My extreme Wikibreak has ended
[edit]My fellow editor,
You may have noticed that I have been on a huge wikibreak over the entire summer, or you may not have. I am dreadfully sorry if my unexplained, unannounced, unplanned absence has caused harm to the project involving Outlines of Knowledge, but I am confident that you have recognized my absence and have delegated tasks to this project's additional staff. I have no real excuse for my absence; I haven't suffered some sickness or injury, nor a family emergency. I can't really say that I decided to take a wikibreak...it really just happened. I stopped checking my talk page, stopped editing, moved to other "hobbies". This is really just reflective of my style when editing...I have been through relapsing/recurring cycles when editing before. This was just the first time that I was engaged in an active project.
But enough self explanation. I am sorry for disappearing without notice, and while I can't say that it won't happen again (it most likely will), I can say that I will give due warning if I decide to take another break. With that said, I can start doing work again, although I will be limited to working in the evenings (Mountain Time) as usual. My bot is still functional; it still has its bot flag, and work with AWB should still be no problem. I look forward to your response, and hope that you can forgive my "discrepancy." Thank you very much, Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 23:59, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for the heads up, and welcome home! I've also been on wikibreak for the past couple of months, with occasional sessions online to keep an eye on things. We have lots of work left ahead of us, though not any bot or AWB work at the moment. All the work right now seems to be manual, but you might be able to figure out a way to speed it up. I've been using WP:LINKY to speed up work on similar tasks on multiple pages, and I can use as much help as I can get because there is a great deal of this type of work. I'll be in touch again soon. The Transhumanist 01:12, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- P.S.: while you are waiting for your next assignment, please take a look at Outline of space exploration and see if you can improve it. Thank you. -TT

Task request
[edit]Please move all of the pages from Wikipedia:WikiProject Outline of knowledge to Wikipedia:WikiProject Outline of Knowledge. (Just capitalize "knowledge").
The WikiProject has a lot of subpages, and subsubpages (most of which are under /Drafts/).
I look forward to your reply.
The Transhumanist 22:44, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'll get right on that. Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 23:08, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- I went ahead and did it, but please check for any I missed. Move just the pages that haven't been moved yet (not the redirects!). The Transhumanist 23:17, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- Copy that, now checking the subpages. Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 23:18, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- I went ahead and did it, but please check for any I missed. Move just the pages that haven't been moved yet (not the redirects!). The Transhumanist 23:17, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
New task request
[edit]In the contents of the pages that have titles that start with "Wikipedia:WikiProject Outline of Knowledge", please change the string:
"Wikipedia:WikiProject Outline of knowledge"
to
"Wikipedia:WikiProject Outline of Knowledge"
(without the quotes, of course)
(and also of course, do not move/rename the pages). :)
Thank you.
The Transhumanist 23:27, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- Doing...I'm assume I'm not to touch mainspace articles; I'll instruct AWB to skip redirects. Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 23:32, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- Correct. There aren't any "wikipedia:" links in those anyways, as far as I know. The Transhumanist 23:39, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- Done. 20 edits in total. Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 23:57, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
Availability
[edit]How much do you want me to pile on? :)
The Transhumanist 23:39, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- It depends on the task. During the weekdays I can only work nights (MT) but on the weekends I'm pretty free. The more automated the task is, the easier I can get it done. So, you should prioritize when you want any tasks done, since I'll be working sequentially on the aforementioned schedule. To make a long story short, pile on as much as you like, but remember when I can work on it and that I will work sequentially. Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 23:45, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
Renames
[edit]Cool.
You want a big pile.
Congratulations! You've just won a new...
Big pile...
- We need to track down all the lists with "topics" in their titles, and save them to a list. (Not redirects). One good place to start is http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&num=100&q=allintitle%3A+list+topics+-Category+-Template+-Talk+site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2F&aq=f&oq=&aqi=
- Then we need to change the names of those that are outlines to "Outline of x" (where x is the topic).
- Then we need to add their names to the OOK.
