Interested participants[edit]

Anyone from Pittsburgh want to meet up? Scobell302 19:59, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm all for it, so there will be at least two of us! (More information below.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lou Sander (talkcontribs)

Sure, I'd be interested. I'm also going to take this opportuntity to point you to the newly created WikiProject Pittsburgh. Happy Labor Day! --Chris Griswold () 22:59, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely. I'd have to know in advance, however, because my schedule, while not overly full, is a bit strange. RyanGerbil10(Kick 'em in the dishpan!) 02:19, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I may be interested, but I won't be around until the beginning of October. I live in Shadyside. — brighterorange (talk) 12:17, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

I would definitely be interested. I live in the North Hills. Maybe we could advertise this in craigslist or something similar, since there are lots of Wikipedians who don't put their locations online. My advice is once we get five interested people or so, just go ahead and have the first wikimeet -- don't necessarily wait until we've got a crowd. Lou Sander 13:45, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We could also try Meetup.com - there is a Wikipedia section there at [1]. There hasn't been a Pittsburgh group established yet, but anyone could do so (I have yet to figure out how much I will get billed, so I haven't done that yet). Scobell302 17:40, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If there are costs, I could help with them. Lou Sander 17:50, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here are the costs of running a Pittsburgh Wikipedia meetup group at Meetup.com (all of these are one-time payments):

  • 1 month: $19
  • 3 months: $45
  • 6 months: $72

Now, I would love to go ahead and start the group, but given the costs above, I'd rather wait until I find a job first. Scobell302 18:37, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I propose we find a few more people, then meet and take up a collection. I could be generous at that point. I just started the signup process at meetup.com. One other person is waiting for a Pittsburgh Wikipedia meetup. Do you happen to know him? Lou Sander 18:47, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's me (Yes, I have edited under other usernames; I just choose not to disclose them unless required by law). Scobell302 19:38, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
WHat are the advantages of meetup.com? Why can't this be run through WP:PGH and e-mail? --Chris Griswold () 08:01, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know...but I was signed up for New York meetups on Meetup.com until I started college. In any case, if you want to put a link to this page on WikiProject Pittsburgh, go right ahead and do so. Scobell302 18:48, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, a partial list of Wikipedians in Pittsburgh can be found at Category:Wikipedians in Pittsburgh. Scobell302 20:13, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, invite these people as you invited me. (I notice that at least one of them lives in Missouri, though he has Pittsburgh roots.) Lou Sander 00:35, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Another person has joined ship (see the front page about this subject). Scobell302 01:25, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Time & Location of first meetup[edit]

Now that we seem to have 5 interested people, perhaps we can begin discussing the time and location of the first meetup. Scobell302 01:47, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm semi-retired and live in the North Hills, so I'm probably the most flexible person. I teach a class downtown on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, though. Lou Sander 02:04, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am a first-year student at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business and my course schedule is here. I prefer to meet on a Saturday, since that seems to be the day on which I feel the least academic pressure. If I were to propose a specific calendar date, I'd probably say October 21, since that falls in the middle of my 3-day mid-semester break (and would therefore mean very little work to be done), and one person above says that he won't be available until October. Scobell302 02:54, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing: when there is an extended college break (Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Year, Spring Break, Summer Break), I will most likely return to my New York home. Scobell302 03:03, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As for the location, I think we should probably meet at a restaurant, preferably Downtown, Station Square, Waterfront, or a similar location. Scobell302 18:48, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can meet under umbrella of CLOH.org[edit]

Hi Neighbors,

I'm going to organize meetings on Thursday nights at a South Side Elementary School in a computer lab from 8 to 9:30 pm. You all could walk to another venue after to enjoy some beverages. This will be part of an effort called, CLOH.org and one meaning is "Come Live Over Here." It could give a boost to the Platform.For-Pgh.org/wiki [2] too.

