Galgotias University (sometimes known as Galgotia University) is a co-educational private university in Greater Noida (NCR) in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Previously known as Galgotias Educational Institutions, it was granted university status in 2011 by Uttar Pradesh government. Galgotias University was established by the Uttar Pradesh Galgotias University Act No. 14 of 2011 under section 3 of UGC Act 1956.

History

The institution was established by the Smt. Shakuntla Educational & Welfare Society as Galgotias Educational Institutions in 1999. The institution was established to provide engineering & management education to students from every walk of life, and the institute still thrives on this policy. Galgotias Educational Institutions (GEI) originally had three colleges:

Galgotias Institute of Management & Technology (GIMT) established in 1999, a management institute affiliated to Mahamaya Technical University (previously Uttar Pradesh Technical University)
Galgotias College of Engineering & Technology (GCET) established in 2000, an engineering college affiliated to Mahamaya Technical University (previously Uttar Pradesh Technical University)
Galgotias Business School (GBS) established in 2007, management institute approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)

Apart from academics Galgotias has always indulged in publishing and other activities providing their students full market and industry interactions.

Location

Galgotias University has its main campus (Galgotias Education City) in Greater Noida near Jaypee Sports Complex (Buddh International Circuit) while the original campus called Galgotias Educational Institution Campus One is located at Knowledge Park-II right beside Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

Infrastructure

Campus

Galgotias University is having two campuses in the city of Greater Noida. The old campus known as Galgotias Educational Institution Campus One in Knowledge Park phase-2 of Greater Noida. The new campus of Galgotias University is at 10 k.m. distance from Campus One and is situated at the Yamuna Expressway on the outer of Greater Noida. The Campus One mostly has the offices of Galgotias University and the three old colleges. The Boys hostel is also located at The Campus One only. Galgotias University New Campus is a well planned campus with many high-tech facilities that can't be provided on the Campus One. The New Campus hosts most of the classes and serves as the education centre for the university as of now. The new campus is expected to have 18 blocks and is spread over 95 acres.^[1]A regular bus service operated by the university runs between the Campus One and New Campus and connects both the campuses.

Central Library

The Central Library consists of a number of departmental libraries which collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes. All students, faculty members and employees of the institute are entitled to use the library facilities. Besides having a huge collection of books on engineering, science and bioinformatics, humanities and social sciences, and mass communication, it offers library services through its divisions. The library uses a Libsys/SIM software package (an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations). Libsys consists of modules on acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, serials, article indexing and OPAC. The Central Library has 9925 titles, 74585 volumes, 238 national journals, 165 international journals, 75 magazines, and 760 CDs. The library is in institutional membership with DELNET and American Central Library.^[2]

Web SIM and FFCS

Web SIM is a student service offered to Galgotias University students that stores all student data from personal details to placement details, library information, assignments, holidays information, etc. Every student is given a username and password that can be used to access this data.

Galgotias University offers four types of subjects: University Core, University Elective, Programme Core and Programme Elective. The Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS) enables students to choose their elective subjects independently and provides flexibility to choose their hours of lectures. Students are supposed to complete the required number of credits by choosing the right programmes and attending the required number of lectures.

Galgotias University Clubs

Galgotias University Clubs are different socities that are run by students of Galgotias. These socities are maintained by The Student Affairs department of Gthe university. Currently there are five socities running:

The Technical Society
The Management Clubs
The Sports Society
The Literary Society

Around 21 different clubs function under these societies. ^[3]

G-Quasar: The annual fest of Galgotias

The Galgotias University organizes North India's largest fest called G-Quasar. The G-Quasar takes place every year in the month of march or February at the Campus One. The fest of Galgotias is a uni-fest which has both type of events i.e. Technical and Cultural.

G-Quasar 2012

G-Quasar 2012 was the biggest fest in Galgotias' history. The 3 day fest witnessed the footfall of more than 15000. The main attraction of the event were Dr. Kumar Vishwas, Honey Singh, Mika & RDB.
