The Content Review Medal of Merit

I'd like to nominate Nikkimaria (talk · contribs) for the Content Review Medal of Merit on behalf of the project. Every time I put up an A-class of FAC she's there to check the references. Great work. Hawkeye7 (talk) 11:53, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support This is an excellent nomination: Nikki has made a massive contribution to this very important, but unglamorous, side of the review process. Nick-D (talk) 12:02, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • As far as I know, the Content Review Medal of Merit can be freely awarded by anyone; it doesn't require a formal vote, so I'm not entirely sure what the point of this request is. Are you proposing that we establish a new formal awards process within the project? I wouldn't be opposed to that, but I would suggest that we create a more unique and "special" award for that rather than using one that's already in common circulation. Kirill [talk] 21:07, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • What I am proposing is that it be awarded on behalf of the project, rather than simply by myself. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:36, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I'm not sure if that really makes sense as a one-off thing, considering we've already awarded Nikkimaria the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves on essentially the same basis; simply giving her a "lower" award doesn't seem like the best approach—particularly as we do already have a precedent for awarding the Oak Leaves themselves multiple times.
      • Now, if the intent is to establish a more general principle of giving project-level awards to content reviewers (in addition to our ACM system, which is primarily oriented towards content creators), I would have no problem with that; in fact, I think we may have discussed something along those lines during one of the quarterly review awards cycles. However, as I mentioned above, I'd suggest coming up with something more unique (e.g. a Content Review Medal of Merit w/ Oak Leaves or something like that) for use as a project-level award rather than co-opting the existing one. Kirill [talk] 21:51, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
        • I agree with Kirill, although I think we should try to come up with our own name for it. :-) Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 22:31, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
          • This suggestion/discussion is a year old -- is it time to remove (perhaps to the Coord talk page for further discussion and possible action)? I don't see the point of it remaining here in this form unto perpetuity... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 00:30, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nominations for the Oak Leaves

Anotherclown

I'd like to nominate Anotherclown (talk · contribs) in recognition of his enormous contributions to articles on Australian military history (which include 5 A-class and 15 GA-class articles) and the military history of other nations as well as his massive contributions to the article assessment and review processes, not to mention his many other contributions to keeping the project running. I think that this award is long overdue given Anotherclown's impressive record and the fact that he was a runner-up in the Military historian of the Year process for 2010 and 2011. Nick-D (talk) 02:50, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Great writer and incredibly helpful with the more mundane activities.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 03:51, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support with alacrity! Indeed overdue, I'm glad to recognise with the Oak Leaves AC's great contributions to Australian Cold War history, as well as the everyday MilHist tasks -- and tks Nick for nominating. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 04:18, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Kirill [talk] 12:26, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, and wish I had thought of doing this. Thanks Nick. - Dank (push to talk) 18:31, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, definitely. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 22:20, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Thoroughly deserved Hawkeye7 (talk) 03:41, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Awarded Nick-D (talk) 10:17, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

EyeSerene

I would like to nominate EyeSerene (talk · contribs) in recognition of their work as a long-standing co-ord of the project who served in the last six tranches, and their wider contributions to Wikipedia as whole since becoming a registered user in September 2006. AustralianRupert (talk) 00:28, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support – very friendly and thoughtful, helped me settle into Wiki a lot during my first awkward months. Ma®©usBritish{chat} 00:36, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Kirill [talk] 03:08, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Eye-eye. I think I've run on in the past about your many accomplishments Eye, so I'll just offer support, and hope to see you more active here soon. - Dank (push to talk) 03:20, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support EyeSerene is an outstanding editor who's made a huge contribution to all elements of the project. Nick-D (talk) 11:41, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- excellent nom per above, and the fact that we practically always see eye to eye (pun completely unintended of course) doesn't hurt... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 01:55, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hell Yes Nuf Said.
Awarded AustralianRupert (talk) 10:01, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Parsecboy (2)

