This list of traffic collisions records serious road crashes: those that have a large death toll, occurred in unusual circumstances, or have some other historical significance, which are notable and have their own Wikipedia article. For crashes that killed notable people, refer to List of people who died in traffic collisions. The prevalence of bus crashes in this list is a function of severity rather than of frequency. This list records crashes from the year 2000. For earlier crashes see: List of traffic collisions (before 2000).

- March 28 – United States – A Murray County School District school bus with 7 students was hit by a 33-car CSX freight train at Liberty Church Rd. Crossing on Tennga,Georgia killing 3 Elementary school students(2 died at the scene,1 died on hospital the next day) and injuring 4 others.
- August 28 – Nigeria – Abuja bus crash riots, Abuja, Nigeria. Seventy people are killed in a bus pile up in Abuja. The next day, related protest riots kill four more people.
- November 5 – Nigeria – Ibadan road tanker explosion, Ibadan, Nigeria. Between 100 and 200 people are killed when a petrol tanker loses control, slams into a traffic jam and explodes.
2001
- February 28 – United Kingdom – Great Heck rail crash, Selby, England. Car driven off the M62 motorway near a bridge onto railway tracks, causing the derailment of a passenger train and its subsequent collision with a freight train.
- March 5 – Portugal – Hintze Ribeiro disaster, Castelo de Paiva, Portugal. A bridge collapsed as a bus was crossing the Douro in Portugal, killing 59 people.[1]
2002
- May 26 – United States – I-40 bridge disaster, Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. 14 people died and 11 others were injured on Interstate 40, when a barge collided with a bridge support, causing a 580-foot section of the bridge to plunge into the Arkansas River.
2003
- May 1 – South Africa – Bethlehem bus crash, Bethlehem, South Africa. 51 people died when the driver drove off a dam and into a reservoir.[2]
- June 4 – India – Kasganj level crossing disaster, Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh. 30 people died when a bus attempted to cross a closed level crossing in India and was sliced in half by a train.
- July 10 – Hong Kong – July 2003 Tuen Mun Road bus accident. 21 passengers were killed when a bus plunged off a bridge following a collision with a lorry.[3]
- October 8 – Indonesia – 2003 East Java bus crash. An container truck loses its controls and collided with a bus head-on near Situbondo. Then another truck collided with the rear-end of the bus.The collision set the bus on fire, and 54 people were killed in the deadliest road accident in Indonesia.
- November 23 – Malaysia – Merapoh bus tragedy, near the Pahang-Kelantan border. 14 passengers were killed in a bus tragedy at kilometer 63 of Lipis and Merapoh roads (Federal Route 8) near Merapoh, Pahang.
2004
- March 19 – Finland – Konginkangas bus disaster, Äänekoski, Finland. 23 people killed.
- April 11 – England – 2004 Ingoldmells bus crash, Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire. A double-decker bus collides with pedestrians in the seaside resort of Ingoldmells on the busiest day of the year, killing five people.

- February 3 – India – Nagpur level crossing disaster, Nagpur, Maharashtra. 55 wedding guests die when a crowded trailer being towed by a tractor was hit by a train.
- April 27 – Sri Lanka – Polgahawela level crossing accident, Polgahawela. Over 50 people were killed when a bus is hit by train.
- June 7 – Nepal – Badarmude bus explosion, Badarmude. 38 people were killed when a bus struck a land mine.
2006
- February 18 – Australia – Cardross road crash, Cardross, Victoria. Six people were killed in a hit and run crash where a car hit a group of pedestrians.
- April 17 – Mexico – Maltrata bus crash, Maltrata. 57 people die in a bus crash.
- June 23 – Egypt – Sinai bus crash, between Nuweiba and Taba. 11 Arab Israeli tourists are killed when their bus overturns.
- September 30 – Canada – De la Concorde overpass collapse, Laval, Quebec. Five are killed and six injured when a 65-feet section of a 3-lanes overpass over Autoroute 19 collapsed.[4]
- November 13 – South Africa – Faure level crossing accident, Faure near Somerset West. A truck carrying workers is hit by a train. 19 are killed and 6 injured.
- November 20 – United States – 2006 Huntsville bus crash, Huntsville, Alabama. 4 high school students were killed and 23 injured when a school bus went over the side of an elevated portion of Interstate 565.[5]
2007
- January 6 – Bangladesh – Comilla bus crash, Comilla. A bus travelling from Dhaka to Chittagong crashes and catches fire, killing from 55 to 70 people.
- March 2 – United States – Bluffton University bus crash, Atlanta, Georgia. 7 people are killed when a bus transporting the Bluffton University baseball team crashes through a barrier and lands on Interstate 75.