- Then we need to convert their contents to OOK format. (Not as bad as it sounds, maybe 10 to 15 minutes each to start - faster once you get the hang of it).
In cases where an "Outline of" article already exists, we need to merge the corresponding topics list into it. However, the renames/conversions are more important because they'll expand the topic selection on the main OOK page. There are a bunch of (extensive) country topics lists, and they will be a bitch to merge (1 to 3 hours each). We should pick away at those, but for now we should conserve most of our energy for things we can change rapidly, like renames and conversions.
The Transhumanist 23:53, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
P.S.: some of the topics lists are alphabetical indexes. I've been renaming those as I come across them to "Index of x articles". For example, see Index of architecture articles. For the rest, see Portal:Contents/Index. -TT
- For the first step, is there some general category that I can get all of the lists from? Or are we going to rely on searches? Querying the API returns a huge amount of results...it doesn't help that non-sysops can only ask for 50 pages at a time. I got to result 600...see User:Robert Skyhawk/Workspace. Ideas? Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 01:11, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm afraid not. I've pulled the first hundred from that search link I included above into User:The Transhumanist/Sandbox75. I used the search replace feature of WP:WikEd to disable the non-article links in the search results. Then I loaded them into Firefox tabs using Linky, so I can jump to the next one in line just by nuking the current tab with Ctrl-W. Pretty fast.
- Start on the second hundred, because I'll be through these pretty fast. The Transhumanist 01:29, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- Caveat! Beware! - skip List of opera topics. There's been a local conflict over that one, so we'll leave that to a future time. Maybe next year. The Transhumanist 01:35, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Take a look at how I've been keeping track of the topic lists as I process them (see the expansion section and below):
- here's the list I pulled that comes after the last result here...there are so few (32) because most of the Google results were in the Project or User namespace. I've also put the raw results you got on that Workspace page that I linked to, so it's a relatively comprehensive list. I'll start moving the pages I got to their proper titles (step 2). Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 23:36, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- P.S. I'm skipping over the country-related lists, since we already have outlines for those. I'm not sure whether you want to merge or what, but for now I'm leaving them. -RS
(outdent)Moves are Done; the renamed pages have also been added to the project. I've skipped some, including countries and lists that I think were false positives. Feel free to go over the results, of course. I should tell you that if there is any controversy over any of the moves, my plan is to revert immediately and then work on solving the problem. Outline Update - expanding the Outline of Knowledge - 2009-10-05
[edit]Time for some catching up...
- Special award and thanks to Buaidh
Congratulations and kudos to Buaidh, the first recipient of the Wikipedia World Developer Award, and the first inductee into the Outline of Knowledge WikiProject's Hall of Fame.
The award was announced about 2 months agos on the WikiProject's talk page, and on Wikipedia's Community Bulletin Board.
Buaidh created the historical outlines for all of the U.S. States, the U.S. capital, and most of the U.S. insular areas. He has also worked indefatigably day after day, improving all of the outlines of the U.S. States, and the outlines of all of the countries of the world!
- Who's been up to what?
- Buaidh, working hard on the country outlines.
- Highfields, MacMed, and I worked on the see also sections of the subject articles corresponding to the outlines (adding or updating the links to the relevant outlines and indexes).
- Wiki-Zombies
Discussions can sure be frustrating - try getting a proposal through on a guideline's talk page sometime. Most of the time, it seems like the opposition is mindlessly following each other, like...
Zombies. (You've got to see this).
- Outline of Knowledge
Yes, it's a proper noun. It's only proper, since we also have an article called Outline of knowledge which is about knowledge generically.
- OOK expansion!
After a couple month vacation, I'm ready to slam the gas pedal to the floor. Are you?
Things are speeding up!
Take a look...

