Kriti Sanon (born 27 July 1990)[1] is an Indian model and film actress [2][3] After beginning with modelling, she made her acting debut with Sukumar's Telugu psychological thriller film 1: Nenokkadine. Her first Bollywood film was Sabbir Khan's romantic action drama Heropanti, for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.[4][5][6]

Early life and background

Sanon was born on 27 July 1990 to Rahul Sanon, a Chartered Accountant and Geeta Sanon, an Associate Professor at Delhi University.[7] She has one younger sister, Nupur Sanon. Sanon did her schooling from Delhi Public School, R K Puram and completed Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication, from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.[7]

Career

Sanon made her acting debut in 2014, with Sukumar's Telugu film 1: Nenokkadine, a psychological thriller, in which she played the role of Sameera.[8] The film generated mixed reviews from critics.[9][10] The Times of India critics stated Sanon "looks pretty" and "acts well".[11] while the reviewer at Sify.com stated that Sanon "looks gorgeous", though her performance is "okay".[12]

Later that year, Sanon made her Hindi cinema debut with Sabbir Khan's action-romance film Heropanti. The film received mixed reviews from most critics, and BoxofficeIndia.com called it a commercial success at the Indian box office.[13] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama said she "looks gorgeous and handles her part with certainty and confidence" and that she "has the trappings of a star",[14] whereas Rajeev Masand said she "looks lovely and makes an impression despite her harebrained role".[15] Srijana Das of The Times of India, criticised her emoting, calling it "more cheesy than sharp."[16] For her performance, Sanon won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.[17]

As of January 2015, Sanon has signed on for Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K.'s romantic thriller Farzi.[18] Sanon had her second Telugu release entitled Dohchay directed by Sudheer Varma in 2014.[19]

In addition to acting, Sanon is an endorser for several brands and products, including the hair product Parachute,[20] apparel brand American Swan [21] and a cola brand, among others.[22] In July 2014, Sanon launched Tissot's Quickster Football watch in multiple cities in India.[23][24]

Her most recent release is Rohit Shetty's Dilwale in which she was paired opposite Varun Dhawan.[25] In addition to that she has also been signed on by Dinesh Vijan for his directorial debut opposite Sushant Singh Rajput.
