Your CLA template

[edit]

You will have noticed in Cory Vitarelli that the "Team" column wasn't being displyed properly. Glancing at your template I see that it was looking for separate parameters for season1_team_link and season1_team. I have corrected it for season 1, so you'll probably want to do the same for the other seasons, or you may want to do something to the template to deal with cases where the link parameter is empty. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:06, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

World Team Tennis

[edit]

Hi Taxman1913, nice work on the World Team Tennis articles! It is an area within the tennis project that is somewhat underdeveloped so it is good that it gets more attention. Kind request, if you create new articles please add the {{WikiProject Tennis}} template, and any other templates that may apply, to the Talk page so that the articles are categorized and can be tracked by the applicable WikiProjects. Thx.--Wolbo (talk) 12:35, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

San Diego Aviators

[edit]

Hi Taxman1913, nice work on the San Diego Aviators article! I have given it a B quality rating. As you are clearly interested in the quality of your World TeamTennis articles you could consider nominating it for Good Article (GA) status. If you are interested and feel that the article meets the GA criteria you can nominate it. There is a significant backlog so it can take up to a few months to have it assessed.--Wolbo (talk) 11:09, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Wolbo: Thanks for your feedback. There is a bit more I'd like to add to that article before I would nominate it for GA status. Also, I looked at the criteria; I think it may fall short. So, hopefully there will be a point in the future when it can be nominated. But I don't think it is there yet. Taxman1913 03:42, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is this vandalism?

I'm not sure what you mean by "this"? The whole article? The fact that there were several photos of a ceiling fan in the gallery each with a different description? The removal of said gallery? I've never read that article before. So, I'm not sure why you chose to ask me. But looking at the revision history makes it clear that there has been some persistent vandalism going on there. Taxman1913 16:58, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What are you talking about? There are no ceiling fans in any images. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.170.30.57 (talk) 00:48, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There was a large number of photos of ceiling fans in the gallery that I saw in a previous revision. They are no longer there. I still have no idea what you mean by "this"? The whole article? I also have no idea why you're asking me. Taxman1913 01:03, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oakland Breakers

[edit]

Hi, came across a redlink to the Oakland Breakers in the article on Ann Kiyomura. Since you are our WTT expert perhaps your might be interested in creating an article on them? --Wolbo (talk) 21:44, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Wolbo: The Breakers along with several other defunct WTT teams for which we do not have articles are on my long-term list of things I would like to do. Unfortunately, I don't have as much time to devote to this right now as I did a few months ago. I have a lot of work to do on the 2015 WTT articles. The Breakers will be a difficult team about which to write an article, because the franchise existed during a period when the league didn't get much national news coverage. There are several defunct teams in that category. I might have been the one who put that dead link into the Ann Kiyomura article. I do recall editing the WTT section of the artcle about her. @Hugopako: Thanks. I'm aware that it doesn't currently show up. There are people warring over the parameter in that template, and there doesn't seem to be a consensus. It keeps getting added and deleted. So maybe it will show up tomorrow. I don't feel strongly either way. But since I had the information, I entered it to be all set for when the parameter returns. And if the parameter is removed from the template, even if that is permanent by consensus, it doesn't do any harm. Taxman1913 (talk) 11:31, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2018 New York Cosmos Season

[edit]

I want to thank you for defending my (our team) season article. 1) I was not aware of any arbitrary ruling on who or what sport team can have a wikipedia article. I only created it because I have been contributing heavily to the Cosmos' season articles since 2013 and wanted to continue the tradition. 2) I do not like that there is a "soccer season page" police force out there.

Once again, I want to thank you for defending the page and updating a few loose ends, that I didn't get to. I also for the life of me couldn't figure out why the info box on the stadiums wouldn't format correctly. Tychu9 (talk) 20:16, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that, thanks. They may dismiss your Bolton comment outright however. Bolton plays in the English League Championship. The Second Tier, fully professional league. No one in the Leyton Orient division or the two divisions under them have season pages. The thing that gets me is that "they" hide behind the "other things exist". Yes they do, but because they didn't notice it. My position is, that if a team and league are officially sanctioned, and there are wiki users who are willing to put together a well managed and written article, then they should be allowed to do it. Why should the events of a semi-pro or amateur season be forgotten (lord knows that the league websites don't do satisfactory job)? With articles like mine, we now will know that Penzini got x amount of goals... Tychu9 (talk) 14:46, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NPSL 2018 Season and New York Cosmos B

[edit]

Hey Taxman1913, thank you so much for your continued work on the NPSL 2018 season page. I just had a quick question regarding how you're classify the New York Cosmos B this season.