I want to nominate Parsecboy (talk · contribs) for a second WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves. He received the first Oak Leaves in July 2009 (almost four years ago) and he has created many more great articles since. The fact that he received eight A-Class medals with Swords since 2010 is indicative of his dedication to this project. I hope the coordinates second this opinion. Thanks MisterBee1966 (talk) 13:46, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support, but wait - we decided last time (SandyGeorgia) that a four-year break was enough, and that'll be in July. To say that this would be deserved would be an understatement. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 21:19, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- I think it's time to reactivate this well-deserved nom, per above. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 01:11, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Parsecboy is an outstanding editor Nick-D (talk) 08:28, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Kirill [talk] 19:27, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: Good idea. AustralianRupert (talk) 22:08, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Awarded Nick-D (talk) 11:24, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, would've awarded this myself but I thought we still needed one more vote for a majority of coords -- or am I behind the times re. that rule...? ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 11:46, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Given how long this had been open and the lack of any concerns, I decided to ignore that rule :) Nick-D (talk) 08:34, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, obviously I'm happy for the award to be made -- as long as the rule being ignored is acknowledged, it's fine by me... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 08:43, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MisterBee1966 (2)

I want to nominate MisterBee1966 (talk · contribs) for a second WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves. He received the award in February 2009 (four-and-a-half years ago) and he has created many more meticulously researched articles and lists since, including another five featured lists of Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross recipients (by my reckoning). He has received four A-Class Medals, five with Oak Leaves, and five with Swords since his first WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves, and this shows his commitment to the Military History WikiProject. He has served twice as a coordinator in that time, a six month stint in 2010 then a year in 2011–12. He has been very friendly and helpful to me when I've been working on biographies of Knight's Cross recipients that served in the Balkans, especially in locating hard-to-find details on awards, family life etc. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 13:53, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support -- good idea, it's been long enough between drinks, and we are in the month of Oktoberfest after all... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 14:21, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: agreed, good nomination. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 11:34, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support MisterBee is an outstanding editor who has made massive contributions since he last received this award. Thank you for starting this nomination Peacemaker. Nick-D (talk) 11:42, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - due credit. Anotherclown (talk) 10:39, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Kirill [talk] 11:51, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • SECONDS! :) But seriously, a well formulated nomination for a well deserving editor. TomStar81 (Talk) 03:01, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Cdtew (talk) 02:17, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Is the rule that a nomination needs a majority of coordinators? Peacemaker67 (send... over) 01:22, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yesss, but this now has support from half of 'em and has generated no dissent whatsoever after remaining open more than six weeks, plus we have the precedent of Parsec's award just above, so I'd say go for it... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 01:52, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Duly awarded. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 03:49, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you all for this token of appreciation. MisterBee1966 (talk) 08:16, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Majestic Titan Editors (IAR request)

I that this is unprecedented in the history of the award, but in accordance with the reply to a question I left Sturmvogel 66 I would like to nominate Parsecboy (talk · contribs), Cam (talk · contribs), The ed17 (talk · contribs), Dank (talk · contribs), and Saberwyn (talk · contribs) to share a Chevron with Oak Leaves award for the roles that each played in assisting with the creation of the 63-article Featured Topic Battlecruisers of the World. In making this nomination I ask the community to consider the following:

  • Each of the candidates has an equal claim to an award for the years long effort that they put into the total project by working on their corner of it,
  • Each candidate who has helped by working on this Featured Topic has made contributions of truly incredible quality or importance in the area of military history, not only by completing the single largest FT to date on Wikipedia (and in the process allowing Milhist to share in the glory of the triumph), but this is also the first time ever one Wikipedia an entire classification of ships - battlecruisers in this case - has been unconditionally at or above GA-Class,
  • In the spirit of IAR, these editors should be recognized for this outstanding accomplishment with an award, and though it is unprecedented I am asking that they be awarded a Chevron w/Oak Leaves as a group for what they accomplished.

I realize that this is the first time that such a request, and such a nomination, have been made, so I am prepared to accept a no answer if the community judges that our most prestigious award should not be handed out in this manner, however as I have said before in different ways, "nothing ventured, nothing gained."

