ACC Confirm

This edit hereby confirms that I duly request an ACC account. Thanks - Rich(MTCD)T|C|E-Mail 11:43, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

ACC

Methecooldude thank you for applying to access the account creation tool. I have approved your request so welcome to the team. You may now access the tool here. Before you do so, please read the tool's guide thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process.

You may also want to join #wikipedia-en-accounts on IRC where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and to get any advice on requests as well as the mailing list. Please note that we have implemented a policy of zero tolerance on mishandled requests, and that failure to assess correctly will result in suspension. I would like to emphasize that it is not a race to complete a request, and each one should be handled diligently and thoroughly.

Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day, although you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked "Account Creator Needed" by the bot and "Flagged user needed" in the tool. However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at WP:PERM.

Please keep in mind that the ACC tool is a powerful program, and misuse will result in your access being suspended by a tool administrator. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Again welcome!

P.S. disregard last email :P

RfA

I observed you made an RfA. I also observed you haven't done too much article related stuff, which may be a barrier to your success. In any case, good luck. --The Σ talkcontribs 21:40, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

By the way, CB3 stopped working. --The Σ talkcontribs 21:43, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
At some point your RFA will be closed early. Before that, people will pile on telling you that you are not ready. You'd need to build up more experience before being able to pass at RfA. It's up to you, but it might be an idea to withdraw your nomination now and try again in 6 months or a year's time. SilkTork *Tea time 22:11, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough. - Rich(MTCD)T|C|E-Mail 22:12, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Don't be down on yourself about it, though. I think just a couple months of putting yourself out there and broadening your areas of participation will be enough to turn the next RFA into a successful one. Trusilver 22:23, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Rich, sorry I had to oppose your RfA. This doesn't mean your vandal-fighting work isn't appreciated; I hope you will keep up the good work there, and as others have suggested, try out new and exciting areas of the 'pedia, like article-building ('cause that's why we're all here!) Anyway, don't take it personally – my first RfA was unsuccessful too, and I found (some of) what the opposers had to say helpful in becoming a better editor; hopefully you will too. Best, 28bytes (talk) 22:41, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Yay! Someone who calls me by my name! WikiLove to you... anyway, article-building has never been my thing and anything I add would highly likely get reverted anyway. Anti-vandalism has always been what I've wanted to do on the 'pedia and hence why I started there. If you can suggest anything for me to get involved in with relation to this, then please do! Thanks for your kind words - Rich(MTCD)T|C|E-Mail 22:55, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, there's absolutely nothing wrong with vandal-fighting. Without the editors and bots who clean up after the vandals, the encyclopedia would collapse into complete junk in no time. My advice: do what you enjoy doing. If vandal-fighting's your thing, just keep on trucking with that. You probably won't be able to gain adminship without at least some article work, but there are plenty of respected non-admins on this site who are doing what they love. If you do decide you want to branch out into content creation, my advice would be to pick an area that interests you, and see what's not in the encyclopedia, but should be. For example, pop songs are an interest of mine, so I visit Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/List of notable songs to see what notable songs don't have articles yet, and if I like the song, I dig up some sources and create an article. Ditto with video games... lots of red links still in List of Atari 2600 games, for example. 28bytes (talk) 23:10, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
And like I said in the RFA, using article building as a means to judge someone suitable to adminship is downright absurd. I had only worked a single article to good status and I was able to pass RFA. Now, I also had started a Wikiproject too, which I'm sure gave me points, but the most important thing that I did... the part that was most often pointed out by my near 100 supports was my anti-vandalism work. Keep branching out and learning new tasks, but do what you do best before anything. Trusilver 23:20, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Rich, thanks for all the work you do on Wikipedia; your efforts are hugely appreciated. I would encourage you to ignore the suggestions here and at the RFA to do X and Y in order to put together a better RfA application in the future. Instead, I would encourage you to do whatever you find interesting and compelling. There are many different things that need to be done around here, and different people like doing different things, so I don't think there is any need for you to feel pressured to do things you don't want to do. It might be fun to try content work or AfDs or whatever, but do it because you want to, not because someone told you you need to do it to pass RfA. One huge roadblock for your RfA was that your edit count is really low; once you have 2/3x (maybe more?) as many edits, if you then find that the lack of block/delete/protect buttons are really getting in the way of what you want to be helping with, then file another RfA; otherwise don't bother. While the sentiment that significant content work is required to become an admin is still alive and well, I think it may be fading. I have one request, though, as you do your great anti-vandal work. When you revert a good faith edit that is not vandalism—not a "test" as you charitably call it—like this one please provide a meaningful edit summary and avoid putting insulting messages on the user's talk page (see wp:NOTVAND if you haven't). This editor was here to help, and got mistreated by you and another established editor, and then left. ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 00:30, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
