Don't argue in edit summaries

[edit]

Hi Politicsislife, for the future: if you think you know better about something and have reliable sources backing up your statement, then please start a discussion on the talk page so a consensus can be found. Best regards Hekerui (talk) 11:00, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll avoid that from now on. --Politicsislife (talk) 22:27, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

William H. Ryan, Jr.

[edit]

That is very good work on the William H. Ryan, Jr. article. Take a look at the talk page, where I have added appropriate templates. When you create a new article, take a look at related articles to see what templates would be appropriate, and be ready to add them right after you create the article. Also, take a look at the inline citation I added. The quote is not ideal, but the article itself is interesting. Notice, too, that this is a reliable secondary source. Your inline citation is to a primary source, but reliable secondary sources are preferred. You have created an excellent stub article, and with improvements it will become class=start. --DThomsen8 (talk) 20:30, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Dave JONES ICCAL.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Dave JONES ICCAL.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 07:46, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:JillLT.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:JillLT.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 07:46, 6 February 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 07:46, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Obamacare"

[edit]

Hi I just wanted to let you know I changed the wording in the edit to the Dereck Schmidt page. You listed the health care reform bill as “Obamacare” this is not an official term but rather a slang term started by conservatives and can be taken offensively by some. Please refrain from using this terminology in the future, our personal opinions to not belong in wikipedia. Thanks.--Politicsislife (talk) 01:24, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The comment above was left on my talk page. It is unnecessarily combative and unproductive. Please just edit the articles and do not lecture the other editors. Thank you.--Corbridge (talk) 01:37, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please see: Bushism, as an example of word which "not an official term but rather a slang term started by" liberals and can be taken offensively by some. Please refrain from your misplaced lectures.--Corbridge (talk) 01:41, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was not meaning to lecture at all. Really I wasn’t. I guess I am not good at coming off as friendly and I’m not saying liberals don’t do it, sadly everyone does. I should point out I am by no means a liberal, not that it reflects anything to the argument. I just wanted to let you know not to be more careful with phrasing. Again sorry if it came off as combative or anything like that. Thanks.--Politicsislife (talk) 02:05, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:CongressmanJohnYarmuth.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CongressmanJohnYarmuth.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:08, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why upload over another image? His head was on Benton, Kansas. Hekerui (talk) 08:05, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am so sorry, I really did not mean to do that. It was not my intention and I do not know why I titled it that. I wanted a better image that was not black and white. Sorry. I am still fairly new to this. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Politicsislife (talkcontribs)
[edit]

I nominated File:Ofdayton.jpg and File:Lgps.jpg for deletion because they are copyright violations. They are not works of the federal government so don't simply upload them under a license you made up. Hekerui (talk) 08:14, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe Minnesota has special copyright laws that always use of statewide office holders photos. Similar to California. His predecessor as Governor also has his official state photo used as well. As do all Minnesota state office holders and most all state legislators. It is definitely not my intention to cause issue. If you are going to nominate these pictures for deletion then all other state office holders, state legislators and former Gov. Pawlenty’s photo and the former Lieutenant Governor’s photo should also be deleted as they were gotten in the exact way and licensed the way I got these photos. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Politicsislife (talkcontribs)
You didn't claim a public domain license but a Creative Commons license, and that was certainly not permitted by Minnesota. The head shot photo of Tim Pawlenty used in his article infobox was released by Pawlenty under a specific license, so it has nothing to do with Minnesota law. When you refer to Minnesota law you mean Template:PD-MNGov, I guess? That template is a mess and should probably undergo a deletion discussion. It already underwent one on Commons and the outcome was that it should be done away with. I realize this can be confusing. But please don't upload images under licenses not even mentioned in the source. Hekerui (talk) 20:57, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, sorry. I was told by a friend that Minnesota pics were kosher in the same way Florida and California are. I stand corrected. Like I said all other statewide office holders and state legislators have similarly uploaded images so you may want to take a look at them. I’ll stick to federal images from now on. Thanks for letting me know. --Politicsislife (talk) 00:25, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on John Crangle requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you can assert the notability of the subject, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

See the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. De728631 (talk) 20:52, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The other county officials with an article have most likely received coverage by multiple reliable sources and are therefore notable, and WP:OTHERSTUFF is not a valid argument. This article has no sources whatsoever that constitute notability and per WP:BLP all new articles on living persons must have at least one source anyway – otherwise they are subject to a dated deletion. The man has only just been appointed to his office and as you wrote he's only a temporal officeholder; so we should wait until sufficient reliable reports exist to prove his notability. File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:SenatorRYoung.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 01:28, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, File:RepBobTurner2011.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.nygop.org/page/bob-turner (predates current source, a file being hosted by the federal government doesn't make it federal government work). As a copyright violation, File:RepBobTurner2011.jpg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. File:RepBobTurner2011.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia must require all contributors to understand and comply with its copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. Hekerui (talk) 08:46, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jonathan D. George