  • Support as nominator - TomStar81 (Talk) 02:10, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: I like this idea, Tom. A very impressive body of work. Thank you to all involved. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 11:24, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Hawkeye7 (talk) 12:17, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, noting that this is also a case of IAR because two of the nominees are currently coordinators. For simplicity and consistency, should the award page list each of the five recipients individually, rather than having a single, combined listing? Kirill [talk] 01:33, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Honestly, I hadn't considered how this should be listed since I was fairly certain when I posted the nomination that it'd be shot down by now (needless to say, I'm pleasantly surprised :) I think that listing the recipients individually would be best, although listing the recipients altogether would save space and would allow for one master posting of the award rather than having the citation repeat five teams for each member. We have sometime to discuss the matter before the award is handed out, so we can solicit input from the other supporters on how best to present this. TomStar81 (Talk) 02:11, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- My first thought is that the award should be listed essentially the way it's been proposed, i.e. combined. This is after all a special variation of the award, and listing it combined makes it easier to ignore the 'no current coords' rule IMO. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 06:39, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- I agree with a combined approach. In fact, I this might be a IAR case as Tom has proposed it, but perhaps it begs the question of whether we should have a formal system for group awards of the OAK, along the lines of the teamwork barnstar (ie a cluster of wiki chevrons with oak leaves? Pieces of collaboration such as this are worthy of a unique award, I mean, a 63 article featured topic? This type of long term collaboration surely helps with retention and maintaining a long-term focus. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 08:54, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as a combined award and combined listing, so as to not go too far off the reservation while ignoring all rules. Cdtew (talk) 18:47, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hchc2009

Scanning the nominees for MHOTY, I kicked myself for not having put forward Hchc's name, but unfortunately nominations had closed by that time. Considering other possible recognition, I checked the list of Oak Leaves recipients and was surprised to find his name missing there too. Well, that's something we can definitely rectify, so I hereby nominate Hchc2009 for the Oak Leaves for his exemplary work over the years on medieval history, biographies and fortifications, as evidenced by his successful A-Class and/or Featured Article nominations for Henry I of England, John of England, Peasants' Revolt, Bastille and Windsor Castle among others, many GAs, and also for his consistent efforts as a reviewer. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:08, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Awarded Ian Rose (talk) 21:24, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sturmvogel (2)

I would like to nominate Sturmvogel for his second Oak Leaves. Sturm was awarded his first Oak Leaves over four years ago. Since that time he has continued his sterling performance as a major contributor to our WikiProject. This has included two years as a Coordinator (September 2010 to September 2012), three A-Class Medals, five A-Class Medals with Oak Leaves, and five A-Class Medals with Swords. He topped the recent February-March backlog drive, is a regular winner of the monthly contest, is a consistent and keen reviewer, and provides wise advice on various aspects of the WikiProject to all and sundry. He doesn't engage in groupthink and asks the hard questions. All in all, a real champion of MILHIST. Regards, Peacemaker67 (send... over) 14:07, 14 April 2014 (UTC) @WP:MILHIST coordinators: [reply]

  • Support -- wot a good idea, well deserved! Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 14:13, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- While he seems to remain humble, the fact is he's been an immense asset to the project for years. —Ed!(talk) 20:42, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: most certainly a deserving editor. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 23:20, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, well deserved. @WP:MILHIST coordinators: This has been open for a while, so please comment if you haven't already. Kirill [talk] 22:18, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support A well-deserved and somewhat overdue accolade. Hawkeye7 (talk) 22:21, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Well, of all things ... Kirill's notification actually caught me musing over whether to give Sturm a barnstar for his high-quality writing and copyediting ... but this is better. Gratz. - Dank (push to talk) 22:51, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The ed17

Ed is, simply, a MilHist institution. Co-opted as a coordinator in November 2008, he decided he liked the job, and only tore himself away from it when he declined to stand in the 2014–15 election just held. In November 2010 he became one half of the Bugle newsletter's first dedicated editing team, helping to put in place the format still in use today, and only left that position in September 2012 to focus on editing the Wikipedia Signpost. Along the way he's written or co-written an amazing 25 Featured Articles. Ed was a co-recipient of the (IAR) Majestic Titans Oak Leaves last year but, owing to his continuous service as a coordinator till now, this is his first nomination for a long-overdue individual award. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 14:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Awarded Ian Rose (talk) 06:51, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nick-D (2)

