Hi Kww. Please discuss your reasoning for the changes you are making to the Opposition to Water Fluoridation page on the talk page. Thanks. Petergkeyes (talk) 19:09, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FERROL

Will you be kind enough to explain to me why you a protecting this FERROL entry please? User:Attilios has demonstrated very poor knowledge of “FERROL” and not just that, but very poor geographical knowledge in general of MODERN GEOGRAPHY!! He claims to have a degree in engineering and possibly he does... but he is definitely NOT a geographer!! And his corrections in this entry are totally bias and more than just fruit of bad faith I am going to say they are fruit of his luck of geographical expertise!! And then you are contributing to allow his badly form corrections to this entry to prevail!!! … O.o In all honesty, I cannot believe that you are part of this Free encyclopaedia project because you are contributing with your attitude and actions to justify the attacks suffered by WIKIPAEDIA in recent years by the education establishment and other institutions to do with the world of knowledge who say that <<This encyclopaedia lucks rigor and it shouldn’t be used for academic research because it’s totally unreliable!!>> I am in professional contact with some of these institutions and believe me even though I used to defend this encyclopaedia you are making VERY DIFUCULT TO DEFEND WHATS BEGINNING TO BE TOTALLY UNDEFENDABLE!! … Will you please stop it now and keep the entry as it was before “ATTILOS the HUN” started messing about with the whole entry ruining the work of so many others!! THANKS!!--Gladys Tuffnell (talk) 18:15, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The FERROL entry in the Section to do with the economy used to say this:
  1. Primary IndustriesAgriculture (Horse Breeding), Aquaculture (Fish Farming), Fishing (Specializing in the Atlantic Shoals), Important Mines (ENDESA), NTFP (Forest Harvest), Quarries and Timber.
  2. Secondary IndustriesShipbuilding, Ship Engines, Turbines (Wind Mills and Ships), Electrical Equipment, Ironworks, Fashion (Textiles), Food (Canned Fish) and Wood-Made Products.
  3. Tertiary IndustriesMercantile, Fishing and Military Ports, Restaurants, News Media (Ferrol TV/Diario de Ferrol), Hotels (Barceló Almirante/Pazo Libunca), Leisure and Tourism (World Surf Competitions, Popular Transatlantic Steamships Stop), Consulting, Health Care/Hospitals (Arquitecto Marcide Hospital Complex), Education (Schools, Colleges/ESENGRA and Universities/UNED/PERITOS) and Public Utilities, Franchises (main brand names and designer label's shops), Wholesale (Navy Suppliers/Anton-Martin) and Retail Industries (El Corte Inglés/Alcampo).
  4. Quaternary Sector IndustriesNaval, Electrical and Mechanical Equipment together with New Technologies (Galician Centre for Innovations and Services CIS-FERROL).

NOW LOOK WHAT IT SAYS INSTEAD!! USER ATTILOS IS JUST AN IGNORANT!!! @_@ --Gladys Tuffnell (talk) 18:22, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rap-up - how reliable?

Hi,
how reliable a source is Rap-Up in your experience? Currently an issue at Recovery (Eminem album). I remember they sometimes get things wrong, e.g. when they recently declared Rihanna's "Rockstar 101" a single, but so did MTV, so it might not have been their fault. The only time Rap-Up was discussed at the RNS it was called reliable. What's your experience/opinion (or what do your stalkers think)?

Genieofmusic

Hello Kevin, I did as you advised us and wrote a nice sized explanation on his talk page, something GenieOFbritney did as well. This user did not even bother responding to our explanations, making it impossible to try and reason with him. Please take action, he continues to vandalize Britney Spears pages by adding a fansite as her Official Record or Bio site. Please help.--PeterGriffinTalk 03:15, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the moment your protections diminished he went to the pages and replaced the current revision with the LiveNation source, and replaced it with the BS Weekly source which we discussed. As you can see here, we have both made attempts to reason with him as you advised us. He however, has not responded or made any attempt to fix the problem, he just blindly reverts the changes you warned about.--PeterGriffinTalk 03:22, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Kevin, I appreciate it.--PeterGriffinTalk 03:28, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alright Kevin, my mistake. I seem to sometimes forget vandalism is the intent of causing damage to Wikipedia. I would also like to ask your opinion on the problems we have been having with the sources. Which one do you deem more reliable?--PeterGriffinTalk 04:27, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't understand how you could side with a fansite over a major ticket sales site. While LiveNation may not be Reuters, it's not a fansite that Iv'e never heard of being a fan of Britney Spears. And about the lower numbers, I don't see a reason to believe lower figures especially if your not familiar with the artist. Thanks anyway.--PeterGriffinTalk 11:21, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I understand where your coming from, but I would definitely trust LiveNation versus Amazon, and especially against a fansite.--PeterGriffinTalk 16:57, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thank you so much for protecting the page. Things were getting rather annoying. SnapSnap 21:23, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Celebration

