Binhai New Area (simplified Chinese: 滨海新区; traditional Chinese: 濱海新區),also known as Binhai (simplified Chinese: 滨海; traditional Chinese: 濱海), is a major economic development zone within the jurisdiction of Tianjin municipality in China. Binhai New Area is located on the coast, east of Tianjin, and is centered on the Circum-Bohai-Sea Region. Binhai New Area is a new growth area in china, and maintains an annual growth rate of nearly 30% of GDP. At the end of 2010, 285 Fortune Global 500 companies have invested and established branch offices here. Binhai is the base of China's advanced industrial and financial reform and innovation. Transnational corporations here can enjoy the lowest tax rate in China and the highest rate of economic growth. This is the reason why Rockefeller, TISHMAN SPEYER, Motorola, Airbus and other famous companies build a branch here. For instance, EADS Airbus has already opened an assembly plant for its A320 series airliners, operational since 2009. It is to emulate operations seen in Shenzhen and Pudong, Shanghai.[1] It is a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the PRC, and experimental reforms are taking place throughout the zone.[2]

Starting from November 2009, Binhai New Area was consolidated into a district, and the former subordinate districts of Tanggu, Hangu and Dagang were abolished.[3] Nowadays Binhai New Area consists of nine functional zones namely Advanced Manufacturing Zone, Airport-based Industrial Zone, Binhai High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Seaport based Industrial Zone, Nangang Industrial Zone, Seaport Logistics Zone, Coastal Leisure & Tourism Zone, Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City and Central Business District. In addition, Tianjin Port whose throughput ranks 5th in the world also locates in here.