I understand this season is a bit weird when it comes to the NASL teams which are playing in the NPSL. But I've noticed that in the article, any mention of the team leads to the standard New York Cosmos (2010) article. Shouldn't it be linking to the New York Cosmos B Wikipedia entry? The Cosmos main squad isn't technically fielding a team this year, and both the NPSL website and the Cosmos own website refers to the team as "New York Cosmos B."

Additionally, if the team does win something like the national title wouldn't it go onto the B team's page? A section on the B team's entry explaining the unique circumstances this year would be easier to understand than going to the main team's article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ColeTrain4EVER (talkcontribs) 16:15, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@ColeTrain4EVER: The Cosmos NPSL squad is clearly the organization's B team. I hadn't noticed where the link was going. I copied and pasted it a few times as the need arose. The wikilinks should be changed. Taxman1913 (talk) 19:15, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha! Again, thanks for all the work. - ColeTrain4EVER (talk) 18:53, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2018 NPSL season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page New York Cosmos (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Indonesian translation help

[edit]

Greetings, are you around? I was wondering if you can check some Indonesian-to-English translations. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:09, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: I should be able to take a look at them for you. Taxman1913 (talk) 15:04, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking mainly of http://geomagz.geologi.esdm.go.id/rinjani-dari-evolusi-kaldera-hingga-geopark/ which is used as a source on 1257 Samalas eruption. There are more but I didn't know how much time you have. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:04, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: do you want me to translate the Geomagz article to English? Or do you want me to see whether the material in the Wikipedia article is supported by the source? Taxman1913 (talk) 04:56, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ideally translate whole article, yes. And if I may ask, I wonder if you could translate the pages 64-65 of https://jurnal.unimed.ac.id/2012/index.php/GDG/article/view/8564 as well as it's the other clear cut Indonesian source for the topic. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:02, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: I've completed the translation of the GeoMagz article. Since I'm far from an expert on volcanoes, this was far from easy, but I think the translation is good, and I hope it is useful to you. There are two graphics in the article that are .jpg files with a lot of text on them. The text is very small, an when it is blow up, it is very blurry. A few scattered word were simply impossible to read, but I think I ferreted out the meat of the information presented. You can see the translation at User:Taxman1913/Rinjani. Taxman1913 (talk) 07:57, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks muchly. I've applied the text with some corrections, minus the blurry images derived one. Is it possible to also translate the pages 64 and 65 of https://jurnal.unimed.ac.id/2012/index.php/GDG/article/view/8564? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:21, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: It took me roughly 10 hours to translate that article. The author used lots of jargon that was unfamiliar to me, but you only made a couple of minor edits to the article about the Samalas eruption. Was it really useful to you? I do enjoy learning new things, so this task held my interest, but if you only wanted to know about how Samalas got its name, that would have been much easier. Looking at your next request, the first section on page 64 is a preface or foreword. The second section is titled "Result and Discussion", and it continues all the way to page 68. The final brief section on page 68 is a conclusion. The title of the article indicates that it is about the evolution of a tribal dance performed by the Sasak people on Lombok. The article is from the Journal of Art and Culture. Only the foreword discusses Samalas before easing its way into the dance. Where would you like me to stop? Taxman1913 (talk) 02:40, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, yeah, I was hoping that the first article would give more information but it seems it didn't all that much. For the second article, it seems from your explanation that it doesn't say much either. So I'll retract the request. Thanks anyway. 16 team version of Template:32TeamBracket-NoSeeds

[edit]

Although you weren't the initial creator, you were the primary editor of Template:32TeamBracket-NoSeeds. I recently imported that template to use on my fan-made wiki for fictional competitions taking place in stories I'm writing. For entertainment purposes only, all credit where it is due. since part of my story takes place in a round of 16 tournament, I was wondering if you could create a 16-team version of the same template? All the other 16-team templates on Wikipedia simply aren't transportable. Again, all credit goes to you. I'm not sure how often you're on Wikipedia, so I don't expect a quick reply, but if the creation of a 16-team version of Template:32TeamBracket-NoSeeds is possible, I'd be a very happy wiki user. --SkyGuy94 (talk) 04:16, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

I admire the way you kept your cool with an editor who was either having a bad day or doesn't get the collaborative nature of Wikipedia. Instant Comma (talk) 21:09, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, @Instant Comma:. I don't think it helps to escalate the situation, when someone is being hostile. He should not have reverted my original edits, since they improved the quality of the character description in the article. It was ridiculous to say my edit was unsourced, since her identification as a landlady was also unsourced. He may believe my post on the Talk page was calling him out, but he left me no choice. It was a far better option than an edit war. While my post was lengthy, it clearly established that Phyllis was not a landlady. She is never identified as such in that fictional universe. Had she and Lars owned the building, the plot of the Phyllis spin-off series wouldn't work. Cheers. Taxman1913 (talk) 04:06, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2021–22 New York Islanders season