Can you explain me how the Scottish chart is a subset of UK charts? If it is a real chart, then shouldn't it be noted in WP:GOODCHARTS? --Legolas (talk2me) 03:35, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I get your point. Then we should have a discussion at WP:CHARTS, because the subset thing sounds like someone sating that France and Germany are a subset of the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:46, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Eurocharts

Responding to your note about adding Eurochart Top 100 to articles like Rude Boy (song): No, it doesn't look especially reliable to me (domain seems to be named for the guy, Olaf, who runs it...), but I added it to Rude Boy because of the confusion between what turned out to be two different European charts. WP seems to accept the name Eurochart, so I gathered it had some history. In fact, both Eurochart Hot 100 Singles and Eurochart Hot 100 as previously shown on that article redirect to European Hot 100 Singles, which (in the lede, at least) is the Billboard chart. The ref link for that line went to BB, so I went to find out if there was a non-BB "Eurochart" in existence, or it was just another name for the same chart. That's when I found the OLJO site.

I see there was some Charts confusion earlier (2007-08), but it didn't appear to resolve my questions. Do you think that "Eurochart" is an obsolete moniker for BB's good chart? Or was it always an unreliable source? And: should it be added to BADCHARTS?

Looking at European Hot 100 Singles, I see several "Eurocharts" mentioned in the History section. I frankly can't tell what it's all supposed to mean. It ends with a crippled sentence that hints that... well, I still can't tell.

In future, I can just quash anything claiming to be "Eurochart", and if it appears to be pointing to Bilboard's European Hot 100 I can rename the label. How does that strike you? — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 11:43, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hetoum

Hi, I have replied to your comment here. If a comment made in the administrators' noticeboard is enough suspicion to request a check; then any new user can be checked in case they are a banned user. I am neither of those two users. If it's about checking they are using another sock, good..., them and their sock should be checked to see if my name comes up. But there is absolutly no reason to brake my privacy by directly checking me. I already explained that I have been using this account and not my primary account so that my primary account is not associated with controversial subjects. I have all the rights in the world to do that and this regardless of the likings of Grandmaster. If a CU is run with my name, I will complain to the owner of Wikipedia. I have already said that I will stop contributing in the administrators' noticeboard. I was even not contributing in those controversial articles anyway. Ionidasz (talk) 16:44, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'd appreciate you reply to this: there's reasonable suspicion that Ionidasz is Hetoum I, you're an administrator and your words may have an influence in the Clerk decision. If there is a reasonable suspicion I'd like to know on what this sitatment is based on. Tks. Ionidasz (talk) 18:05, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

Jivesh has come a long way since his blocks, and I've been trying to impress the importance of sources and good edit summaries on him. It would be nice if we could avoid edits like this one, where you reverted him without explanation. It's hard for him to figure out why his edit had problems if no explanation is given, and that leads to him reverting to edit-warring.—Kww(talk) 16:49, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I had explained the reason for my edit in my edit summary yesterday when I reverted him, but he either ignored it or hadn't seen it. Orane (talk) 17:33, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty certain it's the Nimbley6 troll. There's a community ban in place, but blocking is only ever a temporary measure - they have a dynamic IP address, and a range block would be too broad (their ISP is, I believe Opal Telecom, part of Carphone Warehouse, a major UK telco).

Now that Holywood56 is blocked, is there anything I can help with by way of clean-up? I've been back on Wikipedia for 2/3 weeks or so, and I've been monitoring their edits since then, but the latest sock-puppet account has been active since at least December so there's plenty I've not looked at. Cheers (and thanks for blocking them - I was hoping it wouldn't be necessary but I agree with the decision). Hi there. There's been a development regarding Katy Perry's 2010 album, which you nominated for deletion. Recently, its title was apparently made public and Alexshunn (talk · contribs) created a new page by that name, Teenage Dream, made the page you nominated for deletion a redirect, and copy/pasted basically everything from Katy Perry's 2010 album at Teenage Dream. Hi.. (regarding User:A Nobody)

Hi Kww, I just want to touch base here, regarding the A Nobody thing. There were concerns about A Nobody's editing, which led to a WP:RfArb case being filed in which he was named as an involved party. However, A Nobody was having health issues, which of course, would eliminate any participation he might have during the case. However, people were concerned that he was using the health issues to get out of any possible consequences for his editing. To remedy these concerns, I placed a technical block on the account, that, when and if he returned to editing (by submitting an unblock request), that we would be notified and would proceed with the Arbitration case at that time.

As I said when announcing it on the ArbCom Noticeboard talk page:

As a measure to relieve the bickering and to restore the status quo, I have placed a block on A Nobody's account until such time if and when he wishes to return, at which time, the Arbitration Case previously opened will become active.

I cannot stress enough that this block is ONLY to enforce the situation regarding the Arbitration Case, and is NOT pre-judging or judging (or even post-judging!) of A Nobody's behavior. Any administrator who sees that A Nobody has returned and wishes to participate in the Arbitration Committee case should quickly unblock him and notify the Committee via email that we may proceed.