Moving lists to outlines
[edit]Hi, you recently renamed a lot of established "List" articles to the "Outline of" format without first discussing the moves or getting any consensus for the renames. Although this is fine per WP:BOLD, doing so many at a time would usually require some discussion - and WP:OUTLINE is a failed/disputed-proposed policy. Per WP:BRD I have undone your recent moves, and would ask you not to carry out any more moves to "outline of" without first showing a consensus of some form. There is discussion about starting an RfC on this topic or a centralised discussion. Thanks, Verbal chat 15:32, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- I understand. I can only say that I hadn't really thought about how unilateral my actions (and potentially those of other editors) were; I believed that I was moving those pages under at least minor consensus. I should have investigated further and for that I am sorry. If I had considered the fallout these moves were to have, I probably wouldn't have done them; honestly it is against my editing philosophy to make changes before seeking consensus. On a related note, thank you for going through the work required to revert these moves. Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 15:04, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

ISS FAC4.
[edit]Hello there! As an editor who has posted a comment in one of the recent Peer Reviews, GANs or FACs of International Space Station, or who has contributed to the article recently, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind commenting in the current Featured Article Candidacy with any suggestions you have for article improvements (and being bold and making those changes), whether or not you feel any issues you have previously raised have been dealt with, and, ultimately, if you believe the article meets the Featured Article guidelines. This is the fourth FAC for this article, and it'd be great to have it pass. Many thanks in advance, Colds7ream (talk) 16:44, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive
[edit]WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hope we can see you in April. |

Cat:psychology for hidden messages
[edit]Hi! I'm cleaning up cat:psychology. As the message on the page says, articles in this category should be moved to subcategories when appropriate. Having the cat:psychology on the hidden messages template gets way too many "wrong" articles into this category. You wrote in your edit motivation that the cat can be omitted if desired. But how? I tried to remove it from the article Hidden message (it already has the cat:perception, which is a subcat of a subcat of cat:psychology), but I don't know how. Could you tell me? Lova Falk talk 18:57, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- I changed the template so that if you type {{Hidden messages|nocat=y}}, the category will be removed. See the documentation for more info, and if you disagree with the change, I can undo/modify it. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 19:05, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- P.S. Please also see your entry on the Help desk. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 19:09, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you! Now I read all your messages to me. I would appreciate it if you would remove cat:psychology for this template, because all articles on it would belong either to a subcat of cat:psychology, or not to psychology at all. Lova Falk talk 19:16, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- No problem, I'll remove all trace of Category:Psychology from the template, and remove the nocat parameter from the two articles you mentioned on the help desk. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 19:17, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for fixing it & for being so totally easy about it. Lova Falk talk 19:22, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Grab some glory, and a barnstar
[edit]Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 15:18, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Ten Commandments
[edit]Hello i was editing the Ten Commandments page and you said that i was expressing a person opinion but the page itself says the same thing
Christ simplified the Ten Commandments into two which are the moral foundation of Christianity.[1]
the page itself says later about christianity
In the New Testament, Jesus repeated some of the commandments in Matthew 19:16–19[2] and condensed them into two general commands in another:
‘“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.’
Here Jesus is quoting the Hebrew Bible, namely Deuteronomy 6:5[3] and Leviticus 19:18[4] respectively.
- To be honest, I'm not very familiar with religion or Christianity (being an atheist myself), so I don't really feel like I can decide whether this is a valid statement. Therefore, I suggest that you do the edit again, and I'll let someone else review it. Thanks for bringing this up. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 00:04, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Changing article title
[edit]I just wanted to thank you for correcting the Anthony Terlato page title and for taking the time to explain the redirect and semi-protected pages. I really don't know how I made either mistake. I'm afraid, as this was my first article, I don't have the skills to do it right or the knowledge to understand what I've done wrong. I will try to do better in the future. If you ever have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask me on this page, or via any of the other methods that I listed on your talk page.

