John Zorn[edit]

Hello. It has been my intention for some time now to commend you on the great work you have done, and continue to do, on articles related to John Zorn. Astounding work, sir! Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 15:14, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I will contribute in any way I can. I was hoping that a GA push would be soon underway! I have seen Masada twice, but have not had the pleasure of meeting the man himself. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 14:53, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Just wanted to say Great Job and thanks on the WSQ albums articles!!!! Keep up the good work, the more jazz articles the better!Cosprings (talk) 14:44, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Tom Varner[edit]

Hi DISEman----sorry for jumping in on this WSQ comment page--not good at Wiki. thanks for the TV quartet entry. I added a bit more info just now---happy to forward it to you as well, in case they think it is not 'kosher' and you can add it too. thanks for the interest, again----tom varner

Dear Tom - thanks for noticing my current efforts at adding to the Black Saint/Soul Note catalogue entries and for your insight into the album. I find it rewarding when other jazz fans notice my entries but to have a musician appreciate them has given me a particular buzz. Unfortunately your entry was quickly reverted as it does not fit with the WP:NPOV (Neutral Point of View) policy but I found them insightful. I'll have to try to track down the Tom Varner Quartet album now for my collection but they are a bit hard to find in Australia. DISEman (talk) 00:54, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks again for the great work, especially for the great Freddie Hubbard! Keep up the good work!Cosprings (talk) 14:14, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I started the Sing Me a Song of Songmy article; could you wikify it with infobox/artwork/etc? Thanks again.Cosprings (talk) 14:28, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Greetings DISEman. Great work on the Hank Mobley discography/chronology!--Technopat (talk) 15:22, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

...AND on the Cannonball stuff AND on all the other things I keep coming across all over the place!--Technopat (talk) 08:20, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering, since you seem to be an expert on Hubbard, is his discography as a sideman nearly complete on his article? He, like most other jazz musicians, seems conspicuously inactive during the 1980s. Good work on the article, Hubbard is the best. Cosprings (talk) 23:28, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

'Round Midnight (song)[edit]

You added composer credits of Bernie Hanighen (lyrics) and Cootie Williams to the article, as it appears on the 1956 arrangement by the Miles Davis Quintet, but Thelonious Monk was the composer of the music, not Hanighen, and Williams embellished the tune after Monk composed it. Furthermore, both Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis have also contributed to the song, and they remain uncredited. It's best to list Monk as the primary composer, and discuss the contributions (and credits) of other artists subsequently. Viriditas (talk) 03:17, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the correction Viriditas. I've updated the article. If you have a reference to the Hanigen and Williams deveopments please add it. Regards DISEman (talk) 03:24, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
I made a slight change, but feel free to alter it to your preferred wording. I'll be happy to help out with the references. Viriditas (talk) 03:29, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Joe Henderson[edit]

Hi diseman, I don't know if you're a big Joe Henderson fan, but if you could wikify his album In 'N Out I would appreciate it. Thanks again for your work, I worked on the Tyner page after you hit it.Cosprings (talk) 18:51, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Excellent job on the Tyner! I hope you know, you are ensuring that these amazing men's legacy last. I run this blog. Look how much Tyner is being heard. What musicians are you planning on covering in the future? Cosprings (talk) 14:01, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

One suggestion: try to link notable songs. See McCoy Tyner Plays EllingtonCosprings (talk) 16:06, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

You are so close to finishing all of Hubbard's albums! I would love to see them all done, I am curious about his albums with my favourite trumpeter Woody Shaw/Cosprings (talk) 14:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Archie Shepp[edit]

Can I suggest/request that you look at working on the Archie Shepp discography? It looks like it would not be that much to fill in the album gaps. Pharoah Sanders needs work too but there are a lot bigger gaps with him. Work well done and thank you. Cosprings (talk) 22:27, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi there, just thought you might like to know that the Elvin Jones sideman discography is really great, but his discography as leader is really lacking. If you're versed with his work maybe you'd like to look at it. Thanks again.

Also diseman, I am a little confused, I got this album, but it doesn't appear ot be Last of the Hipmen. Is it possible your tracklist is wrong? The songs I downloaded are on some albums, others I can't find any sessionography about.

