Thai script
Do you know that /ɑ/ is wrong, or did you just assume it? I don't know the phonology of Thai, so I can't say for sure, but /ɑ/ and /a/ are quite different, and shouldn't be substituted for each other. VIWS talk 08:37, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know, although being a native speaker of Central (Bangkok) Thai I do personally think that /a/ does sound more accurate (though that doesn't matter). Skimming through the article history it appeared that some time ago /ɑ/ was used, then someone changed some instances to /a/, although the resulting different representations are duplicate forms of the same base vowel sound. Of this I can cite my primary school textbook if necessary, though I wish we had proper references for the entire pronunciation table and the article as well. It's quite a mess as it is. --Paul_012 (talk) 08:55, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- You obviously know a LOT more Thai than I do, so I have no problem defering to your judgement. I just wanted to make sure you weren't trying to "pretty it up" without any actual knowledge. The differences between /ɑ/ and /a/ are difficult to discern to native English speakers, so we tend to impose their equivalence, even when the source language distinguishes them. I never reverted your edit, so everything's fine, I just wanted to check that you knew what you were doing. VIWS talk 09:02, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. Speaking of references, though, a brief Google search revealed this paper, which does seem promising. Since you're active in WPWS, any chance that you have access to the journal? --Paul_012 (talk) 09:10, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- Nah, I don't have any access to academic journals. I haven't been at university for many years - I had to borrow access to much of the documentation for the Unicode Duployan proposal. I don't think my handbook of the IPA has Thai as one of its languages, but I'll fish it out sometime to check. Much regards, VIWS talk

หาบ
That's like saying the talent wasn't used as a currency unit, although admittedly I've never been paid in either. Of course, we could start an entirely separate article on {Baht (mass)} of gold and silver, or better yet, Thai weights and measures and [The Bureau of Weights and Measures]. It would also be nice to add to the Thai section on metrication info about early use of metric measure reported by R. W. Giblin, F.R.G.S., Director of the Royal Survey Department, in his chapter in the 1908 Twentieth century impressions of Siam. And a bit of help wikifying Impressions would save me a หาบ of trouble. --Pawyilee (talk) 16:56, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
- You might have missed it, but I added a see also link in the same edit. --Paul_012 (talk) 17:51, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Ercole Manfredi
The article Ercole Manfredi you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . Sriracha sauce
Hi. You recently split Sriracha sauce (Huy Fong Foods) from Sriracha sauce. Do you know which historical revision(s) that you used? I ask because "rooster sauce or cock sauce" predates this trimming. Flatscan (talk) 05:19, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, it was http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sriracha_sauce&oldid=454807263 . I've corrected the talk page banners. --Paul_012 (talk) 06:17, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing that. The later oldid is okay because all prior revisions are included in the attribution, but I like to be precise when it's possible. I added a dummy edit to record the split in an edit summary. Flatscan (talk) 05:24, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew
Dear Paul012,
Firstly, I answered the discussion at Talk:Grand Palace.
