A username blockmessage would have been better. 209.244.43.113 (talk) 23:37, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

  • Any particular reason why you were interested in that block? And by the way, their edits were vandalism thus it wouldn't have been wised to u-block them as you typically do that with account creation left on.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 23:39, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
I was talking about the talk page, not log. 209.244.43.113 (talk) 04:37, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Its honestly not a huge deal which template is used. Fact of the matter is, it was a vandal account, not much more to it.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 02:19, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Sounds to me like you did exactly the right thing.
I see you've got plenty of anti-vandalism barnstars. So how about a Vandal Whacking Stick? I discovered these a few days ago. They add variety to your awards, plus give you a handy weapon. Doczilla STOMP! 04:42, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
The Vandal Whacking Stick
To help you in your efforts to fight off the vandals, you need every weapon you can get in your arsenal. I therefore award you this vandal whacking stick. You've proven you can put it to good use. Doczilla STOMP! 04:42, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
...Thanks Is convinced the world is ending...I ain't suppose to be getting this many barnstars in one month :P?!!!¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:29, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the quick action here. I suggest it be semi-protected and also permanently move-protected for admins only for the move protect part - because there is most likely no real reason to move the article. Cirt (talk) 01:47, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry I was about to remove that auto notice myself but you did it first. Cirt (talk) 01:51, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I just saw all those pages moves...

Maybe it's time to ask the developers for a feature that allows to oversight a page move. This looks like the same problem like when vandals where leaving messages on the edit summary, and there was still no tool to oversight those. --Enric Naval (talk) 02:32, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Your status indicator

Hello, Persian Poet Gal. I assume your status indicator is updated by StatusBot. Well, status bot was just blocked indef so your status won't update by it self. You may have to try a different method. I can only think of updating it manually. Please reply on my talk page. Thanks, RyRy5 (talk) 06:52, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I'v recently heard about that. Best, RyRy5 (talk) 06:57, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Two username spoofs

Postrussian Poet Lady. Second:The following is a transliteration of Persian Poet Gal into Russian, may not be completely correct, this is a spoof as others are unable to tell what it says, Пржн Поэт Гал. --209.244.43.113 (talk) 00:42, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I think you made a mistake

In blocking this user for 24 hours for revealing personal info. when i think it was this user because the revert you did here the edit doesn't show up so that must have been the personal info. Am i correct? Just wanted to tell you thats all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.154.16.30 (talk) 04:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for catching that! I removed the edit from the edit history and ended up missing the block button by one notch. I will lift the block on the inappropriately blocked account. As for the other IP, there is no more reason to block at this time because it is inactive.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 04:25, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

A question

Hello Persian Poet Gal.

I recently made a post on Iridescent's talk page asking if s/he thought I could pass an RFA. After answering, s/he suggested that I ask you what your opinion is, since you're area of expertise is more in line with my editing patterns. So here you go:

Do you think I could conceivably pass an RFA in the (very) near future?
If you want to see about my wikilife aside from vandal-fighting without sifting through my contributions list, probably my answers to the questions in my recent editor review would give a good rundown of most of my "real" contributions.

Thanks for your time.

Regards, J.delanoygabsadds 00:45, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