Cosprings (talk) 16:55, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Nice detective work on the Last of the Hipmen. Can I ask who else you are planning on creating albums for? Love the work on AEoC. Joe Henderson still needs work, I created the rest of his Verve albums, but someone is trying to get them deleted. Could you do your magic on his discog a little more? I also fixed Archie Shepp's a bit more.Cosprings (talk) 20:57, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Diseman, pleaes vote to keep the article Double Rainbow: The Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim. I hate when notable album articles are deleted when there are so many crappy ones out there. Thanks. Cosprings (talk) 13:43, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Art Blakey[edit]

Hello Diseman, I was wondering if I could get you opinion on something. I sorted the Art Blakey discography by label, and see that there are two albums, At the Jazz Corner of the World, Vol. 1+2, and Meet You At the Jazz Corner of the World, Vol. 1+2. Do you know if these are the same albums? Almost got all the Blue Note Blakey albums, appreciate it if you could fill in some gaps. Peace.Cosprings (talk) 18:07, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey, a couple of suggestions:

Every album article should have its record label as a category, eg Category:Justine Time Records albums

Also, discographies now have nationality categories, eg Category:American discographies for the Cecil Taylor

Great work as always Cosprings (talk) 15:19, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Admirers from afar[edit]

Greetings! Just a note to say I've seen your discography work, Herbie Hancock, in particular, and you are careful and it looks well planned. Nice. Thanks for doing this! I also wanted to mention that Herbie Hancock did work as a session musician on Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life. It was not on every song, but there's a great reunion documentary (that someone uploaded to You Tube), of all the musicians who worked on that landmark concept album, after 20 years apart. I'll post the first segment here for you, whoever put it on You Tube chopped it into sections to upload it all.. I'm sure you can find the following parts there after, or can ask me, but it is not only a really interesting project, but Herbie Hancock speaks about the experience throughout it. I hope this isn't an imposition for you. I'm swamped uploading photos and editing other articles, but this is worth seeing even if Hancock weren't in it! It's here: [1] Again, thanks! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:13, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Glad to see you doing your work on the great HC. I just have one request; another source for reviews; the Cannonball Adderley reviews were disrespectful and downright wrong, a second opinion would do the albums justice. Cheers. Cosprings (talk) 22:16, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Need your help?[edit]

Hey DICE- I've taken on the Rory Gallagher article (fool that I am; this must be penance for some sins I don't even know about)! I've come to beg your help --anytime whenever it suits you, to help with Rory's discography. It's mammoth. But it is complete, pretty much. No studio musician, he was one of the greatest blues players ever. I found the article nearly untouched recently, since I put a photo there a year ago... and yet it keeps on getting a lot of hits for a Start article! I've enlisted some other help for the text, but you are the man for this job, in the discography department, IMHO. I began to assemble one, sort of like that of Jaco Pastorious's article, but it made my head swim! What say you? Hopefully, --Leahtwosaints (talk) 20:17, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks DISE! I am pleased that you began to work on it. Here's what I think thus far:

  1. I like what you have done, but would call that part of his discography something other than "As a leader", mainly because with the band he formed near the middle of the 1960s, Taste, he was the frontman, songwriter of all material that wasn't cover songs, and lead guitar and vocalist, as well as the founder and bandleader. Thus, once the discography is really underway for everything, and the Taste band's article is improved significantly (its on my to do list as well..) we may need to put a note saying "For the main article, see Taste", in the text, and possibly in the discography.
  2. I was thinking about a format that would be something like the one for Jaco Pastorius:
  • Jaco Pastorius discography. I think it could cover all the kinds of material Gallagher did. The article text, which I'm working on slowly, shows Gallagher as a pioneer in many performance formats. For example, he (w/two other bands) were the first ever to record on Rockpalast, and he did the OGWT, along with quite a few videoed tours. What do you think of the idea of adapting the work you've done to use the format for the Main Discography like the one for Pastorius?
  1. Also, I was beginning to try to upload the photos on the album pages that do exist, and planned to create some more in particular for Gallagher's live albums, and the others where he was working with Muddy Waters and Lonnie Donegan, who were his heroes and inspirations (Lonegan's cover songs included those of Ledbelly, Woody Guthrie, and other folk and blues players-- the first he ever heard on the radio in Ireland as a child from the radio. Waters continued to inspire and teach Gallagher throughout his life, with kindness and humility, according to Gallagher. Anyway the upshot of the whole thing is that there are still album pages to be made, and I can make the infoboxes and album covers but don't know where to find the websites that rate the albums or have the lineup of other musicians on the record, so if you can tell me about good places to look, I'd like to get started on that. (For that matter, it applies whether for LPs, CDs, DVDs, and internet downloads, --and maybe singles, which might be too ambitious, I don't know. Half of his material he wrote, but the other half came from his heroes, and a lot of them (Louisiana Red's song, "Ride on, Louisiana Red", he did a lot, and "Mississippi Sheiks", and Muddy Waters' "Who is it". It would be great for the other musicians's articles, since once the song page is made, it can show on a template for each artist who recorded each song. (The more I think of it, there's a lot of material on those songs and albums, and he repeated many on live albums, as well as studio albums and tours, which makes it easier to do the album pages and song pages than those for most people.