Rauterkus 15:05, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be there. Let us know. Lou Sander 01:59, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the belated reply, but I've been very, very busy lately. Anyways, can you be more specific about the location, so I can determine which bus route(s) to take? Scobell302 01:27, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, once the time & location of a meetup is finalized, please post it on the front meetup page. Scobell302 01:30, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anything up?[edit]

Since I discovered this page right now, and the last post is from two months ago... is there anything going on?-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  04:00, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, maybe I should organize something. What about a MeetUp at Pitt or nearby in one of the cafes?-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  21:30, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm up for that. I live in Friendship. Coffee? Beer? Hey, did you see that article about me as a Wikipedia article in this past week's City Paper? I am bragging! --Chris Griswold () 23:27, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I dont' read the CP - do you have a link handy? :) -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  00:13, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here it is. Unfortunately, he forgot to mention WP:PGH. --Chris Griswold () 01:42, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nice :) Although you seem to have a troll that followed you there (2nd comment). -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  02:19, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Museum meetup with purpose[edit]

What about a group of Wikipedians from Pittsburgh going to one of many museums or neighbourhoods and taking photos of notable buildings (or other stuff) to expand the commons:Category:Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania? Thus we can combine a Wikipedians meetup, group tour and still contribute to Wikipedia with photos and such :) -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  01:45, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds great. --Chris Griswold () 09:25, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me too! Suggest a time and place. – Paschmitts 19:58, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Time - what about Next Saturday - 24th, 1200 (noon). Place - hmm, one of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh? Or Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall? Honestly, I don't know enough about the city to know what are good places to visit (and take photos of...).-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  20:25, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Summer meetups[edit]

Well, let's try this again: we have 40+ participants, time to make this project more lively :) I have two suggestions:

  1. evening hang-out, Fridayish, from 8 p.m., Oakland? I am not good with places though...
  2. a museum or similar trip in the early afternoon or on weekend, with cameras to fill Commons and an intent to create/expand a relevant article :)

It would be great if we could start a monthly hang-out - evening, sighsteeing, or both, regulary. What do you think?-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  23:19, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the invite; I'd have to wait until I'm back in town, though. Squamate 00:29, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a great idea to me, except for I probably wouldn't be able to make many due to very, very busy schedules. There are many destinations in Oakland that could be potential hang-outs. --Weatherman1126 (talk) 00:50, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Even though the chances of me being able to attend such an event are very small, the best place for such a thing would be Oakland. So.... yeah. Alekjds talk 01:42, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Evening hang-out[edit]

Sign below if you are interested, note your preferred time and place

Choice A: Kiva Han, Craig/Forbes, 7p some Friday. Choice B: Cathedral of Learning, same day/time. Note: On last Friday of a month at 6p, Critical Mass (zillion bicyclists) meet at dinosaur, ride around town, and are done 7ish. I plan to be one of them. Anyway, I prefer coffee to beer, but will go with the flow. Typofixer76 04:49, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm interested in both hanging out and sightseeing, anywhere in Oakland is good. Times can be hit or miss, depending-- but if someone sets a time/date I'll try my best to be there :D Cln23 03:43, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revitalizing interest?[edit]

I'll be in Pittsburgh from this weekend until May, and a meetup might be a good way to get my mind off the irritatingly complex work I signed up for there. I see this page is pretty dormant but perhaps we should revitalize it. Andre (talk) 00:59, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Count me in.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 05:33, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Loves Art in Piitsburgh[edit]

Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art is coming to the Carnegie Museum of Art Pittsburgh this Sunday, 1-2 PM. See details.--Pharos (talk) 21:02, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea! I'll be there! Who else? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:15, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to make it. It's a little short notice for me to drum up support at CMU, had I known about the date last week I could have hung up posters in Wean Hall. Andre (talk) 14:29, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm ... guess I missed that one - oh well, I'll watchlist the page to see if Pgh. has another go at it. Feel free to drop me a TP note if something gets going on this. — Ched :  Yes?   : ©  12:51, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Let's have a meetup soon[edit]

We should have a meetup, say, in late June or early July. I just moved here, and I'm excited to meet some of the local Wikipedians. Any suggestions for a date and a place? (My house in Shaler is a possibility, although something in the city would probably be better for most people.)--ragesoss (talk) 23:15, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Update: we are planning something for late August, most likely Sunday, 22 August 2010, on or near the University of Pittsburgh campus, in the afternoon. More details to follow soon, you can sign for the event at Wikipedia:Meetup/Pittsburgh. PS. When we have a date and place posted, I suggest notifying members of Wikipedia:WikiProject University of Pittsburgh and Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh, as well as editors in the following categories: Category:Wikipedian Pittsburgh Panthers fans, Category:WikiProject University of Pittsburgh participants, Category:WikiProject Pittsburgh members, Category:Wikipedians in Pittsburgh and Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: University of Pittsburgh. We could probably use the User:MessageDeliveryBot for that, and perhaps even make the invitation a part of a newsletter (it doesn't have to be large, see the WP:SOCIO newsletters for example) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:27, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