BTW, I like how there were five separate entries in the protection logs for your userpage and talk page within 18 hours of each other :) J.delanoygabsadds 01:18, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
  • J.delanoy, I believe there is a very high probability that you could pass an RFA in the near future. Your strengths at the moment are quite self-evident; you regularly give your 2 cents at community noticeboard discussions, you participate in deletion discussions quite often, you've never engaged in bitey/uncivil behavior, and you are quite a prolific vandal fighter! The community would probably consider you as a "specialist" (I also fall under this category). Because of this, RFA !voters may scrutinize your contribution history and may be concerned with lack of contributions to article space. However, I believe the community understands that there are a wide variety of Wikipedia editors whose specialties are indispensable when it comes to the mop. What is most important to the community is that an admin candidate can be trusted to use the tools responsibly and with care. You have the necessary experience and contribution history that indicates that you would not abuse that trust. Feel free to drop a line here any time if you have any other questions regarding the RFA process. P.S. You wouldn't be embarrassed if I offered to nom you eh :D? Let me know.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:22, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
PPG, you may want (if you haven't already) to read the conversation J.d links to above, to save you going over the same points - or so you can disagree with them. It would probably be worth skimming the whole sorry mess regarding User:Xp54321 and his rag-tag band of sockpuppets, bad-hand accounts and dubious "friends", since it'll no doubt be raised in any RFA (J.d was totally innocent in the whole affair and acted above-and-beyond in AGF, but as Giggy will testify, mud sticks at the moment). – iridescent
Unfortunately with any candidacy issues will be raised in order to detract the deservingness of the candidate. It is not worth to tread lightly and deny potentially good candidates a fair chance at running for the mop.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 02:00, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
I really appreciate your response and your offer. I would like to accept, but in light of what Iridescent showed you, do you think I could pass? J.delanoygabsadds 12:13, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
J.delanoy, I still have faith in the statements I made above :). I think its appropriate for you to take this time and famaliarize yourself with what Adminship entails. I would be willing to set up a nom for you sometime around mid July (1. Because this will give you some time to brush up in certain areas & 2. Real life time constraints are a pain). We'll see how it goes from there ;).¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 22:03, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Works for me, and again, I really appreciate your offer! J.delanoygabsadds 23:29, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

About the top of your page

Could you find some way to keep it from interfering with Firefox? I can't block IPs harassing you as easily or roll back their edits as it prevents those links from being clicked. -Jéské (v^_^v E pluribus unum) 07:46, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I noticed that as well....probably a result of using an absolute header layout. An easy workaround is to click on the vandal's contributions link and revert from there. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:41, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I think the "Leave a new message" button was the culprit (removed it). Don't think I've ever experienced rollback/block problems when an absolute header is active on a page. If you still notice some problems however, let me know and I'll see how I can tweak it so it will not interfere. By the way, thanks for the amazing effort protecting my talk page last night :). I'm sorry that I've adapted this new policy regarding sprotecting my talk page but your attitude towards the talk page floods inspired me Jéské. I still don't think a subpage is necessary for me at the moment and I've decided that I rather leave the lines of communication open on the direct talk page. I can easily deal with an onslaught and put a bunch of potential main page "HAGGER(s)?" out of commission that way. It actually makes me laugh now when I see the floods :D. As I said some time ago, "I'm a big girl" and I can handle a little pestilence like that.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 22:03, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

It works now :D Thanks for fixing it. And you're welcome. -Jéské (v^_^v E pluribus unum) 23:45, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I can't move my talk page to archive. Is this becuase this page is protected? If so can you change this? --Gavin Collins (talk) 09:43, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

LOL

I'm sorry, this just makes me giggle. And it totally clogs my watchlist. Thanks a LOT. ;)

It must be nice to be able to do that. And to be able to block the vandals when something like this happens... J.delanoygabsadds 13:35, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Your Page Headers

Likely you know this already and the choice is deliberate. However, just in case you dont: if another user is at your page, there is nothing visible on that page to take him/her anywhere else. All the guides are hidden by your banner, including "History" and "Add a section", as well as all the quick links that are in my monobook page to help me navigate. In order to add a section, I have to know to go to the last section and use the == == . If this is deliberate, I'd be interested in knowing the reason for it. (Perhaps it only happens when the incoming user, the visitor to your page, uses a monobook other than the standard one.) User:RyRy5's page, for example, has a similar problem for me, except that he has put the navigation tools for his own page beneath the banner. I still can't see my own banner, but I can, at least, get around his pages. Thanks for any guidance you can provide. ៛ Bielle (talk) 16:25, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

