A tag has been placed on Pictures I've Uploaded, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

no need for article on anyone's uploaded pictures

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Vgranucci 00:31, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi FireFly5. There's nothing wrong with having the list, but the one I tagged appears to have been created as an article instead of as a subpage to your user page. I have no problem with it as your own subpage. Vgranucci 00:43, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My appologies. I've rechecked and it does appear that that was created as a user subpage. I've removed the speedy delete tag. Vgranucci 00:49, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, L'Aquatique, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

Yes please!

[edit]

I'd love to be adopted by you. Thank you for the gracious offer and I look forward to getting to know you. My first question: are you my adopted brother, or sister?

Speak to you very soon xxx

Wikimedia Commons

[edit]
Thank you for uploading images/media such as Image:Lysmata amboinensis.png to Wikipedia! There is however another Wikimedia foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading media there instead. That way, all the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!

Behind-the-back Name-calling

[edit]
I have noticed what seems to be the beginnings of an edit war broiling at Chrysler Building. I would like to remind you that, although in this case you are correct, arguing with vandals and idiots is often futile. If David [sic] continues to revert your edits, I would recommend seeking advice from an administrator or a mediator. Good luck and if you need assistance don't hesitate to drop a line. -- L'Aquatique talktome 06:25, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm a "vandal" and an "idiot", eh? So much for your assumption of good faith.
I don't know what the "anonymous coward", to use a Slashdotism, at 121.6.67.23 may or may not have told you, but there's no "edit war" broiling. He/She tagged it, I've made one reversion. I haven't looked at it yet, but I infer he/she put the tag back in.
If there has been an official Wikipedia re-definition of "X in popular culture" to a meaning synonymous with "Trivia section", please show me a link to it. Until then, I can only go by the English language as I understand it, and in normal English as I understand it, the two may or may not be overlapping sets, but are not synonymous.
And next time, before you start name-calling someone with whom you've never interacted, try interacting with them first. You might be surprised to learn that they're not what someone so new to Wikipedia that they don't even have an account name says about them in their newbie ignorance.
I will wait 48 hours to see if you send me any such link as I asked for above before I do any re-reverting. -- Davidkevin 10:41, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, David.
I hope you will accept my sincerest apologies over my mistake. When I looked at the edit summary I thought it said "Trivia", in which case the template would have been appropriate. Whether or not it still is, I am unsure because I haven't read the rest of the article. I was on vandal patrol and simply looking for blatant vandalism- and removing a template without an edit summary usually fits under that category.
I fear I may be becoming jaded by the sheer amounts of vandalism I see. I do only do it every once in a while but I have found that it does tend to diminish your ability to assume good faith. When you see as many real vandals as I do out on patrol you tend to start wondering how it could be possible that a real person out there could be treating something millions of people spent time on with such malice. It does get to your head.
I believe I will stay off vandal patrol for a while until I can work this out with myself and I do want to thank you again for calling me on it.
I hope you can forgive me, I would hate to think that we could not work past this like reasonable people and maybe end up wikiaquaintances. : )
L'Aquatique talktome 17:35, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're certainly forgiven, and I in turn apologize for the delay with this reply, pleading illness.
I should have included a reason for my revert, but I was tired and lax and did not, so I have my own part of the responsibility for this mix-up. I shall endeavor to do better.
Best wishes, Davidkevin 21:58, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I hope you are feeling much better, real soon! *grin* --(L'Aquatique: Bringing chaos & general mayhem to the Wiki for One Year!) 23:54, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway, I thank you for your good wishes, and offer you the same. -- Davidkevin (talk) 17:20, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - were you aware that your signature might be missing a little something? When you left a message at Wikipedia talk:Adopt-a-User recently, the missing font face tag meant that you accidentally imposed your choice of font on the rest of the subsequent talk page discussions! I don't know whether this was a one-off, or a bug that you've now fixed, but I thought I'd mention it whilst I was passing. Regards, BencherliteTalk 00:20, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving

[edit]

You said on User talk:Hopiakuta "There is a piece of software that automatically begins archiving your page when it reaches a certain size." - I'm not aware of any archive bot that can be set to archive based on the size of the source talk page, rather than the age of threads - which bot is this? —Random832 03:52, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, that was a mistake. I was looking at Mishabot or whatever it's called, and I thought that it said that it would archive your talk page to a certain byte amount. Upon re-reading it, I realized it meant it would fill each archive to a certain byte amount. I don't know a thing about bot programming, but it doesn't seem like it would be complicated to make one that archives pages to a certain byte amount, would it? l'aqùatique talk 06:57, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK - I was just wondering if there was some other bot I didn't know about. —Random832 14:42, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:University of Alaska Southeast Logo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:University of Alaska Southeast Logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