Secondly, I just made this map: Template:Map of Wat Phra Kaew. Please help me with this template too, I haven't put in any wiki-links since the article does not yet have those sections. After I rewrite the article then I wiki-link it properly (not an oversight). Please help me with the Twelve Giants part (A to L). Is it possible if it could be in its own box at the bottom right hand corner? I don't know how to get the code right. Best Regards, and Thanks for all the help! Three pagodas and three pagodas make six
Why to you think that hat note unnecessary? --Pawyilee (talk) 06:42, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- To quote Wikipedia:Disambiguation, "There is no need to add disambiguation links to a page whose name already clearly distinguishes itself from the generic term." (See also WP:NAMB.) Readers arriving at the Three Pagodas Pass article will already know from the title that the article is about the pass, so there is no risk for confusion with Three Pagodas. This is not true the other way round, so a disambiguating hat note is appropriate for the Three Pagodas article. --Paul_012 (talk) 07:39, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

List of protected areas of Thailand
Can you please explain that "Requesting speedy deletion (CSD G6)" for List of protected areas of Thailand in non-jargon? I read the tag and am not getting any wiser. The page is a list, that's all it is; same as List of protected areas of Cambodia. Protected areas of Thailand should be redirected until in the future an article describing and explaining the protected areas of Thailand, policies, history, etc. is made.Xufanc (talk) 03:58, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry for the lack of notice; I was planning to leave you a note later. When you used cut & paste to move content from Protected areas of Thailand to List of protected areas of Thailand, it resulted in the article edit history becoming separated between the pages, which is undesirable. The proper way to rename pages is to use the move function, see Wikipedia:Moving a page for details. What I'm doing is requesting deletion of the new pages so that the old page can be renamed to the new title. --Paul_012 (talk) 04:05, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- So what are the steps for me to follow now in the expansion? It is part of the "List of protected areas of Asia" project.Xufanc (talk) 04:07, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- Seeing as the article in question has been receiving subsequent edits, I changed the request to a history merge request. An administrator should take care of that soon; no further action needed. For future article renames, please use the built-in move function. You may also like to take a look at Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves for previous cut-&-paste moves. I'll be going through some of the articles that you've moved by requesting deletion on the new article and moving the old one to the new name, so don't be alarmed.
- By the way, thanks for your great contributions to the region :) --Paul_012 (talk) 04:14, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Phra Mae Thorani/Vasudhara
[http://ir.canterbury.ac.nz/bitstream/10092/4350/1/guthrie_vol_1_thesis.pdf Guthrie Study of the History and Cult of the Buddhist Earth
Deity in Mainland Southeast Asia PDF] page 2 and note 2 say they are the same. Page 2 note 2
The earth deity's name changes in different countries, but is generally a form of a word for "earth," i.e. Pṛthivī, Kṣiti, Dharaṇī, Vasundharā, and so on. In Cambodia the earth deity is known simply by her title: nān ganhān (pronounced "neang kongheng") from nān, "lady," and gānhān, a Khmer word for "princess." In the Tai regions she is known as Nang Thoranee or Mae Thoranee: "lady earth" or "mother earth." In Burma and Arakan she is Vasundhara (transliterated variously as Wathundari, Wathundaye, Vasundari, and so on). Sometimes she is given the epithet Sundarī, "beautiful one," or Vanitā, "dear one." I use the name Vasundharā in this dissertation for consistency, but the reader should keep in mind that this particular form of the earth deity's name is unknown in Thailand or Cambodia. 3 Zepp (1997: 18).
Consider restoring lede as last modified on 26 August 2010 at 14:55, and adding heading Cult drawn from Guthrie, to say it is unorthodox in Theravada, but seems to some scholars to be an intersection of Northern India Vedic traditions with pre-Bhuddist practices. --Pawyilee (talk) 23:50, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Visaurin
I think Visaurin should be renamed Bisaurin because I am not sure that 'Visaurin' is not a spelling error. Xufanc (talk) 08:57, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- In this case the page move could be performed right away, since Bisaurin already redirected to Visaurin and didn't have any other versions in the edit history. I've done the move. --Paul_012 (talk) 09:16, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. Here is another one that I am not sure about. The Olifants River (Mpumalanga) only has its source in Mpumalanga Province, but most of its course is in Limpopo Province and it is a tributary of the Limpopo River. My suggestion is that the page be renamed as Olifants River (Limpopo) or as Olifants River (Lepelle). What do you think? Xufanc (talk) 04:40, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm. I've really no idea on this. If the Lepelle name is now official and in accepted use, the article could perhaps be named Lepelle River to avoid any need for (disambiguation). The other suggestions are fine to me though. --Paul_012 (talk) 05:11, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- Apparently 'Lepelle' is not (and has traditionally not been) much used (South African Geographical Names; it is not even mentioned here) and I have found no evidence that this name is used in the Mozambique stretch of the river, where I have only found the Portuguese Rio dos Elefantes. I think that, as a tributary of the Limpopo River flowing mostly through Limpopo Province, the page be better renamed as Olifants River (Limpopo) with redirections for the others. Olifants River (Lepelle) would be my second choice, but not Lepelle River only. At any rate 'Lepelle' is prominently mentioned in the article and if its use becomes accepted and widespread in the future, including in the Mozambican area, it could always be renamed again. (Xufanc (talk) 07:26, 17 March 2012 (UTC))
- Thank you. Here is another one that I am not sure about. The Olifants River (Mpumalanga) only has its source in Mpumalanga Province, but most of its course is in Limpopo Province and it is a tributary of the Limpopo River. The article Workpoint Entertainment has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Claims "multiple award-winning programmes" but gives no indication of what those awards are, no sources and doesn't appear to be notable in the article's current form.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Eeekster (talk) 02:17, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Can you update this with more recent films? I voted to keep Workpoint Entertainment. Nice work! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:02, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

I have renamed the discussion i started, "How to name future articles about the various individuals".

