I've published the work I've been able to do so far and there are a lot of improvements which can be made in future though for whenever you decide to pick up the project. Afkatk (talk) 08:49, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Sweeps update

[edit]

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am contacting you because you have contributed or expressed interest in the GA sweeps process. Last month, only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process with 163 articles reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

All exempt articles that have reached FA status have now been moved to a separate section at the end of the running total page. I went through all of the members' running totals and updated the results to reflect the move. As a result your reviewed article total may have decreased a bit. After removing duplicate articles and these FAs, the running total leaves us at ~1,400 out of 2,808 articles reviewed.

If you currently have any articles on hold or at GAR, please consider concluding those reviews and updating your results. I'm hoping that this new list and increased efforts can help us to increase the number of reviews. We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you know of anybody that can assist please direct them to the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, will get an award when they reach that mark. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! GA Sweeps June update

[edit]

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 396 articles were swept in May! That more than doubles our most successful month of 163 swept articles in September 2007 (and the 2 articles swept in April)! I plan to be sending out updates at the beginning of each month detailing any changes, updates, or other news until Sweeps are completed. So if you get sick of me, keep reviewing articles so we can be done (and then maybe you'll just occasionally bump into me). We are currently over 60% done with Sweeps, with just over a 1,000 articles left to review. With over 40 members, that averages out to about 24 articles per person. If each member reviews an article a day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. I know that may be asking for a lot, but it would allow us to complete Sweeps and allow you to spend more time writing GAs, reviewing GANs, or focusing on other GARs (or whatever else it is you do to improve Wikipedia) as well as finish ahead of the two-year mark coming up in August. I recognize that this can be a difficult process at times and appreciate your tenacity in spending time in ensuring the quality of the older GAs. Feel free to recruit other editors who have reviewed GANs in the past and might be interested in the process. The more editors, the less the workload, and hopefully the faster this will be completed. If you have any questions about reviews or the process let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 18:02, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, how did the ref for the Pro Wrestling Illustrated: 2008 Wrestling Almanac & Book of Facts get into the IWGP Heavyweight Championship? If you have the book, could you tell me if it says anything about the JAPW Heavyweight Championship, the MCW Heavyweight Championship, the OVW Heavyweight Championship, or the AWA World Heavyweight Championship?--WillC 04:45, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, do you know of anyone on here with the 98 version? Well anyone with some title history books? Indy titles and some old ones as well have alot of problems when it comes to references and I don't plan to stop trying to get some more FLs.--WillC 04:58, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Sweeps July update

[edit]

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 290 articles were swept in June! Last month was our second most successful month in reviewing articles (after May). We are currently over 70% done with Sweeps, with just under 800 articles left to review. With nearly 50 members, that averages out to about 15 articles per person. If each member reviews an article every other day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. This may sound difficult, but if everyone completes their reviews, Sweeps would be completed in less than two years when we first started (with only four members!). With the conclusion of Sweeps, each editor could spend more time writing GAs, reviewing at the backlogged GAN, or focusing on other GARs. Again, I want to thank you for using your time to ensure the quality of the older GAs. Feel free to recruit other editors who have reviewed GANs in the past and might be interested in the process. The more editors, the less the workload, and hopefully the faster this will be completed. If you have any questions about reviews or the process let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. 1. NWA Women's World Tag Team Championship (if you could also clarify how many times Penny Banner held the title, it would really help)
  • I can't find this one, it's not listed with the main NWA titles, probably listed as a regional title and then I'd need to know the region to have a chance, I can't flip through 300 pages and just find it. wrestling-titles even refers to the Title histories book but I'd need to know the region.

Question

[edit]

Hey GCF, I have a question for you, since you are able to find references better than I am for things like this. I wanted to expand some championship lists during the World Class Championship Wrestling and United States Wrestling Association era, however, I cannot find a source that states when/how WCCW (or WCWA as it was known briefly) became USWA. Like I wanted to expand the USWA World Tag Team Championship article but the creation of this title came after the USWA renamed the WCWA World Tag Team Championship to the USWA Tag Team Titles, and the main USWA article says that the creation of the company came as a result of a merger between the WCCW and some other promotion and so the WCCW gave USWA some of its titles, I assume. But I'm having trouble verifying this. I was wondering if you knew of any sources for that, if not, thanks anyways :) Also, good work on the HoF lists :)--Truco 503 21:24, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE on AFD hold

[edit]

