Peru Barnstar
I was bored, and decided to sort through the regional WikiProjects to see who had some nice imagery that I could use for a barnstar. So, I present you with the Peru Barnstar. Enjoy! EVula // talk // ☯ // 04:55, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Piura Region logo.png
Image:Piura Region logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Addition to peru project banner? Done

- Nice, just a couple of points though. We also need and A-class assesment department so that the articles that go through peer review and are substantially improved can then be nominated for A-cass status. Check for instance Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/A-class review. Also, the page should have a list of members of the wikiproject willing to review articles, so that we know how many people we can count on. --Victor12 10:38, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Good point, Victor12, we need to group or even better regroup, and organized. Lets us finishing with the Map, without saying that we should continue with Anders Peer review initiative.

Infobox for peruvian districts
There's nothing using {{Infobox Peru district}}. Is it needed? Andy Mabbett 19:40, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Improving Motivation & Participation
RE: ABOUT THE COLLABORATION EFFORTS on WIKIPROJECT PERU
- Perhaps, we don't want "all this" even to be remembered, like "sharing" a little tiny secret among us, whispering through the IRC channels, our recondite Wiki-Manifestos: "We should only write, the "history" and "all this" as we want or pretend everybody to remember it." Now, E. Galeano would have opened his own veins; What do you think? It is a Welcoming to the new digital-dark ages. Go ahead make boxes and more boxes and divide and subdivide the already sectioned Peruvian efforts evenly so, do it infinitesimally in every sentence of it. Make and put banners and re-template adorning all WikiPages; then we can make a Wiki social calculus out of it or an unthinkable "chupe of messages". Even better do it in your own. It this positive?
- You might excuse my stupidity, the fact that I am only quasi-human and my IQ compare with yours is about between a mongoloid and Australopithecus in average, however with these, my stolid eyes, only I observe lack of participation in here, so many Peruvians are better off doing their own thing in Wikipedia, how can we improve people's participation in an organized way? I am not writing for/about other people, they just won't tell you, well, on the contrary, and it is a matter of fact they do it indirectly, see their comments in some pages. For instance, the Chileans are more than willing to fill the wholes for us, well just some holes, like describing "La papa a la huancaina" as original from the Chile cuisine, not kidding! (of course you remember el Pisco and el suspiro Limeño cases). Like our farmers used to say in Parobamba (ahísito puis): "More attention, porfavirization!". In addition some Military support system aids and attaches assistants, also are very, but very interested in assisting us, what do you think, it is their jobs we are writing about! well if you can call, that an "assistance" altogether.
- While we are creating so many sub-sub-infra-nano-retro-projects with so few of us in here, they are helping us, assiduously, to put their names and wills in pages that somehow are describing, no precisely the best of Peru, but focusing in some realities that might not be that relevant for the general public. Hope one day you would think about "all this" I am inviting you to watch Laura de América, ah? Should we document all her TV cases or shows in Wikipedia too, Oh! you should see how our "Vecinos" laugh about, that infamous line "...pero Señorita Lauraaaa." Do you too? Se siente, se siente ....? Peru stub deletion proposal
Hi, someone proposed at Ca:Peru_archaeology_stubs to delete a Peru related stub --Andersmusician $ 20:27, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Considering the important role of pre-columbian civilisations in peru and therefore the archaeological sites in present-day peru i think we should work on this subject more. After creating the template for navigating between sites {{Archaeological sites in Peru}} i think we also need an Infobox. This being out of my league, i created just a very basic version. The Infobox needs to be extended and we need to ask help from the wikiproject Archaelogy because it's within their scope. Any ideas on how to proceed (if at all)? Eric Bronder 18:43, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- good idea, I looked through Template:Infobox Protected area at Mission San Luis de Apalachee, it could be useful that kind of locator map instead of making dozens of maps per site. --Andersmusician $ 20:08, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well there's already an infobox {{Archaeological site}} but yours looks better. It would be useful to add a couple of things such as coordinates and the region in which each site is located (Cuzco, Lima, etc.). Also, there's already an {{Infobox World Heritage Site}}, which would apply to Machu Picchu for example. --Victor12 20:16, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Erick a Wikipedian does not have leagues, it is a generalist with bold guts by choice. I am altogether with you in this one, I will need to recheck your infobox but remember, however the content is the prime objective. Please, let us continue with the labels and size of the Blue map. We really need to see it finished, I think you ought to change those labels, as they are currently, either work for me at all, just to remind you, I will go to the maps task force page. More importantly see below. thanks.
