The Wii series is a series of simulation video games spawned by the Wii console that are similar in design, especially in their casual gameplay style and Mii integration. All the games have control schemes that simulate real life activities with the Wii Remote, except for the Wii Fit sub-series, which mainly uses the Wii Balance Board.

All games in the series involve the use of the Wii remote or other peripherals to add a sense of realism to the gameplay. All the games feature Mii integration. The first game in the series was Wii Sports, one of the launch games on the console; it is packaged with every Wii system. The most recent is Wii Party, a party game, which was released October 3, 2010.

Wii Sports games

Wii Sports

Wii Sports, released in 2006, is the first title in the Wii series. it has been packaged with the console in the U.S. since its beginning.[1] The game is known for starting a new development direction for Nintendo involving simple gameplay, simple graphics, and motion control.[1] It is currently the best-selling video game of all time.[2]

Wii Sports Resort

Wii Sports Resort, released in 2009, is the sequel to Wii Sports and bundled with a Wii MotionPlus, the game promises more accurate control and more realistic gameplay than the Wii's previous offerings. Currently, Wii units are sold with Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus, as well as with the original packaged products.

Wii Fit games

Wii Fit

Wii Fit, released in 2007, is the first of two games in the Wii Fit series. It is one of the first games to feature the use of the Wii Balance Board, wherewith it was bundled. As a fitness-oriented game, it measures a user's weight, telling the user his or her health based on Body Mass Index, and provides minigames for the user to exercise or to improve posture. It is currently the third-best-selling console game of all time of those not packaged with a console.[citation needed]

Wii Fit Plus

Wii Fit Plus, also released in 2009, is an enhanced version of Wii Fit, with new features such as new games, counting calories, and profiles for babies and dogs. It is sold both with the Wii Balance Board and as a standalone for users who already own the peripheral.

Other games

Wii Play

Wii Play, also first released in 2006, is the second game of the Wii series. It is packaged with a Wii remote.[3] It features a compilation of nine minigames, such as Shooting Range or Table Tennis, that are used to teach the user how to use the Wii remote. It is currently the best-selling non-bundled video game of all time.[4]

Wii Chess

Wii Chess, released in 2008, is a chess game released in Japan and European territories for the Wii.

Wii Music

Wii Music, also released in 2008, is a music game for the Wii, wherein the user uses Wii peripherals to simulate the play of music. It was considered as a launch game for the Wii, but was instead released later in 2008.

Wii Party

Wii Party, released in 2010, is the latest game in the Wii series, where players partake in various party games.[5]

Wii Play: Motion

Wii Play: Motion is an upcoming game in the Wii series, and the sequel to Wii Play. It will include twelve new minigames, and will be bundled with the Wii Remote Plus, which it requires.[6] The game is slated for release in 2011.
