Welcome![edit]

Hello, Green daemon, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions, especially your edits to Little soft-furred rat. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:55, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comment about the rat. It it tough to sort these things out because it almost always means someone has to check a physical book in a library, and so many animal articles have problems both with misinterpretation of sources and correct interpretation of conflicting sources. I posted a note on that article's talk page that a problem exists. I am not sure of the long term solution to these kinds of problems because we definitely do not have enough people to manually check all articles, but it helps when people like you flag problems for others to eventually address. I wish the best for this animal but I regret that I cannot fix this particular problem. Thanks a lot for contributing. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:57, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A page you started (Chrysophlegma (Genus)) has been reviewed![edit]

Thanks for creating Chrysophlegma (Genus), Green daemon!

Wikipedia editor Animalparty just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

This should be at Chrysophlegma, since the (genus) disambiguator is presently unneeded on Wikipedia. Are there other taxa with the same name?

A page you started (Geelvink imperial pigeon) has been reviewed![edit]

Thanks for creating Geelvink imperial pigeon, Green daemon!

Wikipedia editor Animalparty just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

I'm not a frequent contributor to bird articles or WikiProject birds, but I note that the IOC, which is preferred (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Birds/References) does not yet recognize D. geelvinkiana as a full species. The del Hoyo & Collar 2014 ref would be ideal.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Doubleday's hummingbird, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Doubleday's hummingbird. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the pageโ€” you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 18:51, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm LindsayH. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Wandering albatrossย without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. You removed information about the two subspecies of the Albatross; if you did not intend to do this, well and good, i have put it back; but if you did, however, then if you were doing so disruptively (which i doubt), please stop, and if it is disputed information (which i vaguely recall it may be), it needs to be discussed on the talk page please. Either way, you will find it helpful (and so will other editors who come behind you) to use an edit summary indicating why you did what you did. Thanks, Cheers, LindsayHello 11:19, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add this to entries on dab pages. Either you know the birthyear, and add it; or you don't know it and don't add anything. It would be possible to add something in the description to situate the person in time, but not (born 19??). Kraxler (talk) 22:55, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Timestamp[edit]

Hi.

When you update statistics please remember that you should also update the timestamps as of when the stats are correct. This is done by manually updating the date above or below the statistics table. By doing this we show when the stats were last updated and it prevents other editors from accidentally updating the stats again.

Please keep this in mind. Thank you. Qed237ย (talk) 23:26, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Roger that!

Live updates[edit]

Hi.

Please do not update statistics or scores while a match is in progress. Instead, wait until the match has finished before updating. At WikiProject Football there is a consensus not to add live scores and also a consensus not to update any statistics while a match is in progress. Without live updates it is easier to avoid duplicate information and errors from being published on the article.

Please keep this in mind. Thank you. Qed237ย (talk) 16:39, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OK!

Fb team templates[edit]

I would say you should probably avoid using those "Fb team" templates. They aren't at all useful and it's probably easier to just use a plain wikilink. โ€“ PeeJay 17:58, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

They're just totally unnecessary. If one is capable of using a template, surely one is capable of creating a wikilink, right? They might benefit us by helping keep links up to date, but considering a redirect is usually created automatically when pages are moved (plus pages are moved so infrequently it shouldn't matter), it's hardly a benefit. They were supposed to be used with a series of other templates that some jobsworth editor thought would help people with editing, but they're more trouble than they're worth. โ€“ PeeJay 19:27, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I can write Manchester United but it's a lot quicker to write {{fb team Manchester United}} and seems (to me) to produce the same result. Is there something I am missing?

FWIW, I always use {{subst:fc|Manchester United}} which produces the right result for less typing. 77.130.196.91 (talk) 13:27, 31 July 2017 (UTC) p.s. I love your user name, which is what brought me here. It's good to see daemon spelt "correctly".[reply]

Career stats tables[edit]

Hello, and thank you for trying to improve Wikipedia by creating footballers' stats tables. Trouble is, you don't seem to be aware of the limitations of some of the sources you're using. E.g., Soccerbase is only reliable for the players in the English and Scottish Leagues, not for those of other countries or below the Football League level. And Soccerway is reliable, but only for the years and competitions it covers, and it isn't obvious to the beginner which those are: its coverage of leagues tends to go back further than for cups, and coverage of cup competitions doesn't necessarily cover early rounds.