Are you familiar with Rory Gallagher's music? I want to make some decent song clips later for the main article, since they show the various styles he played, from Taste's version of "Sugar Mama", a bass-heavy funk rock groove at times to the Mississippi Red song, with a Bob Dylan kind of approach on slide guitar. Well, too much blabbing to you, but please give me feedback, OK? THANK YOU for such a kind and quick response! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:11, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Rory Gallagher[edit]

Hey DISEman.. thanks for your work on the beginning of Rory Gallagher's article discography! I sounded ungrateful when you created the solo slbums section. Can you please link your work -the page with the rest of the discography as you intended? I think I was ambitious wanting to copy the style on Jaco Pastorius' discog. since he didn't record half as much stuff (though it's great looking!). What do you think should be done with all the albums, compilations and box sets his brother released after Rory died? Some was unheard tracks, some versions of songs recorded already, and some written by other people. I like the format that the Buzzcocks discography page, would you take a look and tell me what you think? He did do two albums with Muddy Waters, who was his musical hero, in London, England, and I don't know where to look for the information, but they were very pivotal in his advancement on the guitar, and his exposure to the blues. Can you help me find which ones they are and start a record album page for each? Also, the skiffle, folk and blues player, Lonnie Donegan, who influenced him from childhood. If you can help with those, it would be really GREAT, not just for Gallagher, but also, Muddy Waters' discography can benefit from it, and that would affect a whole lot of other musicians' articles by doing them. Please leave me a note on my talk page and let me know what you think, even if you don't want to do any more work on Rory Gallagher's discography. Thanks so much for helping with this!!! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 16:53, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

DISEman, what about Rory Gallagher? You still interested in helping?[edit]

I put the link to the discography that you began for Rory Gallagher on his article. I also would like your ideas for how to cover not just all the studio albums, but to do a really nice discography in boxes and how you'd like to divide the different albums. There are:

Studio Albums
Live Albums
Work before his solo career with the band Taste, which he assembled and was the bandleader.
Collaborations on albums starring both Rory Gallagher and his musical influences and idols; most notably Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Jack Bruce, and Lonnie Donegan's collaborations with Gallagher (they were both his influences and his blues-rock idols)
Posthostumous released albums with a lot of new material (some isn't even listed on Rory's article.
Box sets, again, new like the one above.
Session work

You ARE the discography guy I so admire, and I want your input. I added references on the original article discography list still remaining on Gallagher's article in the old discography section, look, there are great links for album references to use on the record album pages to use to expand the text, in those, since most of them are barely record stubs. Some record task force articles haven't even been created yet. I did find three other editors who are willing to help develop the article, almost an official work group. I added references for the main text expansion on Gallagher's talk page. I plan to email his his brother Donal Gallagher, and former/current manager/producer, to ask him what box sets and posthumously released albums, to determine which of those are real albums and not just "The Best Of..." kinds of albums, unless you think all should be listed. I don't know the album policy in Wikipedia, what ones should be used. Please, contact me back and.. my email is listed here in WP if you want to respond that way. Please, I need to know who will do what, or if you feel finished with the studio albums, and don't want to do anymore.--Leahtwosaints (talk) 20:48, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Irish Wikiprojects: Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy[edit]

Hi, I thought I'd contact the people who may be willing to edit/contribute to the Thin Lizzy articles, and the ones for Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynott. These are the people who have shown interest that I've thought might be involved, including yourself:

Would you consider making a banner for all the Thin Lizzy articles if they are not already in existance? I've begun to add photos to some of them, and more will follow! This will necessarily involve expanding the band page, and should flow into the individual members pages as well. Can you help make one for the Rory Gallagher Band? My computer talents aren't so great. It would be a big help!