What browser are you using? I have Firefox 3 and it looks fine to me. Also, aside from the fact that (of course) it can't support Twinkle, even IE7 renders it with no visible differences. J.delanoygabsadds 16:48, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Jumping in here - are you using a skin other than Monobook? There's a known bug in the Modern skin (for example) due to the way it repositions the tabs at the top of the page. – iridescent 16:37, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you both. Just before I read Iridescent's comment, I switched my skin from Modern to Monobook, in IE, and no longer have the problem with this page. Thanks for all your help. Now, all I have to do is find a skin I like that doesn't prevent me from accessing other people's pages properly. Thanks again. ៛ Bielle (talk) 07:15, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

refdesk semiprotection

Please reunprotect Wikipedia:Reference desk/Miscellaneous. We'd rather revert vandalism manually than lock out all anonymous contributors. See here for discussion. Thanks. —Steve Summit (talk) 20:05, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

The discussion you linked to lead to no set in stone concensus against a protection. I am more than willing to have it unprotected in a couple hours however. So if I'm offline, request another admin to do so.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:08, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
I did think there was consensus (otherwise I wouldn't have asked), but I've now asked for clarification.
I agree that the recent spamming is a real problem. However, even more so than the rest of Wikipedia, the Reference Desks must remain open to anonymous editors. If we have to protect them in order to save them, they're ruined. The spammers have won, and we might as well delete the pages. —Steve Summit (talk) 20:32, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello, im an IP - And im not here to Vandalize:-)

Guess those IPs think your a baby and you were going to cry:P But seriously Persian Poet Gal how often are you normally on IRC, if so what channels? I know your crammed with your studies and of course thats the most important thing but i was just wondering thats all, do you only use it when you have something important to say to other admins on that particular channel? Its just that i like so many others think your one of the best editors on here and you are so kind, i can learn so much from you just with your presence and your contributions, you really are a special user on here. I admire your commitment and dedication to helping the encyclopedia and just what you can do whenever you have the time free. Are you into MSN or any other instant messengers? Im sorry to intrude but im just a newbie, i mean this is the first time getting in touch with you and its all in good faith, please trust me, im actually quite nervous because i can only imagine how beautiful you are in real life. You really are a special user thats all, i mean no harm and if you ignore this message i will understand. Your spoken edits are amazing, i guess you just have a really nice voice. I can only imagine how many admirers you have gotten and looking at your spoofer list, i acknowledge and share their feelings, the Persian Poet Guy, wherever he is, will end up as the luckiest man in the whole wide world to have a partner like yourself:) Thank You, do take care and good luck with the studies (P.S Just tell your uni your PPG from Wikipedia and you'll be cool:P) 119.11.11.109 (talk) 07:16, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Massive attack of the GRAWP clones today

Hi, I'm so glad you're around to help block all of them but I can't help but wonder about this... in the user creation log, it says that these accounts were created automatically. How come? Is there any way we can stop it? Sincerely. --Dave1185 (talk) 10:18, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Is there anyway to counter this kind of abuse? Man, I counted twenty five different accounts I reported to you guys, which were BLOCKED indef. Surely there must be a better way to get these bastards, right? --Dave1185 (talk) 10:24, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Well trust me, as much as Grawp may get your goat, vandalism will always be a problem. No way to get around it. However, at the end of the day life is the same way ain't it? Never will be a shortage of jerks, cynics, or fictional giants who like to bash at a keyboard and vandalize Wikipedia all day. Point is, you learn to just take it and smile :).¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 10:27, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
  • True, true... minor corrections here, last added five more thus bringing to a grand total of thirty accounts BLOCKED indef. Guess we'll never be rid of these guys going for such cheap thrills, eh? Cheers, mate! --Dave1185 (talk) 10:32, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

It's what I get for snooping. ;) I noticed you didn't like the "KOS" I don't blame you for it! I was just checking to make sure you got it working correctly? It looked good to me, but this isn't something you can just test out straight away. You should see a tab at the top of Special:Contributions/KnowledgeOfSelf a red "revert all edits" tab. I'm sure you don't need it, but a word of advice, be very cautious when using it. I once reverted all of Singapore. The good the bad and the ugly. :/ Cheers. Thanks for the vandal fighter's toolbox; I had already used Lupin and Twinkle, but that other stuff is incredibly useful as well! Much appreciated, and happy editing, Leonard^Bloom (talk) 01:22, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Kudos for your hard work!