Fine with me. I have my focus on a few other things, so don't worry. Take your time. As long as someone shows interest in improving an article I will not AFD unless I see it as a lost cause. I see them as having a chance, a small one at that though. So have a nice trip. They'll be here when you get back.--WillC 06:47, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to get these deleted last week, because they were hopeless cases and since the main article was speedied, I knew these would probably be soon as well, so the notification would have been useless.--WillC 05:56, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A promotion isn't established by who is in it. I looked for sources and found nothing more than Japanese sites and forums. It was a stub that had two championship articles. It had one line of text and a box with no important information. I speedied it under C7. An admin deleted it. Plus it was deleted before the discussion on telling people they were nominating anything.--WillC 06:02, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I check goggle search. It may not have needed to be deleted, it may have been notable, but I was not aware of that. I'm looking through articles that seem to not be notable. I'm trying to do some clean up. Alot of editors I've noticed have been hired to write articles or have created articles that are not notable. Just trying to do my part. If anyone is willing to improve the articles I'm all for that. Not trying to cause trouble, just trying to make sure everything is notable.--WillC 06:13, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
At the time I was 100% sure it was not notable. You don't have to "save" the articles. If they are truly notable they will survive the AFD or be recreated again one day. Don't blame me, think good faith. I'm just trying to sort through the articles that only a handful of editors even know exist it seems.--WillC 06:39, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I told you I would notify the project of any future deletion discussions beforehand and I have, but this time I thought it would be no use. If the promotion could be speedied then the championships shouldn't be notable either. Simple mistake. I agree with you mostly. But at times some articles should be deleted. I'm also expanding some of the articles. Just look at my most recent contributions.--WillC 07:20, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think I fixed the wording issues and inline citations but I am not sure what my word count is. Could you take a look and see if I made it yet. --Kumioko (talk) 00:21, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mind if I work on the IWGP Tag Team Championship? I would like to take it to FLC after a very big expansion in a subpage. I ask because you took it to FLC once before so I thought to check with you before I get too far into expansion.--WillC 02:50, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can I get an answer buddy? :)--WillC 06:03, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Also I was not intending on criticizing you. I was just trying to give some advice on not trying to contradict yourself. Sorry if it came off that way. I've been feeling withdrawal symptoms all day since I forgot to take my anxiety meds for the pasted two days. I guess I hit the frustration phase. Quick note: Seeing as you nominated List of WCW World Heavyweight Champions for FLC in 2007, I thought to tell you I was thinking of FLRing it, but if you don't have time to work on it, I guess I'll hold off on it or if I feel up to it I may just expand it myself. Because God knows if it was removed I would probably just expand it myself and take it back to FLC in a month.--WillC 06:30, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Sweeps August update

[edit]

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 215 articles were swept in July! We are currently nearly 80% done with Sweeps, with under 600 articles left to review. With 50 members, that averages out to about 12 articles per person. Once the remaining articles drop to 100, I'll help in reviewing the last articles (I'm currently taking a break). If each member reviews an article every other day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 19:26, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think so far?--WillC 03:21, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, how did you find the names for the events in the IWGP Heavyweight Championship article? I haven't found a source any but a few.--WillC 23:58, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I noticed it was down. I was going to try to prove it as reliable again, but once I saw the deadlinks I said forget it. But I did find a few refs for the tag title and a history ref for the heavyweight. Well thanks. The title is currently being sourced fully. Within the next hour I am placing it in the article and then possibly nominating it for FLC.--WillC 05:44, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
While I was sourcing the tag title, I had the NJPW history refs translated, and I noticed they list the number of defenses per champion. Considering they can now be sourced, you might as well add them to the IWGP Heavyweight Championship since you are the main contributor. Sourcing complications and having to add the defenses is what has kept me from adding my updated version.--WillC 03:54, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just finished revamping the IWGP Tag Team Championship. The finished version is up and running. Check it out.--WillC 16:42, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian titles

[edit]

I've checked the ESA North American title listing and it's even less detailed than what's on wresting-titles, I'd go with what the website states. And yes there is a record of the Global Tag titles, they're called the "International Wrestling Global Tag Team Title", they're on page 362 of the book in a chapter called "Atlantic Canada", Rudy Kay did indeed hold the title.  MPJ-DK  (No Drama) Talk  06:44, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Northeast Philadelphia GAR

[edit]

I have other real life stresses this coming week, so I will be limited in what I can do on Wikipedia. I am hoping that others will fill in, and have left some messages to that effect. It would be very helpful if you would say what needs citations or other information to make GAR. I did several citations for political figures, but more could be added. Perhaps there are other sections that need attention. --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:47, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not wanting to drag this out at GAN...

[edit]

Actually, I went to Malleus to double check that I had NOT missed something obvious. And to whine a bit, as I've had a really crappy day both on wiki and off. I've already apologized to Nosleep for being bitchy, which hopefully he has taken. My comment on Malleus' page was NOT an attempt to get him or someone else to review the article, it was (mostly) just venting of frustration over a small straw on top of a really long morning from hell. That's all. I'm sorry if someone saw this as an attempt to chase away reviewers, it was, as I said, something of a "argh, another thing is going wrong" type moment. My apologies to others if they were offended.Ealdgyth - Talk 22:20, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know where I can find a ref for a weight limit to the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship? I can't seem to find one.--WillC 09:57, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if you have seen this yet, but the reason I ask is I plan to take them both to FL. They are the only current IWGP Titles left that are not FL. Plus the Junior Tag is apart of a TNA Title topic I'm working on. I've checked a few places, but I haven't found anything. For something that should be simple, it is hard to find.--WillC 05:47, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks anyway. I've been working on the tag in a subpage. Figured a way out that may work without having the exact weight limit.--WillC 15:00, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reviewing concerns