Siamese-American Treaty of Amity and Commerce
Siamese-American Treaty of Amity and Commerce was tagged by you as needing text transferred to Wikisource. I agree, but do not know how do that and am too old to learn. The article needs re-writing from scratch and moved to {{Roberts Treaty]] modeled on Bowring Treaty, complete with Template:Infobox_treaty. A better source for the treaty text is United States, United States, William M. Malloy, Compilation of Treaties in Force. If indeed it was still in force, then it was not replaced by the Harris Treaty of 1856. The Harris link, btw, I just changed from a redirect to an improperly formatted dab page; perhaps you could help with that, too. The first link goes to newly added Townsend_Harris#Harris_Treaty_of_1856_with_Siam. So little-known is that treaty that I cited a web page for a National Museum of Natural History exhibit, where I lifted the Harris quote. I think the citation complies with Smithsonian terms of use, but you seem to be better versed in such matters than I. Pawyilee (talk) 12:27, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- I haven't edited Wikisource either, but I think I got it right. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do such extensive work on the article in the near future. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:58, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Rama I and Rama III name changes
There was absolutely no discussion or consensus reached for this seemingly random changes to the article names. I disagree with both these changes I have addressed my concerns with Jessadabodindra > Nangklao at the article's talkpage. Please wait for some comments before making any more of these changes. Regards, Sodacan (talk) 15:55, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Alright I have some solutions. I understand apart from Nangklao the issue is spelling. On Nangklao I will concede, because it is true that the name is more commonly used by historians and sources. I have actually not been able to find Jessadabodindra anywhere. However I found William Warren and Handley using Chetsadabodin & Chetsadabodin. Whoever named the article in the first place probably wanted consistency in using the first name, furthermore many of the article on Wikipedia now uses Jessadabodindra, habits will need to change. But as for the other two kings whose issue is with spellings I will accept Phuttha Yodfa Chulalok and Phuttha Loetla Naphalai. 'Phra' is unnecessary otherwise it would then have to be Phrachao Uthong, Phra Naresuan and Phra Narai or even Phra Nangklao also. The spacing is just a compromise between the two, some of the sources such as Chakrabongse and William A.R. Wood uses it. Again I would like to register my personal protest against this change (although it really means nothing), to change a consensus of several years, which has both consistency and a uniformity about it to this new way :) Regards, Sodacan (talk) 15:30, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Re: High-risk project templates?
I see what you're saying, but the fact that the template had very few edits over the few years before I added that in makes me think that it wasn't really an obstacle. If you want to make some edits to it then I could unprotect it for now. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 16:08, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for June 29
Hi. When you recently edited Phuket News, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Phuket (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
I've reviewed your nomination and think the article is very well done with the information clearly presented. I have only a couple of minor questions at Talk:Samut Prakan radiation accident/GA1.