NB. This study, part of Anthropology, can be written in English as follows: Archaeology, archeology, or archæology, all of them are fine. This branch, put us back to the map task force page. We need location maps for some sites. -"-Todos Llegan de Noche, todos se van de día" 21:36, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
{{Archaeological site}} seems to be for greece specially. I added the above mentioned parameters, take a look again. Indeed for Machu Picchu and Chan Chan i think it will be somewhat of an overkill because they contain infobox for World Heritage site already. After that i will concentrate on the map project again Eric Bronder 21:39, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Hey! Read what they are already doing and how they are taking the right track, in [here] and let me thank you for letting us know what you are doing by yourself with some of our treasured archaeological sites. We feel so thankful to have you here with us doing all those things alone, it must be hard and you with all that energy and without breaks... I mean thank you. Every thing that you want you would do. Please continue. John Manuel-"-Todos Llegan de Noche, todos se van de día" 00:24, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Are you gonna use the blue map of the regions of Peru? Maybe it would be better to use a map without modern administrative divisions. Check out {{Egyptian Location}} which is used by Wikipedia:WikiProject Ancient Egypt. I'd suggest using a topographical map, for instance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Map_of_Peru_Demis.png. --Victor12 22:12, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Also, it should read civiliZation instead of civiliSation. --Victor12 03:53, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Changed it. Shows i'm european, using british english. Eric Bronder 04:28, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Of course, just nittpicking to avoid a redirect... Greetings, --Victor12 04:40, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Excuse me, My lord: The lords are in Europe, the servers are in USA. American English please. Thank you John Manuel
This {{Infobox Archaeological Site Peru}} is the first version i introduced, based on the recent changes made to {{Infobox District Peru}} and already used on pages like Caral, Tambo Colorado and Pikillacta. ErickAgain 22:03, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- With a mainly green map, maybe it should not be a green infobox. Otherwise, looks great. --Victor12 22:11, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

RE: FIRST THINGS FIRST-WE NEED TO ORGANIZE by the way, do you remember Joe hill?
It seems that there are few souls that are interested in translating the bible in Quechua or Aymara, as evenly fewer ones that are interested in doing so with the Peruvian constitution, I am not blaming them, if there were parties in that effort well they should do that effort, we need more dynamism:
- 1. Identify those who are inactive, i.e., are not editing, for example there are 42 registered users for this Wikiproject, and so far in less that two months, I saw only four that are somehow actively involved. As much as you are the fantastic four, is part of the project to invite people to cooperate with the Project. Imagine Wikipedia with Jimbo, now without Larry, alone by himself. He wouldn't achieve a thing or two. We need people. It is time to ask: I am in this project now, how can we do to make it more exciting so more people would state and work and help us to determine what is the best way to go. Heretofore, we identify and then create a list of inactive people under the following rationale:
- 'This list includes those members of the project who have not edited for at least three months; it is manually updated on a periodic basis. If your name has been moved here, please feel free to move it back to the active members section upon your return.