I nominate Nick-D for his second Oak Leaves. Nick was awarded the Oak Leaves in March 2010 at the conclusion of his last coordinatorship, a two year period from February 2008 to March 2010. Since then he has completed a second stint on the coord team, this time of three years from September 2011 to September 2014, including one year as joint lead coordinator. Since his first award, he's written (by my crappy maths), at least another 15 or so FAs, and has received two ACMs, five ACMs with Oak Leaves, and one with Swords, as well as getting buckets of GAs over the line. Nick has been a member of Operation Normandy and Operation Majestic Titan, all while continuing to work hard on articles, admin duties, editing the Bugle, and helping many with his sage and measured advice. I personally joined WP and Milhist just after Nick returned to the coord team, and benefited greatly from his advice and reviewing skills as I developed my own editing skills. Peacemaker67 (crack... thump) 07:30, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong Support' TomStar81 (Talk) 08:06, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Tks for this nom, PM. Obviously meets the "negative" criteria, i.e. no longer a coord and not less than four years since last award. The positive criteria? Just speak for themselves -- Support! Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 08:11, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support agree to everything that was said. MisterBee1966 (talk) 08:48, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adam Cuerden

@WP:MILHIST coordinators: As most of you have at this point scene, we've got end of the year awards to hand out, but ahead of that I wanted to formally nominate Adam Cuerden (talk · contribs) for a Chevron with Oak Leaves award based on the unprecedented amount of featured media he has racked up for the project. I dare say that this man is probably single handedly responsible for making sure that so many of our articles on people, places, events and equipment have accompanying images of outstanding quality that I feel he has more than earned the award on the merit of his media edits.

Ian Rose (2)

I nominate Ian Rose for his second Oak Leaves. Ian was awarded the Oak Leaves in February 2009, and he has been a coordinator ever since until he stepped down at the recent election. This has been a pretty incredible run, topped off by an outstanding year as lead coordinator in the last tranche. If he hadn't been ineligible for the award during his years as a coord, he would almost certainly have been nominated before now, based on his work on the Bugle. Nuff said.

HJ Mitchell

Harry has been editing since 2009, and is an admin and oversighter. He's also an admin on Commons. In addition to his recently concluded four years as a coordinator of Milhist, he has been a great ambassador in the UK for our project through his involvement with Wikimedia events in the UK, such as Wikimania 2014. He fights vandals and has far more patience than I (sadly, that's not saying all that much). On a personal note, among his excellent FA/FLs are two articles about British generals, firstly a much-loved brigadier and secondly, a much-feared major-general (both of whom I worked for in Bosnia). It is always handy to have admins on the Milhist team to help sort things out, and Harry is always happy to lend a hand. Peacemaker67 (crack... thump) 09:38, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nominations for the A-Class Medal

A-Class Medal nominations are initiated when an editor first achieves three successful A-class nominations, and for every third subsequent successful A-class nomination. These medal nominations need at least two coordinators' votes to succeed; the role of the second (and any subsequent) coordinators is only to verify that the editor is due to receive this medal in order to prevent accidental awards. Once an A-Class Medal has been awarded, add it to the A-Class Medal page.

I hate to cause trouble, but it appears that the ACR for SMS Mecklenburg was never added to the medal tracking list. That should displace the just-closed Mackensen class article from this ACM. Parsecboy (talk) 22:30, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, belay that - it was included in the (21) award just above, that just wasn't added to the award page (I had looked at it and saw that the Mecklenburg article wasn't listed there, but knew it went through ACR). All's well. Parsecboy (talk) 22:33, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I believe we have an adding glitch, I think Hawkeye7 fixed it. I believe this is right though, Sturm's first Diamonds. I'll go through the archives and check. Peacemaker67 (crack... thump) 14:25, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Actually, it turns out Sturm has been awarded the ACM with OL twice for the same trio, here and here. Sturm's count should actually be 20, not 21. But this is still his first Diamonds! Cheers, Peacemaker67 (crack... thump) 14:40, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
