I removed a proposed deletion notice from the article Craxism because the Italian article on the same topic, it:Craxismo, appears to be substantial and sourced, and from what I could tell, can at least arguably sustain a separate article from our biographical article about Bettino Craxi. However, as the editor who prodded it correctly noted, the English language article is not in very good condition at the moment. Review by editors having greater facility than I do in Italian (and Italian sources) would be most appreciated. --Arxiloxos (talk) 00:54, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Quartetto Cetra
Hi Italy,

Can anyone please help improve Quartetto Cetra in any way, even small. I have just discovered this group, and I think it is a fascinating subject - but the article is very poor; it is highly non-neutral, and totally unreferenced. I'd like to try improving it myself, but there are few good references in English - there seem to be lots in Italian.

So, that's it... a humble request, if anyone could please help improve the article on this rather ancient Italian musical ensemble.

Thanks! 88.104.30.86 (talk) 19:12, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi all, I started a discussion on the Norman conquest of southern Italy article in regards to the introductory paragraph. If anyone wants to provide input they are more than welcome. Cheers, — - dain- talk    23:13, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pasta-gate

Should Office québécois de la langue française be updated to account for pastagate? It did garner international attention, especially in Italy, unlike many of the other OLF gaffes. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 04:20, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bank deposit levy is a very high profile topic at the moment. It would be good to have more examples of when this has been attempted in the past. I have found reference to a much smaller levy in Italy, but am struggling to find an in-depth explanation of what Italy did during that the 1990s crash (see talk page). I created the stub [1], but cannot yet explain which "Massa" is involved. Piarists have been active in Tuscany since the 17th century. Massa is the most important town with this name.--Broletto (talk) 17:47, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Naples article

The Naples article is mostly good, except for three subsections – the Cinema and television section, the Literature and philosophy section, and the Theatre section. These are basically just lumps of incoherent text, written (I think) by an Italian with almost no grasp of the English language. They include a lot of useful wikilinks, but are so badly written and unstructured that they are of little use to readers. They are also completely unsourced.

I have done a lot of work on the article, but these subsections leave me at a loss – in some parts of them, I genuinely don't know what the original editor was trying to say. I have been tempted to delete them completely, but that would leave the article lacking a lot of coverage on Neapolitan culture. I am requesting someone (preferably with some knowledge of Neapolitan culture) to help me clean up these subsections and find reliable sources for them. Thanks. – Michaelmas1957 (talk) 03:58, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

AfC submission

Please have a look at this submission. Regards, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 17:43, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

At a glance it looks basically good, and certainly good enough to be moved to article space without further ado. As it is essentially a translation from the Italian Wikipedia, attribution will be needed: as indeed the author already knows. I don’t know what the currently recommended way of doing this is, however. (Most editors don’t bother to do it at all, which is a bit of a disgrace.)
The short verse by Vico Faggi will need to be translated (or else removed), and the whole thing would benefit from copy-editing, since the English is not always quite idiomatic. (In the caption to the second image, for instance, ‘municipality’ is awkward as a translation for municipio, because that word is normally employed—especially in American English—to translate comune, which is a higher level of the local government hierarchy.) But this sort of thing can be dealt with later. Finally, the author, User:Tomias80, should certainly be thanked for his/her diligent work and encouraged to do do more of it!Ian Spackman (talk) 11:10, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Convert WikiProject Bernini into a taskforce of WP:ITALY

Started a RfC: the last few years of the page have seen one complaint after another about how awful the article is; I started an improvement; almost immediately, it degenerated into an edit war.

So, with the knowledge that this stirs up POVy passions we need to work past, we could use some guidance:

IN ENGLISH, should "Italian dialects" describe
A non-recognized languages like Venetian or
B only regional flavors of Standard Italian?

Comment here. Answer A should mean some version of my edits (listing major Italian varieties of Gallo-Romance and Italo-Dalmatian) should be kept; answer B should mean that the existing page we've got should be merged with languages of Italy. In that case, we'll need help rebuilding it; and (in any case) we could use better sources. — LlywelynII 12:37, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you really mean to deny that Florence is the French for Florentia? Whether it's worth saying is another question, but English does use Florence, Rome, Milan, Venice because French does. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 19:51, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen sources that have the etymology for the given name go straight from Florentia to medieval English. Of course, French influence was all over the place back then, so the line may be hard to draw. Do you know of any sources that discuss the etymology of the city name in English? Also, on the your second point, would you object to its removal on relevance (or other) grounds? Dohn joe (talk) 20:16, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
However, English uses Tyrol. Septentrionalis PMAnderson
I think the question is whether that holds for the comune as well as it does for the province. (Or whether the comune even has an English exonym or usage.) Dohn joe (talk) 20:16, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help finding sources?

Hi! I'm working on an article for the Italian director Mario Landi. I'm having a bit of trouble, as his stuff was never really brought to the United States and as such, the sources are entirely in Italian for the most part. I don't speak any Italian and Google translate can only do so much, especially since most of the things I'm finding can't be translated into English. (Book entries, etc.) I'm also running into issues with sources as the bulk of his work was made before the advent of the Internet, so if anyone knows where to look for anything along those lines, I'd be incredibly grateful. I have a copy in my userspace, so if anyone is so inclined to help with it, feel free to edit it at your leisure. (User:Tokyogirl79/Mario Landi) I've just really hit the limit of what I could personally do with the article, but I hate to delete it since he seems to be fairly notable in Italy. The Independent writes that Federico Zeri worked in the Ministry of Cultural Heritage about the years 1945-1952. WP writes it was established 1974, replacing the Ministry of Public Education. Popular pages tool update

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:12, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