22 Aug Meetup[edit]

I'm interested, but my fiancee will be moving into town on the 23rd, and I'm not sure yet what coordination I may need to help with on the 22nd. I'll make a decision later. —Bill Price (nyb) 01:28, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will be there. bpage (talk) 21:59, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The 22 Aug 2010 Meetup is ON, with a handful of attendees already. Folks watching this page should look at Wikipedia:Meetup/Pittsburgh. If you can or might come, please register there. --Lou Sander (talk) 10:44, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I had a great time, looking forward to doing it again. Jeepday (talk) 23:24, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

October meetup[edit]

Glad so many people made it! Let's start talking about the October meetup :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 23:59, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good—Sorry I couldn't make it to this one. I'm a grad student at Pitt, and Fuel & Fuddle is one of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat, so I ought to have no excuses in the future. :) —Bill Price (nyb) 00:47, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So how about we plan something for Sunday the 17th Oct? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 18:24, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I put up the geonotice for the 17th. We should figure out where and when to meet. As a default, I suggested Fuel & Fuddle at 3pm again.--ragesoss (talk) 13:14, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Works for me. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 15:15, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

December meetup[edit]

I am sorry I missed the October one, just caught the cold that weekend. How about we start planning something for December? 7th and maybe the 13th could work for me. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:49, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delayed response... the 7th and the 13th would probably work for me in the evening, but why not a weekend?--ragesoss (talk) 23:58, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. A Saturday is ideal for us. --Geniac (talk) 00:32, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Weekend days work best for me. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 11:41, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's short notice, but I propose next Saturday, December 11. This time I'll do some talk page spamming, and see if we can get in touch with the free culture group that is organizing a Wikipedia 10th anniversary celebration so they can join us (see next section) and maybe plan for how to make that fun and well-attended.--ragesoss (talk) 13:03, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I can do Dec 11. I have commitment that finishes about 4:00 downtown, should be able to attend immediately following. Jeepday (talk) 13:15, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

January meetup (Wikipedia 10 party)[edit]

I thought I should point you folks to http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh,_PA which is being organized by one of your friendly local Pittsburgh Free Culture people.--Pharos (talk) 06:36, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Possible activities/events related to content-building before the 5pm celebration[edit]

  • Meet at a library with internet access and write an article (or two) from scratch as a group. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 11:58, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Bring your best photos of your favorite places in Pittsburgh, and we'll upload them and add them to Wikipedia articles. Then at the saloon or the end of the earlier activities, we can vote on the best ones and give some prizes.--ragesoss (talk) 13:13, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ride from Oakland?[edit]

Anybody driving through Oakland? In summer I'd just walk there, considering the winter, I wouldn't say not to a ride... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 00:18, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Next meetup: first or second weekend of February?[edit]

How about Saturday the 5th February? Or Sunday the 13th? Just brainstorming some dates... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:30, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can't do the weekend of the 19th, but otherwise any day is good. The 5th might be a bit close to the last one though. Shell babelfish 22:30, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Saturday the 12th or Sunday the 13th should be good for me.--ragesoss (talk) 01:03, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'd prefer the Sun 13th, as Sat 12th is no good for me. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 06:10, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, let's do Sunday, 13 February! Where should we meet? The old stand-by Fuel & Fuddle, or somewhere more adventurous?--ragesoss (talk) 16:59, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'll let you guys pick since my suggestions would be based on random guessing :) Somewhere that has parking would be awesome though (although from my visits, that does seem a bit hard to come by at times). Shell babelfish 21:59, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps this will be helpful? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 02:27, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Next meeting: April (canceled)[edit]

How about we try to plan for next meeting in April? Sunday the 10th or Sunday the 24th, perhaps? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 18:16, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am canceling this idea due to apparent lack of interest. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:13, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Next meeting: May[edit]

