My apologies, I did not mean to bite. I still feel that the article meets speedy deletion criterion A7 by not asserting its notability whatsoever. The subject of the article needs to be notable in order to be included on wikipedia, and the article needs to say why it's notable. That is my only issue. -FrankTobia (talk) 04:18, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

I advise against immediately re-creating the article, as it would be liable for speedy deletion under criterion G4: recreation of deleted material. The reason your article got deleted after only 14 hours is because it went through the speedy deletion process, and not proposed deletion or articles for deletion. I recommend reading up on Wikipedia's deletion policy for the differences.

I'm willing to work with you on this article, though. My suggestion is you re-create the article in your user space, for instance, at /Nova Development. You can work on it there until it's suitable for inclusion on the mainspace, and then you can move it there. I can help you at any stage of the process. Tagging an article for speedy deletion isn't really a right. Anyone who can edit Wikipedia can tag an article for speedy deletion. Keep in mind that I did not delete your article, an administrator did. I tagged it as meeting a requirement for candidates for speedy deletion. I recommend reading WP:SPEEDY, the criterion it fell under was A7. In hindsight perhaps I was too quick to tag it, so I would like to help make it up to you. I made a few tweaks, and I think the article is now good for inclusion in the mainspace. The important part is that the lead section now asserts the notability of the company. It's always better to draw users attention to the AfD in a neutral fashion, rather than wondering if they'd be interested in preserving the article. Bottom line is that failure to go down the neutral line leaves you open to the sort of issues which User:Schuym1 is raising. And that would be your own own-goal. You should have enough confidence in the ability of others to judge for themselves, and you should be willing to accept that other have different views from you as to the notability of the film. --Tagishsimon (talk)

I have read the canvassing page. For me, the key element, right at the top is: Under certain conditions it is acceptable to notify other editors of ongoing discussions, but messages that are written to influence the outcome rather than to improve the quality of a discussion compromise the consensus building process and may be considered disruptive. Your messages crossed that boundary. But by my count we are talking about 1.5 messages, which is small enough beer that it does not IMO deserve the ANI listing. I would presume that neutral tone alerting of a small number of people, informing them of the AfD, as opposed to advocacy is permissible. Absolutely. IMO=In my opinion. ANI = Administrator's Noticeboard /Incidents. (if these were the things you didn't understand). I think the rule of thumb is, explain in the AfD exactly why it should not be deleted; canvass if you must in a neutral fashion, and consider whether canvassing is worth it. I have not looked in enough detail, but a comment by t'other chap led me to believe that the people you canvassed had made minor changes - such people are more likely to be of the class of people who make small changes to many articles, than people who have a specific interest in the subject matter of the article to the extent they'd be motivated to get involved in an AfD. --Tagishsimon (talk) 11:32, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Gothic architecture

You made a comment on the talk page which still hasn't been responded to. Your comment was that the article focusses on churches and castles. You requested that shops and modest-scale domestic architecture be dealt with.

The gaps in the article are quite large. In fact, castles are not dealt with, and need to be. Another form of Gothic architecture which is not fully treated is parish churches (which in England are a distinct architectural category to cathedrals and abbey churches. This is not the case in many other countries). Also town halls, (which in the Low Countries are a very distinct category), palaces and large homes (which the article doesn't deal with) and barns and trade halls.

When it comes to shops and modest-scale domestic architecture in the Gothic style, it is largely missing from many areas, because the domestic architecture was in wood, and was built in the local vernacular which maintained a vernacular style regardless of the period eg. a thatched cottage tends to look like a thatched cottage regardless of the century it was built in. This is not to say that there were not distinct forms to modest-scale domestic architecture, and a definite development, but that the characteristic features of the "Gothic Style" were not present, or if the were, then it was a decorative treatment to the openings, rather than structual features eg clustered columns and ribbed vaulting.

In regions where the town buildings of the period are commonly of stone. ie parts of France, northern Itlay etc, there are relatively modest town houses that have windows with pointed arches rather than round ones, and doors that are detailed by mouldings of a Gothic form. Otherwise, they are almost indistinguishable from the earlier or later houses with differently-shaped windows. Elsewhere signs of the Gothic style are unexpectedly rare. Only one single example of modest domestic architecture from the medieval period remains in Paris, and (when I saw it in 2005) was disgracefully unmaintained.