So, the block is only a technical measure, and not a response to his editing, per se. Thus, attempting to classify him as a Banned user (under any such reading of the policy) is premature, and unwarranted. I hope this makes things a bit clearer... SirFozzie (talk) 03:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding recent edit on Nelly Furtado's page.

I understand why you've undid my edit. It was unsourced...obviously haha. I forgot to add the source as to where I found the information. I was watching a YouTube video about Game (rapper) briefly talking about his new album which is titled The R.E.D. Album. So I thought I'd give out that information to people who haven't seen or heard about any of it.
This link below is to the video I was watching.

Just a heads up that a heated edit warring might start over the removal of a false tracklist from the article. At present it has something called US Promo CD - the REmixes, added by User:Ryulong (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) who insisted on adding it as it was sourced to Amazon. But the release is most certainly a bootleg, as it was released to Amazon by bunch of Gaga fans and not by Interscope/Cherry Tree/Universal. I believe that it should be speedil;y removed, but User:Ryulong has a habit of edit warring, hence wanted to give you a heads up that your broomstick might be required. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:43, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can barely keep track anymore but...

Do these seem like the same person to you?

The editing styles are similar and a lot of similar articles. Think a checkuser may be needed? I can't help but think its all tied into the User:RyanG222 / User:TheMentalist456 mess. - eo (talk) 20:40, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Its strange you should say that Ericorbit, User:Mister sparky also posed the same question. I wasn't to sure about Sllewellyn because although he/she edits same articles as RyanG222 his edits seem to be on the whole, useful or credible.Lil-unique1 (talk) 22:22, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sllewellyn does have his moments of disruption; I have had some problems with his edits in the past, particularly with constantly tweaking tables and inserting "TBA" wherever he can. That said, these others are suspicious and quite frankly, I wish there was a way to round ALL of this stuff up and establish them as the same user. User:RyanG222 to me could possibly be User:TheMentalist456 who in turn could also be User:Greenock125 (see here, where one of Greenock's socks has "Ryan" in his User Name. It's exhausting to try to find them all and I fear a range block may affect too many unrelated editors. - eo (talk) 12:09, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Am i not correct in thinking that Checkuser confirmed TheMentalist456 was a sockpuppet of RyanG222? there could be enough information and cause for a full checkuser investigation? –Lil-unique1 (talk) 16:47, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there's any question now

The checkuser results are still pending but there's a backlog so who knows when this will be resolved. However, more macro editing (supposedly WeedDJ is "new" as of only 5 days ago so use of these is suspect) [2] [3] — also here [4] he is making identical edits as he did when using RyanG222 [5]. - eo (talk) 16:47, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mexican "Sales certificates" table

Hello, Kevin,

I was trying to fix up the AMPROFON article the other day after I noticed the English needed some work. Then I started looking at the certs table showing current and historical threshold levels. Unsatisfied, I tried to improve that, too, but these projects start to grow... Could you take time (5 to 15 minutes?) to have a look at my concerns at Talk:AMPROFON#Checking and reworking "Sales certificates" table? I'd be grateful for any feedback there. TIA. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 02:34, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Wall

It has been my experience with fully protected articles, that the protecting admin usually sets a time frame for unprotection. Do you plan to keep full protection indefinitely?Mk5384 (talk) 10:21, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply. I think that is appropriate to note the length of full protection at the article itself. YMMV?Mk5384 (talk) 14:24, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's just that I've always seen that "big ugly banner" when an article is fully protected. I will admit, I haven't dealt with that many fully protected articles, so maybe it isn't customary. If you feel it's better without the banner, that's fine by me.Mk5384 (talk) 14:33, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kings and Queens

Hi. I saw that you've protected the Kings and Queens article and I can understand that. But can I undo the contribution of 87.6.183.202 because as I've mentioned earlier, the song was not the #1 in the Netherlands. It just reached the first position in the Tipparade, which is just the bubbling under chart and not the official Top 40. In the week that 87.6.183.202 claims to be the week with Kings as the number one, Just Say Yes was the best performing song in the Netherlands (source). Thank you. Japanese language

I randomly saw that one of your hobbies was Japanese, and as I have an interest in learning the language (an interest which came suddenly, randomly, and confusingly one night), was wondering if you had any suggestions on how best to proceed. Huntster (t @ c) 08:19, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, that kind of scares me, but I had a feeling that would be the best option. I just remember taking Spanish classes in high school and coming away with nothing beyond "No habla Español", which isn't even proper grammar ;D Huntster (t @ c) 17:56, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not of anyone I believe you've noticed, though. You said you do a lot of SPIs, so how about I float this here, first...

