*I am puzzled by the first two images you have referred to above for which you take credit as being "your restorations". In fact these are images that I did very major restorations of for you at your request made in the Graphics Lab in December, 2011 (see here and here both of which you then marked as "Resolved"), which you appear to have then reposted as new files (one within hours) styled as your own restorations (called "Cisco edits") but to which you made virtually no changes to the extensive work I did for you other than some extremely minor "flyspecking". (Perhaps this is what you mean above by saying that you "doubt I would want the recognition" for my work.) While I do not seek or accept Barnstars or other forms of WP "merit badges" for the work that I do in here as that is not why I contribute to the project, neither to I expect those that ask me to do it to then repost my work as their own. Please avoid that in the future. Centpacrr (talk) 17:27, 29 August 2013 (UTC) |

DYK for Tjerita Oeij Se
On 27 August 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Tjerita Oeij Se, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Thio Tjin Boen's novel Tjerita Oeij Se, with a man who becomes rich after finding a kite made of paper money, has been read as a condemnation of intermarriage? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

I don't think this is fair- you've left Elekhh's unsupported claim that the image has no copyright problems, yet removed my challenge to that, after you've weighed in on the discussion yourself. I'm not going to revert you, as I agree that the discussion probably doesn't belong there, but I do think there's a problem with leaving Elekhh's very questionable claim outside of the archive, making it look unchallenged. - Have moved the hat up; you raise a fair point, and the oppose !vote (which is what I was avoiding) was still higher up. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:47, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Trouble with Harvard citation
Hi Crisco! This is the first time I've used the above citation format and I'm having a bit of trouble with it in Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Hong Kong). I've changed all the book sources to Harv. style using the same format throughout, but only one of them works while the other two don't. Could I trouble you to have a quick look? Cheers! —Bloom6132 (talk) 05:39, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- Looks like you were accidentally adding "RIGHT-TO-LEFT EMBEDDING" based on the error message that popped up. Have fixed by just rewriting the author's last name.. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:27, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- You have to use year not date for the year. PumpkinSky talk 23:44, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- I think they fixed that, actually. Bloom's third ref there used "date", and was working. I've changed it to year, but that was because I was working under the same assumption you are. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:46, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- Using date is iffy. I never have problems with year. PumpkinSky talk 23:53, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Userfy
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/William E. Eakle I have never used the userfy feature, but I would appreiciate it if you could retrive the text and citations so that the content can be rolled into a broader article. I have created 500 or so articles with very few afd's. I have a pair of new users that are very focused on deleting specific people in Howard County, starting with a strange round of blanking from a new HCPIO account (Howard County Public Information Office), then de-linking and citation removal, timed Afd's, then bulk AFD's on notibility. I decided to wait on the outcome on notablitiy. I will follow the guidelines as best as I can on the broader article, and hopefully calmer heads and editors will prevail. FlugKerl (talk) 06:27, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- What, exactly, broader article would you merge this content into? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:28, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- A history of the county, politics of the county, or a historical list of county officials. I'm open to suggestions. FlugKerl (talk) 22:14, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- I fail to see how these individuals would warrant more than a one- or two-sentence summary. That being said, lists sound like a good idea: List of county executives of Howard County, Maryland does not exist. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:13, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Matula
On 27 August 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Matula, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Tan Tjoei Hock's "in every way successful" film Matula centres on a disfigured man, a shaman, and a life debt? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Matula. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Page protection?
Crisco, do you ever handle page protection requests?
I ask because there's a swarm of IPs at Kurt Hummel, doing unfortunate things to the infobox (and sometimes elsewhere in the article). I put in a request at WP:RFP#Kurt Hummel about 40 minutes ago because of over two dozen edits in a very short time, and well over a dozen have been made since then. If the request can be expedited, that would be great: now that I've made the request, I have to stay away from further involvement. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:59, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- A swarm is right. They're edit warring each other. Done. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:06, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you! It's such a relief to have it stopped. I'll go in now and undo the damage. I'd already warned one of them with a newish account (who seems to have bowed out, or gone the IP route) about 3RR, when I realized this needed stronger action, since at least one IP seemed to be changing addresses... BlueMoonset (talk) 00:11, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Note that it's just one day though, so be braced for tomorrow... I hope you won't have to, but... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:13, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- I was actually worried that they'd take their game over to the other half of the "couple", Blaine Anderson, but only one visited and was reverted. I'm hoping, given those circumstances, that they won't be back. If so, I imagine no one would be averse to me asking for another round of protection. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:31, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Will watchlist. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:15, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Crisco, do you ever handle DYK favor hook-checking requests?
I ask because that prick BlueMoonset is so particular and wants another reviewer to look at a tweaked hook. Well, I got two such hooks (review is done, etc.) with minor tweaks, and if someone OKs them you get rid of two DYK noms in a minute: Template:Did you know nominations/Milan Poparic and Template:Did you know nominations/Prisoners of Hope. Tell you what, make that three, and that last one is a really old one (you're welcome, BlueMoonset): Template:Did you know nominations/Rose Lambert. Drmies (talk) 03:16, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Have checked all three. Two seemed okay, but one was... dull. Mind you, it's an Armenian one so I was tempted to not touch it, considering these things are unsung Gibraltars at times. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:09, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- So kind, Drmies. I cannot but return the favor by allowing you to solve on your own how to avoid using both "writer and director" and "wrote and directed" in that dogs hook, since doing so puts you at 209 characters. Good thing you didn't also add "sets", or you'd be at 214... BlueMoonset (talk) 05:31, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.
IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 11:38, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Restorations
Hey, Cris! I've been asked to find new examples of restorations to replace ones a Wikimedia UK page that consists entirely of Durova's work, which, while good, is also by a long-retired user. Could you tell me what your top five favourite restorations you've done are? Also, besides us two, can you think of any other active restorationists? I can think of a half-dozen or so - Papa Lima Whiskey, Staxringold, Trialsanderrors etc - but I don't think any of them have been active in years; if I'm wrong on that point, I would like to know. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:18, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- PLW was active under the name User:Papa Lima Whiskey 2 for a while, but s/he's disappeared since then. User:Mmxx does some, but I haven't seen him/her around recently. Jbarta and User:Centpacrr do some restorations at the image lab, though neither are active at FPC (and I doubt Centpacrr would want the recognition).
- I'm rather fond of
- File:Hadji Ali demonstrating controlled regurgitation Crisco edit.jpg (my first restoration to reach FP; built on Centpacrr's initial restoration)
- File:USS Arizona in New York City Crisco edit.jpg - Lots of little details, very cool image; built on Centpacrr's initial restoration
- File:Terry-Thomas in Burke's Law (1964) Crisco restoration.jpg - Even though it's not of very high resolution, I'm proud of just how much gunk I was able to remove and restore.
- File:Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Crisco edit letters removed.jpg simply because I found Dreamworks film Anastasia enjoyable when I was a child.
- Don't really have a fifth, though if I were forced to choose it would probably be File:Your Liberty Bond will help stop this Crisco restoration and colours.jpg or File:Charles Lindbergh and the Spirit of Saint Louis (Crisco restoration, with wings).jpg. Thanks for the ping, Adam — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:37, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps File:Golden_Gate_from_Lands_End,_San_Francisco_c1895.jpg would be a useful example of my work in digital image restoration for what you are wanting to demonstrate. (Comparison of original and restoration below.) I have others. but this is probably the most extreme example of a damaged image that was restored.

(Perhaps this is what you mean above by saying that you "doubt I would want the recognition" for my work.)