OK then... May the 15th (Sunday)? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:35, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That works for me. I'll set up a geonotice 10 days ahead, do another round of spamming talk pages of users connected to Pittsburgh.--ragesoss (talk) 17:30, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am doing my test on Thursday so I should be *able* to come :) --Guerillero | My Talk 17:32, 18 April 2011 (UTC) I got my license and this is the week before my prom. Its still a possibility. --Guerillero | My Talk 03:12, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Potentially can attend. Where and when? JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 10:22, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
May 15th. Can we do it earlier then usual, time wise? I may be busy from 2pm onwards... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:32, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. I tentatively set it for noon. Where should we do this? I'd prefer somewhere new. Maybe somewhere we can get food and then hang out outside, if the weather is good.--ragesoss (talk) 01:06, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Outside is a tad of a problem, I don't recall most places here having outdoor terraces or such. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 04:41, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to come. It won't be the first one I've missed, though. The spirit has been willing, but the flesh has been weak. Lou Sander (talk) 23:45, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As There is no location announced, and the marathon in tomorrow, I am assuming we will not be meeting. Jeepday (talk) 17:28, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I just found out about the marathon yesterday, and apparently it will make it extremely difficult to get around town. Let's reschedule. Maybe a weekday, or in the evening sometime next weekend?--ragesoss (talk) 18:15, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to check about the location. Marathon is a good point. Next weekend, Sunday seems good, around noon again for me. Location: if people like asian, and Sage wanted something different for a location, how about Lu Lu's Noodles on Craig? They often have space in the back that could host our little groups (although I've never been there round lunchtime...). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 04:41, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Lu Lu's sounds okay to me. Afterwards, I'll probably be heading to the Pittsburgh Bonsai Society's annual show, in case anyone wants to join me.--ragesoss (talk) 14:06, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

June Wiknic in Pittsburgh?[edit]

We have also been invited to take part in the Wikipedia:Wiknic (tentative Pittsburgh location, Schenley Park, 25 June). This may involve media and city's officials - and I would really hate to be there alone :D It would be really helpful to have a May meetup to hash out Wiknic details (and correspondingly, I'd hate to commit myself/us to Wiknic if we cannot even hold a single meetup before it). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:13, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Let's do this!--ragesoss (talk) 17:30, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Keep in mind that getting a shelter actually costs $ and requires somebody to do something before the date (http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/pw/html/shelters.html) :) I wonder if WMF would sponsor renting a shelter? Is it worth for the ~4 or so people who seem interested so far? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:31, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I could see if I can round up a few WikiFur editors. But really, you guys should ditch the park and come visit us at Anthrocon at the convention center. Just $25 for a one-day membership! ;-) GreenReaper (talk) 20:25, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The Commons adjacent to the Oakland Carnegie Library is a great idea. One of those little joints on the commons has great Chinese Bubble Tea. Is it pot luck? Botendaddy 00:18, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, you mean the space between the Hillman Library and the Oakland Carnegie Library? That's a good idea. I don't know if it's an official pot luck, but I'll try to bring some Polish treats for everyone :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 03:02, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The description at Wikipedia:Wiknic is for a bring your own lunch, as we are a few tens of hours from the event without a potluck plan. I am going to update the plan with a bring your own lunch theme. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 10:41, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • After the Wiknic I will be attending a bunny romp [3] at the local shelter, it is social and exercise event for House rabbits who are awaiting their forever home. The public is encouraged to attend. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 10:55, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Next meeting: August or September?[edit]

The Wiknic was quite a success, thanks to everyone who attended. How about we start planning for the next event early? Would you prefer it in 2 months (August) or 3 (September)? I believe that weekend (Sat or Sunday) and the same location would work, the whether should still be good enough. Also, if you haven't, please consider adding your name to Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh members and watchlisting that page, it seems like the best suitied one to transform our real life gatherings into on wiki cooperation. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:17, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

One common way of scheduling repetitive meetings is to hold them on the "nth (name of day) of each month." That way people can plan ahead, and it is easy to find the date just by looking at any calendar. Perhaps we could have our meetings on the fourth Saturday of each month. Lou Sander (talk) 17:58, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As we are thinking outside, I would say August (or July?), and I like Lou's idea of regular monthly, so you can plan ahead. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 16:04, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, how about Saturday the 3rd of September? Same place, noon? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:31, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me, but that is Labor Day weekend, and people might have other things to do then. Lou Sander (talk) 22:50, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would not be able to attend on Sept 3rd. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 10:43, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot do the 10th, 11th nor the 17th. How about Sunday the 4th or the 18th? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 16:11, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU (Aug 15)[edit]

While it is not a meetup per se, note the Teaching with Wikipedia workshop we will have at CMU on Aug 15. There will be one at Pitt in the Fall as well (date TBA). • I would be interested in participating. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 10:47, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • It would require just getting in contact with a local library, reserving a meeting room, and encouraging the participation of as many librarians and Wikipedians as possible.--Pharos (talk) 19:24, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Monroeville Library[edit]