- August 1 – United States – I-35W Mississippi River Bridge Collapse, Minneapolis, Minnesota 13 people killed. The structure and deck collapsed into the river and onto the riverbanks below.
- November 4 – Azerbaijan – Baku–Gazakh motorway minibus crash, Qaradağ Raion, Baku, Azerbaijan. A minibus, carrying twenty persons, slammed into a parked truck laden with stones. 14 died and four were injured.[6]
2008
- April 19 – Spain – Benalmádena coach crash, Benalmádena, Spain. 38 injured and 9 killed after an SUV collided with a bus full of tourists while trying to overtake it.[7]
- February 19 – United States – Cottonwood, Minnesota bus crash, Cottonwood, Minnesota. A school bus was struck on its passenger side by a minivan that drove through a stop sign which caused the bus to fall over onto a pickup truck killing four students and injuring 17.
- December 14 – Egypt – 2008 Egyptian bus accident, Dahrut, Egypt. A bus plunged into an irrigation ditch while traveling from Cairo to Minya killing at least fifty-five and injuring ten.
- December 16 – Israel – 2008 Israeli tour bus crash, southern Israel. 25 killed and 30 injured after a bus crashes off the road and rolls down a ravine between Ovda and Eilat in Israel. It is the deadliest traffic accident in Israel's history.[8][9]
2009
- May 28 – Bulgaria – 2009 Yambol bus crash, Yambol. 18 killed with a least 20 injured after a bus crashes into a group of pedestrians.[10]
- July 24 – Russia – 2009 Rostov-on-Don bus crash, Rostov Oblast. At least 21 people were killed when a bus collided with a petrol tanker.
- July 26 – United States – 2009 Taconic State Parkway crash, Mount Pleasant, New York. Eight were killed, including the driver, and three were injured when a driver travels the wrong way for 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi) on the Taconic State Parkway in New York State before crashing head-on into a sport utility vehicle.[11]
- August 14 – Romania – Scânteia train accident, Scânteia, Iași County. At least 14 people died after a bus-train collision on County Road 248C.[12]

- February 13 – Nigeria – Nigerian bus electrocutions, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. A power line broke, striking two buses and electrocuting the occupants, killing eleven.[13]
- February 22 – Peru – 2010 Peru bus crash, Virú, Peru. Two buses collided head-on on the Panamerican Highway resulting in at least 38 deaths and the injury of 58.[14]
- July 2 – Democratic Republic of Congo – Catastrophe of Sange, South Kivu. A fuel tanker overturned and exploded, creating a fireball that devastated the town of Sange in South Kivu province. The preliminary death toll placed the number of dead at 220, with 111 injured, though the numbers later increased.[15]
- October 12 – Ukraine – Marhanets train accident, Marhanets, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. A bus ran a red light and crossed a railroad crossing before getting hit by a train, resulting in 43 dead and 9 injured.[16]
- December 20 – Malaysia – 2010 Cameron Highlands bus crash, Blue Valley in the Cameron Highlands. Twenty-seven people, mostly Thai tourists, were killed when the double-decker bus they were traveling in crashed at the Second East–West Highway of the Perak–Pahang state border. Until 2013, the worst traffic accident in Malaysian history.[17]

- March 12 – United States – World Wide Tours bus crash, Bronx, New York. A bus crashed on Interstate 95 killing 15 people.[18]
- October 2 – China – A bus fell into a ravine and ended up in a river below the highway at Hubei Province,Central China killing 16 and injuring 19.
- November 4 – England – 2011 M5 motorway crash, near Taunton, Somerset. A 34-vehicle crash near Taunton, England on the M5 motorway resulted in 7 dead and 51 injured.[19][20]
2012
- March 13 – Switzerland – Sierre coach crash, Sierre, Switzerland. A coach carrying school teachers and pupils crashed into a wall in the Sierre Tunnel. Of the 52 people on board, 28 were killed in the crash.[21]
- April 20 – Mexico – Álamo bus accident, Alamo, Veracruz. A trailer truck collides with an overloaded passenger bus, 43 killed, 17 seriously injured.[22]
- July 12 – Nigeria – Okobie road tanker explosion, Okobie. A road tanker overturned and exploded; the death toll was initially placed at 95.[23]
- August 26 – China – Shaanxi bus–tanker crash, Yan'an, Shaanxi. A double-decker sleeper bus and a tanker loaded with methanol collided and burst into flames resulting in 36 deaths.[24]
2013
- May 7 – Mexico – 2013 Ecatepec de Morelos gas tanker explosion, Ecatepec de Morelos, State of Mexico. A tank truck driver lost control and ran into several cars and houses before the truck exploded on Federal Highway 85. 27 people were killed and more than 30 injured.[25]
- June 23 – Montenegro – 2013 Podgorica bus crash, near Morača Monastery, Kolašin Municipality. A bus carrying Romanian tourists plunged into a ravine, killing 19 and injuring 28.
