Welcome and introduction

[edit]

Hi, Sally Summers. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person by golly! And this real person (that would be me), wants to say welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you've made an account! Thanks for joining; you're on your way to making some great contributions.

Because I've noticed you've just joined, I wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. Any questions are fine, nothing is too silly (we've heard them all). Now, the tips below - hop on them - they should help you begin editing. Best of luck! JoeSmack Talk 18:08, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yessss! You made an account! Totally sweet!
  • Anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people. Besides that, you shouldn't feel nervous or anything about a good-willed contribution. If you're concerned, talk to us.
  • When you're ready, start your first article using the Article Wizard. You don't HAVE to use it, but for your first article it really helps. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references. If you'd like more guidance, you guessed it, talk to us.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

Writing about fiction

[edit]

Hello. Welcome to Wikipedia. There is a lot of material on Wikipedia that should not be there. This is because there are more editors adding things than there are experiences ones to either remove it or clean it up. This can be very confusing to newcomers, as they wonder why their new article is not acceptable when there are so many similar ones. We have a page: WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS. Basically, articles about fiction (character articles, for instance), must have real-world context. Simply, if all that can be said about a character is just about the plot of the show, it's unacceptable. The JPStalk to me 18:10, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Sally Summers, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your edits have not conformed to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and have been reverted. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media. Always remember to provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles.

If you are stuck and looking for help, please see the guide for citing sources or come to the new contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  The JPStalk to me 18:15, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't remove cleanup tags that apply to articles, such as you did with Jack Hollins. Thanks, ThemFromSpace 18:57, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

December 2009

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add content (particularly if you change facts and figures), as you have to the article Imogen Hollins, please cite a reliable source for the content you're adding or changing. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources for information about how to cite sources and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Sally Summers! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 177 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Giles Latcham - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Patrick Burns (BBC) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

The article Giles Latcham has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Minor journalist with no third party independent sources to verify notability (No primary sources, for that matter.)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Status and Advice

[edit]

I did not delete it. It's a grade I listed building and as such notable. But when you write articles, try to give some more information than you did, and always, always, a reference. see our guide to writing Wikipedia articles. DGG ( talk ) 22:06, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Character articles

[edit]

Hi. Character articles should not just be in the form of a biography, but should have real world content, like the development of the character(which includes the casting, the thought process behind creating the character, which can be sourced from interviews), and reception of the character like sources saying things like "x is so awesome, because they do this". If a character doesn't have Development or Reception sourced by third party reliable sources, then don't bother creating articles for them, because they are not notable. See here for a list of high quality character articles. Thanks, Blake (Talk·Edits) 01:56, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comma usage

The article Marian McLoughlin has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. November 2011

[edit]

Hello and welcome! I edit Wikipedia too, under the username Excirial. Wikipedia is written by people like you and me, so thank you for taking the time to participate. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made to List of minor Doctors characters with this edit, because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions about editing, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 20:37, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add unsourced or original content, as you did with this edit to Redditch. Doing so violates Wikipedia's verifiability policy. If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 21:08, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Marina Bonnaire

[edit]

Hello, Sally Summers, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that some editors are discussing at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Marina Bonnaire whether the article Marina Bonnaire should be in Wikipedia. I encourage you to comment there if you think the article should be kept in the encyclopedia.

The deletion discussion doesn't mean you did something wrong. In fact, other editors may have useful suggestions on how you can continue editing and improving Marina Bonnaire, which I encourage you to do. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at the Help Desk.

Thanks again for your contributions! Night of the Big Wind talk 18:01, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What did you think about the deletion notice you received?

[edit]

Hi Sally Summers,

In December you received a message about either "Nomination for deletion" or "Proposed deletion" of an article you created. I'd like to ask you a few quick questions:

  1. Was the message helpful? Were the instructions clear and easy to follow?
  2. If not, how do you think the message could be improved?
  3. What do you think about the deletion process in general? Do you understand how to contest a deletion?

You can feel free to answer on my talk page or send me your response by email (mpinchuk@wikimedia.org). (I won't quote you or link your answers to your username if you don't feel comfortable with that.) Your feedback is incredibly useful for improving the content of deletion notifications, so please take a minute to think about and answer these questions. Thank you! The article Lorna Laidlaw has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Redditch may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

[edit]

Hi, I'm Sulfurboy. Sally Summers, thanks for creating Evesham Road (A441)!

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Evesham Road (A441), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bordesley (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