Generally, the houses that demonstrate true Gothic style are the large ones, built by rich merchants, bishops and landed gentry. There are also many Alms Houses of this period, generally with wealthy patrons.

Because of the length of the present article, the best way to go is to write a separate article on Gothic domestic architecture. As for Castles... well, I have no doubt that wiki has a page, but I have never ventured to look at it. Amandajm (talk) 07:55, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for you reply. I tried to write a parag. on Castles in the article with a link to the main, but my link crashed and lost it, as happens fairly frequently. I stupidly changed to a different company recently and have had problems every since. Anyway, I looked at the Castles page and found that it traces the development of castles as an architectural form very well, even though it doesn't touch on "style" which is obviously less significant than the structural development. Definitely worth a look. As for all the other things.... well, I'll check out what has ben written. There are a great many monographs on specific houses, quite a few of which are FAs because user:Giano has been beavering away at them. It might be possible to make some pertinent links. I have no idea what has been done about domestic architecture other than in England.

The List of sultans of the Ottoman Empire is not up for deletion, on the contrary: it is a featured list candidate, meaning that if its nomination is successful it will be promoted to featured (quality) status. You can find more about the featured list process here: WP:FL. No one has ever talked about deleting the list. Therefore, could you please remove and/or change the comment you left? What I asked you as a member of WikiProject Turkey was simply to look at it and review it to see if there is room for improvement (like the comments left by other users): do you think the lead is OK ? do you think it should be shortened? is there important information that you think has been wrongly omitted? etc... First, the "point" you seconded had nothing to do with portraits, but with a photograph of then-president-elect Obama and then-vice-president-elect Biden visiting the Court; the editor put it in several sections, and it belonged to none of them. I was not the only person who requested her to justify the inclusion at which point she flew into a rage. So you aren't really "seconding" any point, but making a comment completely out of context and misunderstanding what you are referring to. Second, the proper place to talk about improvements to the article is the article's talk page, not the talk page of one of the many editors who have contributed to that article. I invite you to post your comment/request/complaint there, not in my talk page; and the article does have portraits in it, so I don't know what you are referring to. Thirdly, I am not on-line at all instants. I have not seen whatever changes you are referring to in the Stevens page. It's not exactly great manners to go around poking people because they don't act as quickly as you think they ought to, or in the instant you thing they should have. No, it is not inconsistent with the current lead paragraph. What you added was pretty much random trivia, much along the lines of baseball statistics on batting average on Wednesday night when batting against a left-hander following a switch hitter. While it might belong in the body of the article, it does not belong on the lead. The current sentences relate to important facets of Stevens career and position in the court, not random trivia. tenther movement

I have no problem with you deleting "tax funded" as I was searching for a way to qualify that statement, and it seemed most appropriate. Something has to be done with that sentence, as all self-identified "tenthers" do not ascribe to the belief as it is stated. For example, both Ricky Perry and Michelle Bachmann work for the federal goverment. Non-valid deleting authority

What authority does User:Andyjsmith have in hastily deleting legitimate articles?

Is there any due process? All of his wikipdeia activity seems to be only scolding people for illegitinate articles.

Davila is a legitimate subject of a biography. All User:Andyjsmith (is he an administrator?) does is refer to proscribed subjects but he does not indicate how the subject fits into the category. I have reverted your edit which reverted the changes I made to the junction list on this article. I removed the Madrid and Golden lines twice because there are no major intersections in either town. On top of that, the table was incorrectly formatted, which my edits fixed.

I don't get it. You started a discussion and then just reinstate your preferred version without engaging in discussion? The section I removed is factually incorrect, and your references are not WP:RS. The problem I have is that BG is STILL a vital rail center. The copy you wrote insinuates that its connection to rail transport is only historic. It may be a fundamental misunderstanding of rail's role in contemporary transportation on your part. That is not at all an uncommon misconception, but it is not a misconception this encyclopedia should re-enforce. Please engage on the talk page and do not continue to edit war. Thank you.

Uncivil tone

Firstly, User:John from Idegon is saying on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Administrators'_noticeboard/Edit_warring: in his dispute over Bowling Green, Kentucky "What's a boy to do, I ask ya?" Are you kidding me? This sounds like schoolyard talk. I would hope that editors of an encyclopedia can be civil. Secondly, User:John from Idegon said that he removed a link because he didn't like it.