It would seem that our little friend Grawp has nothing better to do on a Friday night beyond hurling idiotic insults at you. All I can say is, keep the sock blocks coming. You're among the reasons I started editing this site again. I truly admire your hard work and dedication. Have a wonderful weekend and be secure in the knowledge that you have the blocking tools and that moron does not, so let him lash out. He's making a first class fool of himself on a worldwide stage and we get the last chuckle. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 02:12, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Your words are very kind thank you :). We have to remember that at the end of the day Grawp ain't a giant but just a regular person like the rest of us. I don't wish to attempt to make a fool out of him nor do I hate his guts. I'm just doing what I can to help keep this joint clean :D.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 02:16, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Hear, hear and well said. I can't honestly say that I hate some guy whose sole hobby seems to be vandalizing a wiki and I know you don't want to make a fool of him. Here's hoping he'll get the hint and get a life once he realizes all his cleverly named accounts aren't exactly accessible.  :) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 02:36, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Aw, that's cute. He's apparently still online; that username he made with your comment to me sure didn't get past you! Good luck and have fun. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 02:50, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Strangeness in usernames?

Hihi...I was asking about some odd usernames and someone suggested they might have something to do with a Harry Potter fan...

The "TheLawMovie" account created one article which I marked G3 because I couldn't find anything about it...Disney's American Legends is a real movie, but I think it was later. It just struck me as odd that the usernames were so close? Maybe nothing...just though someone might want to look around :) LegoTech·(t)·(c) 07:57, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Possible Grawp?

I found this on the new user page: User:المجد

Given Grawp's proclivity toward non-Latin character names, do you think this is worth a look? --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:43, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Whew. I'd hate to think that I was becoming paranoid! I'll definitely e-mail you next time. Thanks. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 16:08, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Input requested

Hi Persian Poet Gal, if you have time, I'd like your opinion here (or on my talk page or via email, if you think that's more appropriate). It's regarding a possible unblock of someone who participated in a recent spate of forum attacks on your talk page. Thanks, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 04:44, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Quick question

What font did you use in Image:Persian Poet Gal.png? J.delanoygabsadds 05:13, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Abusing multiple accounts

Can you please tell me what exactly is wrong with anything I've done that would lead to being blocked? I don't believe that I am being treated fairly, and haven't had any reason to think otherwise so far. Ichthyosis (talk)

Thanks for your support.

I changed my mind about packing it in. My talk page and user page are protected and I have rollback privileges, so I really shouldn't worry. I filed a complaint with Comcast about the threat who in turn took it seriously and promised action. Thanks for all your support. I've reactivated my e-mail access, but I won't be able to verify it until Monday. You're a class act, PPG. Don't let the trolls grind you down. Respectfully yours, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 05:33, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Well done

User talk:24.47.186.143 was a very clever, and brilliantly executed, way of handling that situation. I doubt many administrators, myself possibly included, would have enough patience and ability to AGF to work out that complicated an unblock request. Well done. I'd offer you a barnstar, but you seem somewhat overwhelmed with them of late... should you want one anyway, I think Template:The Special Barnstar would be most appropriate. Keep up the good work! Hersfold non-admin(t/a/c) 03:42, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

The picture idea was pretty damn clever. My two cents: I'd actually unblock now and assume good faith, because based on my reading of the exchanges, I think it highly unlikely that the user is, in fact, Grawp. Enigma message 04:00, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you both for your comments. At first the technical evidence was very alarming, especially when Same Korn posted regarding the CU data. I am truly hoping that this has all been a mistake and we are not dealing with the persistence of a page move vandal. Most likely if he is able to contact the professor regarding the other accounts, we can be 100% sure that none of those users had any relation to Grawp.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 04:34, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
We'll see where it goes from here. As an aside, I appreciated the humor on Bigntall18's talk page. :) Reminds me a little of this. Page 6. Bit of a crude joke, but it makes the point. Enigma message 07:28, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
