Cleanup/merge targets

[edit]

I've been going through the current Halo articles, and I've been thinking about additional merges and content folding based on the states of articles and available sourcing. Some of these need to get a proper merge discussion involved, but I wanted to run things up the flagpole here first.

  • Halo Online-->Halo (franchise)#Cancelled projects—This stuff can get summarized and supplement the main section; I've been working on cleaning this stuff out with summary style so there's plenty of room.
  • Red vs. Blue (season 3) (and all other season articles) --> List of Red vs. Blue episodes—what's in these articles is basically a paragraph of (usually unsourced) production info and then just longer versions of the episode listings with more plot summaries. I think this stuff could and should get folded into the list and main article, as there's really no reliable sources talking about critical reception for these seasons to suggest standalone notability.
  • Blood Gulch-->This feels like another case of "technically might be notable enough", but not really worth mentioning outside of the reception of CE.
  • Halo Championship Series and various esports stuff-->I think a Halo eSports or whatever catch-all article is probably best for this, since there's a ton of history and I don't think individual championships are generally notable.

(As an update, I've started merge discussions at Halo (franchise) and List of Red vs. Blue episodes. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 16:47, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(Further update: Merge of all the RvB seasons into the main list is complete.) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 17:19, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Might be a good time to re-merge the Red Versus Blue episodes articles back into one article. Looks like there are three, there should be one. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:48, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to ask for some feedback from the TV WP about the lists, since my thinking is that if all they contain are plot summaries, the list of eps should just be collapsed down to names and release dates since there's no way there's reliable recaps and after this many seasons the plot is going to be largely too byzantine to understand. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 14:46, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In my ideal world, they would all be gone except the Red vs Blue article, I doubt the other articles have enough reception to justify independent articles. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 01:30, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We will have to see. The main article needs a lot of improvement, so it might be best to work on that and then see where the sources lead in terms of justifying the spinout articles. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 03:01, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everyone! I've just created a draft for the Noble Team. Any help would be greatly appreciated! The Optimistic One (talk) 18:06, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Optimistic One, late to the party here, but I don't think Noble Team meets Wikipedia's threshold for inclusion as a notable subject in its own right, versus the games. Outside of Reach, they're barely mentioned in other Halo media, let alone significantly by secondary sources. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 19:00, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Reassessing WP:HALO assessments

[edit]

I haven't really done anything about it, but I've noticed for a while our assessment ratings for top/high/mid/low importance don't seem to make a ton of sense. Lots of related articles have different assessment levels for no discernible reason. I was thinking of trying to organize it a bit more logically, to me, a la:

Thoughts? Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 21:00, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds good, does well to go from the center outwards in terms of importance. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:45, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've done a rough pass on reassessments—leaves us with 5 top, 11 high, 14 mid, and 40 low, which seems roughly right to my eyes. Finessing and quibbling is of course welcome. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 12:04, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Heads up for 2023

[edit]

Been putting off some Halo work for a while. Planning on getting most or some of these done in the new year:

Project-independent quality assessments

[edit]

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Paris Class Frigate

[edit]

I have made a short draft for the Paris Class frigate, but help from the more experienced is probably going to be necessary for it to be completed in a presentable state, with that said, I was also wondering if its a good idea to add an article about the Paris Class Frigate, Link:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:UshankaWasTaken/Paris-Class_Heavy_Frigate_(Halo) This is my first article, and I have only been able to work on it for a short period of time, so there will be mistakes. UshankaWasTaken (talk) 15:03, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey UshankaWasTaken, Wikipedia articles require topics be covered significantly by secondary sources. So for the Paris-class ship to have a standalone article you'd need to find sources from outlets like the New York Times or IGN covering or featuring those ships heavily. That's a high bar to clear, and it's the reason we don't have any standalone articles on Halo vessels on Wikipedia. Coverage of that sort is best done on the Halo wiki which has much more inclusive coverage standards. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 16:15, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your responce UshankaWasTaken (talk) 18:21, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