- July 13 – Russia – 2013 Oznobishino bus crash, Oznobishino, Moscow Oblast. A truck carrying gravel collided at high speed with a bus. At least 18 people died and 60 were injured.
- July 28 – Italy – 2013 Monteforte Irpino bus crash, Monteforte Irpino, Italy. A tour bus returning from a pilgrimage went off the highway into a ravine, killing 39 and injuring 19.[26]
- August 21 – Malaysia – 2013 Genting Highlands bus crash, Genting Highlands, Pahang. A bus carrying 53 passengers crashed into a ravine. 37 were killed and 16 injured, in the deadliest road accident in Malaysia.[27]
- September 5 – South Africa – 2013 Pinetown crash, Pinetown. An articulated truck drove through a red light at high speed, killing 27 people and injuring at least 80.[28]
- September 18 – Canada – 2013 Ottawa bus–train crash, Ottawa, Ontario. A double-decker bus and a passenger train collided, killing 6 and injuring 35.[29]
- October 12 – Peru – 2013 Peru bus disaster, Santa Teresa District. A makeshift bus carrying 51 Quechua Indians plunged off a cliff and ended up in the Cachimayo River, killing everyone on board. Tied with the 2018 Pasamayo bus crash as the deadliest road crash in Peruvian history.[30]
- October 19 – Philippines – 2013 Atimonan road crash, Atimonan, Quezon. Three buses and four trucks collided, 20 killed and 54 injured.[31]
- October 30 – India – 2013 Mahabubnagar bus accident, Mahabubnagar District, Andhra Pradesh. A bus hit a culvert, damaging its fuel tank and causing a fire, killing 45 people and injuring 7.[32]
- December 16 – Philippines – 2013 Manila Skyway bus accident, between Parañaque and Taguig. A bus fell off the Metro Manila Skyway, killing 18 and injuring 20.[33]
2014
- February 4 – Ukraine – 2014 Ukraine train bus collision, Sumy Oblast. A bus was hit by a train killing 13 and injuring 6.
- April 10 – United States – a FedEx semi-truck pulling 2-trailers collided with a tour bus carrying High School students at Interstate 5 in California,Orland, California,Northern California,both caught fire killing 10 people and injuring dozens,Interstate 5 were closed temporarily after the accident and traffic were diverted into Highway 32.
- April 13 – Mexico – Acayucan bus crash, Juan Rodriguez Clara. A bus traveling from Villahermosa to Mexico City collided with a broken-down truck and caught fire. 36 were killed and 4 injured.[34]
- November 11 – Pakistan – 2014 Khairpur bus crash, Khairpur. A bus collided with a truck, killing 56.[35]
- December 22 – Scotland – 2014 Glasgow bin lorry crash, Glasgow. When a bin lorry driver passed out at the wheel in George Square the vehicle mounted the pavement, killing 6 and injuring 15.[36]
2015
- January 10 – Pakistan – 2015 Sindh road accident, Sindh, Pakistan. An oil tanker travelling on the wrong side of the road collided with a bus, killing at least 62.[37]
- February 3 – United States – Valhalla train crash, Valhalla, New York. An SUV collided with a commuter train at a grade crossing; six were killed and 15 injured.
- March 11 – Tanzania – 2015 Tanzania road accident, Iringa Region. A bus and two trucks collided, resulting in 41 dead and 25 injured.[38]
- March 24 – Peru – 2015 Peru bus accident, Carretera Panamericana. A bus crashed into traffic, killing at least 37 and injuring 70.