About the people I listed, you, DISEman and Discographer both are willing to help with discography and album pages, (and some has been done already for Rory Gallagher, separate from the article). Kohoutek1138, and BNutzer may help with editing if asked nicely- I already did in advance for Rory Gallagher, but they may be prodded into helping with the Thin Lizzy articles. Also, Agadant just brought Van Morrison's article to GA-status-- in fact, I gave her a barnstar for it; it was that impressive. That leaves myself and you! I think that joining the

I sent to the UK and got a hardback book by Gerry McAvoy: Riding Shotgun 35 Years on the Road With Rory Gallagher and Nine Below Zero. I suspect that it's more about McAvoy than Gallagher, but it should help somewhat as a solid reference and I've got two playlists in You Tube with live interviews with Rory Gallagher. I've also begun another playlist of documentaries and special interviews for Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott. My You Tube playlist site name is 4rainbowed there. What is your You Tube site? If we connect there as friends, you can see all the Lizzy and Rory stuff I've gathered. Let me know what you think about all of this. Please ask other editors who may have an interest in these Irish bands to join us, and we might possibly have a Wikiproject we can list so others might find us! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 16:49, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

I don't know if it concerns this section, but can you add that the author Percival Everett has made Thelonious Monk his main character in his book titled : Erasure (the character's entire name is Thelonious Monk Ellison), it appears (for me) that is a clear tribute to the artist.

The survey takes only 6 minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist us in analyzing the results of the survey; the WMF will not use the information to identify you.

  • If this invitation also appears on other accounts you may have, please complete the survey once only.
  • If this has been sent to you in error and you have never patrolled new pages, please ignore it.

Please click HERE to take part.
Many thanks in advance for providing this essential feedback.

You are receiving this invitation because you have patrolled new pages. For more information, please see NPP Survey

Are you still with us?[edit]

I haven't noticed, since I myself have been rarely working too-- so are you still with us? Or taking a Wikibreak, maybe? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:47, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

OK then![edit]

It would be helpful if you can put together a list of artists who record on that label.. In return, could you keep Jeff Beck (and the bands he's worked with), and Rory Gallagher in mind when you need a change of pace in discography? User:Agadant has pitched in which is a kindness on Beck's article. I kinda got worn out for a while- a tedious illness of mine and a geographical move slowed me down with the everyday mundane things in life. I think it is for the best just because it's so easy to get worn out here! :) --Leahtwosaints (talk) 02:20, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Need your help with one discography entry[edit]

Howdy, Need your help with one entry to the Cat Stevens discography. Since I don't know where this would belong, could you do it? It's a song that Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam) contributed to an album called Songs for Survival. It's the last track under the "Amazon" section there. I wouldn't know how to go about it! Thanks! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 03:34, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

thanks for creating it. Although I wanted to create it myself, you gave me a reminder. I have so much sandboxes, that I sometimes stop working on one article, and then switch to another. I will begin on it when I have time and when finish the work of one article (which I try to translate from the German version, a featured article, the perfect opportunity to "upgrade" a stub! =P).--♫GoP♫TCN 13:57, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Hey, wonder if you can help[edit]

There are about a dozen musicians who have contributed so much to music, yet, need both a primary discography AND a separate discography page as well. No pressure but some need help and I'm hoping that along with all your previous commitments here that you could help in that (or any) capacity. Off the top of my head, I'm asking you to consider the following: First, each of the bands relating to band mate Jeff Beck! He really merits that attention. They include

  1. Jeff Beck, [2]
  2. Beck, Bogert & Appice [3]
  3. Cream, [4]
  4. Eric Clapton
  5. Rory Gallagher
  6. Derek Trucks

(Well, there's a list under a banner on my userpage, but you get the idea.. Thanks). --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:07, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Soxred 93 account[edit]

I don`t know how often or if at all, you check your watchlist and/or if you watch every article you create, but if you do, you may have notice i pretty much stalk your articles, assessing the new ones and adding covers and reception section to the old ones, i did all this with the list you mention on your talk page but not only the most recent 100 but actually bookmarking the full list.

Now, the account has expired, unless he restores it, any other way i could have access to the articles you have created? And once again your work is amazing. Zidane tribal (talk) 06:32, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

New albums[edit]

Hi, good to see you working on the CTI discog. Just one thing, maybe, instead of putting 10-20 edits into an article, just use the "preview" function and just have the article the way you want you create it. It would make edit histories clearer and things more simple and accurate.Cosprings (talk) 13:10, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Blowin' the Blues Away[edit]

This edit at Blowin' the Blues Away added 115 words from a review subject to copyright. While referenced, the excerpted words comprise a substantial portion of the article, and a majority of the prose (not counting the pure lists of tracks and personnel).