[edit]

Thanks for updating the player statistics. However, I should note that player statistics are updated at the end of the week (Sunday night or Monday morning) or when the team plays its last game of the week. – Sabbatino (talk) 15:32, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, @Sabbatino:. I looked at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/NHL team season pages format and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey/NHL team season pages format, but I couldn't find such a policy. If there is consensus on this, it should probably be stated in one of those two places. In any case, it seems to me that editing player statistics more frequently than weekly is harmless. Taxman1913 (talk) 18:16, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Those two pages that you linked have not been updated in years so they are a poor example, because they are outdated. Player statistics are updated once a week, because in the past we had trouble with certain editors who would edit the player statistics daily or even during the game, which caused them to add factually incorrect content. In addition, Wikipedia is not supposed to be up-to-date regarding certain topics. Furthermore, there is a longstanding consensus not to update player statistics on team season pages daily. Some editors make updates every five games, some of them (me included) make one update in a week and I am willing to follow that pattern. – Sabbatino (talk) 19:19, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sabbatino:, perhaps those pages should be updated. Otherwise there exists a secret editing policy that no one could possibly learn before doing something thought to be helpful and an improvement to the encyclopedia but frowned upon by regular and frequent contributors. In the absence of making this policy known and easily found on the ice hockey Wikiproject pages, the policy itself runs the risk of running afoul of WP:OWN, since only those "in the know" dictate how frequently updates are made. Translation

[edit]

Hello! Strange request here, but an article about me and my Wikipedia work has been promoted to Good article status at English Wikipedia and nominated for similar status at Spanish Wikipedia. I'm curious if you have any interest in translating the entry for Indonesian Wikipedia or other projects?

Figured I'd ask since your profile suggests you do translation work. Either way, happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:42, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm a bit stretched right now. Perhaps I could get to this in the late spring. Looking at the article, it has a lot of links to other article on English Wikipedia. So, the Indonesian article would contain those links, which means non-English speakers would have difficulty understanding them. I'd also need to confirm that you meet the notability standards for an article on Indonesian Wikipedia, but I expect you probably do. I'll follow up in a few months. Le Moyne men's basketball

[edit]

I have recently noticed that you have added an extremely extensive amount of information to Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball § History and then proceeded to split each detailed section into their own article, while I was looking through the new pages patrol. Instead of seperating and splitting the article and its section, you should just make individual season articles (similar to 2023–24 Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball team for each of the anchors), make a simple History of Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball article instead and remove the excessive detail in both the main article and the proceeding overall program history article. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 12:41, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@KingSkyLord: I considered doing that, but I am not convinced that each individual season is notable and merits an article on Wikipedia. Le Moyne became a Division I program in 2023, and WP:NTEAM simply refers to the general notability guidelines. it is fairly well established that an article about a Division I men's basketball team is notable given the significant coverage received. Every Division I team has an article on Wikipedia. However, it cannot be concluded from WP:NSEASONS that individual non-Division I seasons of a men's college basketball team are notable. At the bottom of that guidance, it says:

In cases in which the individual season notability is insufficient for an article, multiple seasons may be grouped together in a single article.

Faced with the challenge of a current Division I team that has a lengthy history as a Division II team, playing a large number of Division I opponents during that time, I've been developing that history in the main article. Then, faced with another challenge described at WP:SIZE, I've split the notable material from the main article into history articles of reasonable length covering multiple seasons to solve the problem and follow the advice at WP:NSEASONS. The history is notable, because it would be included in the main article, if we did not care about article size. However, a separate article about Le Moyne's 1948–49 season would have the team's complete roster and schedule (which I have), and those things are not notable. The result would be 74 separate season articles with information that doesn't meet notability criteria. Taxman1913 (talk) 13:20, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Taxman1913:: Then you should merge the 1948–1958, 1958–1960, 1960–1963, and other sections of the History subpage together into one History of Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball. The second content fork you made is about just two seasons. Please summarize and shorten those articles into that new program history page. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 13:41, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@KingSkyLord: That would be difficult to do that while the history is still being developed as is presently the case. If a target size for the summarized article were chosen, it would be impossible to determine how much space of that whole should be allocated to 1948 through 1963. A summarized article of the entire history can best be created when the entire history is available to summarize. Meanwhile, the three existing history articles and any more that will be split off from the main article can act as placeholders. Taxman1913 (talk) 14:07, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for creating History of Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball (1948–1958).

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

These are very well-constructed articles and carefully put together, but there is a tremendous amount of detail that is going to repel the casual reader, and having no real lede, is a further barrier? It is looking more like a WP:FAN article? thanks.