- Therefore, I would like somebody to do this in the project page, again lets identified those who are not editing first. How:
- I will Check the first 12, and you can each identify 10, we then report back to this page and then we create the list, what happen if most or everybody are collaborating? Then, we are at the second stage:
- 2 Why if they are subscribed to the project, suddenly, they do not come and pass for this page or other? Well, there are several answers, you may want to answer this, the fact remain you need consensus, and I see so many people trying to do what they think is fine; in reality this defeats the purpose of having a Wikiproject Peru, since we can do our contributions individually, correct? If you want officialism, fame or power, then you need people anyway, so they can give it to you, otherwise work by and for yourself. In here, we are working together in this Wikiproject and in the Wikimedia at large. GFDL under the spirit of the GPL, following the precept of the Bazaar and not of the Catedral, Eric Raymond. This is the algorithm:
- a).- Create an outreach Peruvian Newsletter: chose its name "The Peruwikian" or something like that or better.
- b).- Create a banner inviting people so as can be posted in their user and talk pages and will be served as a reminder of our project's objectives and collaborative efforts.
- c).- Create a note of invitation, packaged nicely so it can be easily trasncluded by ourselves and others as well.
That is it for now, I will wait for your feedback, but "all this" needs to be done.
PD. Let me remind you that I might share one thing and only one thing with all of you, that we are subscribed in this Wikiproject Peru. It is altogehter a good thing. If you were busy doing your own thing, it is fine for me, notwithstanding, in a boldly and with sincere good faith, as all along, it has clearly written and documented, what we need to achieve for our project, more hands, more brains, more participation. That is the first priority. We will proceed and in few months more people will share with us this noble mission, but only because they really would want it to do so. I am sure of this. It is a guideline for nurturing collaboration and so breeding the best of us. Lets just do it, It will be very fun, or you prefer to do "all this" by yourself, and without an army of colleagues, Come on! Lets move it, move it! you also can shake it! and shake it!.

Participation Drive
For example the activity of Viajero, an administrator, shows his inactivity in our Wikiproject, this number reflect his contributions within the span of three months:
WikiProjectActivity | UserTalk=17 | WikiProject=0 | Mainspace=1 | Activity=A
- White-left = 17 ► His talk page has 17 summaries.
- Red-Top = 0 ► no contributions to the Wikiproject Peru page or subpages, or participation within the discussions
- White-Right = 1 ► In the " else mainspace" he has one summary.
- Red-bottom =
A► Means this user can't not be considered active for our Wikiproject Peru space.
- Like with this user, I will continue with the rest of our members, then I will inform you, anyone would like to help? Anders is working in the Newsletter. There is not rush, but I am traveling and when I do that I will use my time elsewhere. Well, thank you for your dialogs, and I am waiting for your questions. - Thank you for letting me know about it. He is the first in the list and for being the first and for the kind words that you have used for describing him, I motion that he would not be moved to the list of inactive participants. What do you think? I am doing this as to improve participation. We are doing this too in the Wikipedia: WikiProject Scotland take a look. It is all about statistics no hard feeling, and can you help? thanks. -"-Todos Llegan de Noche, todos se van de día" 18:55, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Tell me how i can help! Eric Bronder 22:01, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- We need to create an list of users that are not active, this can simply done. If a user have been inactive for more than 3 months, this user will have to belong to the inactive list. I will tell you how the template works, see bellow for the instructions. Later, you can built another template that includes this "squares" in our invitation to our inner projects. You can start at the end, I am at the beginning, we probably will find each other at the middle. Thanks, John Manuel -23:47, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

