Why is it "currently considered to be inactive"? That seems ridiculous for such an interesting subject. 173.88.246.138 (talk) 03:08, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

* I assume it was considered to be inactive because nothing was happening related to the project page/talk page in quite some time. I moved it to semi-active just now as I'm planning to spend more time working on articles here. If you have time to help out, it'd be very welcome and might help us be able to say it's an active project again! Rjhatl (talk) 09:46, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

As I understand the sources, the current destillery (article topic) was founded 1965, so the part about "The real Loch Lomond brand was founded in Glasgow in the 1840s by Gabriel Bulloch" have no support. Can I have a second opinion on this? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:56, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Old Tom gin.

Somebody please edit the Old Tom article, particularly its relationship to Dutch gin.Euonyman (talk) 18:33, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Euonyman! What changes did you had in mind? Is there a particular situation that makes it hard or uneasy for you to edit it yourself? Contributions are always welcome! Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 18:46, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Absinthiana needs some love

The article's a bit of a mess, frankly, and needs some attention--especially sourcing. Thought I'd bring it to the attention of whoever's watching here, as it's not really within my areas of expertise or interest. (Well, I'm very interested in drinking absinthe, it's delicious...)  The Potato Hose  20:36, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bacardi Superior importance

I was wondering if someone in the project could take a look at the Bacardi Superior article and see where it rates on the importance scale. I generally wouldn't go as far as asking on the project page but since Bacardi is a major brand of one of the major alcoholic bases, I figured that it might be worth bringing up. Thanks. Cat-fivetc ---- 20:51, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cat-five, while Bacardi is important (and now shown as such) one of their products isn't, in itself, important. Cabe6403(TalkSign) 13:56, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, but currently it has no rating at all (it's ???). Even unimportant articles generally get rated and I didn't/don't know enough about the Wikiproject Spirits rating system to do it myself. Cat-fivetc ---- 01:39, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The rating system is fairly informal to be honest, I've gone ahead and rated it as low importance Cabe6403(TalkSign) 07:35, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll remember that if it comes up in the future, some Wikiprojects can be, not to put too fine a point on it, defensive when it comes to their ratings which is why I asked. Thanks for rating it though. Cat-fivetc ---- 02:49, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rollcall

Hi WikiProject, I'm wondering how many people are still active. I'm planning to start some activity again, and am wondering how much is still happening around me, as there is quite a bit to do. Cheers, Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 19:15, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martijn Hoekstra, I'm around and active on Wikipedia just not particularly in this project space currently. I'm willing to assist when I can if you have a plan in mind? I would suggest we tackle the unassessed articles and get everything rated first then we can set a SMART goal to work towards. Cabe6403(TalkSign) 23:16, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It depends on the activity of the project. There is a big backlog of assessing, and I also think quite a backlog of articles that are in our scope, but aren't in the category yet. After that, we can start thinking of fun stuff. Assessment backlog drives, collaboration of the month articles, drafting lists of redlinks with priorities, maybe create some new lists or improve old ones. We have great opportunities to improve Wikipedia in this project, and I would love to get things off the ground. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 23:32, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Might be worth pinging editors who have listed themselves as partcipants as well as recent commenters here as I'm sure not many check this talk page on a regular basis. Cabe6403(TalkSign) 07:10, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to see people still wanting to put work in the project! I'd first like us to know where we stand, and make a dent in assessment (speaking of grunt work...). I want to draft an assessment drive this week still. Are there maybe people who would prefer to learn a little more about assessment first or shall we dive headlong into drafting a drive? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 10:34, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest diving in. Assessment isn't too complex and can easily be learned by doing Cabe6403(TalkSign) 12:13, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great. I set up a draft over at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spirits/Assessment Drives/September 2013. I never set up a drive, so if I'm doing things wrong or things could be done better, please be bold, and just go ahead and change things if you think that's better, discussion is optional. Leaflet for Wikiproject Spirits at Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

need table at bottom of every bourbon article

It would be nice if there were a navigational table at the bottom of every single bourbon article listing every type of bourbon

example: you go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McAfee's_Benchmark and then at the bottom there were would be a navigational table where you can select every other type of bourbon in kentucky.

There is something similar to the bourban trail navigational table, but that is only limited to certain members of an association.

Thanks for considering this! 66.210.101.146 (talk) 15:04, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Ketel One Vodka - help required

Hi, I wondered if anyone could help.

I'm a communications professional working with Ketel One Vodka and I'd like to suggest some changes to our Wikipedia page to add more insight and information.