Gabi has been to ANI a few times and has been blocked, and in the last few days all most articles have kicked up again with another brand new editor doing the very same stuff. I seems quite convincing to me. The other possibility that strongly suggests itself is that it's user:Drew R. Smith taking another go; Sami's user page lifted a lot of code techniques that originate with me and Drew's last sock did exactly that. Either way, I believe this should be looked at. Began editing just a few weeks ago. Has problems with accepting consensus, bad-faith assumptions of vandalism, illiterate, awkward proposals to "work together" or "work things out" makes me think this could be yet another sockpuppet of User:Eddiep803b. Suspicions are further confirmed by the fact that this user has a sandbox for intended changes to Hilary Duff discography which remove Santa Claus Lane from studio albums. Future works on filmography

Hello! I had a doubt and I want to know if you can clarify it to me. Is there any rule that we can't add future works on a filmography table? The user Olivewildes removed some films on Ashley Tisdale's filmography section claiming we should only add films in the table once they are released. Is that true? Thanks! Decodet (talk) 17:27, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I understand you point of view but if you see, all the Featured articles about actors have future works listed on filmography articles. Brad Pitt, Emma Watson, Preity Zinta, Miranda Otto, Austin Nichols, Angelina Jolie, Katie Holmes, and many many others are examples. I don't think there's a rule about it in filmographies. Re:Chart limit

Thanks for the link, I don't mind having 10 peaks, but I strongly object removing Japan's positions as well as its certifications, because Japan's has the second largest Music Market in the world; therefore, very important to include within the table. However, I don't mind if anybody wants to remove one of the tiny markets in the table, either New Zealand or Ireland, the platinum awards on both of which is only 15,000, whereas Japan's platinum is at 250,000.--Harout72 (talk) 22:33, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chart macros

Let me explain. I never said that I was going to fail "Tik Tok" if LICKI did not use chart macros. He was correcting all the reference MOS, and I just pointed to him that its better to use the old chart referencing method as the singleschart template referencing is faulty in nature (not the method). Also, those Gaga GA articles which have acharts.us in them are before this acharts rule was introduced in WP:GOODCHARTS. I admit I actually forgot about it, and will replace with the registered charts as soon as possible.

The problem I face with the singles chart template is purely reference problem. It authomatically italicizs the online sources (RIANZ, ARIA, MC, IRMA, FIMI) when they are not supposed to be, as well as put wrong author names like Billboard in the author name positions. Thats why till today also I have hesitated in using the template and prefer the old way. Maybe tiresome, but doesnot violate MOS. Hope you understood. I will deal with LICKI. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:31, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking through "Obsessed" macros and saw that the Billboard charts use the old formatting, while the other nations has the "Country (Provider)" format. Any reason for this? Also, the providers are used as the redirect names in many of them, like IFPI, FIMI, ARIA etc, which would be a problem, if any of these articles would later be nominated for FAC as those FAC reviewers will surely point this out. Hence a full expansion of the names in teh references are needed. And normally lescharts.com, italiancharts.com etc, they are not the publisher, just the website name. The publisher is always Hung Medien, and the work is always the governing body. Just try to see if they can be portrayed as the old way of referencing. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:45, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For eg, Lady Gaga's The Remix album, the formatting should be.
"Lady Gaga – The Remix (album)". Ultratop 50. Hung Medien. Retrieved 2010-05-25. {{cite web}}: Italic or bold markup not allowed in: |work= (help) In this way, there's no faulty author name in the front and Ultratop 50, an online source, is not italicized.
Agree with the new way in Billboard. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:04, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Te Amo

It's not impossible. Te Amo was released as a single here in Brazil even before "Russian Roulette", you can ask any Brazilian. It was a massive hit in radios on here, that's why it could chart in Billboard Brazil. Decodet (talk) 00:29, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I do have the November issue, and it says Te Amo peaked at number twelve. Also, the November issue was published in the middle of November, not in the previous month. About the fact the song charted before the album's release, you may not know that a demo version of Te Amo leaked in the internet a long time ago and that was the version the Brazilian radios started to play (mainly because its Portuguese/Spanish title, in my opinion). Brain and Scamper sock

Would you please take a look at User:SCAMPER 4999, who appeared just after the block of sock User:499 and the vandalism block of User:4912 to continue posting content about the non-existent films about "Brain and Scamper" and has persisted to create new articles that are deleted as hoaxes about the "film". He is at it again tonight, with a new article, List Of Brain And Scamper Show Movie Characters and has the same list of actors supposedly attached. I tagged this account as connected directly, but it didn't get blocked. Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 01:02, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'm SO glad he hadn't gotten around to sticking it in the filmographies of all those actors he lists. This is a very minor internet video thing that is barely there. People's Most Beautiful