- I don't think you should move any user to a separate list of "inactive users". We want people to think we are a large project to give them an incentive to join. If we reduce the list to involve only those who are active it will hurt recruitment of new users.--Jersey Devil 00:35, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your thinking, it seems plausible but for all the matter, it is worth the risk, What are you going to lose? Lets try this, you will never know for sure, follow me this time. You always can comeback as it was used to be, I promise. However, if more people will come here you will have to work harder, but we will have more hands to work with, the trick is in doing it together. Sorry, but I strongly disagree with you, sometimes it happens. Honesty is still the best policy. Secondly, we need to know with whom we are counting on and for what, so we need start counting. Remember they can always reinsert themselves in the list of active members, can you help? and if you don't, then do not interfere and if you do then fine, I will follow the consensus but this will be archived for later. There is not incentive to join to a group because there is a bunch of people, most of us Peruvians we do things because we feel in doing so we are doing the right think. You got your turn, it has come the time to let others to have theirs. Once a Peruvian knows that there are Peruvians doing something about Peru, they will come. It won't be easy, because we often not precisely share the same views, but we can handle it and the whole point is participation not ostentation. Now, I appreciated your input but I would like to see better results so far, I see all the contrary, if you prefer we create a new WikiProject one about currently Active Peruvians in Wikipedia, What about that? let me write the proposal. So far four users and taking the motivation away from people, careful with WP:OWN first lets bring people then lets vote. Participation is a tricky business, anyway soon I will need to go so don't worry too much. Keep the good job. Sincerely and best wishes. ◙JMK◙ -02:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think we need to achieve a consensus about what needs to be done for this Participation drive. There are several issues at stake:
- Check the activity or inactivity of each member of the Wikiproject
- Leave a message to encourage participation of inactive users
- Create a list of inactive users
- Separate active from inactive users on the main page of the Wikiproject
- I agree with points 1 and 2. Point 3 seems allright to me as long as it is not done in the main page of the project. However, I don't agree with point 4 as it does not help with the purpose of this drive (improving user participation), and it makes the project look bad. What does everybody else thinks? --Victor12 02:34, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
As, always Victor12, you understood it very well. I propose that for "point #4" we create a subpage under our recently created outreach department, we can call it the "OOO" Or "tripe O" for Office of Outreach", I can see that the list can cause attrition, but somehow we need to deal with that reality in a statistical way, and of course without offending anybody or taking freedoms away. I on with this important and delicate susceptibilities.
I think that the other side of the coin is very positive and it is this(there is more but I don't want to divert your attention):
- By measuring activity, we can create a way to give incentives by honoring contributions, this definitely will motivate, increase participation and the quality of contributions. For example we use the template for indicate those numbers (again the criteria should be based in consensus and common sense) at the end of the month (or more time) An "outreach committee" would compare numbers vs. quality and choose the honoree of the month by giving this user an official barnstar. That is the very positive side of this "token" to have a system in which we can measure our activity in a peer-review manner and making sure we are getting there together and under consensus at all the times. That is the importance of discerning and documenting. It is a hard categorization, but imagine if we report, for instance: "In this country there are 1 million of people" and we don't make the difference of how many were working and who were not. How we can understand or determine the Elasticity of the demand or offer, then? no economy? Lets hide the list, I'm OK if you want to do it so.
- For me it does not make any difference, but lets us work on this. The invitation, should be attractive, short and sweet and would be nice if were followed by our newsletter. Well again, this is only a exposition and in any way, shape or form represent an imposition. If we need to vote, then lets us vote. Now, I am almost ready for a great expedition, so I will come back now and then in here, as much as I can. But it is, as always it has, up to you. I am proposing you are the final decider. John Manuel -"-Todos Llegan de Noche, todos se van de día" 07:34, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
For those interested in the creation of the list of inactive Members: Here is the Usage
{{WikiProjectActivity | UserTalk=2 | WikiProject=4 | Mainspace=1 | Activity=A }}
Example:
The UserTalk, WikiProject, Mainspace and Other parameters are all optional. Use only the ones that are appropriate for the situation. Typically, the Left-White, Top-Red, Right-White, and Bottom-Red sections will be filled in, as a minimum; to determine inactivity within a predetermined period of time.
