I try not to create articles. I have done so, and certainly will continue to do so, but seriously, far too much emphasis is placed on the creation of new stubs here, and not enough attention as to how many of them actually are referenced and brought to a stage at least nearing completion. If you haven't noticed, the number of unreferenced articles is astronomical. Because of this, I urge you, please help and join the Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced articles group here on Wikipedia! Gripes, grumbles, complaints
Too many musicians are designated as "singer-songwriters". Just because a musician is a songwriter who also sings, does not place them in that category!
There are too many articles started or added to by people who have cut, copy, and pasted information directly from other websites! If ONLY the written additions to our articles were as highly scrutinized as those photographs which are so hard to upload or justify with a rationale! Please remember, copyright violation of any kind endangers our Wikipedia!
Overuse of wiki-linking is just as bad (if not worse) as lack of wiki-linked articles. I do not believe that words such as "album" and "record" should require wiki-linking in musicians' biographies. If the reader can not grasp those concepts before reading articles in this category, then I suggest that the Simple Wikipedia is more appropriate than the English Wikipedia.
The Photographer's Barnstar. For finding images, and for recruiting photographers to supply images and the rights to use them, of musicians in concert. These have greatly enhanced a number of articles on those artists and and their concert tours. Wasted Time R (talk) 03:10, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
The Music Barnstar. For improving the aesthetics and utility of numerous music articles by sourcing and securing permission for illustrative photos. Keep up the excellent work! It's certainly appreciated Catfish Jim and the soapdish (talk) 18:44, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
The Photographer's Barnstar. I award this barnstar to Leah for her tireless work getting permission for getting more photographs on wiki. Thanks to her, wiki is a more colorful place. Suede67 (talk) 13:36, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
I used to maintain a list of photos of musicians that I uploaded via Creative Commons to Wikimedia Commons on my user page, but after uploading about 625 (very few are multiple pictures of the same person) I decided to place them on their own special page
Currently, the list stands at more than 1,200.
A TINY GLIMPSE OF SOME FAVORITE UPLOADS OF MINE. MOST OF THE REST CAN BE FOUND BY CLICKING THE LINK ABOVE. I CHOOSE TO UPLOAD PHOTOS TO ILLUSTRATE THE BIOGRAPHY ARTICLES OF MUSICIANS FOR THIS ENCYCLOPEDIA. SOME ARE FAVORITES OF MINE, BUT I ADD ALL I FIND THAT ARE NEEDED.
For names of photographers of the following, and how to contact them, click their photos. We appreciate their generosity.
I'm interested in other cultures, countries, languages, and a wide variety of music. This includes the storied lives of many musicians. I've chosen to edit their biographies. I believe music is more than entertainment, and those musicians who leave a strong impact on culture, politics, society as a whole, and the way we view the world are those who most often are the ones I choose. In 2010 I began contributing to other-language Wikipedias.
What I do
I find, email, and ask each photographer (every time) to remove the copyright from each photo I request, and explain how they can adapt a Creative Commons license instead. If they agree and allow us a license (CC-BY-SA), they maintain the right to have their names and a photostream to be attached to each photo, no matter where it is used. I promise nothing, but for articles that are just in the Start stage, I ask the editors of the article to keep the photographer's name in the photo caption until it is being assessed as a GA or FA-ranked one. It does no harm to the article in progress, and for new photographers to Wikipedia, it allows them to have more exposure for friends, family, and prospective customers. Some people have given up book deals and more, in exchange for little more than hidden recognition of their own work here. I want them to see our appreciation for their support of the Wikipedia. For these reasons, I am what is called a Wikifairy or Wikignome; alongside editing, I create infoboxes, find photographs, copyediting, and a lot of work left by others who came before me. I'm mostly a janitor Wikignome.