In pop culture, People Magazine's annual lists including, Most Beautiful People and Sexist Man Alive lists are notable. Wouldn't you agree? The others cited are less important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Easy12345 (talkcontribs) 02:47, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your thoughts about pop culture's lists. There are plenty - but list, in particular the People's Most Beautiful is notable and stand a part from the rest (it is rightly or wrongly mentioned on big network news programs). Also, noting that other wiki pages (not that is the best reference), it seems to be notable for julia roberts to vanessa hudgens to George Clooney (Sexist Man Alive) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Easy12345 (talkcontribs) 02:59, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps inclusion on popular magazine lists does not make it as notable, but the ones that cover those editions I would lean toward that they are?Easy12345 (talk) 03:20, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am not specifically referring to her (moved on / pass that). It's an open ended / broad conversation considering actors such as Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Olivia Wilde, etc. - that have been on the cover of popular magazine's top lists (i.e. Most Beautiful, Sexist Man, etc) - which all seem to have a notation on their respective wikipages. Because, it seems a considerable amount of pages will require edits. And if it appears on a number of wikipages that have passed through the wiki community previously - it stands to reason that it is perhaps indeed notable and important.Easy12345 (talk) 03:37, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, I understand the validity of the agrument that it is unimportant - I agree. It just seems it isn't important what I or any one individual deems as important or unimportant, but what is informational to a tested community. But again, I get it. just wanted to ensure goingn forward the same principle will be applied. i'll undo any edits i have made with notation to it. cheers. Re; Condoning block evasion

With the deepest respect, i do not wholly accept the implied criticism in your posting on my talk page. I have been admin here for several years, and spend essentially all of my time here combating vandalism, either at CSD, AIV or UAA. The user in question remains blocked, and the edit you are questionning was indeed an unblock decline. But we both know that it is wholly possible for a blocked user to get a new ISP, create a new account on this, and edit. My comment was meant to be a warning to him, if he did this, to avoid further vandalism. Perhaps it did not come across that way, but it needs to be looked at in the context of his unblock request. It was not, and in my view IS not, a comment condoning block evasion. Look at my editing history over the last three+ years to assimilate my view on that. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 20:11, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ultratip source

After reworking the Ultratop articles a little bit, I've realized the explanation of Ultratip doesn't say that that chart lists only songs which are not currently or have never been on the respective Ultratop chart. My understanding is that it's one or the other (the latter, maybe?), but as I move to add that detail, I find myself without any citation to support me, just what I've read of discussion here on WP. The Undead Dinosaurs From Hell

Please revisit and revise your decision to delete this page. It was about a serious solution to a serious issue in society today. I myself am not part of the band - but the band members seemed serious about taking legal action. The exclusion of their article is in their opinion "discriminatory, inappropriate, and illegal." This is copied from an email to myself. I was recently asked to create a page for them (I have been on Wiki for years, under multiple usernames). Upon doing so it has been deleted numerous times, for no good reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Automaticshutter (talkcontribs) 00:28, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Living Lohan

Kww, I can understand why I did not leave a explanation to why I removed "All The Way Around" from Living Lohan, but I feel that the song deserves a article of its own and this portion does not belong in a article about a TV show. I'm going to recommend that it be split from the article.(Robert Moore) 8:45, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Kww, I'm going to get rid of the infobox for the song. We can talk about the song, but this article should be about the TV show and there was more to the series than just the song. Like you said, they are mated, but the song infobox should go unless someone can prove otherwise, because she not released anything since and she has yet to release her album, which I doubt will ever see the light of day. (talk) 1:31, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
I decided that I am not going to pursue the idea of dropping the song infobox, but the article can be expanded just in case. It does make sense to leave it in since it was the focus of the series in the first place.(talk) 10:05, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Czech this

A page for the Czech Republic chart archive shows a heading like this:

IFPI ČR Hitparáda - RADIO TOP100 Oficiální Týden - 201018

but Singlechart produces a reference line like

"ČNS IFPI". Hitparáda - TOP50 Prodejní. IFPI Czech Republic. Note: insert 201018 into search. Retrieved 2010-06-03.

The obvious thing is, they don't match. Probably the biggest concern here is the discrepancy between TOP100 and TOP50. It sure looks like a top 100 list to me.

Additionally, this line continues its italicization beyond the Note and into the Retrieved date string. I'll bet this is a problem with all of the macros which produce such notes (you don't turn off the italics at the end), though I've neither looked nor tested.. — JohnFromPinckney (talk)