Color | Meaning | Values |
---|---|---|
Left-White | UserTalk | 0-30
|
Top-Red | WikiProject | 0-30
|
Right-White | Mainspace | 0-30
|
Bottom-Red | Activity | A,

Top importance to GA-Class goal
Hi, about this goal to make all Top importance articles become GA at least, its tough but possible, found this which could help: Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Peru articles by quality/1, list of Peru Top-importance articles by quality status, just to let you know Andersmusician VOTE 23:51, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- We currently have one top importance GA: Peru. I want to take it to FA before focusing on other articles. I'd probably take History of Peru next. It will take us a long while to take all those top importance articles to GA level. --Victor12 23:55, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Peru To-do Tasks
I was tired of arriving to dead-end Peru talkpages with only the banner alone, so I added a To-do list at the bottom of the project banner(got inspired from WP:CVG). It currently transcludes {{PeruTasks}}, so feel free to edit it and add tasks you believe are convenient, thanks --Andersmusician VOTE 17:47, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Articles created by Priscilla D
On 24–25 June 2007 Priscilla D (talk · contribs) created a number of articles about Peruvian beaches and other locations. These seem to be machine translations from Spanish sources and are practically incomprehensible to an English-speaking reader. Could you folks look these over to determine which subjects might be notable and which articles might involve copyright violations? I considered initiating a mass AfD of these articles, as in their current state they're clearly unsuitable for the English WP; but some of these topics may actually deserve articles (and some may already be treated in existing articles). I myself have no way of separating the wheat from the chaff. Deor 16:52, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- It's even worse than mentioned, some of the older contributions also seem to be machine translated or written by someone with limited knowledge of english. Other articles are just basic geography stubs and as such ok (for the time being). Eric Bronder 18:01, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Even worse than that, I've checked a few and they are all copyvios from http://recorriendoelperu.com/, probably made using an online translator. I've tagged a few with {{Db-copyvio}}, but I'm almost sure they all are. I'll try to tag more tomorrow, if anybody wants to help, please do.--Victor12 02:35, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

State terrorism in Peru
I added some Peru related content at List of acts labelled as state terrorism sorted by state, but it seems I sourced it badly [1], so it was removed, can you please take a look? --Andersmusician VOTE 00:05, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- This topic seems quite tricky. I don't think you'll find neutral sources that refer to "State terrorism" during the Internal conflict in Peru. Not even the CVR, it just mentions actions by some members of the Armed Forces which were systematic in some areas and some periods. Even that wording caused an uproar among some sectors of the Peruvian society. --Victor12 00:12, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Agree, my mistake, I was gonna talk about instead "Rodrigo Franco's team", and "Grupo Colina", wich might be labelled as government terrorist. However I'm too busy right now for looking for proper sources about these. Will be on hold then --Andersmusician VOTE 01:52, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Political parties
One of our members has moved the articles of Peruvian political parties from their English name to their Spanish one for the second time in two months, check: Special:Contributions/Cesarpez. That seems to go against Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Use English words. What do you think? --Victor12 17:32, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'd say use the english names. This seems to be the common way to do. Aslo see arguments in our previous discussion here. ErickAgain 18:25, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- This actually happened before. I tried to start a discussion on it but it seems that the user came back and moved them unilaterally. I agree with Eric in that the names used should be in English unless there is evidence that the Spanish language name is most often used in the anglophone world.--Jersey Devil 20:16, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

But, look. If there is the name of a political party in spanish, it's like a proper name. you cannot change or translate any proper names because it's already like that. So I think my edition was right because for example if your name is "Jorge", I'm not going to put it in the English wikipedia as "George", right? .--Cesarpez

- I'm a little worried about the copyright status of this pics. They seem to be official museum pics, however, there's no express permission from the museum to use them. This might lead to a massive deletion request in the future. --Victor12 03:23, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

- I think she's working or has been working for the museum and has access to "official" images. The museum web site has a database of images of their complete collection. I haven't checked the images against the online database (yet). I'm more worried about the fact that she seems to be promoting the museum by placing images on a zillion articles en places a link to Larco on them also. Most of the images don't seem to be relevant and she has been cautioned for that on her talk page, but never responded as far as i know. --ErickAgain 17:47, 25 October 2007 (UTC).