[edit]

Please see. There are many reviews at GAN that do not perform a thorough sourcing check. Being one of the main requirements, verifying the sourcing is important. Please take note of what was brought up and please correct this in the future in order to help prevent such problems from carrying forward. Ottava Rima (talk) 22:52, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, in mixing up all of the names (too many Simpson articles starting with "Bart"), I went through and clicked the wrong GA page and put the notice here instead of the correct reviewer. Blah. The one review was really tiny (as you can probably see for yourself). It is bad when we have short reviews like that as they don't show thoroughness. Anyway, I'll be posting it at the right person's page now (it took me three tries to post it on the right article, haha). Ottava Rima (talk) 13:52, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Date format in footnotes in Well Dunn

[edit]

Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(dates_and_numbers)#Dates says YYYY-MM-DD format is for use only in tables and long lists. -- Alarics (talk) 08:48, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The link that you sent me states that YYYY-MM-DD should not be used in prose, but it did not say anything about in footnotes. Currently, there is no policy or guideline opposed to this format in footnotes. There is a never-ending discussion, of course, but I don't see it being at all valid if most of Wikipedia (the other 10,619,575 accounts) have not been informed of a discussion that affects all of Wikipedia's articles. GaryColemanFan (talk) 15:58, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It says "However, they may be useful in long lists and tables for conciseness". That was never meant to include footnotes, where such an extreme degree of conciseness is never needed. The reason it has become a habit for some people to use YYYY-MM-DD in footnotes is because they see it in other footnotes, and that in the first place was only an accidental by-product of the date delinking/autoformatting saga - it was not meant to appear as YYYY-MM-DD to the reader, on the assumption (incorrect, as everyone now realises) that most readers would have date preferences set.
YYYY-MM-DD is ambiguous to many readers. It was designed for computers to read, not people. Even many of those of us who know what it means still have to stop and think about it, so it is a barrier to understanding. It saves only 7 characters at maximum over writing the date out properly. It looks geeky and is inappropriate for an encyclopaedia which is supposed to be written in English. -- Alarics (talk) 16:11, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I posted this on the talk page, but I wanted to make sure you saw it. This year's inductees are: Everett Marshall, The Midnight Express, Bill Miller, Konnan, Roy Shire and Masa Saito. I was looking through the newsletter (I have a download link for those who are interested. I'm hesitant to post it here, but I can e-mail it upon request) and the inductees are split into categories: "World Wide", "United States & Canada", "Japan", "Mexico", "Other countries", "promoters", "managers", "bookers", "women", "trainers", "announcers". In the FLC for this page, I suggested that birth countries be included, but adding the categories as listed in the newsletter would be great. -- Scorpion0422 14:31, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

image removal?

[edit]

You removed an image from Sarah Stock claiming that a fair use image could not be used in an article. That is incorrect, WP:FU defines criterea that the image must meet to be used in the article. The image meets all criterea except maybe number two. It is my belief that waiting for a free image that may or may not ever come is not in the best intrest of the encyclopedia. This picture will benifit the encyclopedia, the article, and does not infringe the rights of TNA Wrestling. Sephiroth storm (talk) 05:33, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Smackdown vs. Raw

[edit]

Hey, thanks for the comment. Wikipedia doesn't have a deadline, but I think most people would rather just be done with the bleepin' GA Sweeps already. Fact is most of the other superbusy GA Sweeps reviewers have dropped to lower levels of activity in the task force or have stopped reviewing for the moment altogether; that leaves >300 articles to be swept by just a handful of people. If we ever want to be done in a reasonable timeframe (I'm aiming for the New Year as my high mark, but would reluctantly settle with 30 months, if you can call that "reasonable"), we've got to get these done. Given my limited time I simply can't wait around for everything to be addressed in a reassessment for every article I review. If there are small or relatively minor issues, I put it on hold; if I consider the underlying issues too severe to be reasonably fixed in a weeklong period—in the case we're discussing, I'm essentially suggesting an entire rewrite for comprehensiveness and accessibility issues—I simply delist. I try and fix some minor issues myself if I can, but honestly it's more time-efficient to let people deal with the issues on their own time (I've provided a general overview, and am always open to providing more specific suggestions if someone requests them) and then renominate at WP:GAN; I would hope the fact that the project temporarily loses a plus symbol in their assessments doesn't completely remove any impetus to improve the article. Hope I'm clear, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 01:51, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're getting hung-up on a fairly trivial identifier. I'm not deleting my review, because it's entirely true—the article is poorly written and doesn't merit GA. The wrestling project can improve it from there; prove me wrong. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 02:59, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