Hi, another note on the singles chart macro for the Czech republic: It produces a Wikilink to IFPI, when really it should be International Federation of the Phonographic Industry or, better yet IFPI. Just IFPI leaves an ugly "redirected from" when you click on it. Janfrie1988 (talk) 16:58, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And yet another note: The above is also true for the Spanish chart macro, which creates the wikilink PROMUSICAE, which also leaves an ugly redirect message. I feel extremely silly to have to report this and not be able to fix it myself. Cheers. Janfrie1988 (talk) 00:34, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My objection is that its ugly, its as simple as that. Editors usually take great care to limit those redirect messages to as few as possible, I have encountered them very rarely when clicking on wikilinks. Wikilinking is one of the core mechanics of Wikipedia that set it apart from other encyclopedias. It should be as comfortable, easy and unconfusing as possible. This "data garbage" of redirect messages is unnecessary. Anyhow, where can I find the templates? I would feel a lot better if I at least could fix stuff myself. Janfrie1988 (talk) 00:47, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The redirect messages are just a trifle, sure - but an unnecessary trifle. You were right about the redirects. I don't like it but it seems to be the community consensus. Redirects are not one of the reasons im am no fan of these macros in general, however. We already discussed these reasons earlier. For the sake of more effectively controlling vandalism I could live with them, though, if (and only if) they work not the least bit less than manual sytax. The reason I might have sounded angry was, as I specified on the talk page here, that a chart position (Spain's) was removed because the source in the macro was outdated. In that, the macro effectively made the article worse, which is reason enough for me to take it out until it works perfectly. And there were more issues. The Finnish source is outdated, too. The Austria macro doesn't display that the source is in German, the Czech source urged the reader to tipe the week in a search field, when there could be a direct link to artist and song. This probably isn't even fixable on a macro level, since we would need a command that automatically completes the URL depending on the article the macro is used in. This may all be trifles but there are a lot of them - and in sum they make the article worse, sources harder to check. However, my most important critique would still be that the macros use second-hand sources instead of the official ones. Second-hand sources often lack behind and multiply the chance of errors. Sorry for being so confrontational. It is not my intention to put your work down. All I am asking is that macros should be used with caution and only if it is ensured that they work flawlessly and use correct sources. Janfrie1988 (talk) 01:35, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, seeing that those trifles are bugs you are working on, I think this is settled. Thanks again for your work. I still don't totally get why you expose yourself to that, though ;). Besides all the work, you probably get shit from all sides. And all that for a little protection from vandalism? To be honest, so far I haven't nearly been as annoyed by vandalism as I have by people who take out correct but unsourced chart positions because they were too lazy to look for a source and just assumed the positions were wrong :P. Oh, besides, your buddy JohnFromPinckney has done quite a good job at defending/explaining your work here. Cheers Janfrie1988 (talk) 04:37, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hungary

Looking at Hungary, it seems as though we could build up a URL given a week/year pair as with other macros. For example, after doing my search for Ke$ha's Tik Tok, I click through to http://www.mahasz.hu/?menu=slagerlistak&menu2=archivum&lista=radios&ev=2010&het=17&submit_=Keres%E9s which shows me the Rádiós Top 40 chart for week 17 of 2010. Since I figure you've researched this, maybe there's some reason we couldn't (always) get there with {{singlechart|Hungary|2|year=2010|week=17}}. Or maybe they've changed things? — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 11:59, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Kevin, I believe you would understand the revert which I made, because clearly you see teh fancrufty addition of singles, and the dead Rolling Stone link. --Legolas (talk2me) 07:16, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The template looks good. One question, is there any way we can use en-dash between words, like "Ultratop.be – LAdy Gaga – Bad Romance (song)". Just asking. --Legolas (talk2me) 07:21, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The en-dash should be used in the title of the reference, as I stated above. When two words are spaced by dash, use an en-dash in them instead of the normal dash. If you can point me the template source code, I can do the change myself. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:11, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Then I don't think we can replace those dash in the title with en-dash, can we? Maybe we can include some replacement code which automatically searches the HTML title, and replaces "-" with "–" ? --Legolas (talk2me) 03:46, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't I mention it before? My bad. Actually normally I have seen that at FACs, reviewers sometimes ask if the normal dashes in the reference titles can be replaces by en-dash, to have a consistency with the en and en-dashes throughout the article. Recently, even I also started doing the same. Hence just asking if there's a possibility of doing the same with the template to carry forward this consistency. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:54, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ya. A discussion is the better way. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:06, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification re Inniverse

I'll admit that I've become rather frustrated with AN's behavior at AfDs and elsewhere in Wikipedia space at times, but my main objection has always been to his damage in the mainspace in his efforts to prevent deletions. Personally, I'd be happy just to go my gnomish way without worrying about sockpuppets and copyvios and hoaxes and all the other nonsense that goes on here, but I seem to be incapable of not occasionally finding myself sucked into such things. If it turns out that Inniverse = AN, however, any vestiges of good faith I have will be utterly exhausted—I'll pursue him wherever he pops up. I apologize if I seemed to undercut your SPI filing; I had thought a good deal about the matter and had tentatively concluded that the new user was unlikely to be AN and felt that I should say so. He could very well have fooled me, though. Deor (talk) 00:24, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

a new brexx sockpuppet?

Im wondering if there is a potential sock puppet going on here. The user in question is Palmlipbalm‎ (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). im dubious because though obviously a new account he/she appears to be editing similar articles to other Brexx socks including Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel and those related to Monica. Palmlipbalm doesn't appear to be acting like a new user... he/she is editing like many of the most recent socks of Brexx did, once warned about inserting improperly cited material he/she is proceeding to add as many links as possible to try and verify details even though the links provided are not sufficiently WP:verifiable. I'm not sure if it definately is a Brexx sock... but it could be worth a brief overview from your expertise. Regards, Lil-unique1 (talk) 17:00, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It has been proposed on the talk page of Lena Meyer-Landrut to nominate the article for GA or even FA. I am not sure what to think about this. It would be good to have the opinion of an experienced editor before we risk looking silly ;). Janfrie1988 (talk) 20:45, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Possible violation of user unblocking

Hi there. I have suspicions that user Wiki-11233 has broken the terms of being unblocked by using an alt account. Details can be found here: Wikipedia talk:Sockpuppet investigations#Is this a sock puppet?.