Several peruvian indigenous ethnic groups
Hi, I want to know if it would be appropriate for the project to create a template for indigenous groups in Peru, a pretty much similar to {{Indigenous peoples of the Americas}}, the purpose ive seen is that these are so disorganized around Category:Ethnic groups in Peru, category:Indigenous peoples in Peru, and others uncategorized. what do you think?--Andersmusician VOTE 21:19, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Just for modern groups or for historical groups also? --Victor12 (talk) 23:29, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- No I mean current groups in Peru, both indigenous and foreign based. Would it be proper, or categories are just enough? I believe these dont favor navigation, since are very specific topics, what do you think?--Andersmusician VOTE 00:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, there's already {{Immigrant groups in Peru}} so maybe a template for indigenous groups could be appropriate. --Victor12 (talk) 01:29, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- I believe it would be better to just attemp to merge all ethnic groups links in one single template, perhaps taking as an example {{Ethnicity in Atlanta}}, this would favor more page linking to indigenous people articles where some are currently at 1 or 2 --Andersmusician VOTE 03:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

because there were no human right concerns recently in Peru. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.230.119.30 (talk) 20:29, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- hey thats not true, it's because there's not enough research on this topic(except CVR) around here, so we don't have much sources to add. see WP:CIT--Andersmusician VOTE 00:44, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- The Informe Final CVR is something like 3,000 pages. What more do you want? Also keep in mind that Amnesty International, the CNDDHH, and the Department of State continue to publish anual reports on the human rights situation in Peru, and organizations such as Human Rights Watch, APRODEH, etc., publish detailed information on the situation in Peru all the time. I don't call that a lack of sources. --200.121.217.107 (talk) 06:13, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Shining Path GA Sweeps Review: On Hold
As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. I have left this message at this project's talk page so that any interested members can assist in helping the article keep its GA status. I'm specifically going over all of the "World History-Americas" articles. I have reviewed Shining Path and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 19:46, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- It seems likely that one of our seven Good Articles is going to lose GA status, even though it only needs a little work to keep it. --Descendall (talk) 06:28, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- The article passed the GA review and remains a GA-class article. --Descendall (talk) 03:55, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Keeping in mind that my knowledge of Peru is next to non-existent, please do not take offense at this question: For the above categories, are at least 90% of them ones that should be bannered? For instance, are at least 90% of the articles in the "Category:War of the Pacific" ones that should have the WikiProject Peru banner? How about "Category:The Emperor's New Groove characters"?
Please strike out any that should be reviewed manually rather than have the bot label them. Let me know when a couple people have reviewed those (leave a note on my talk page) and I'll run the bot.
Many thanks! – SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 22:12, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- OK, to start the discussion I think the following categories should be striked
- Category:Apu Mallku - deals mainly with Bolivian Aymara leaders
- Category:Operation Condor - Peruvian participation in Operation Condor was marginal at best, most articles in this category concern Chile and Argentina, not Peru
- Category:The Emperor's New Groove characters - I'd say this is a big no no
- Category:Tres Fronteras - this includes three towns located in the frontier between Peru, Brazil and Colombia. One is Brazilian, one Colombian and one Peruvian
- Anybody has more suggestions? --Victor12 (talk) 22:43, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- I just typed out an enormous response only to be told that there was an edit conflict. I don't know why wikipedia can't prevent you from losing everything you wrote every time that happens. Basically, I accidently cut and paste the raw list instread of the list that I went through. I meant to take a bunch of those categories out. In fact I did, but I lost it in the stupid edit conflict. I'll get doing it. Sorry. --Descendall (talk) 22:57, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, I have posted an updated version here. I deleted the following categories:
- Category:Active cruisers of Peru
- Category:Apu Mallku
