ENC Wiknic 2024
[edit]I am organizing the Wiknic at ECU this year. The school has told me to expect about 100 people to stop by with questions. Given you have experience editing Wikipedia, do you have any interest in helping answer questions during this event? You can reply here, find me at the event, or use the clues in my Wikipedia profile to find my email address relatively easily. I know people tend to remain anonymous here, so reply however you like. Autopatrolled granted
[edit]Hi Di (they-them), I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Elli (talk | contribs) 19:52, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Di (they-them),
Why on earth did you nominate this article for a deletion discussion when you are arguing to Keep it? AFDs are to consider deletion for an article, you shouldn't nominate an article to settle an editing dispute or to find new sources or for any content-related reasons. It's a waste of editor time and right now this AFD looks like a trainwreck that I know that I don't want to sort through.
You should also not nominate an article for a deletion discussion on behalf of another editor unless the editor is an IP account that can't do this themself. I don't know what you were trying to accomplish through this nomination but in the future please only nominate articles that you are arguing should be deleted. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 05:05, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- I see now that you nominated this article based on discussion at Talk:Frutiger Aero. I still think it would have been better if the editor seeking deletion had asked for help rather than you stepping in and nominating it for them when you actually want the article Kept. It makes the AFD discussion confusing for any editors stumbling into it who want to participate. Liz Read! Talk! 05:29, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Liz:, I wasn't the one that nominated the page. Another user put the AFD tag on the page but didn't properly follow !through with creating the discussion, so I created the discussion on their behalf. Sorry for the confusion! Di (they-them) (talk) 17:28, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Bullet hit squib example screenshots from movies
[edit]Hello, I saw that some example images are removed from the page. i thought they were good examples at illustrating different squib payloads (e.g. down feathers, fake blood), and one had 10+ squibs on which was a good demo of multiple squibs. I get the reasoning that it should be essential only, so I would suggest we keep them up until I can create my own (or someone else) similar images? That might take some time as I need to find some time for it. What do you think? Cheers. Adenosine Triphosphate (talk) 10:59, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Adenosine Triphosphate: I think that examples should only be added when there are non-copyrighted ones available. We shouldn't just use film screenshots unnecessarily. If you want to make some, that's fine, but until they exist the page shouldn't use any from copyrighted films. Di (they-them) (talk) 14:26, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Okay no worries. Would they have fallen under fair use? Adenosine Triphosphate (talk) 14:51, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, but Wikipedia is only supposed to use fair use when it's necessary. Di (they-them) (talk) 15:57, 2 September 2024 (UTC)

Howdy! Based on your work on Frutiger Aero I thought you might be interested in Health Goth. After creating a stub for it, I saw that there was a previously existing article that was deleted years ago for supposed notability concerns. I've added content from that article. I will likely add some more but it needs a bit of editing and link fixing- some of the cites are now dead links. There also appears to be some more recent write-ups that will be useful for expansion. I'm going to try to get it all done in the next 24 - 48 hours so it can be nominated for DYK, specifically to run on Halloween. I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment so even the lightest help would be wonderful. All the best, Thriley (talk) 20:30, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

DCWC closing update
[edit]The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points, Thebiguglyalien (submissions) comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions; BeanieFan11 (submissions) flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months, Generalissima (submissions) finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home the Gold Belt Buckle. Congratulations to our winners!
In addition to his spot in the top three, BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)! Magentic Manifestations (submissions), after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews, Simongraham (submissions) wins for most article reviews.
The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...
We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

Wolf
[edit]Hello. You claimed that my removal of the information is "unexplained" but I clearly wrote not helpful, this article is big enough. Also, the origin of the dog is mentioned in the "evolution" section. LittleJerry (talk) 23:53, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
DYK for Slime (monster)
[edit]On 31 October 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Slime (monster), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that slime monsters (example pictured) have been described as both "a tool for questioning the idea of human exceptionalism" and "loyal punching bags"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Slime (fantasy creature). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Slime (monster)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Barnstar for that amazing DYK hook on Halloween. Very good, and honestly an example for all future DYK hooks! Bluethricecreamman (talk) 00:47, 31 October 2024 (UTC) |

Apologies for the POV tag I added to the Thulasendrapuram article. I was doing my regular random article checks, and my initial thoughts after a quick skim read were "this is an article about an Indian village, so why is there a disproportionate amount dedicated to Kamala Harris?" My natural reaction to seeing content with political ties is to analyse it from a politics perspective, which is why I originally added the NPOV tag. After seeing your revert and giving the article another read, I realised the tag wasn't actually necessary.
It simply seemed biased to me by merit of politics, but being the hometown of a presidential candidate is as good a reason as any to be considered notable/significant, and you did a good job of keeping actual politics out of the article itself. Sirocco745 (talk) 03:11, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Sirocco745: All good, thanks for the message! :) Di (they-them) (talk) 03:12, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- No problem! I'm just a bit wiki-paranoid right now because there's only a week until the US elections, which means there's a good chance the majority of my anti-vandalism work will be 🌟political attacks🌟 until this all blows over. Heck, I'm an Australian, why am I the one worried about the US election? XD Sirocco745 (talk) 03:19, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- I know all about it, lol. Di (they-them) (talk) 03:22, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