- June 17 – Portugal – Algarve. A bus traveling on the A22 highway near Algarve, Portugal drove off the road into a gully, killing four Dutch tourists and injuring thirty other passengers.[39]
- October 23 – France – Puisseguin road crash, Puisseguin. A bus carrying elderly day-trippers hit a truck head-on and caught fire, killing 43.[40]
- December 14 – Argentina – 2015 Argentina road accident, Rosario de la Frontera. A bus carrying Argentine frontier police plunged off a bridge in rural northern Argentina, killing 43 and injuring 8.[41]
2016
- February 6 – Nepal – Pasang Lhamu bus crash. A bus fell off the Keurini cliff into a ravine, killing 11 and injuring 12.[42]
- February 18 – Ghana – Bus collision in February 2016, Ghana. Head-on collision between a bus and a truck, 53 killed and at least 23 injured.[43]
- March 20 – Spain – Erasmus bus crash, Valencia. A bus carrying Erasmus students of 19 countries from the Fallas Festival in Valencia collided with a car on the Autovía A-7 motorway, near the town of Freginals. 13 students were killed, all female.[44]
- May 8 – Afghanistan – May 2016 Afghanistan road crash, Moqor district, Ghazni province. Two buses collided with a fuel tanker, killing 73 and injuring 50.[45]
- May 15 – United States – Laredo bus crash,Laredo. A charter bus travelling northbound in Highway 83,South of Dimmit-Webb County line,North of Laredo,South Texas. It was raining at that time when the bus loses controls and overturned in Highway 83,Laredo,South Texas. The crash killed 8 and injuring 44.
- June 7 – United States – In the Kalamazoo bicycle crash a pickup truck crashed into a group of cyclists killing 5 and injuring 4.
- July 19 – Taiwan – 2016 Taoyuan bus fire, Taoyuan. A tour bus caught fire killing all 26 on board.[46]
- August 15 – Nepal – 2016 Nepal bus crashes, Birtadeurali, Kavrepalanchok District. In the first of two bus crashes on the same day in Nepal, a 35-seater bus carrying some 90 people stalled and rolled backwards off the road, falling more than 300 metres (980 ft). 27 to 33 people were killed and 38 to 42 injured.[47][48]
- August 15 – Nepal – 2016 Nepal bus crashes, Siddheshwar, Baitadi District. In the second of two bus crashes on the same day in Nepal, a bus slipped off of a high mountain road, falling 200 metres (660 ft) and killing 4 and injuring 30.[49][50]
- August 19 – United States – 2 NJ Transit buses collided at an intersection of Raymond Boulevard and Broad Street,Newark, New Jersey killing 2 people and injuring 19.
- September 3 – Afghanistan – September 2016 Afghanistan road crash, Zabul Province. A bus collided with a fuel tanker, killing 38 and injuring 28.[51]
- October 23 – United States – 2016 Interstate 10 tour bus crash, California. A tour bus collided with the back of a stationary semi-trailer truck, killing 13 and injuring 31.[52]
- November 1 – United States – a yellow school bus was travelling eastbound on Fredrick Avenue,Baltimore when it hit a Ford Mustang,Then hit a pillar at Loudon Park Cemetery. The bus then continued to oncoming traffic and collided with an MTA bus. 6 people were killed and 11 were injured in the accident.
- November 21 – United States – 2016 Chattanooga school bus crash, Chattanooga, Tennessee. A school bus carrying 37 elementary students crashed, killing 6 and injuring 32.[53]
2017
- January 21 – Italy – 2017 Verona bus crash, Verona. A bus carrying school children from Hungary crashed and caught fire on the A4 near Verona a few minutes after midnight. 17 people were killed and 25 injured.[54]
- February 20 – Philippines – 2017 Tanay bus accident, Tanay, Rizal. A tourist bus carrying more than 50 passengers lost control and hit an electric post in Barangay Sampaloc. 15 people were killed and 40 injured.[55]
- February 18 – Johor Bahru, Malaysia – 8 teenage cyclists were killed when hit by a car at the Middle Ring Road.[56]
- April 18 – Philippines – 2017 Nueva Ecija bus accident, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija. A 45-seater bus carrying 77 passengers fell into a ravine, killing 31 and injuring 46.[57]
- June 25 – Pakistan – 2017 Bahawalpur explosion, near Ahmedpur East, Bahawalpur A tanker truck overturned and began leaking its cargo of petrol, which people gathered to collect. 219 were killed and at least 34 injured when it exploded.[58]
- August 11 – China – A bus slammed into the wall at Qinling Tunnel,Xi'an-Hanzhong Expressway on Ankang,Shaanxi Province,Northwestern China. The crash killed 36 people and injuring 13.