- Category:Brazil-Peru border crossings
- Category:Colombia-Peru border crossings
- Category:Ecuador-Peru border crossings
- Category:Operation Condor
- Category:People of the Chincha Islands War
- Category:People of the War of the Confederation
- Category:People of the War of the Pacific
- Category:Peruvian border crossings
- Category:Peruvian civil aircraft
- Category:Peruvian civil aircraft 1940-1949
- Category:The Emperor's New Groove characters
- Category:Trees of Peru
- Category:Tres Fronteras
- Category:War of the Confederation
- Category:War of the Pacific
I believe that's all that I wanted to delete. If you find any other categories with articles in them that should not be tagged, feel free to delete them. --Descendall (talk) 23:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- This selection seems OK to me except for Category:War of the Confederation and Category:War of the Pacific. I just checked both categories and all of their articles are Peru related. Also, why exclude Category:Trees of Peru? BTW, sorry for the edit conflict. --Victor12 (talk) 00:22, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- The edit conflict wasn't your fault. Anyway, I think that articles like Chilean schooner Covadonga and Ferrocarril de Antofagasta a Bolivia can be safely excluded from the Peru project, and they are in Category:War of the Pacific. Category:Trees of Peru seemed like a bit of a stretch. I mean, is a brazil nut so closely associated with Peru? Why isn't it called a peru nut? --Descendall (talk) 00:38, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- ROFL... you are right, plants and animals are kind of a gray zone so its better to exclude them. As for the War of the Pacific category, actually the Covadonga is kind of Peru related as it was sunk by Peruvians in the Peruvian port of Chancay, the wreck has been located so you can consider it an archaeological site in Peruvian territory thus, notable for WP:PERU. How's that? The railway on the other should not be tagged. So, it seems this category is inside the 90% zone described by SatyrTN. --Victor12 (talk) 00:50, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- I still am not sure. War of the Pacific, Talk:Huáscar (ship), Tacna-Arica compromise, Toro Submarino, Treaty of Ancón, and Treaty of Lima are already tagged by the Peru project.
- Arica, Chile and the Tarapacá Region are both in Chile, not Peru, and putting them in the Peru project would probably really anger the Chileans. The Atacama border dispute was, I believe, between Chile and Bolivia, not Chile and Peru. BAP Manco Cápac and BAP Atahualpa are both redirect page and probably shouldn't be in the category at all. It seems a little strange to put USS Lackawanna (1862) in the Peru Project. You already said that Ferrocarril de Antofagasta a Bolivia shouldn't be labled. That leaves Chilean schooner Covadonga, which I guess could be put in the Peru project, but we don't need a bot to do that.
- As for Category:War of the Confederation, all of the articles in it are already tagged. --Descendall (talk) 01:25, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, Arica was part of Peru (Viceroyalty of Peru and Republic of Peru) since its foundation in 1541 until 1880. The same can be said of Tarapacá. A couple of Peruvian presidents were born in these regions, Ramón Castilla in Tarapacá and Guillermo Billinghurst in Arica. As for the border dispute, it was between Bolivia and Chile indeed, allthough one could argue that its origins date back to colonial times when Antofagasta was under the administration of the Viceroyalty of Peru. Anyway, I'll admit this is quite a weak case, so maybe it should not be tagged. As for the USS Lackawanna it has been included because it hosted failed negotiations among the belligerents during the war. IMHO this is a mistake and we should remove this article from the War of the Pacific category. The redirects should also be removed though maybe we should include their target articles. Finally, an important question, is this bot going to run periodically, or just once? --Victor12 (talk) 01:46, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think we also need to exclude Category:Fictional Incans, none of them are really Peru related. --Victor12 (talk) 02:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- I deleted the fictional incans category. I think that we can probably agree that the War of the Confederation category entails a complexity that makes it preferable to do by hand rather than bot. I requested that the bot only be run once since there aren't tons of Peru articles added every day, though I guess that request could be modified. --Descendall (talk) 03:17, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I agree on both points and also on the exclusion the War of the Pacific category. It should be done manually. --Victor12 (talk) 15:24, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Think we're ready for the bot to do its thing? --Descendall (talk) 05:38, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. --Victor12 (talk) 15:17, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