That prompted a listing at CP. I don't know the subject matter well enough to edit the material. I think it would be better if the material from the review were cut back to the one or two most salient sentences, then supplemented with some commentary from another source, if there is one. I don't know how many words would be the limit, but Wikipedia likes to err on the low side, relative to what may be legally permissible, to be safe. Is this something you could tackle, as you are likely to do a better job than someone not familiar with the subject matter? --SPhilbrick(Talk) 21:54, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Gene Ammons and Friends at Montreux[edit]

Hello DISEman,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Gene Ammons and Friends at Montreux for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is significant enough to be included in an encyclopedia, and the artist doesn't have an article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Sue Rangell 03:52, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I took the tag down from this one because I thought there was a hint of a claim to notability, but I do think it would be great if you could add more references and more solidly show that it's been the subject of mention in reliable sources, that way it won't get AFD'd or anything. Leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions or want to discuss anything. Peace, delldot ∇. 06:13, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Ernie Farrow[edit]

Hello, I see where you were one of the main editors of the Ernie Farrow article. I was searching Google for his cause of death, and the only reference I could find is this:

In the lower right hand corner is a reference to his having died in a "drowning accident". The print is too small for me to make it out clearly on my screen but, using a magnifying glass, I believe that is what is says. Could you either confirm this or tell me I'm seeing things :-).

Thanks - Michael David (talk) 22:41, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Information.svgThank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I undid your recent edit to Higher Ground per WP:WTAF; disambiguation pages are a list of blue links and generally, if the article exists, then it's considered suitable for inclusion on the list.--Launchballer 07:46, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Then it is now acceptable. In future, though, the procedure is to add links on non-disambiguation pages, write the article and then add them to disambiguation pages.--Launchballer 08:16, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Greetings DISEman. It's great to see you still in there, trout wielders notwithstanding, after all these years. I'm sure you're well aware of it, but just for the record, and for the information of anyone else who happens to drop by, in the unlikely event that in the six-odd years you've been contributing to Wikipedia you never actually got round to reading up on this kinda stuff, there's absolutely no objection whatsoever to creating redlinks of that kind, whether in articles (Wikipedia:Redlinks - "This page in a nutshell: Red links for subjects that should have articles but do not are not only acceptable, but needed in the articles. They serve as a clear indication of which articles are in need of creation, and encourage it.") or on them thar disambig. pages (Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(disambiguation_pages): " judged to be appropriate for a future article...").
Again, as I'm sure you know only too well, unlike the two guidelines I've linked, the above-mentioned WTAF is a mere essay ("This essay contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. Essays may represent widespread norms or minority viewpoints. Consider these views with discretion. Essays are not Wikipedia policies or guidelines." Cheers! --Technopat (talk) 01:12, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
Greetings again. Thanks for your note. I'd always thought trout-slapping was something done between friends, or at least acquaintances, but in this case I didn't detect any such connotation and the reason given just didn't click with me :) Not to mention those little gems "acceptable" and "the procedure". Be that as it may, there's plenty o' stuff waiting to be done, so in the immortal words of Blind Boy Fuller, let's "Keep on truckin'!" --Technopat (talk) 09:53, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Discographies Chronology[edit]

Hi. I'm triyng to improve discographies by jazz musicians, but I don't know what's the standard chronology in jazz. My first choice was order of release, but I've noticed that most of the jazz discographies used order of recording for the chronology. What do you think? Hi -- just a quick note to say that I changed your second level heading to just a bold heading in that review -- the FA candidates page doesn't work very well with second level headings inside the reviews, and it was causing the table of contents to get misformatted. Art Farmer discography[edit]

Thanks for your expansion of pages for the Art Farmer discography. Your last edit there suggested that you are going to create a page for the Columbia album The Time and the Place; you also deleted the entry for the Mosaic album of the same name. My understanding is that these are separate albums – see Mosaic's account. Why they chose the same title for recordings which had been confused in the past is a mystery, but... If you agree with my interpretation, could you restore the Mosaic album/collection to the discog and maybe give your planned page a different title? EddieHugh (talk) 10:24, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

AllMusic template[edit]

Hi, good work on tireless work on adding jazz albums to the project. I would like to introduce to something that you might find helpful and easy to use. When you add references to AllMusic, there is actually nice template ({{Allmusic}}) just for that use that will perfectly format the citation in the references section. Instead of typing this, <ref name="Allmusic">Yanow, S., [ Allmusic Review], accessed February 17, 2015</ref>, for example, try this: <ref name="Allmusic">{{Allmusic|first=Scott |last=Yanow |class=album |id=mw0000905794 |title=''Eastern Rebellion 4'' – Review |accessdate=February 17, 2015}}</ref>.