I spoke to the Mark and Marlene at Monroeville today, both were very interested in a program at the Library. Tentative Schedule would be a Tuesday or Wednesday evening 7ish to 8:45, Maybe October 18 or 19. Tentative program talk about Wikipedia and how to edit it, live presentation with a projector and laptop. The library (and Wikipedia) will actively advertise the program. Monroeville Library has computers but not a computer lab, computers are first come first serve. Possibly we could do something like the "face of Wikipedia" as a class on the Tuesday and an Edit-a-thon on the Wednesday. Jeepday (talk) 23:01, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good news. If somebody would be going through Oakland, and could give me a ride to and back, I could probably help (but the sooner we pick the date, the sooner I can free my schedule). I'll try to push things with the Oakland library soon. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 16:07, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would not be a candidate for giving a ride (already here). I looked at Wikipedia Loves Libraries for a meeting plan, at found lots of questions on what should happen. So I posted my plan at Monroeville, Pennsylvania; Model, Wikipedia Loves Libraries, given the wider audience that is probably where I will continue to work on it. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 16:33, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Non-Wiki life commitments are interfering with my plan and set-up of this event. Other then my efforts nothing else seems to be going into it. Currently highly likely I will, be cancelling the event. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 14:39, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
:( Is there anything I could do to help with it? What is left to do in terms of making the Monroeville event happen? --ragesoss (talk) 14:45, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We have library acceptance of an event. Mark is the primary contact 412-372-0500x13. My plan as it stands is Monroeville, Pennsylvania; Model, Wikipedia Loves Libraries. Other then that nothing is done, my plan is a draft/idea I would be happy to follow any other agenda that might be offered.
  • Need to confirm a date and set up for the room with the library (weekday evening is suggested by Mark)
  • Work out technical connect issues, I don't have laptop, but library has a projector and laptop if needed (a Wikipedian laptop might be a better choice if available).
  • Create and publish marketing materials for display at the library to encourage library user attendance. More lead time, will improve attendance.
Jeepday (talk) 11:47, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oct 2011 Event Cancelled, will try again for a Spring 2012 event. Jeepday (talk) 09:59, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

December 2011 meetup[edit]

Hi guys. I'm visiting Pittsburgh for Christmas and I hope I can meet some of you guys if you're planning a December meetup. My Christmas break though is only between December 22 and January 1 (maybe 2), so I hope to drop by when I get there. It's been a while since I've last been to Pittsburgh, and I hope that I can finally meet some local Wikipedians! :) --Sky Harbor (talk) 09:03, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We can certainly plan something for that time, although I won't be here in that time frame. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 17:03, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully whatever plans come floating do come to fruition. I joined Wikipedia back when I was still living in Sewickley (family has since moved to Mt. Lebanon) and it's a travesty I haven't met Pittsburgh-area Wikipedians yet. :P --Sky Harbor (talk) 01:38, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at Pitt (Oct 21)[edit]

Interested editors are welcome to attent a teaching with Wikipedia workshop I am holding at noon at the Pitt's department of sociology. More info: [4] --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 15:15, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

End of March meetup[edit]

Hey guys, I'd like to propose a new meetup. How about noon, Sat the 31st, Fuel and Fuddle in Oakland? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 02:36, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Life is pretty hectic for the next couple of months, I would be a show up if I can, no commitments. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 11:26, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'll come whenever and wherever it is held, provided I don't forget. ;-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lou Sander (talkcontribs)
  • drop a note on my talk a couple days before, and I'll try to show - no promises .. but will try .. might be nice to actually meet another wikipedian in person. — Ched :  ?  16:15, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have another reason for visiting Pittsburgh sometime in the Spring, and making it the end of March might let me attend this one as well. Jim.henderson (talk) 13:02, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Would love to come but won't be around :( --Best, Weatherman1126 (talk) 17:34, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have made my reservation and will be in town regardless of whether anyone else wants to show up. Look for me at Noon Saturday in my orange cap and (probable) blue Wikipedia shirt. Jim.henderson (talk) 14:45, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • So we had a pleasant time, Piotrus and me, talking about photography and ourselves, Pittsburgh geography (I was slightly late due to getting lost while walking from Heinz Field) and miscellaneous other topics Wikirelevant and not. I worked hard at inspiring jealosy for our relatively large and active New York Chapter. After lunch he showed me a few local sights; and especially clued me into some local history. He had an appointment and I wandered alone in Squirrel Hill for so long, there was no time to visit the Cathedral. Had to take a bus downtown, get lost while shopping, and find where the bus goes back to Mt Lebanon in time for dinner with kinfolks. I expect to stay in the south hills with them until Monday afternoon when I take the big bus back to NYC. Thanks you. Jim.henderson (talk) 11:04, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We'd like to invite representative(s) from the group who have some experience in organizing the local meetups, to join the Wikimedians Active in Local Regions of the United States (WALRUS) committee, our monthly IRC meetings, and the associated wikimediaus-l mailing list, to help advance real-life Wikimedian activities in the US, including Wiki Loves Monuments photography in September and Wikipedia Loves Libraries meetups in October/November.--Pharos (talk) 16:57, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please consider helping out, WALRUS does a lot of cool stuff! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 17:41, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Any luck at the Wiknic?[edit]

