Unclear info?

"The eighteenth named storm, tenth hurricane, and second major hurricane of the year, Sandy was a Category 3 storm at its peak intensity when it made landfall in Cuba.[3]"

This is a bit unclear, because later it says that the Hurricane first made landfall in Jamaica. I've seen multiple sources which agree with that, too. Can someone edit that to make it more clear?

The sentence isn't about its first landfall. It refers to the storm's peak wind speed, which it attained just before its second landfall, which was in Cuba. TornadoLGS (talk) 02:13, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, agreed. I had just tried to post the same thing, when an edit conflict alerted me that you, TornadoLGS, beat me to it. The sentence is clear enough to me. --Alan W (talk) 02:19, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hurricane Sandy's image

There's been edit warring following this, so I'll clear it up: The current image for Hurricane Sandy is October 24th. That's at it's Jamaica landfall. Sandy's peak intensity was on October 25th, the previous image. So either we change "Hurricane Sandy at peak intensity just before landfall in Cuba on October 25" to something like "Hurricane Sandy intensifying prior to it's Jamaica landfall on October 24th", or change the image back to the October 25th image. Hurricanehuron33 (talk) 11:27, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should ignore the standard for what we usually do and have a pic of Sandy nearing the northeast US. That final landfall is what caused $70 billion in damage, and the tag could be something about it being the largest Atlantic Hurricane on record. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 12:25, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicting Data (Damage Costs)

In the 2nd sentence it currently states there was nearly $70 billion in damages in the US. However in the last paragraph before “Meteorological History” it says $65 billion. The later of the 2 provides a reference.

I know the $ amts are similar, but given they are both listed on the same Wiki page I think data should be congruent to ensure there’s no ambiguity. Herenow44 (talk) 02:30, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Herenow44: the $70 billion in the lede is a rounded up total for damage across the entire path in USD while the $65 billion is just for the US. I've tweaked the lead to make this more clear. ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 02:37, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Cyclonebiskit: Thanks for the help and clarification! Your response time was impressive to say the least. Given you likely have considerably more exp on Wiki than me, do you have any idea how/why the 2 reference sources listed at the bottom of my post got there? I’m guessing they relate to a previous users post from this talk page? Either way was confused why they appeared in mine. Thanks Again! Herenow44 (talk) 03:08, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Herenow44: Yes, you're right, those footnotes are notes to somebody's comments further up the page. I don't like it either. I have a fair amount of Wiki experience but I couldn't figure out a way to make the notes apply only to the section they refer to. I once tried to argue with somebody about this, to no avail. It could be that there are technical obstacles that make changing this difficult. To me, it's not worth the trouble to try to get this changed. This happens only on talk pages, after all. If you want to, you can post a question or request that this be changed. Not sure where, but if you're really intent on pursuing this, maybe I can figure out the best place you can post to, unless someone else here has a better idea. --Alan W (talk) 03:26, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And, as you see, now the footnotes follow my comments. :-) --Alan W (talk) 03:28, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Herenow44 and Alan W: the template you're looking for is {{Reflist-talk}}. I've gone ahead and added it to the section that has the refs. ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 03:32, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, Cyclonebiskit! I was unaware of that template. Maybe it didn't exist when I had that discussion. Looks like we aren't the only ones bothered by those footnotes dropped to the bottom of the page. The page looks much better now. --Alan W (talk) 03:38, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
