Orphaned non-free media (Image:FriscoKid1979.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FriscoKid1979.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For want of a nail[edit]

Really? You think the article doesn't need any more help expanding it? It's only rated "start" class from peer review, and I thought that meant that it needs more help becoming a complete article - do you want to change the rating on the talk page as well? Opera Project stubs/Franz von Jauner etc.[edit]

Hi. I see you are changing a lot of stubs at the moment. Can you possibly explain? I'm afraid I have difficulty understanding the rationale behind the changes. For example the link above is to an opera intendant. You've just removed the opera stub and changed it to a theatre one. Why? He's in WP because of the Vienna State Opera. It doesn't matter much in this case, but I'm concerned we will lose some useful articles if you edit randomly through opera articles. Also please note we are using the main opera stub for opera articles, the others aren't used much. If you are at a loose end for things to do, might I suggest separating conductors and bandleaders stubs - that would be really useful. Best wishes. --Kleinzach 01:32, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! I am not at all at loose ends, nor are my edits random; I'm part of the stub-sorting project, which has a proposal for splitting this category either by century or by language. In order to get an accurate count for the possible split, I'm sorting out things that are not operas, i.e. opera singers & other people, and I will take on opera companies later. Since the articles in question have permanent opera-type categories, they will not be lost in the shuffle. If you feel strongly about a stub type, and you think there may be more than 60 articles for opera people who aren't singers, please feel free to propose {{opera-bio-stub}} or something related at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. Cheers, Her Pegship (tis herself) 02:29, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to change the opera stubs can you please make a proposal on the Opera Project first. I'm sure your interest in Opera will be welcomed if you talk it over with the opera editors. Best. --Kleinzach 02:33, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to the proposal at stub sorting (which is where stub proposals go), someone requested participation by the Opera project and got no response; then when WPSS acted according to stub guidelines, their efforts were reverted. Feel free to invite others to pitch in on that discussion if you like. HTH, Her Pegship (tis herself) 02:44, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
I follow the talk page at Opera Project and no-one ever made contact. I think it's best you post there, explaining clearly what is happening. You can of course provide links to any relevant discussions so there will be no unnecessary repetitions. --Kleinzach 02:55, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Opera project talk archive shows some discussion back in December. Her Pegship (tis herself) 03:19, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
I'll have a look if you can give me the link - otherwise I may not be able to find it. Now, are you going to talk to the project as I've requested? I think that would be the polite thing to do to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings. --Kleinzach 03:24, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Got the link to December discussion. As you will see the project rejected subdividing the stub tag/cat by language. --Kleinzach 03:44, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you'll examine my last comment, you'll see that I did indeed include the link to the appropriate discussion. I was about to post to the Opera project talk page when my friend Grutness got in ahead of me. The project has thus been notified. Her Pegship (tis herself) 05:01, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you're right I missed the link the first time. How many changes have you made to Opera stubs? It looks like 60 or 70. Once again, can you explain what you are doing prior to the discussion that we now know about. Opera is a semi-technical subject and making changes without understanding the content makes work for other people. --Kleinzach 05:16, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how many edits I've made (you can take a look at my contributions if you like). I do understand many of the nuances of the opera world, and I understand your anxiety about making more work, but I have faith that the sorting I have done will help rather than hinder. As for notifying the Opera project, I gathered from the WPSS discussion that that had happened in the past and was about to happen again, so please stop admonishing me for not notifying the project. I am hardly the only editor involved in this discussion. Her Pegship (tis herself) 05:20, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You removed opera stubs from opera librettists and put theatre stubs instead. I've reverted a few of them - can you undo the rest? What other changes have you been making? --Kleinzach 05:30, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Category:Operas from Operas[edit]

I now see you have also been removing Category:Operas from Operas. Please don't do this. The Opera Project has a established practice on the use of this cat (noted here) consistent with the 'Secondary categorization rule' of WP:SUBCAT. --Kleinzach 09:28, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stub sorting[edit]

Good work on the stub sorting. Just one small comment. Can you place two blank lines immediately before the stub message? It gives a rather nice visually appealing gap between the stub message and the article info. Cheers. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 10:06, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Thanks[edit]

S'alright :) I don't blame you for not wanting to go near the opera stubs again - I'm finding the attitudes of a couple of the members of that Wikiproject.... well, a little objectionable would perhaps be the best way of putting it. As for me having a great week, I'd like to, but I'm pretty sad right now. One of my cats hasn't been seen since Thursday, and I'm very worried about it :( Grutness...wha? 08:42, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged Image:Georgeofjungle.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. If this image is being used as a link target instead of displayed inline, please add {{not orphan}} to the image description page to prevent it being accidentally marked as orphaned again. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 12:46, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Overlapping categories[edit]

Hi. You seem like the right person to ask about a couple of overlapping literary categories. A long time ago I set up Category:Works by Madeleine L'Engle, although I think I originally had a different word order. Now I find that some has set up the subcategory Category:Novels by Madeleine L'Engle, which currently has all the books that used to be in parent cat. L'Engle certainly has some nonfiction works, at least one of which (A Circle of Quiet) probably merits an article. But I'm not sure there are ever going to be more than a few articles about L'Engle's non-novels. Does this strike you as over-categorization, or as a good idea? :) Regards and thanks! --Karen | Talk | contribs 02:53, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You shouldn't change Canadian spelling of words to American spelling nor should someone change American spelling to Canadian spelling as you did with the word "volumne" to "volumne" as you did in the following edit. Please stop that, thank you. Green Squares (talk) 23:48, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
