lot of work on the 2019 article, thank you first of all for that! I have been searching for a source that stages how many riders won the race before Bernal without winning a stage. I know it's rather trivial, but if I find a source, I'd like to include this information. However, I cannot really find one, maybe you can? Also, once I am done with the Bernard Hinault FA nomination (if you find the time, feel free to chip in!), I can hopefully continue to work on the 1998 article. Cheers! Zwerg Nase (talk) 18:02, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I had help from an IP and pinched some of the text from the stage articles. I didn't really think of that, interesting. Yellow jersey statistics#Yellow jersey winners without winning any stage has the list, but only has a ref for up to 2000. I'll take a look at Hinault in the next few days. I keep forgetting about 1998, just the doping left right? I'm hearing people say that this year's Tour could take 1989's title of the best ever? Maybe, if it wasn't messed up at the end. What's next for you after 1998? BaldBoris 20:30, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Still, it's good to see that somebody is stepping in. 1998 is just the Doping section left, that is correct. Though it is the one that gives me the most headaches, but I'll find a way to do it properly, I hope. After 1998, I want to do Indurain and Anquetil as biography articles, and 1985 and 1986 (another contender for best ever) as Tour articles. I didn't watch back in 1989, so I cannot quite compare it with this year, only the Phil Liggett summaries on YouTube. But I did have as much fun if not more with this Tour than even 2011. Too bad we will never know what might have happened up that final climb on stage 19, maybe they could've caught Bernal. As a German, I am naturally thrilled about Buchmann's performance, it's been a long time coming. And from what I can gather from the rider who calls himself "The Secret Pro" (have you ever read his column?), I think Buchmann might even actually be clean, which gives me hope that most of them are. Zwerg Nase (talk) 21:55, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- As I said before I'll most definitely help with Anquetil, possible Indurain also as the 1991 Tour is next on the hit list and I may get more interested in him. I've been accumulating magazines on the Tour, including 1985, so could scan them and send them to you if you'd like? Haven't used my scanner for a while though. "The best ever" is really all about ones opinion in the end, like the 2005 Champions League Final, it can decide for itself. Buchmann is looking good, although he went a bit unnoticed on the TV coverage over here, but I suppose that's his style. No, just checked now, so he writes undercover for CyclingTips? It must be pretty hard to get away with doping these right now... I believe we're seeing true cyclists now for probably the first time ever. BaldBoris 22:38, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- Scans would obviously be awesome! As for doping, I do think it is better than ever, though when you read "The Secret Pro", he does have reservations towards a couple of teams, Astana in particular. Which doesn't surprise me, I have always considered Vinokourov to be the most immoral man in the peloton... and Astana's track record is not good. Zwerg Nase (talk) 09:19, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
Hey! I have nominated for GA. I tried to find even more info for the doping section, but couldn't find any. If you have any additional suggestions, feel free to edit away :) I am hoping that whatever might be unclear now comes up during the review. Thank you already for all your work on the article! Zwerg Nase (talk) 17:48, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Zwerg Nase: Looks good to me! I'll let you led the reveiw, but I'll follow along and chip if need be. BaldBoris 17:56, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
- That would be very much appreciated! :) Zwerg Nase (talk) 18:05, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, and by the way, I am turning towards 1990 Tour de France and Jacques Anquetil next. Do you have a next bigger project? Zwerg Nase (talk) 18:06, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
- After I've finished '71, I'm looking at '86 to '91 (minus '89 of course) as I've collected plenty of sources now. So I'll be help with '90. Got all the Anquetil books too. Slowly but surely, aye. BaldBoris 23:23, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
- I have started reading the '71 article, which is excellent work as usual. I would have some small pointers. Should I make the edits myself or post them here? Zwerg Nase (talk) 12:13, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Zwerg Nase: Go for it. It's a work in progress so there's probably much to be fixed. Leave the overview as I'm rewriting it. BaldBoris 18:32, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Zwerg Nase: Thanks for the tidying. I just came across an interesting Tour fact about from your homeland whilst sorting East/West participation. '90 was only only Tour that had East Germans between the obvious 1949–1991. It looks like they went all in for Olympics on the track then. Correct me if I'm wrong please. BaldBoris 02:26, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
- It was indeed, Samuel Abt covers that quite thoroughly in his book on the 1990 Tour. The riders from the Eastern bloc, especially the East Germans, came into the pro peloton with high expectations. Uwe Ampler was involved in quite a nasty contract controversy, when PDM snapped him away from Buckler even though they had an earlier agreement. He got a huge amount of money. Ekimov from the Soviet Union even got one of the highest paying contracts in the entire field (never quite lived up to the hype though, even with his Olympic medals later on...).