In a nut-shell, Panda.1001 was blocked as sock puppet of Wiki-11233, and I suspect that I'm-Back-1001 (on both Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons) is a sock puppet of Panda.1001 (and by extension Wiki-11233) due to the specific edits made by the two accounts.

An investigation has been filed by TFOWR and I'm-Back-1001 has already been blocked, but I noticed that on Wiki-11233s page that "This user has been unblocked on a trial basis, and is currently subject to the following restrictions: 1. No alternate accounts, and no anonymous editing: all edits must be performed under this account..." and "If you believe this editor is editing in violation of these restrictions, please contact Kww.", so here I am. I don't know if this is necessary (due to the investigation being filed) but I thought I should probably let you know anyway. AlphathonTM (talk) 21:44, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He can be a bit frustrating to work with. I had a similar experience when he insisted on adding season 5 information to List of FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman episodes six months before it aired.[12] All of the WP:CRYSTAL/OR stuff is still in the article and it's getting worse.[13] --AussieLegend (talk) 12:32, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bonnie Pemberton

Think you could read over that one again? The only "keeps" cite CatFancy as a source, and I think Deor's refutation of that argument is reasonable.—Kww(talk) 14:36, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If there had been no !votes other than Deor's nomination and Ponyo's !vote, that would not have been sufficient to delete the article. Therefore, even if I were to discount all the keep !votes, which I don't, there would still not be sufficient consensus to delete.
Inniverse/Azviz did cause enough confusion to the debate that I have marked it as no prejudice against immediate renomination, but that is, I think, as far as I will go. Stifle (talk) 14:53, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Icelandic Chart

  • Of course i haven't got a definite proof etc., but these sentences: "Lagalistinn inniheldur mest spiluðu lögin á Íslandi og er unninn úr gögnum frá Rás 2, Bylgjunni, FM957, X-inu, Kananum og tonlist.is" & "Spila allan listann Setja í lagalista og fleira Kaupa valin lög Setja lög í spilara

Þannig gefur listinn góða mynd af vinsælustu lögunum á Tónlist.is í hverri viku. Listinn er samansettur af þúsunum seldra og spilaðra laga en aðeins eru birt 30 efstu opinberlega." can be called as reliable - in my opinion, and we are here just to build up something, we should not just decide easily whether they are unreliable or not. --Triancula (talk) 00:23, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I used Google Translate as you guess, there is not much translators from Icelandic to English, whatever, and with these sentences, i got that the charts are compiled with the Icelandic radio stations' top list and tonlist digital download - a system just like Nielsen's, IFPI's. If it was only a digital and a "marketing" site, they would not have cared the radio stations etc. --Triancula (talk) 01:05, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I looked into our little problem here. I know this is no proof for reliability but when you enter "Iceland singles" into Wikipedia search, there are quite some articles who include Icelandic positions and use tonlist.is as a source, including Is It True?, This Is My Life (Eurobandið song) and this year's ESC entry from Iceland Je ne sais quoi (song). Thoughts? Janfrie1988 (talk) 03:27, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Still undecided. If it's a legitimate chart, it needs to go into WP:GOODCHARTS and {{singlechart}}, and I don't do either one lightly. I'll probably find the Iceland wikiproject and ask about it.—Kww(talk) 03:37, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An Arbitration request in which you are involved has been opened, and is located here. Please add any evidence you wish the Arbitrators to consider to the evidence sub-page, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Climate change/Evidence. You may also contribute to the case on the workshop sub-page, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Climate change/Workshop.

Additionally, please note that for this case specific procedural guidelines have been stipulated; if you have any questions please ask. The full outline is listed on the Evidence and Workshop pages, but please adhere to the basics:

  • The issues raised in the "Sock Puppet Standards of Evidence" and "Stephen Schultz and Lar" requests may be raised and addressed in evidence in this case if (but only if) they have not been resolved by other means.
  • Preparation of a formal list of "parties to the case" will not be required.
  • Within five days from the opening of the case, participants are asked to provide a listing of the sub-issues that they believe should be addressed in the committee's decision. This should be done in a section of the Workshop page designated for that purpose. Each issue should be set forth as a one-sentence, neutrally worded question—for example:
    • "Should User:X be sanctioned for tendentious editing on Article:Y"?
    • "Has User:Foo made personal attacks on editors of Article:Z?"
    • "Did Administrator:Bar violate the ABC policy on (date)?"
    • "Should the current community probation on Global Warming articles by modified by (suggested change)?"
The committee will not be obliged to address all the identified sub-issues in its decision, but having the questions identified should help focus the evidence and workshop proposals.
  • All evidence should be posted within 15 days from the opening of the case. The drafters will seek to move the case to arbitrator workshop proposals and/or a proposed decision within a reasonable time thereafter, bearing in mind the need for the committee to examine what will presumably be a very considerable body of evidence.
  • Participants are urgently requested to keep their evidence and workshop proposals as concise as reasonably possible.
  • The length limitation on evidence submissions is to be enforced in a flexible manner to maximize the value of each user's evidence to the arbitrators. Users who submit overlength diatribes or repetitious presentations will be asked by the clerks to pare them. On the other hand, the word limit should preferably not be enforced in a way that hampers the reader's ability to evaluate the evidence.
  • All participants are expected to abide by the general guideline for Conduct on arbitration pages, which states:
  • Incivility, personal attacks, and strident rhetoric should be avoided in Arbitration as in all other areas of Wikipedia.
  • Until this case is decided, the existing community sanctions and procedures for Climate change and Global warming articles remain in full effect, and editors on these articles are expected to be on their best behavior.
  • Any arbitrator, clerk, or other uninvolved administrator is authorized to block, page-ban, or otherwise appropriately sanction any participant in this case whose conduct on the case pages departs repeatedly or severely from appropriate standards of decorum. Except in truly egregious cases, a warning will first be given with a citation to this notice. (Hopefully, it will never be necessary to invoke this paragraph.)

The problem is that a irani user has been grossing MJ sales without sources since I don't know how many time. He started as an IP user with the articles Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix and List of best-selling remix albums worldwide, after I left a message, he/she stopped. but then return as Speed 108 (talk · contribs), then was blocked and return as Speed 118 (talk · contribs), later as another IP, then as User:13711337kop (talk · contribs) and finally as Ray romano Brad garret (talk · contribs). Blood, the list, and dangerous were protected yesterday, but he returned today as Hustler Playboy (talk · contribs) and Goldfingertt (talk · contribs). Double album were protected today for the same. Like I said at WP:AIV it is impossible that new users edit the same articles with pourly sourced content, if it would be truth, a lot of other users still doing the same and information would appear. Yesterday I violated WP:3rr at dangerous, and I said "Admins if you want block me (for 3RR, I reverted six times), but please protect this, I did't was blocked, if you consider block me for that, I understand you. That is the problem. TbhotchTalk C. 05:40, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More singlechart stuff

Hi, Kevin. I haven't scrutinized all of your latest changes, but I have a bit of feedback for you, possibly some more work to throw on the heap.

  1. The reference for Billboardpopsongs has what looks like a stray Billboard in front.
  2. To match cite web, the period that's currently before " (in Swahili) " should come after, as in " (in Swahili). " So,
^ "Lescharts.com - Rihanna - Rude Boy" (in French). Les classement single. Hung Medien.
    instead of
^ "Lescharts.com - Rihanna - Rude Boy". (in French) Les classement single. Hung Medien.
  3. Spain and Sweden don't seem to have any period at all, either before or after the language. Or maybe the other macros just have an extra period, before the language, and Spain and Sweden are the exceptions which do it right (making #2 above a question of removal rather than shifting).
  4. Spain is shown as (in Spanish), but it's really English. (See my test results table.)
  5. I suspect you copied the Czech Republic macro and tweaked it for Slovakia. I see some things in Slovakia that I think need changing: The "ČNS" should be "SNS"; the language for Slovakia should be Slovak; and "IFPI Czech Republic" should be "IFPI Slovakia" as in
"ČNS IFPI" (in Slovak) Slovakian Singles Chart. IFPI Czech Republic. Note: insert 201018 into search. Retrieved June 7, 2010.
Also, I'm not sure we shouldn't change the adjective in "Slovakian Singles Chart" to "Slovak" (or just use "Slovakia"), since I get the impression that "Slovakian" is generally considered wrong (at least by Slovaks). But why isn't this bit parallel to the Czech reference line, something more like:
"SNS IFPI" (in Slovak) Hitparáda - RADIO TOP100 Oficiálna. IFPI Slovak Republic.
? (Text paralleling Czech based on Google Translate result.) Or maybe the Czech ref should look more like Slovakia does now. I'm, uh, disturbed by the difference for two sources so similar.
  6. I still have intentions of updating the template documentation. I will findmake time soon.
  7. Did you mean to use your local copy of the template in this edit to Satellite (Lena Meyer-Landrut song)?

BTW [complete change of topic], thanks for stepping in with 79.120.129.186. I guess I probably didn't need to leave him a comment at all, and I believe I could have worded it differently, or maybe dropped in a smiley or something. I think I was frustrated at the repetitive addition of unconstructive fan drivel on Talk:Recovery (Eminem album), and thought I could educate at least one user. Total fail. Thanks again, though. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 12:32, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