Please understand my situation
[edit]I have been watching these Johnny Test articles for a long time, and I feel like I'm the only person concerned about the quality in these articles. It's the same problems I'm having to deal with over and over and over again with countless different people. Cruft, fake episodes, etc just over and over again. So please understand if I get frustrated, quite simply, there are more bad edits to these pages than good edits. Heavydata (talk) 02:43, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- I can indeed understand why you would get frustrated. In the interest of full disclosure, I left the note in part because the other user placed a {{helpme}} template and asked how to deal with the situation. We all have moments of frustration while editing, and it's not against the rules to be frustrated. I would simply recommend that we all try to be polite and civil, even when criticizing others' edits. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 02:48, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up
[edit]Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update. Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join! Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive. Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion
[edit]Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated. Stats
Barnstars If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks. Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed. Thank you for participating in the last 2010 backlog elimination drive! We look forward to seeing you in January! Janet Jackson
[edit]Hi, sorry about accepting that revision by the IP, I miss read the wikilink and thought they were entering her role in Nutty Professor II Pol430 talk to me 18:29, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hm, I didn't notice your accept, so you must have fixed it quickly. That being the case, no worries. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 18:35, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Merry Christmas!
[edit]The Ceremonies for Christmas
Day (Robert Herrick)
Kindle the Christmas brand, and then
Till sunset let it burn;
Which quench'd, then lay it up again
Till Christmas next return.
Part must be kept wherewith to teend
The Christmas log next year,
And where 'tis safely kept, the fiend
Can do no mischief there. If you don't celebrate Christmas ...
Happy (belated) Hanukkah! Happy Eid al-Adha! Happy Kwanzaa! And of course, Happy Festivus!
May this holiday season bring you the music of laughter, the warmth of friendship, and the steadying hand of love. ☃
Death of John Lennon
[edit]Hello, I reverted edits made by another editor that went against consensus after debate on the talk page. I should've said why, but this has been going on for a few weeks and I was just frustrated. The edits center around the unsubstantiated "fringe" opinion that Lennon's murder was part of a government conspiracy. While I included a mention of it, just for "completeness," it doesn't warrant it's own subsection which is what I reverted, which had been discussed on the talk page. So, please take a look. Thanks Hotcop2 (talk) 23:53, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- I see. In that case, I'll revert back to your version and allow discussion/editing to take its course. With all due respect, if your edit summary had included a note about acting on consensus, I wouldn't have reverted, but no worries. Happy editing! Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 00:19, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- Like I said, I was frustrated. You know, this is a particularly sensitive time of year regarding this subject. Not an excuse, just an explanation. ;-) Hotcop2 (talk) 00:24, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
reply re. picture's license tag
[edit]Thanks for reply. So, I'll leave everything as is. Having the best "tag" to help prevent a deletion, is all that matters. I inserted those living years of the illustrator or artist on the template, just in case that would help establish the right to use the image. Yes, I have no reason to believe that it does not qualify for public domain, as the calendar company has been out of business for decades. Also, thanks for explaining why that error message showed up. Jim Percy (talk) 20:35, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
PS. It does seem a little confusing. There are two different pictures on the article: Paul Martin (illustrator). One is from Wikipedia and the other from Wikimedia Commons. I uploaded both pics from my scanner, months apart. I'll have to try to figure that out later. Jim Percy (talk) 20:46, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- The one on Wikipedia probably could be moved to the Commons, but nobody has. The advantage of the Commons is that any project can use its images, whereas images stored here can only be used here. There is a multitude of images stored here that can be moved to the Commons--it's just a matter of doing it. As for why one is on Commons and one is not, that isn't clear...the page on Commons shows no indication that it was ever moved, and has you having made the upload in the first place. It's possible that you simply uploaded it to Commons without realizing. Robert Skyhawk (T C B) 20:51, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
reply no. two
[edit]Okay, that makes sense. I could have uploaded it to Commons without realizing it. I noticed that someone in the graphics lab at Commons, touched up the picture of the file: boy with pups. I never made that request, myself. So, maybe it was moved by some editor around that time. Or else I did it without realizing. Oh, well. Thanks again. Jim Percy (talk) 21:14, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