The following changes I wish to be made are:

To be removed:
• Also known as Ketel 1

Timeline

To be amended:
1793 needs amending to: • 1794: Under the control of Jacobus Nolet (5th generation), family members build the Nolet Distillery windmill, known as 'The Whale.'
1867 needs amending to: • 1867: The Nolet family acquires an interest in shipping and begins exporting spirits.
1979 needs amending to: • 1979: Carolus Nolet Sr. (10th generation) assumes control of the Nolet Distillery.
1983 needs amending to: • 1983: Carolus Nolet Sr. develops the Ketel One recipe and launches it in the USA.
1991 needs amending to: • 1991: Nolet Spirits USA is founded, whilst Carl Nolet Jr. (11th generation) moves to the United States to dedicate himself to the growth of the company.
2000 needs amending to: • 2000: The Nolet Distillery produces a super-premium, flavoured vodka, Ketel One Citroen, which is launched in the USA.
2002 needs amending to: • 2002: Ketel One Vodka reaches the 1,000,000 case mark.
2003 needs amending to: • 2003: The first national Ketel One print advertising campaign, “Dear Ketel One Drinker”, launches in the USA.

To be added:
2009: The first television campaign for Ketel One Vodka launched in the USA.
2010: A new orange-flavoured vodka, Ketel One Oranje, is launched in the USA.

To be removed:
2011: Ketel One Worldwide has grown the brand to 2,000,000 cases. Ketel One is now sold in over 50 countries

Would anyone be able to help with this? It really would be appreciated.

Thanks!

AdamF Grayling (talk) 15:03, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the "Ketel 1" statement since it's unsourced anyway, but the entire Timeline needs to go because it's plagiarized from the company website and is a copyright violation. We cannot accept copyrighted text as part of Wikipedia articles. The text is promotional in nature anyway—Wikipedia is not for marketing and promotional purposes. I do appreciate you declaring your position, and encourage you to review Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and WP:PAY in particular. --Laser brain (talk) 15:16, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)Hi Adam. Thanks for reaching out suggesting improvements as well as declaring your conflict of interest. The current article we have is an unholy mess, I completely agree with your there. I don't mind working on it to attempt to bring it to a more reasonable state. Currently, the articles greatest problems are firstly that it's entirely unreferenced; it's in dire need of reliable sources, independent of the company/brand that give significant coverage about the subject, and speaking of the subject, the article seems to conflate Nolet (the org), Ketel One/Ketel 1 (the brand name) and Ketel One vodka (the product) to the point where it is unclear what the article is actually about. Re-focussing the article is probably a good idea, with Nolet as the likeliest target, since it's the central subject. If the need arises we can always spin out articles. Until then, redirecting the other titles is probably a good idea. The best thing you can do to help, is finding sources. Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources is a good guide to get a feel of what we're looking for. Kind regards, Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 15:18, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As for the quick basics, is it correct that Ketel One is a brand name owned by Ketel One U.S.A., which is 50/50 jointly owned by the Nolet group (through Nolet International B.V.) and Diageo? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 16:29, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ketel One Vodka - page edit

I'm doing some work on improving this article after it got stripped down for promotional tone (my COI disclosure can be found on the talk page). I'm not trying to restore the promotional content by any means, and I'd appreciate any feedback from WP Spirits in helping maintain a neutral tone, as well as create something that falls in line with a standard WP Spirits article style, if such a thing exists. Any input is always greatly appreciated.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 19:54, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Medronho

the following citation:

"Aguardente de Medronhos is very popular with ordinary people, such as farmers and fishermen, and often drunk for breakfast to wake the spirits[citation needed]. A commercial derivative, sweetened with honey and flavoured with herbs, is sold under the brand name Brandymel.[1][2]"

could be considered offensive, where farmers and fishermen are depicted as ordinary. The statement doesn't add any relevant information to the citation and is just judgmental.

And this beverage is also consumed as a digestive, after a hefty meal.

How best to refer to a product line?

When titling sections detailing a spirit company's products, is there a preferred section title? I've seen "Bottlings" and "Products" most commonly, (see Courvoisier, Remy Martin, and Courvoisier, for example) but I'm curious if WP:SPIRITS has a preference, official or otherwise.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 19:41, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template Transclude lead excerpt.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   11:01, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've been creating articles like gin cocktail, but the category naming system that was already set up was, e.g., Category:Cocktails with gin. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Inactive

If you have time to help out, it'd be very welcome and might help us be able to say it's an active project again! Rjhatl (talk) 09:46, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
