Happy New Year Epicgenius!

Happy New Year!
Hello Epicgenius:
Thanks for all of your contributions to improve the encyclopedia for Wikipedia's readers, and have a happy and enjoyable New Year! Cheers, JustBerry (talk) 00:27, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Send New Year cheer by adding {{subst:Epicgenius}} to user talk pages with a friendly message.

Happy New Year Epicgenius!

I second the above message. Thanks so much for a great and productive year of editing. Many articles were improved upon, and with your help more articles can be improved upon. Also, how do you change your user page like that. Do you transclude it from somewhere else? That is a trick that I would like to know. Also, I have saved many pages related to the SAS on the web archive so that we can see these pages for many years.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 00:42, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

@Kew Gardens 613: Happy New Year to you too, and your contributions are much appreciated. We helped each other make probably 15 GA's this year. Anyway, I transclude my user page like this:{{User:USERNAME/''subpage''}}. There are a bunch of hidden comments in there, but it doesn't affect the transclusion since the hidden comments are ignored when the page is actually transcluded. Also, the way MTA renames its documents every so often, that is a good idea, archiving the webpages. epicgenius (talk) 00:47, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Track Map Book Changes

I didn't want to tell you this until now. There are some changes in track layout according to the New York City Subways Track Map Book by Peter Dougherty. The track layout on the IRT Dyre Avenue Line has changed as well as the alignment of the dump track east of 36th Street. I didn't tell you yet as I wasn't sure if you had the book. The changes are now reflected here:https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2541531/472stations-850miles.pdf.

I helped Dougherty out with the book; I corrected typos, I suggested some notes on bellmouths, and proofread the book in advance. He listed my name as one of the people who helped make the book possible. Have a good evening.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 01:59, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

@Kew Gardens 613: Thanks for the info. And nice work, helping out on the new track book. What do you mean by "the dump track east of 36th Street"? Are you talking about Brooklyn or Queens? I don't have the book, and probably won't get the track book until I graduate college in four-and-a-half years or I get spare time to read the book, whichever happens first. Which means I'll have the 2021 track book in time for ESA's opening...
Anyway, did you ride the SAS today? I heard it had signal delays within 20 minutes of opening. Same old MTA... epicgenius (talk) 02:22, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

The track is east of the station in Brooklyn. I did ride the SAS. I took the first train from Coney Island. We thought it was the first train, but the MTA snuck one in from 57th. I enjoyed it. I spent four hours on the line!--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 14:07, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

That's pretty cool, touring the SAS for four hours. Anyway, I'll go fix these track errors. epicgenius (talk) 14:48, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

R32 J train approaching Cypress Hills.jpg

Hey, Epicgenius. I'm a bit new to Wikipedia, so I was wondering about the photo I uploaded (R32 J train approaching Cypress Hills.jpg). I'm not really sure what it means now that you've moved it to commons, so what does that mean for the photo, what IS commons, and do I still get credit for taking that picture? Thanks for clearing up! :) (GeneralPunger (talk) 12:51, 12 January 2017 (UTC))

@GeneralPunger: Welcome to Wikipedia, and I hope you enjoy editing here. Moving the file to Commons just means that it can be used on all Wikimedia sister projects (e.g. other language Wikipedias, Wikivoyage, Wikibooks, etc.) You are still credited for the image. I copied everything from the Wikipedia image page to the Commons image page. The image will be hosted on Commons, but the English Wikipedia file page will still show all the image details. Regards, epicgenius (talk) 13:11, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
@Epicgenius: Ok, got it! Thanks for replying so quickly! (GeneralPunger (talk) 21:52, 12 January 2017 (UTC))

Per WP:INTDABLINK, please never do this, as it disrupts disambiguation work. I think we may have discussed this already in the interim, but I just came across this today. Cheers! bd2412 T 23:39, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, I did not know that. epicgenius (talk) 23:40, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks. It's just a friendly reminder to help keep things moving along at WP:DYKNOM. North America1000 21:48, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi, you made a mistake on a track map.

You made a mistake on the Grand Central (IRT 42nd Street Shuttle) track map. There is a switch coming from Track 1 to Track 3 going eastward, not from Track 3 to Track 1. This should be fixed. By the way, could you combine the two shuttle track maps into one for the 42nd Street Shuttle page? Thanks. I want to continue improving that article. I hope that you are doing well.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 14:10, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

@Kew Gardens 613: I am doing well. I finally got to see the 72nd Street and 86th Street stations on the Second Avenue Subway, on two separate days. I still haven't visited 96th Street yet. How are you?
Anyway,  Done fixing the typo. The combined shuttle map is in progress. epicgenius (talk) 16:59, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
I am good. Thank you. I went onto the SAS on opening day. Why did you elect to go on separate days? Thanks for making the combined map.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 17:12, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
@Kew Gardens 613: I can only go to the SAS after school, and I only have an hour after school before I go home and do work. Anyway, you're welcome for the map, and I should have the map shortly. epicgenius (talk) 00:36, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
OK. Thanks again. I hope that you have enjoyed going there.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 00:54, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Woodhaven Boulevard (IND Queens Boulevard Line)

On 24 January 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Woodhaven Boulevard (IND Queens Boulevard Line), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the walls of the Woodhaven Boulevard subway station in New York City still prominently display the name of a plaza that was demolished in the 1950s? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Woodhaven Boulevard (IND Queens Boulevard Line). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Woodhaven Boulevard (IND Queens Boulevard Line)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Schwede66 00:01, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

I saw an IP Editor added some information about the former V and 9 services to those articles. User:Kew Gardens 613 removed them, then another IP restored them. I removed them before User:Arjayay re-added them. Should they stay or be removed? If we keep them, we would have to put all other former services to other line articles (e.g. Q and K on Sixth Avenue, K on Eighth Avenue, B and D to Broadway, etc.), right? What do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.84.106.200 (talk) 22:10, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

I think they should only be mentioned in the "history" sections of the lines, not the actual "extent and service" sections, unless we include historic extents and services for all lines in the "extent and service" sections of each article. epicgenius (talk) 22:13, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
I agree, can you remove the additions to the "extent and service" sections in those articles? I'd do it myself if User:Arjayay didn't give me a warning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.84.106.200 (talk) 22:20, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
That warning doesn't prevent you from re-adding them yourself, although you should discuss the matter with Arjayay. Also, please use edit summaries, so your edits may not be as easily reverted. I will add it back anyway. epicgenius (talk) 22:22, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