Take Kรฉvin Monnet-Paquet: compare his Coupe de France and UEFA competition appearances in your table with those at his page on lequipe.fr or on uefa.com. Or his Coupe de la Ligue appearances in your table with those at lfp.fr (select e.g. 2006/2007 and Coupe de la Ligue from the dropdowns).

I'd advise slowing down a bit, and making sure that when you put zeroes in a table, those cells really mean zero and don't just mean your source doesn't know. Leaving a cell blank is better than using an inappropriate source. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:25, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Also, your Soccerway links aren't formatted properly: you need to put the name part of the url in the ID parameter as well as the number. Check out the documentation. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:34, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of said tables, please duly arrange the chart of Hernรขni Jorge Santos Fortes (i would myself, but don't know how). Don't know where did you get the "info" Atlรฉtico Clube de Portugal played THREE years in the Primeira Liga but they did not (it was 2010/11 in the Portuguese Second Division and the other two in the Segunda Liga, i already arranged the seasonal wikilinks, now you need to correct the "division" column).

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 14:55, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have previous on this. Please do not add a "Club" section heading if it is not necessary, ie the article does not have a section for international statistics. Bear in mind the text in the footnotes are sentence fragments, so there's no need to add "the" before the competition names. Also, please note the EFL Trophy has been the competition's correct name from the 2016/17 season onwards. The career stats tables should reflect that. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 13:03, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. What makes you think Mr Henry played 18 league matches for Millwall in the 2008/09 season? Your cited source says quite clearly 16. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:33, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Struway2. Soccerbase shows 16 L1 games and 2 play-offs which soccerway show as 18 L1 games. In the past, I have usually seen play-off games construed as part of the main league season and counted as such. I don't know if there is an official policy on this. Have changed Career stats table to reflect this. Can change the Infobox if necessary.
Cheers

Green daemon (talk) 15:51, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Should be treated as separate. The infobox documentation says so explicitly, and the same approach should be taken with the stats table. Playoffs go in Other. While you're at it, he has 35 league apps in 2012/13, giving a total of 121. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:04, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Struway2 I've always put play-offs in 'other' column in stats table. Mr Henry has been adjusted as per. Thanks. Green daemon (talk) 16:14, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Could you point out where in the cited source you got Mr de Jong's 2017/18 stats from? Thanks in advance, Struway2 (talk) 13:27, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Struway2. Got them from soccerway; have added reference to the page. Didn't realise it was a different source at the top. Cheers, Green daemon (talk) 13:34, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's not only a different source, it's a dead different source. But it's not just at Siem de Jong. Earlier today, you removed an inline source from Ryan Shotton for no apparent reason. These are just from this morning's edits to articles on my watchlist.
The point is that Wikipedia relies on proper sourcing: without it, it fails as an encyclopedia. You're becoming a very regular and prolific editor of stats tables, and your work shoud be very welcome. But if you're rushing through articles, prioritising formatting and skimping on or ignoring sourcing, there's a problem. Please don't let it become a serious problem. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 14:04, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kerim Frei[edit]

My mistake with the first part of my edit summary. You did correctly update the European matches. Sorry, Struway2 (talk) 09:57, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your edits to career stats tables, but please ensure you edit in line with the Manual of Style, see this for example. GiantSnowman 15:52, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, edits such as this do not conform with WP:FOOTY/Players#Career statistics. The format that the table was in before your edits was correct. Please keep this in mind when editing in future. Thanks. LTFC 95 (talk) 17:23, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Soccerway[edit]

Hi, please bear in mind Template:Soccerway is designed to be used as an external link, not as a reference. It doesn't display in the correct format for a reference. It should be formatted like the way I've done in this edit. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 16:37, 4 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Table dates[edit]

Hi, please remember to update the dates that accompany stats tables. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 22:47, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also, could you please not format like this? It adds unnecessary space between the text and the reference. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:53, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Whether the template recommends it or not, we shouldn't be adding unnecessary spaces when they're not needed. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:50, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is necessary otherwise the superscript number touches the italic script which looks awful and detracts from legibility. Green daemon (talk) 17:12, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Does it, though? Is there a MoS or a guideline that supports this? Mattythewhite (talk) 23:31, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