[edit]

There were no copyright issues in the previous article. US government works are in the public domain. Thus, as long as the information is properly attributed (which I took care of with a tag), they can be copied verbatim. This isn't to say that this is the best approach, but if that was your sole reason for massively changing the article, it wasn't necessary. You may want to consider going back and incorporating some of the info you removed. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:04, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your concern. I realize now that it was not a copy right infringement, however I still feel this is the best way to go, rather than copying and pasting. I already posted a comment on the other users talk page welcoming them to edit how they feel fit, incorporating more info from the previous article, and I welcome you to do so also. I know its not perfect now, but it still has time to grow.--Politicsislife (talk) 02:12, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. I have no opinions about the article content itself, just covering the technical aspects. Thanks for your work! Qwyrxian (talk) 02:15, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just wanted to let you know that I took a look at your recently created article Kentucky State Treasurer-- However, I think the article seems to contain a few errors: some of the article's Wikilinks are broken. Jipinghe (talk) 01:18, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As far as articles go it was not something I put a lot of time towards. I just put something together quickly from info obtained from the 2011 Treasurer election page. I look forward to continue working on it in the future (I have a super long to do list already haha). I appreciate the work that you have put towards it. Thanks for the feedback. --Politicsislife (talk) 02:46, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bev Perdue

[edit]

Please do not remove sourced, relevant material without consensus, as you did at Bev Perdue earlier today. Neutral statement of notable facts from reliable sources does not constitute bias in any form. If you still believe that there are problems with the article, read WP:CONSENSUS and then take it to the article's talk page. Thanks very much. Evanh2008, Super Genius Who am I? You can talk to me... 03:49, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, first off happy Thanksgiving. I do not know much about Governor Perdue, care much about her, or anything of that matter. However I have been watching this page for a long time now and have seen various editors put their personal distaste towards Governor Perdue through various forms. I remember the approval section that was once on here that only had negative approvals, and positive, or less bad, got removed for no reason. I remember when her intro was just that she was Governor and then a list of controversies and approvals. The part of her being DOA on her 2012 re-elction. I have seen the various forms of attacks on her, for no other reason than bias I fear. The fact she has received hardly anything but negative coverage since her inauguration shows this. Funny how no one bothered to post about highlights such as her handling of Hurricane Irene. I do not mean insult to you, I am sure you are a fine editor with good intentions. However I fear many contributors to this page do not have the best interest of wikipedia at heart, and this section is a classic example of this. For the consciousness I have been on here with varying usernames for years, I know how that works. You post on the talk page and nothing happens unless it is an extremely hot button page, which this is not. If anything the uber biased editors chipping in. You and I know doing this will accomplish nothing. To the section itself it is well cited, but just because you give it references does not mean it is valid. The thing was clearly a bad joke and does not deserve an entire section. A mention maybe (really I think not), but an entire section? Not at all. It just irks me to see bias. Look at my edit history, I take off bias from Republican pages as well. I just can't stand it anywhere. So yes I took it off. However I understand you concerns and I feel we can work this through friendly and with compromise. I assume you would like it mentioned. How about we shorten it in length, synopsizes the quote put it under the fed investigating section and make one big controversy section. Or perhaps shorten the article as I said above and change the title to something besides Controversies, or maybe create a Governor section, add some items as well as this to it. I really do not like editing wars, no one does, and I do not wish to start one with you. I have no intention to do so. So please work with me on this, I am sure we can work through it well and create a better page. Thanks and best regards. --Politicsislife (talk) 05:18, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A happy Thanksgiving to you as well. : ) You bring up several good points about the article, and I certainly didn't mean to accuse you of being biased or trying to push a POV, so if you took it that way, I apologize. I'm not aware of the positive statements being removed as you mentioned, but maybe I haven't been watching the page as long as you. I especially like your suggestion of creating a section specifically for her tenure as governor; I think that could help the article a lot and we might want to give that a go in the near future. You're also right about the article not being a highly patrolled one, and I know what you mean about the talk page. I don't necessarily think that the article as it stands now is particularly biased, though. Articles can get in a state where they can appear that way just because of infrequent editing (often by IPs) that tends to get clustered close together when a news event (the election thing) happens. My only beef with your change was that you unilaterally removed info that was notable and sourced. As such, I do think it deserves a mention, but I think your suggestion of merging the Investigation and Controversies section is a perfect one! I'll try to do some work on the article to get that process started tomorrow or Friday. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving! Evanh2008, Super Genius Who am I? You can talk to me... 05:38, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. 2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