If not, maybe you need a more precise time/location next time. Here's to future and greater Pitts wiki-meetups!--Pharos (talk) 19:20, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Spring 2013[edit]

Saturday April 27 is a bit early for me to be leaving New York and getting around a town I still know little. I'll be just a few days out of my cast (if the X-ray says OK) and not yet up to full physical power. Couple weeks later would be better. But it's not unworkable. As usual I'll be staying in Mt Leb, and someplace along the T line would be easiest but the best place on the track is Downtown Pittsburgh. Jim.henderson (talk) 12:14, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Spring 2014[edit]

Looks like it is about that time again. I just got Pinged that Sunday July 6 is the national day. I have an afternoon commitment on Saturday July 5, but could do a lunch that day. Anyone have any thoughts on getting together? JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 18:09, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just put up a link on the national Wiknic page to this talk page section, saying "under discussion". It would be great if you could update the front side of this page whenever there are preliminary details to date and location.--Pharos (talk) 19:24, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I would certainly be interested in attending. I've been to two of these so far, and they are well worth the effort to attend. I like the place we went before, by the carousel across from Hillman Library. Lou Sander (talk) 20:50, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We have had a major to us event in our family. I can't commit to being able to organize or attend. These events are fun, I would encourage anyone feeling the slightest motivation to organize, do so. Jeepday (talk) 10:45, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm up for Satuday at lunchtime, or Sunday. This'll be my last to chance to see you folks for a Pittsburgh meetup, as I'm moving to Seattle at the end of July.--ragesoss (talk) 13:38, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Time to update the front side with provisional date and location, then?--Pharos (talk) 04:24, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Alas, I'll miss the chance as my only visit to Pittsburgh before late summer will be June 22-23. Jim.henderson (talk) 19:55, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I will be in Pittsburgh around this time (going home and visiting family), and I would definitely love to meet up with some local Wikipedians from the city where I found Wikipedia! :D --Sky Harbor (talk) 04:03, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Looks like there's no perfect time for everyone, but let's go with early on Saturday since that works for JeepDay. Say... 11 am on Saturday, July 5, with lunch at noon. As usual, we'll meet under the tent in Schenley Park in front of the Cathedral of Learning. (It's right next to Conflict Kitchen, which is a neat place to get lunch from.)--ragesoss (talk) 18:49, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ping - for anyone watching, don't forget we are meeting up very soon.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeepday (talkcontribs) 09:27, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This May?[edit]

I'm tentatively planning to visit Pittsburgh for a few days in the middle of the month. Is anything planned or likely? Or late May or early June? Jim.henderson (talk) 18:07, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at Carnegie Library in Oakland Pittsburgh March 28![edit]

Hello! I'm not sure how active this community is at present, but I wanted to see if any local Wikipedians would be interested in participating in an upcoming Wikipedia Edit-a-thon being organized by Women+ in Design PGH.

If you are interested in participating or potentially helping guide volunteers at the event, please email us at womenindesignpgh@gmail.com. We appreciate any advice or tips you may be able to offer.

Here's a little more information about the event (which you can also find at our website):

Please join Women+ in Design Pittsburgh as we welcome Despina Stratigakos, author of "Where Are the Women Architects?," and Lori Brown, founder of ArchiteXX, a group dedicated to transforming the architecture profession for women, to Pittsburgh.

In partnership with students and faculty at the University of Pittsburgh, we will be adding and expanding entries for women designers across industries including architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, graphic design, and engineering to the online resource.

No prior Wikipedia editing experience is necessary, lists of female designers will be provided, and additional entry ideas are welcome. Computers will be available, but you may bring your own laptop. Tutorials for beginner Wikipedians will begin at 10 am, and you are free to come and go as you wish throughout the event. Breakfast will be provided.

People of all genders and professions are encouraged to attend as we increase the visibility and representation of women designers.

This event is supported in part by funding from Pitt Creates Year of Creativity.
