clarification request

[1] strikes me as ambiguous, as I can't tell whether you oppose any block, or the indefinite nature of the proposal. Because there's so much confusing verbiage, I'm suggesting it would be helpful to clarify the phrasing. I'm not disagreeing with your opinion at all, just saying it would help reach consensus if we understood it better. Gerardw (talk) 14:53, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Warning!

This is your cats only warning; if it vandalizes Wikipedia again, it may be blocked from editing without further notice. --GraemeL (talk) 21:58, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re:GAN on hold

I'm sorry to blunt here and no offense, but why did you fail it if you agreed to give me to December 20 (nine days from today) and 2/3 of the comments have been addressed? YE Pacific Hurricane 05:39, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

None taken; I thought I mentioned that there were still a ton of prose problems beside the ones I pointed out – I'll give the article some work later today. HurricaneFan25 14:14, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Office Hours

Hey Hurricanefan25; another Article Feedback Tool office hours session! This is going to be immediately after we start trialing the software publicly, so it's a pretty important one. If any of you want to attend, it will be held in #wikimedia-office on Friday 16th December at 19:00 UTC. As always, if you can't attend, drop me a line and I'm happy to link you to the logs when we're done. Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:31, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Talkback

Hello, Hurricanefan25. You have new messages at Alpha Quadrant's talk page.

Cesar-Douglas

Hurricane Cesar–Douglas was only renamed because of NHC policy at the time. These days it would just be Cesar, so on the C4 PH list you can not use it as an example of being renamed because it weakened into an RL.Jason Rees (talk) 02:49, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WP:UWTEST update

Hi Hurricanefan25,

We're currently busy designing some new tests, and we need your feedback/input!

  1. ImageTaggingBot - a bot that warns users who upload images but don't provide adequate source or license information (drafts here)
  2. CorenSearchBot - a bot that warns users who copy-paste text from external websites or other Wikipedia articles (drafts here)

We also have a proposal to test new "accepted," "declined," and "on-hold" templates at Articles for Creation (drafts here). The discussion isn't closed yet, so please weigh in if you're interested.

Thanks for your help! Maryana (WMF) (talk) 01:32, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-editing

Hello, in response to your copy-edit request, I'm wondering why you don't request somebody else like Hurricanehink or Malleus Fatuorum. They are much better editors than myself, although I am reading a book copy-editing at the moment and still learning the intricate art of writing.

I strongly recommend you ask someone else because that would perhaps present the best chance for the article's GA/FA plans, if there are any. I can only make a crap article readable, not a good article outstanding, so I beg you have that in mind. Thanks, and take care --Sp33dyphil ©hatontributions 22:20, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know...

...that you can add padding-left:6px;padding-right:6px to your second
element to make text not run to the very edge of your colored box? Just something to make your user talk page look nicer; feel free to ignore/add. ;) Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:32, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Meh, I thought I would have to use a separate CSS file for my TP to do that. Thanks. :P HurricaneFan25 — 15:34, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Red "X" on your user page?

Hi, I'm a novice user on Wikipedia. This may just be a stupid question, but I was just wondering why your user page has a large Red "X" image superimposed on it, linking to SOPA#Opposition? Is this some form of vandalism?

Just Curious, Thanks! CDB-Man (talk) 07:30, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's not vandalism – I added it. You might have heard about how SOPA would basically defeat the purpose of Wikipedia; I believe it's mentioned in that section about how there was a straw poll on Jimbo Wales' talk page. HurricaneFan25 — 15:41, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, understood. And yes I've heard of SOPA. Now that you've reminded me of it, I'll spread the word to others I know. Thanks for the calrification! CDB-Man (talk) 05:00, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year's!

Welcome to the 2012 WikiCup

Hello, and welcome to the 2012 WikiCup! The competition officially begins at the start of 2012 (UTC) after which time you may begin to claim points. Your submission page, where you must note any content for which you wish to claim points, can be found here, and formatting instructions can be found in hidden comments on the page. A bot will then update the main table, which can be seen on the WikiCup page. The full rules for what will and will not be awarded points can be found at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There's also a section on that page listing the changes that have been made to the rules this year, so that experienced participants can get up-to-date in a few seconds. One point of which we must remind everyone; you may only claim points for content upon which you have done significant work, and which you have nominated, in 2012. For instance, articles written or good article reviews started in 2011 are not eligible for points.

This round will last until late February, and signups will remain open until the middle of February. If you know of anyone who may like to take part, please let them know about the comeptition; the more the merrier! At the end of this round, the top 64 scorers will progress to the next round, where their scores will reset, and they will be split into pools. Note that, by default, you have been added to our newsletter list; we will be in contact at the end of every month with news. You're welcome to remove yourself from this list if you do not wish to hear from us. Conversely, those interested in following the competition are more than welcome to add themselves to the list. Please direct any questions towards the judges, or on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck! J Milburn (talk) and The ed17 (talk) 17:54, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

your edit to my talk page

Kindly do not remove content from my talk page, as you did with this edit. It is not appreciated. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:05, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, what are you doing? You reverted that notice from everybody's talk page. What gives? --MuZemike 18:06, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like mass vandalism to me. Suggest that you go back and revert all of those edits immediately. And why are you using two usernames User:Hurricanefan24 and User:Hurricanefan25? Jezhotwells (talk) 18:09, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There was a red link in everyone's message (by error), though admittedly I should not have done that. :| HurricaneFanAlt ≈≈ (bad revert?) 18:11, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) While I don't know why he is removing the message either, and I'm as confused about that as you are, you will see that User:Hurricanefan24 states, "This is the main alternate account of Hurricanefan25 and is to be used to perform alternative tasks, such as vandal-fighting with Igloo or mass changes with AWB." I'll ask you to not inflame the situation further with charges of vandalism where there are none, and assume good faith. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 18:13, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
All reverted... as for using rollback, WP:RBK states that it can be used for reverting "widespread edits (by a misguided editor or malfunctioning bot)" which I believe was happening (as there was a red link)...error in my judgement. HurricaneFan25 — 18:15, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The red link is to the sub-page that editors create to list their progress. As the competition hasn't started it is a red link. Suggest that you discuss this with User:J Milburn if you think there is a mistake, rather than undertaking rash actions. I am leaving a note at User talk:J Milburn. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:17, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, it was supposed to lead to /2012/Submissions/, which exists, not /Submissions/2012/. HurricaneFan25 — 18:18, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