- December 14 – France – Perpignan crash, Perpignan. A train crashed into a school bus on a level crossing between Millas and Saint-Féliu-d'Amont in the Arrondissement of Perpignan. Six pupils were killed and 24 injured.[59]
2018
- January 2 – Peru – 2018 Pasamayo bus crash. A coach plunged off a cliff on a coastal road in Peru, killing 51. Tied with the 2013 Peru bus disaster as the deadliest road crash in Peruvian history.[60]
- January 18 – Kazakhstan – 2018 Aktobe bus fire, Aktobe. A bus carrying Uzbek migrant workers caught fire, killing 52.[61]
- February 10 – Hong Kong – 2018 Hong Kong bus accident. A double-decker bus overturned in the New Territories area. 19 people were killed and 65 injured.[62]
- April 6 – Canada – Humboldt Broncos bus crash: Sixteen people were killed and 13 others injured when a semi-trailer truck and a bus carrying a junior ice hockey team collided near Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Canada.[63]
- April 22 – North Korea – 2018 North Korea bus accident: A bus in North Hwanghae Province, North Korea transporting Chinese tourists fell off a bridge, killing 32 Chinese tourists and 4 North Koreans.[64]
- May 17 – United States – 2 people are killed after a school bus collided with a dump truck on Interstate 80 in New Jersey.
- May 25 – Uganda – 2018 Kiryandongo bus accident: A bus in Kiryandongo District collided with the rear a tractor travelling without lights at night, and then hit a truck head-on. At least 22 were killed, including four children, and 15 injured.[65]
- September 12 – India – Jagitial district of Telangana. An overcrowded bus rolled into a gorge, killing at least 57 people and injuring 31.[66]
- October 6 – United States – Schoharie limousine crash A stretch limousine failed to stop at an intersection, killing all 18 in the vehicle and two pedestrians.[67]
- October 28 – China – 2018 Chongqing bus crash: A bus with 15 passengers plunged off Wanzhou Yangtze River Bridge into the Yangtze River after a passenger attacked the driver for missing her stop. 13 bodies were recovered, two remain missing.[68]

- January 11 – Canada – 2019 Westboro station bus crash: A double-decker bus swerved and hit a bus shelter on approach to Westboro Station in Ottawa, Ontario, tearing off part of the upper deck. Three passengers were killed and 23 injured.
- April 17 – Portugal – 2019 Madeira bus crash: A tour bus carrying German tourists plunged off a road on Madeira island, killing 29 and injuring 27.
- April 25 – United States – 2019 Lakewood semi-truck crash: A runaway semi-truck crashed into traffic on Interstate 70 in Colorado, killing 4 and injuring 10.
- June 23 – China – A bus carrying a group of teachers toppled over to its right side after hitting the side of an expressway in Qingyuan City,Guangdong Province. Killing 3 people and injuring 9.
- October 5 – Romania – Sfântu Gheorghe minibus accident: A minibus was hit by a truck driving on the wrong side of the road, killing 10 and injuring 8.
- December 18 – Hong Kong – A double-decker bus slammed into a tree that teared off the roof of the bus on Fanling Highway,New Territories. The crash resulted in 6 deaths and 39 injured.

- January 5 – United States – January 5, 2020 Pennsylvania Turnpike crash: Icy conditions caused a tour bus to turn over and a chain reaction of other vehicles to crash. 5 people died and 60 others were injured.
- April 23 – Australia – 2020 Eastern Freeway truck crash: A drunk driver on Melbourne's Eastern Freeway ploughs into four police officers during a traffic stop, killing them instantly, after he swerved onto the emergency lane.
- July 7 – China – Anshun bus crash: A local bus plunged into the Hongshan Reservoir. 21 people died and 16 others were injured.

- June 18 – Peru – At 3.00 Local time. A bus traveling from Ayacucho to Arequipa fell into a 250-metres deep ravine at Interoceanic Highway,Ayacucho Region,Southern Peru. The crash killed 27 people and injuring several people.
- November 5 – Freetown fuel tanker explosion : a collision between a petrol fuel tanker and a lorry at a busy junction of Freetown resulted in an explosion and a fire that resulted in 151 deaths and 304 injuries.

- January 7 – Palestine – 2022 West Bank bus crash[72],a traffic collision between a truck and minibus killed 8 people and injured 2 others in the West Bank. The crash occurred at Petzal Junction on Highway 90
- January 29 – United States – A collision between a speeding driver in a Dodge Challenger and multiple other vehicles in North Las Vegas, Nevada resulted in 9 deaths, including 4 children. Alcohol and 2 types of drugs were found in the offending driver's autopsy.[73]
- February 7 – Indonesia – A tour bus carrying factory workers on their way to a beach loses its brakes while descending down a steep hill,the driver tries to avoid several vehicles from the opposite direction but hit a hillside and crashed on Bantul, Yogyakarta,Central Java,Java island killing 13 people and injuring 46.[1]
- March 27 - United States - Four people in Salem, Oregon were killed at a homeless encampment after being struck by a driver in a sports coupe. Alcohol may have been a factor, according to police. The driver was arrested and faces multiple charges, including 4 counts of first-degree manslaughter.[74]
